MEDITATIONS APRIL 9-15 Today begins the Holy Week, Seven days in which the grace of creation is renewed, but not in the natural and physical realm, although certainly the events that happened in those days were tragically "physical" Now the human reality is prepared to witness the beginning of the new creation , Of which Jesus Christ, the new Adam, is the firstborn. from the earliest years of the Christian Church, believers acknowledged that the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ fulfilled all the Messianic prophecies and confirmed their divine identity. The story Matthew we read today begins by suggesting that Judas' betrayal was due to avarice and thus fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 11,12 Later, when Peter promises loyalty, Jesus predicted that he would deny it. We can see these disciples as historical figures with unique qualities and weaknesses, but also as personifications of all Christians. By listening to this story we can compare their reactions and feelings to ours in similar circumstances. After the trial, some unexpected people approached Jesus to help him: Cyrene, Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea, as signs that God is present and active in the most unexpected places. The reading of the Passion prepares us for the Holy Week events. for example, on Holy Thursday, when the Church celebrates the institution of the Eucharist, today's reading rightly ends when the tomb is sealed. Matthew is the only evangelist to include some signs that followed the death of Jesus. All this demonstrates the powerful effect that the death of Jesus had on all creation.
"Dear Lord Jesus, let this Holy Week have a new appreciation of your life, your passion and your death, to see in them my own passage to the Kingdom of God. "
