A BLESSING BEFORE SUMMER VACATIONS Take time to claim your strength; they are gifts of God. Take time to have fun; it's God's way of teaching you your strengths. Take time to grow yourself; only you can grow you. Take time to trust yourself; God trusts you. Take time to be self-reliant; it is better than being dependent. Take time to share with others; they will bless you, and you will bless them. Take time to have hope, you are a child of God. Let's put ourselves into the hands of the Lord, and pray that God will bless us and our families during the wonderful months of summer. May we all help make our home a place of relaxation, joy, love, peace and safety. May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only about ourselves, but helping others enjoy the blessings of a summertime. Lord God, Creator of all things, guide our steps and strengthen our hearts, during these months of summer and vacation days. Grant us refreshment of mind and body. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, Jesus said “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” Jesus used the mustard seed to illustrate the principles of the Kingdom of God for several reasons. A seed carries within itself the DNA or the blueprint of the parent plant. An acorn produces an oak tree not a hickory tree. A mustard seed is going to produce a mustard plant. The Word of God will produce the Kingdom of God within you. The Mustard plant grows to a remarkable size in comparison to the original mustard seed. Jesus referred to the principles of the Kingdom of God as a living thing that grows within us to produce remarkable things. We can have a little knowledge about our faith but when we nurture that knowledge through prayer and call upon the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with the fire of God’s love, we can create communities of peace and justice, love and compassion. So we ask ourselves: • Do we view the Kingdom of God as something that starts very small (with our Baptism) but grows because we allow the Word of God to mold our actions as we strive to be authentic disciples of Jesus Christ? • Do we plant the seeds of faith by our words and actions, no matter how small or large the act? • Do we try to nurture our faith with acts of faith, hope and charity/love?

Prayer for those graduating from school Father, I have knowledge, so will You show me now, How to use it wisely and find a way somehow To make the world I live in a little better place, And make life with its problems a little bit easier to face. Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days, And show me how to serve you in effective ways. So my education, my knowledge and my skill May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do your will. And may I ever be aware in everything I do, That knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from You. Amen.
