Marigold
Stefan Blom and Dagmar Pagel, after the success of their previous store, Wallflower, have opened a fabulous little gift shop: Marigold. The perfect place to pop in your way to a dinner party, to surprise your host with a gorgeous, funky gift or bunch of flowers. This brand is a pleasure to work on and I have enjoyed producing packaging, wall vinyls, flyers, business cards and stickers. I learnt a lot about dealing with clients as Stefan has a great eye and prefers bright, modern and clean design.

Sappi
• COPYWRITER: Tracy-Lynn King SAPPI ‘Ideas that Matter’ is a competition that required us to choose a local NGO and, using only SAPPI paper products, find a creative solution to a problem the NGO was experiencing. We chose LEAP Science and Maths School, a school desperately short of computers. We noticed that most companies update and replace their computers quite regularly. Our concept involves delivering empty computer boxes to these companies and encouraging them to put their old computers into the boxes. The computers would be collected and taken to where they would really be needed.

Through our school we have created a structured learning environment which encourages students to cultivate a positive attitude, good work ethic and a caring lifestyle. In 2004 the LEAP school was established and opened its doors to 72 students. This was thanks to R1m in funding from the Shuttleworth Foundation, together with the Bishops school partnership and the blessing of the Western Cape Education Department. Our campus is situated in the Mupine College Building in Pinelands, Cape Town & the majority of our students are from Langa township. Additionally, In January 2007, we opened a second school in Cape Town serving the Gugulethu / Crossroads community, and we have recently opened a third school serving the Alexandra community in Johannesburg. Students graduate from LEAP with a university exemption; with Science, Maths and English on higher grade.

Gevalia
I chose to design coffee packaging that would be feminine and collectible yet practical and easy to store. Gevalia has a vintage, twenties feel which I chose to bring together in a contemporary way. Certain pieces such as the sachets ensure that Gevalia can be enjoyed anywhere. All the elements come together to create a great coffee experience.

Mbali & Yolisa
South Africa produces some of the world's best wine. Flowers symbolize women, the mothers of the nation. They are the pillars of the nation; the social glue. This particular wine is produced free trade, hence buying the wine supports social development. Mbali is the Zulu word for Flower and Yolisa in Zulu, means ‘the one who is with joy’. I kept a floral theme in both designs and a similar layout but the actual design elements differ, allowing each to hold its own identity.

Penguin
We were given a brief to re-design two Penguin Classic bookcovers. I chose Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations and Jane Austen’s Emma. By layering various textures and images I feel that the covers give the reader a feel for what the stories are about and results in a modern yet eye catching look.

After her beloved governess, Miss Taylor, leaves Hartfield to become Mrs. Weston, Emma Woodhouse finds herself in need of a friend. The answer is Harriet Smith, a girl of questionable origins whom Emma decides to improve. Thinking herself impervious to romance of any kind, Emma tries to arrange a wealthy marriage for poor Harriet, but refuses to recognize her own feelings for the gallant Mr. Knightley. What ensues is a delightful series of scheming escapades in which every social machination and bit of “tittle-tattle” is steeped in Austen’s delicious irony.
Emma Jane Austen
In this popular and insatiable novel, Jane Austen exercises her taste for cutting social observation and her talent for investing seemingly trivial events with profound moral significance as Emma traverses a gentle satire of provincial balls and drawing rooms, along the way encountering the sweet Harriet Smith, the chatty and tedious Miss Bates, and her absurd father Mr. Woodhouse–a memorable gallery of Austen’s finest personages.
In an overgrown churchyard, a grizzled convict springs upon an orphan named Pip. The convict terrifies the young boy and threatens to kill him unless Pip helps further his escape. Later, Pip finds himself in the ruined garden where he meets the bitter and crazy Miss Havisham and her foster child Estella, with whom he immediately falls in love. After a secret benefactor gives him a fortune, Pip moves to London, where he cultivates great expectations for a life which would allow him to discard

On the Rocks
On the Rocks is an exquisite and internationally acclaimed restaurant in Bloubergstrand. It is situated on the waters edge and boasts breathtaking views of Table Mountain, Robben Island and Cape Town. The logo however, does not reflect all these positives. I re-designed it, keeping the new logo clean, simple and incorporating the gorgeous chairs. The colours are coastal yet warm reflecting the restaurant's position and ambience.

ExclusiveBooks
Exclusive Books held a national competition to find a bag design that would encompass the brand, show their passion for books and the effect they have on readers in South Africa. I was honoured to be one of the top ten finalists. I decided that an explosion of watercolour effectively shows the way reading can open up your mind and show you amazing things. I used Nelson Mandela and Brian Habana for two designs, keeping the South African feel. Each theme from sport to romance is illustrated in colour with the striking white images cut out of it.

Two Cubs
The van Niekerk family own Knorhoek Wines. Leopards feature on all the labels and Two Cubs is a set of wines within the range, appropriately named so after the two brothers who run the winery. Its is sold mainly off-trade in South Africa but also exported to the UK and Netherlands. It is an easy drinking, laid back wine, affordable yet classy. The owners wanted this expressed in the label re-design and for Two Cubs to appeal to forward thinking young women . I wanted to keep it as clean and modern as possible whilst maintaining the leopard theme and wine's unique visual identity. Using the number '2' created a great curve and look and the pattern resembles a leopard print. The clubs are illustrated but would be gold on the label adding dimension and class to the minimalist look and the colours would appeal to the chosen female target market.
