Saturday/Sunday—May 16 & 17 Manna Food Collection Our Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of God and of us ALL . Please take time throughout the month of May to honor Mary and to pray to the Queen of Peace for peace in our community and the world. The world is full of

goodness and evil. The only way we can stop evil is by doing good and acting lovingly to all God’s children. Memorare

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Sixth Sunday of Easter

As we begin the sixth week of the Easter Season, we hear various stories of love. In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear Peter tell Cornelius not to pay homage to him because he is “also a human being.” Peter then explains that because God shows no partiality, “whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.” That includes Jewish and non Jewish people. Anyone who wants to follow Jesus can receive the Holy Spirit and be Baptized. We hear Saint John tells us in the second reading the correlation between knowing and loving God. “Because everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.’ In the Gospel, we hear Jesus correlate his love with God the Father’s love. He continues by saying that we did not choose God but God chose us and the relationship is based on a friendship and not on a master vs. slave. We hear in the last sentence Jesus’ command to “love one another.” In the English language, we use the word love to highlight what we like to eat, things we like to wear, our favorite teams, who we like, etc. It is a four-letter word that is often trivialized. The love proclaimed in these readings talk about unconditional love, respect, compassion, understanding and a willingness to work together to create a better world and family. When we place our lives in God’s hands, he can guide our words and actions to be more loving and less condemning of our fellow human beings. When we truly understand the unconditional love God has for us it is easy to bask in that love and share that love with others. So we ask ourselves: • Do we understand the unconditional love of God? Do we share that love with others? • Do we work at our relationships with our spouses, children, siblings, neighbors, etc. Do we realize the importance of mutual respect and agree to disagree or are we always right? • Do we pray every day for the Lord to make us more loving, compassionate, just, forgiving, etc.? • Since practice makes perfect, do we practice the virtues necessary to be more loving followers of Jesus Christ?

Congratulations to the following children for receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the first time. We hope and pray that they receive Jesus Christ every week as they grow in faith and knowledge and strive to be better disciples of Jesus Christ.
