One of the worst things a person can experience is to feel that they have suffered for nothing. When a soldier dies in battle for a good cause, others say that he or she did not die in vain. In today's first reading, Isaiah describes the Suffering Servant of God. This servant gives up his life "as an offering for sin." By doing so, he bears the guilt of others. God says of him, "My servant shall justify many." To justify others is to free them from blame or take away their guilt.
Una de las experiencias más desagradables que una persona puede tener es saber que ha sufrido en vano. Cuando un soldado muere en una batalla por una causa buena, decimos que su muerte no fue en vano. En primera lectura de hoy Isaías describe al siervo de Dios que sufre. Ese servidor dio su vida "como expiación" por el pecado. Así el soporta la culpa de otros. Dios dice "Traerá a muchos la salvación". Salvar a otros es librarlos de la culpa.
We can easily understand why Christians see a portrait of Jesus Christ in this reading. He is the obedient servant who gave his life for our salvation. By his suffering, death, and rising, he leads us into fullness of days.

Reading 2 Hebrews 4:14-16 Temptation is a familiar visitor for most of us. Sometimes we lock our doors and say "Keep out!" Other times we let temptation in and wind up acting against God's will. Jesus never said yes to temptation. He knows what it is like to be tempted. Therefore, he understands how hard it is for us to resist temptations to sins like dishonesty, greed, and violence. Jesus is a priest who intercedes for us always. Whenever temptation knocks on our doors, we have only to turn to Jesus. He will strengthen us to do what is right.
Gospel Mark 10:42-45 We can often recognize those who are considered great in the world by the number of people they have serving and protecting them. Jesus teaches his disciples that it cannot be like that with them. He has come not to be served but to serve others, especially the poor and those who need healing. His greatness is seen most clearly in his laying down his life for others. Through Baptism we share in the Church's ministry to serve all who are in need. We share Christ's mission of working for peace and justice in our homes, our parish, and our world.
Segunda lectura Hebreos 4:14-16 La tentación es un visitante asiduo para la mayoría de nosotros. Algunas veces cerramos nuestras puertas y decimos "aléjate". Otras la dejamos entrar y ganar actuando en contra de la voluntad de Dios. Jesucristo, nuestro sumo sacerdote, nunca pecó. El conoció la tentación. El entiende lo difícil que para nosotros resistir las tentaciones de pecar, tales como deshonestidad, avaricia y violencia. Jesús es un sacerdote que siempre intercede por nosotros. Cuando la tentación toque nuestras puertas, podemos ir a Jesús. El nos fortalecerá para hacer lo correcto.
Evangelio Marcos 10:42-45 Con frecuencia podemos reconocer a los que son considerados grandes en el mundo por el número de personas que han protegido y servido. Jesús enseña a sus discípulos que con ellos no puede ser así. El no ha venido a ser servido sino a servir a otros, especialmente los pobres y los que necesitan sanación su grandeza es vista más claramente cuando da su vida por los demás. Por nuestro bautismo compartimos el ministerio de la iglesia de servir a los necesitados. Compartimos la misión de Cristo de trabajar por la paz y la justicia en nuestros hogares, parroquia y mundo.

What is human trafficking?

Human Trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, and forceful detention of people either from one country to another, or within countries. The victims experience a loss of freedom and exploitation at the hands of their traffickers who buy and sell them in pursuit of profit.. It is aptly named “modern day slavery”. Human Trafficking is the largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world; second only to drugs and arms dealing. The U.S. Department of State estimates that there are at least 30 million victims of modern-day slavery in the world today and one million new victims each year. The U.S.A. is the number one country of destination for trafficked victims. Both foreign and nationals and U.S. citizens have been identified in cities, suburbs, and rural areas in all U.S. states and in Washington D.C. The U.S. government has taken a firm stance against human trafficking. Laws against trafficking in the U.S. exist at the federal and state levels. In addition to government, several nongovernmental organizations and human rights organizations have been formed to combat human trafficking. One such organization is the Polaris Project which is an international organization that provides social services to the trafficked victims, housing, law reform and education. In the U.S. it operates and implements the National Human Trafficking Resource Center; a nation wide, 24 hour, toll free, seven days a week, hotline. The number is : 1-888-373-7888.
Pope Francis called human trafficking a “crime against humanity” and “an open wound on the body of contemporary society, a scourge upon the body of Christ”. He said sin is the deep cause of slavery. “Whenever sin corrupts the human heart and distances us from our Creator and our neighbors, the latter are no longer regarded as beings of equal dignity, as brothers or sisters sharing a common humanity, but rather as objects.” “We can ask ourselves: What can I do to end human trafficking? Our prayer this month for the end of human trafficking is a beginning.”
El Tráfico de Seres Humanos involucra la captación, el transporte, contundente detención de la gente de un país a otro, o dentro de los países.
