21st century flexible study

At Staffordshire University, we are constantly evolving the way we deliver our courses to make sure that whatever your commitments, you have access to the future you deserve. In recent years, we have been making improvements and offering more of our courses through a Distance Learning method of study.

What is distance learning?

Distance learning is a mode of study completed entirely online through our virtual learning platform: Blackboard. It relies on you, as a student, proactively engaging with the resources, lectures, and experiences made available to you digitally via our expert academics and professional staff. Distance learning courses typically come with their own communities of staff, tutors and students from all over the globe that are available for discussions and friendly chats at the click of a button.

What are the benefits of distance learning?

Studying through distance learning is popular among students with working or parental responsibilities, or students that are travelling or are unable to commute to campus. However, our distance learning options are more than just convenient for students that struggle to attend campus – they can be beneficial for everyone. Distance learning brings with it an element of personal time management, so if you’re more comfortable engaging with your course materials in the middle of the night or in the garden on a bank holiday, it could be for you!

What is available through distance learning?

Studying via distance learning

Many of our courses offer a distance learning mode of study (see course pages for more information), these include professional qualifications as well as full-time and part-time postgraduate degrees. Being a distance learning student gives you all the same privileges as an on-campus student. This means, should you wish to take advantage of our state-of-the-art on-campus facilities and our physical learning resources, you can. Arts and Creative Technologies / Ceramics The beauty of this master’s course is that you can design it to however you want; as long as it’s creditable, you can do it. For me it was speech, radio, and production. Because I designed it myself, when I’ve applied for jobs, I’ve put that in there and that really impresses employers. It’s showing that you can demonstrate and use your own initiative. Chris Steers Arts and Creative Technologies - MA by Negotiated Study
