about us two We believe in being still and noticing beauty in this life We am inspired by subtlty and art found in unexpected places. We strive to to make everyone we photograph appear their ideal self, not only physically but also a reflection of their inner beauty and the love they share. With an elegant and lifestyle approach to photography, our forever endeavor is to evoke emotions and capture sublime images. I have a background in fashion photography and have had the privilege to bridge that over into the art that is lifestyle portraiture. I shoot with my insanely talented artist of a husband---creative visionary and co-owner of the worldwide fashion brand, idylle clothing & the software app company, analog nest. we love natural light, sophisticated minimalism, juxtaposition of opposites, and natural, raw locales. We are currently based in Orange County, California, but are wanderlusters at heart & will happily travel to your event’s location. thank you for your interest in my work. Let’s be friends.

we strive to creatively document moment by moment memories that are not only authentic and sentimental, but also with a dash of whimical interpretation. everyone wants to remember certains times and events in their lives as idealized as possible. We gravitate towards images that portray a dreamy memory that we believe resonsates with people as being soft emotional & beautiful.

the right fit our philosopy on wedding portraiture

many couples ask why we encourage booking our nouvelle & engagement sessions prior to booking a wedding coverage agreement. as you know, finding a photographer who will be able to capture your special day in the right way is one of the most important decisions made when planning your weddinG or event. personalities & visions should click-- there should be a level of comfort. we empathize & completely understand this. this is why we take great care to inform all of our couples who we are as artists, and what type of clients are good fits for our vision & photography look.. we love & openly encourage dialogue during the consultation & love shoot timeframe. we want to know your personalities, what you are looking for in your wedding portraiture & and how you see your unique vision unfolding through our eyes & how we document. we feel that this gives our potential clients peace of mind having the freedom & knowledge of how we shoot before they make the commitment of wedding coverage with us. We choose to book only a handful of weddings a year, & we are happy to say many of our clients become our friends!

{ an informative guide on the importance of light & planning your special day}

Painted with Light

light information guide for your “day-of”

Light & it’s Importance: Light is what makes a photo spectacular. When planning your day keep in mind available light when choosing timing and location for special events such as our lifestyle sessions, engagements, first look, ceremony, and all formal portraits (Bride & Groom, family portraits & wedding party). A good rule is: the lower the sun, the more desirable the light, the higher the sun (closer to noon), the more shadows will be apparent in locations of non-diffused light. If you like the glowy photography featured on our website & portfolio, you should plan for significant portraits of your day during this particular type of lighting condition.

Light & Our Editing Process: Our photos are not “stylized” in post-production. Filters and effects are generally not used. The look and feel you see in our portfolio/blog photos are all done in-camera and are staged by hunting “perfect light” conditions during the shoot. Work with us and/or your coordinator to plan accordingly.. And while beautiful photographs can be taken in shade, or on cloudy days---many of our clients seek a specific “glowy” look that is indicative of certain lighting conditions.

Light and Time: if you are booking us for a wedding, Set aside enough time for formal portraits. Typical family & wedding party portraits take anywhere from 20 to even 40+ minutes dependent on the size of the family/party and how easy it is to gather and pose everyone. These are generally taken directly post-ceremony but may be taken at any point in the day in order to set aside enough time for bride/groom formal portraits. sometimes it is best to shoot Bride & Groom Formals before the ceremony ( “first-look”.). In addition to the party/family designated period--we encourage and request an additional time frame of at least 30 minutes for formal bride & groom portraiture. we also ask that we be alone & free from distraction during this time so that you will fee free to express yourselves in a private setting. It is up to the coordinator/client to reserve this needed time and to further insure this interval is kept open on the day of the wedding despite other uncontrolled events.

Light & Location: Location is another factor in light. It may be high noon, but if you are in a canyon, ravine, or thick forest conditions, light will appear very different. It may be “spotty” of even verging on dark. Golden hour is non-existent in canyons, forests or ravines. A good tip is: the higher the altitude with no obstruction--or the closer to a flat horizon (like the beach) the more sunlight you will experience right until the sun dips behind the horizon line.

Light & wedding Receptions: Although night time photos can be taken with full flash photography--stunning reception photos generally have at least some “ambient” light. Clients may wish to work with their venue with existing building lights in reception/dance area. Other brides opt for the strung “patio” light look (these actually can produce lovely “bokeh” effects). Whatever the couple chooses to do, it is wise to remember that even the softest surrounding light can be beautiful and effective. The more environmental light, the less the reception photography will appear “flashy.”

Q & A for brides So what time of day is optimal light conditions? It’s technical name is golden hour. This is the time of magical light. It is occurs 30 minutes to a full hour before the sun sets.* Golden hour portraits produce warm imagery that have a distinct “glow”. If this is the feel you desire for your bride/groom portraits, it may be advisable to work with your wedding coordinator to reserve this time during the day, Another Form of Optimal light is OPen shade (diffused settings) and 15 mintues after the sun sets. These are not necessarily “Glowy”--but are also considered beautiful & ideal. If portaiture is important to you you can plan our event around great light. Options are a “first look” before the ceremony- photos directly after the ceremony-or sometimes even a quick “getaway” during the reception. It is whatever you feel most comforatable with.

What if my day doesn’t have all of it’s events in “optimal light”? There is no way to have the entire day be in ideal light-- Just know that important portraiture (i.e bride and groom) should be considered to take place during a certain time allotment. Open shade can always be utilized for beautiful diffused light for other portraiture such as family photos or wedding party.

Why have a “first look”? Generally not a decision that has to be made by early summer brides because the sun sets so late in the day--- the late summer, fall, and winter brides may have to consider this depending on how they schedule their day. If their ceremony is at sunset, we strongly encourage all formal portraits (bride&groom/ family/wedding party) happen before the ceremony/sunset. This means having a “first look” --the groom and bride seeing each other pre-ceremony. flash photography and staged lighting mechanisms (for night photos) do not produce photos we know our clients seek. **Please know We do everything possible to make these “first looks” as special as possible--from mimicking walking down a walkway for aisle emulation, to a tap on the shoulder in a gorgeous environment.

What if my wedding is at sunset, and I absolutely do not want to see my bride/groom before the ceremony are there any other options for me? There is an option of the “day after” session. It is coined “day after” but really can happen at any point after the wedding day. Just get in your bridal gear, and we will set aside a full session for you in perfect light. It can even be at the local of your wedding. *Fees for these sessions + travel are applicable.

My ceremony is mid-day and there is no shade in sight! If the ceremony is mid-day-- with little to no control over shade or diffused light (depending on locale) --just be aware that there will be some shadowing on the face. Light during this time can be very distinct and strident. This is just the nature of how sun/natural light works. There are some techniques in post-process that can help reduce these effects, although they cannot be completely diminished. If you have any questions regarding, please do not hesitate to ask!

What if there is no sun? What if it is cloudy or overcast? Cloudy and/or rainy days make for lovely portraiture! This will not be an obstacle like mid-day/high sun conditions. Clouds produce lovely diffusion, and evenness of light across the subject. It will however, produce a very different look than golden hour---instead of warm and glowy, it will be cooler, and completely even in tone. Evenness of tone is positive thing--It is what photographers strive to produce in-studio & some mimic this diffusion in natural light with the use of umbrellas, reflectors etc.

Can I have some of our formal portraits (family/wedding party/bride & groom) after dark? Or what if my day runs behind and we have to shoot after-dark portraits? We encourage our clients to have all portraits pre-sunset. Portraits using flash photography will produce images we feel are not the caliber that wedding portraiture should reflect. Full flash photography can produce images that are similar in effect to a point & shoot camera--- especially under still/posed conditions. They are static in nature and they don’t have the feel of what the environment actually appears to the eye. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee our brand look of portraiture after sunset, and in some cases night-time portraits will be delivered to client in b/w style.

attire We often get asked what to wear to a portrait session, so we have created this style guide of tips and suggestions. We believe that it is important for our clients to look & feel great during their session. This does not necessarily mean that you have to go out & buy expensive clothing, but rather simply find outfits that reflect your personality, are appropriate for the environment, & also photograph well.. We generally say to not be afraid to dress up! You don’t have to settle for a “matching” casual jean look. If possible, get your make-up & hair professionally done, and bring a few outfits with accessories. Layer patterns, fabric textures, and accessories for a pulled-together look. Realistically, we will only shoot two outfits in the time we have, but having options is always beneficial.

Here are some Tips we offer: 1. We encourage that our female clients wear a pretty dress or skirt with some light outwear if it is chilly. Accessories & great shoes photograph beautifully & are perfect for “detail” shots. Heels naturally make the legs look shapely & flattering, If you want a session that appears very enchanting and dreamy--wear something frothy, feminine & flirty. long, Drapey/sheer fabrics do wonders to produce soft romantic photos. For men, we suggest jeans or a tailored pant paired with a shirt that reflects his personality. Long sleeve button up shirts always look great and the sleeves can be rolled up to make for a more casual appearance. a nice T-shirt for udnerneath the button up or perhaps a sweater or vest to go on-top can look very sharp. Remember textures look great-- so don’t be afraid to “layer up”! Keep in Mind attire should match the season that the session will take place. 2. Try to avoid loud/vibrant patterns or large logos as they tend to be distracting . 3.) we personally don’t reccomend jeans or pants for the girl as we feel that it takes away from the girl’s femininity & softness. 4. Lastly, Try to avoid all-white, all-black, or super vivid colors. These tend to appear “blocky” in the image
