Third Sunday of Lent

From the burning bush, Moses is called by God to lead his people out of slavery into freedom. The parable of the fig tree speaks, on the one hand, of God’s patience, but, on the other, of the urgency of the call to conversion. Like the Hebrews of old, we too have failed to heed God’s call, thinking ourselves to be self-righteous.. 2/28

Third Sunday of Lent Attention All Parishioners!! Have you heard about the Philly Block Project?

TODAY - TAKE A FLYER AND READ ALL ABOUT IT!

The Philly Block Project is a year-long program that tells the story of South Kensington, past and present, through photographs. The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) in collaboration with Hank Willis Thomas, an internationally renowned artist, hosts the project. Philly Block Project aims to foster a relationship between PPAC and its neighbors by hosting Exhibitions, Free Community Workshops, and a Street Carnival. Philly Block Project is also the creation of a collection of Photographs of South Kensington. The collection will be created with South Kensington residents, who will take part in visualizing life, preserving heritage and celebrating the neighborhood. The photos will be showcased in an exhibition this June at the Philadelphia Photo Art Center. Since St. Michael's has been and is a prominent presence in the neighborhood, it is important and desirable that the church community is represented in the Community Archive Exhibition. THEREFORE … NEXT SUNDAY, MARCH 6, AFTER THE TWO MORNING MASSES…. Tim Gibbon, the Community Organizer, will have a scanning station set up and invite parishioners to contribute their photos and stories to the archive. The photos will be scanned with care and returned immediately. Residents are invited to submit up to 10 photos from family portraits & holiday celebrations, to kids playing basketball & neighbors having conversations; whatever shows your life here in the neighborhood.

Third Sunday of Lent

Sunday Scripture Reflections Reading 1 Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15 What a dramatic scene the Book of Exodus depicts for us today! Moses, who had escaped from Egypt, is now a shepherd. He has been leading a simple life tending sheep. But all that changes in an instant when he encounters a burning bush at Mount Horeb. As he takes a closer look, he hears God calling him by name and instructing him to take off his sandals as a mark of respect for this holy place. God assures Moses that the cries of the people in captivity have been heard. God will not only rescue the people but will lead them to the Promised Land. When Moses realizes that God wants him to return to Egypt and lead the Israelites, Moses says that the people will not believe him because he does not know God's name. Moses learns God's name. It is Yahweh, meaning "I am who am." Reading 2 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12

Segunda lectura 1 Corintios 10:1-6, 10-12 Paul's letter to the Christian community at Corinth is filled with advice about keeping the faith. In toLa carta de san Pablo a la comunidad cristiana day's reading he reminds the people that they cannot take de Corinto se llena con consejos sobre cómo mantener la their new faith for granted. Faith means that we are fe. En la lectura de hoy, él recuerda a las personas que called to conversion, to turn to God each day. no pueden tomar su nueva fe por sentado. La fe significa Lent is a season of penance, a time for conversion. Our challenge is to give evidence that we are truly followers of Christ.

Nuestro reto es dar pruebas de Pray : Lord, teach us the meaning of conversion. Help us que realmente somos seguidores de Cristo. Orar: Señor, enséñanos el significado de la conversión. to live lives of service and love.

Gospel Luke 13:1-9 Sometimes when we see a terrible accident or hear about people who are being persecuted, we may think that such things will never happen to us. Some people in Jesus' time believed that those who suffered such tragedies and injustices were being punished because they were great sinners. Jesus sets them straight in today's gospel reading. He says that suffering comes from injustice in our world.. The parable of the fig tree reminds us that God is

Third Sunday of Lent Monthly Papal Intentions To better know “the concrete problems that trouble the Universal Church, especially those of the missions,” the Holy Father asks that his monthly intentions be “the object of knowledgeable and responsible prayer on the part of the people of God”. For the month of March: The Universal Intention: That families in need may receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in health and peaceful environments. The Intention for Evangelization: That those Christians who, on account of their faith, are discriminated against or are being persecuted, may remain strong and faithful to the Gospel thanks to the incessant prayer of the Church. ======================================= IT ALL COMES DOWN TO MERCY …. The season of Lent offers us a special time to come to grips with our need for mercy and to let God’s mercy soften our hearts and influence the way we relate to the people in our lives. God doesn’t want us to hold a grudge or treat unkindly anyone who is “in debt” to us. He doesn't want to see our hearts darkened by bitterness or resentment. Rather, he wants his peace to rule us—and through us to touch everyone around us. Don’t you want this too?

==================================== A REMINDER— DID YOU PICK UP YOUR RICE BOWL AND ARE YOU MAKING USE OF IT?

And so we pray…. Thank you, Jesus, for the countless times you’ve forgiven my sins. Deliver me from any hardness of heart that I harbor toward others and teach me mercy from your own immeasurable mercy. Amen.
