FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

24

WHO CAN APPLY FOR ACCOMMODATION? You can apply for accommodation if you've selected Staffordshire University as either your firm or insurance choice University via UCAS and have your Student ID number.

CAN I APPLY FOR ACCOMMODATION IF STAFFORDSHIRE UNIVERSITY IS MY INSURANCE CHOICE? Yes, you can apply. However, priority is given to students who have us as their first choice.

AM I GUARANTEED MY FIRST PREFERENCE OF ACCOMMODATION? No, that's why we ask you to rank your options. Your application preferences are subject to availability, but we'll try our best to offer you the accommodation you want. Apply as soon as possible for a better chance.

CAN I ARRIVE EARLY?

WHEN DO I PAY MY RENT?

It's very rare that we can offer early move-in. However, if you have an exceptional reason why you want to move in early, let us know when and why during the induction process. We'll then be able to let you know if we have early availability.

Depending on which payment option you chose, you will either pay it all at once when you accept your offer or in instalments throughout the academic year. If you chose instalment, you'll pay a £250 pre-payment of rent to accept your offer. You'll pay the remaining balance over three instalments - it'll all be broken down for you when you accept your offer. We time these payments to coincide with when student finance payments are made.

CAN I ARRIVE LATE? Yes, you can arrive late but you'll still be charged from the date your contract starts. Please let us know during your induction when you're planning on arriving.

CAN I BRING MY CAR? Yes, parking restrictions are in place and a permit scheme is in operation. Students living on-campus are within walking distance of studies and are therefore encouraged to use public transport for their travel needs. Our campus is very close to the train station with excellent links to the rest of the country. There is also plenty of secure bicycle storage areas around the campus. Limited parking is available at College Court from our residents on a first-come first-served basis. Contact reslife@staffs.ac.uk to check if parking is still available and reserve your spot.

DO YOU SUPPLY BEDDING AND KITCHEN UTENSILS? We don't, however you can purchase bedding or kitchen utensils through Chaffinch Student, a local company who we work with to make sure what you buy is in your room when you arrive.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION The University aims to provide an environment for all residents that is comfortable, safe, clean and supportive and our university codes of conduct outline the standard of conduct the University expects of its residents so that everyone can live in such way. We take non-compliance and inappropriate behaviour seriously and non-adherence to our policy will result in the resident facing the Residential Behaviour Management Process, which links in to both the Accommodation Code of Conduct and the University Student Conduct Procedure. Our policies can be accessed from www.staffs.ac.uk/legal/policies and the information outlined in these key policies will be fully communicated at the time of induction. All the information in this document is correct at time of going to print February 2022, very rarely we have to make changes to our offering and in this instance we will be in contact with students to arrange suitable alternative accommodation. For the most up-to-date information on our offering visit our website or ResLife Portal.

26

LOCKDOWN GUARANTEE In the instance of UK government announcing further national lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic from February 2022 onwards, requiring students to leave our accommodation and return home, students will be entitled to financial reimbursement of their accommodation costs. Subject to T&C's.

PRICE FREEZE For the past 2 academic years we have not increased our pricing of accommodation. This is planned for the next academic year 22/23, to help students with affordability of living with us at the university in university accommodation. We understand the financial difficulties the pandemic has had on individuals. The only exception to this is College Court which has increased by £2 per week from £125-£127.
