New “Round the Wrekin” CYCLE SPORTIVE IN AID OF COMPTON HOSPICE Compton Hospice are excited to stage their first cycling sportive as a new fundraising initiative for the charity in 2016. The event will take place on May 22nd and will run out of Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club. The event is supported by World Champion Cyclist - Hugh Porter MBE who is a 4 time World Pursuit Champion and Commonwealth Gold Medalist, and is known more recently for being the voice of British cycling. From Church Stetton cyclists will encounter some serious hills travelling up The Burway towards The Stiperstones before turning North and heading downhill to the 50 mile point at Snailbeach. Just past Cressage the incline will again start to increase, heading North towards Uppington before heading towards The Wrekin, Ironbridge, and finally ending back at Kingswinford. New Bathroom with Neuxgen
If there is one room in the house where you need to be warm and perfectly comfortable, it’s the bathroom. There it is that you can find yourself wearing the least clothes, and be wet too. Bathrooms should be where you can relax in warm humidity, where you have access to limitless piping hot water and where you can be free from chilling draughts. Once upon a time bathrooms comprised a bath, washbasin and perhaps also a WC. Today most people also expect a shower. Our ideas have changed over recent years as have our bathing habits. As a population we bathe more often in the week than did our parents and grandparents, we expect to be able to do so whenever we feel like it, and at a moment’s notice. A well designed, comfortable bathroom is not a luxury, it is a necessity, a right to which we are all entitled. If your present bathroom lacks some creature comforts, it’s high time it was replaced.
The biggest change in the modern bathroom however, is the shower. Whether housed in a separate cubicle or fitted over the bath. Make sure there are sufficient mirrors and adequate lighting. An illuminated mirror and shaving point are essential. Choose the decor with care. Bathrooms should be cheerful or elegant, not depressingly plain. Consider ceramic or porcelain tiles for the walls and the same for the floors though alternatively, you could choose karndean or vinyl flooring. If your bathroom is not a supreme pleasure to enter and be in, the time has come to ensure it is, and there really is no time like the present. So if your thoughts are turning towards revamping your bathroom it’s worth remembering that we don’t have to look much further than Neuxgen. Call in to their new showroom they provide quality services with up-to-date products to help make our homes just perfect.
First consider a new suite. The latest baths are of plastic derivatives, warm to the touch, easy to care for and tough in use. You can however, still buy enamelled cast iron or steel baths though oddly, they tend to cost rather more than the non-metal models. Modern baths are also very attractive to look at and come, not only in a huge range of colours including black and white, they are also made in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit in with almost any shape and size of room. Matching washbasins may stand upon a pedestal or they may be fitted into a vanity unit with a surrounding worktop and cupboards underneath. The basin part will be made either of a plastic derivative or porcelain. The latest matching WCs are sleek, easy to clean, porcelain fixtures with low, slim-line cisterns and a two-tier choice of flush - full or half, to help conserve your water.

SI CANNOCK & DISTRICT - West Midlands Hedgehog Rescue On a cold January evening SI Cannock and District were thoroughly entertained by Joan Lockley of the West Midlands Hedgehog Rescue and her hand-reared friend Freddie the hedgehog. Joan gave an informative and humorous talk with lots of anecdotes about the people she’s met and the various hedgehog encounters she’s had over the years. Joan also managed along the way to inform club members of the difficulties hedgehogs are facing at the present time. In 2015 alone, Joan and her volunteers have rescued over 500 hedgehogs and she stressed that we need to save these little creatures whose numbers have dropped from 36 million to less than 1 million.
She asked everyone to be particularly vigilant when moving a compost heap or disturbing a pile of leaves: both of which are favoured hibernation places for hedgehogs. She also urged members not to use slug pellets as the hedgehogs eat the dead slugs and die themselves. If anyone sees a hedgehog in daylight it is a sign that they are in distress or starving. If you put them in a box in a warm place, give them cat food and contact the Hedgehog Rescue they will advise you on what to do to help these endangered mammals. Joan has hand reared hundreds of hedgehogs which involves syringe feeding them a special milk (not cows milk which is dangerous for them) every two hours. Members thoroughly enjoyed the talk and were delighted to see Freddie who obligingly allowed members to stroke him. As Soroptimists we are conscious of threats to the environment but Joan’s talk helped to increase our awareness of the implications our actions have on our wildlife.
Cannock Soroptimists next speaker meeting is on March 15th when guests will be very welcome, information is available on their website www.sigbi.org/cannock-and-district
Council report highlights the good work in the District
A big ‘Thank You’ to Morrisons and their customers from Cannock Lions
Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has approved the recommendation to become a member of the Staffordshire Dementia Action Alliance. This builds on the work already undertaken in the District to become a dementia friendly organisation.
Cannock Lions Club would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to the customers of Morrisons in Cannock who donated a fantastic £1,260 over just two weekends leading up to Christmas.
Dementia Friendly societies are part of a national initiative which originates from the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenge in 2012. The development is supported by the Dementia Action Alliance and they aim is to raise awareness of dementia, reduce stigma and also try to reduce the loneliness and isolation experienced by both people with dementia and their carers. There are approximately 1184 people living with dementia in Cannock Chase and this figure is expected to increase to just over 2000 by 2030. Councillor Muriel Davis, Portfolio Leader for Health and Wellbeing said “There has been a huge amount of work gone into this initiative, particularly in Hednesford. It has also been supported by local businesses, which shows the demand and the need for support in the community. It is good to know that vulnerable people are supported and we are raising awareness of this dreadful condition. I hope that the initiative can be successfully rolled out to the rest of the District in 2016.” 18

Cannock Lions were helping Santa during his visits to the store and were bowled over by the response received. “We could not have done it without the generous support of the management and staff at Cannock Morrisons, who, for the second year have helped us host a couple of Santa’s visits to the store.” Every penny of the money collected will go to good causes, right here in Cannock.
Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Brian Stanley feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not
just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Cannock
and Stafford areas and Brian is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Brian a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

SI CANNOCK & DISTRICT - June Hardman President Lynne Tuckley led members of Soroptimist International Cannock & District in a minute’s silence as they remembered with affection long serving member June Hardman who died very suddenly in the latter part of 2015. This was the first time the Club had met since June’s death. June was 81 years of age, she was always elegant and was a very active person, walking from her home into Cannock Town Centre many times each week. She sadly died whilst on her way to St Luke’s Church for a Wednesday communion.
June had been an active member of the Club for over 37 years, following in the footsteps of her mother, Vi Bowen, a Soroptimist for 42 years. June’s daughter Debbie followed in the family tradition: between them these 3 women had worked to enable, educate and empower women through Soroptimism for 107 years. Members remember with pleasure the many hours spent at June’s home or in her wonderful garden, raising funds for many worthwhile causes to support women locally and internationally: June was always the first to offer to host an event and her cakes were legendary! In keeping with all that June believed in, donations made in lieu of flowers were for the SI Diamond Education Grant. Its purpose is to provide grants to assist women to update their skills after employment breaks or to acquire new skills to improve their opportunities for employment and promotion. Within a very few weeks the Club has lost two of its stalwart members: Dora Leighton and June Hardman. They will both be sorely missed.
Council Helps Another Local Business Expand RSD Pressing Ltd (formerly C& H Howe) has successfully relocated to a new larger facility at Watling Street Cannock with help from the Council. RSD Pressing Ltd, presswork and projection welding engineers are an important long established business in the District and have moved from existing rented premises of 2100 sq.m to significantly larger purpose built freehold accommodation of 3000 sq.m. The company have made a significant financial investment in the relocation and now has plenty of space to grow and expand, as well as looking at creating an additional 10 jobs. The Council helped by giving them discretionary business rate relief, which supports business growth and inward investment and is funded by Cannock Chase Council. The support is aimed at helping businesses in the District to grow and expand. Councillor Gordon Alcott, Economic Development and Planning Portfolio Leader said “RSD Pressings Ltd have received support for their expansion which has created extra capacity to produce additional work at their new premises in Cannock and create 10 new jobs. This is a great example of what the support can do for local businesses.” Robin Burton, Managing Director of RSD Pressings Limited said “The funding we received from the Council has 1

Patricia Pitt - Author of the Crystal System
The sport of Dressage is perceived as incredibly complicated and difficult within the equestrian world, but Patricia Pitt, author of The Crystal System which is a self help book for riders with the aim of clearing up some of the mysteries that surround the ability to ride with feel and subtlety, believes that anyone can develop the skills required to do dressage at some level.
And in her very motivational, positive style Patricia also illustrated the book to inject a little fun along the way; developing a cartoon character called Crystal, based on Mark’s Lusitano mare Sintra, who is trained to Grand Prix level.
Frustration and a feeling of failure, due to her own lack of progress and inability to find the key to unlock her riding potential has led Patricia, from Huntington, Nr Cannock, Staffordshire to the launch of her new book The Crystal System. “I had a dream that I wanted to be more than just mediocre and to ride really well. I struggled for many years and become increasingly frustrated until one day I had an ‘epiphany’, I couldn’t go on getting nowhere and decided find out why my dream was so elusive”. By researching many training methods and turning to her long suffering partner, Mark Bentley, she began a journey of discovery. Mark, a very naturally talented rider, was instrumental in helping Patricia along her journey. “I would share my findings and give hints and tips on my blog at www.likecrystal.com and The Dressage Tipster Facebook page; I figured there might be others with the same issues as me. I was right, I won an equestrian blogging award in 2014 and the subscription list is growing fairly rapidly. I also have a Facebook following in excess of 10,000” Patricia did not intend to write a self-help book for dressage enthusiasts but she says “I had this body of work and realised that there was no method of pulling it all together and actually, it was this that had been missing from my training. It was a logical path to follow, so I set about pulling everything together, simplifying it and turning into a very easy to follow, easy to read system that can be enjoyed by any equestrian, however inexperienced for experienced”. 1 STAFFORDSHIRE STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK OUTLOOK || FEBRUARY MARCH 2016 20 2016
Patricia has now secured sponsorship with Blue Chip Feeds and is on track for her aspirations to compete, which may just inspire a second book. The reviews from the equestrian community so far for The Crystal System have been excellent. The book is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in riding. “I will continue to share my experiences on the blog and hopefully another body of work will develop that could help my fellow equestrians realise their dreams. I loved doing the illustrations too, a cartoon strip might be fun.” Patricia looks forward to what 2016 will bring for herself, her partner Mark and their horses.

DON’T BE LEFT IN THE DARK
Our lives are becoming ever more dependent on electricity. If the power to our home is cut, are we happy with cold water, no heating, no internet, reading by candlelight, worrying about the food in the freezer thawing, being locked in or out by electric gates, etc? The UK has a narrowing gap between the amount of power the grid can deliver and the demands placed upon it. As well as power cuts due to line damage during storms, the UK has a growing grid supply problem with excess capacity headroom for the winter of 2015-16 being forecast as low as 1.5GW(1). It will take many years to resolve this and most experts now agree there will be no significant upturn before sufficient nuclear-powered electricity can be generated to bridge the gap (probably be 2035). When this gap is closed or part of the supply infrastructure is damaged – the lights will go out. Don’t be left in the dark. A standby generator system will automatically turn itself on when the mains power fails and supply anything from a few circuits to the whole building. When mains power is restored the system shuts down and reverts to standby for when it is next needed. 28

Shire Horse Society National Show in Staffordshire HISTORY TO BE MADE AT WORLD’S LARGEST GATHERING OF SHIRE HORSES History will be made at this year’s Shire Horse Society National Show when, for the first time, British heavy horses will be able to qualify for a golden ticket to a ridden class at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show. Riding heavy horses has become increasingly popular, and now HOYS is adding a British Ridden Heavy Horse championship to its event, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC from Wednesday 5th to Sunday 9th October 2016. The first ever qualifying round for the championship will be held at the Shire Horse Society’s National Show, which runs 18th to 20th March 2016 at the Staffordshire Showground. Wendy Toomer-Harlow, a founder member of the British Ridden Heavy Horse Society and a council member of the Shire Horse Society, said: “The BRHHS have been in talks with Hoys for some time regarding a British Ridden Heavy Horse Championship and we are very grateful to Grandstand Media for agreeing to hosting this new HOYS ridden qualifier. “This championship will give heavy horse riders the opportunity to showcase our four magnificent indigenous British heavy horse breeds, the Shire, Clydesdale, Percheron and Suffolk to both a national and international audience and display to people just what these versatile heavy horse breeds are capable of under saddle alongside their established draught uses. “The Shire Horse Society National Show will host the first ever Horse of the Year Show Ridden Heavy Horse qualifying round and in doing so the society will take its place in the history of ridden showing. This is a very exciting time for all those enthusiasts who are involved in the world of heavy horses and passionate about the furtherance and promotion of our British breeds of Shire, Clydesdale, Percherons and Suffolk going forward into the 21st Century.” 30 1
STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK | MARCH 2016 STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK | MARCH 2016
The Shire Horse Society National Show is the world’s largest gathering of Shires, with around 200 due to be put through their paces - shown in-hand, ridden and in harness.
The iconic breed was in danger of dying out just a few decades ago, and even now fewer than 500 new foals are registered every year by the Shire Horse Society.
The show, which has been held at a limited number of venues in England over its long history, is believed to be one of the oldest, almost continuous, horse shows in the world, having been held for the first time at the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington, London, in 1880, when the charity was named the English Cart Horse Society.
The charity has been running a Save Our Shires campaign to raise awareness about these gentle giants and numbers have steadily increased, thanks to the dedication of a band of enthusiasts.
This year it returns with a new venue and a new format – running over three days instead of two and being held for the first time at the Staffordshire Showground, to cater for a growing interest in the event. The ridden classes, including the qualifying class for the HOYS championship, are being held on Friday 18th March and will also feature dressage and concours d’elegance to highlight the grace and elegance of the gentle giants of the horse world. Shires will be shown in all their glory on Saturday and Sunday in the in-hand and harness classes. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the show, which is the flagship event of the Shire Horse Society - the only charity dedicated to the protection, promotion and improvement of the Shire horse.
Tickets for the show, which also includes stalls and exhibitor stands for the public to browse, are now on sale via the Shire Horse Society’s website www.shire-horse.org.uk Follow the charity on Facebook or Twitter https://www.facebook.com/ shirehorsesociety and @saveourshires The event takes place from noon to 6pm on Friday 18th March, from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 19th March and from 8am to 4pm on Sunday 20th March 2016. Tickets cost £4 in advance and £5 on the gate for Friday 18th March. Tickets in advance are £8 for adults and £6 for under 12s and seniors, and £12 for adults and £10 for under 12s and seniors on the gate, on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March.
Entry is free for Shire Horse Society members.

Alan, MD of Three Pines Building Company
the ability to see in my mind the finished project and still being able to learn every day – these are the things that drive me,” he says. As head of Three Pines Building Company in Wolverhampton, Alan champions the National Apprentice Scheme, the “thorough” career route to his own accomplishments. “We always have two or three. It’s hard for kids out there and people like us need to give them a chance,” he adds. By the time Alan had left school, his father David had already established Three Pines doing school maintenance, extensions and local council adaptations for houses. But he refused to let his son join the family business without a trade. “It was a wise choice. I spent three years with Sir Alfred McAlpine, was their Apprentice of The Year, and at the end of my time with them had been appointed assistant site agent on a McDonalds project at New Street Station, Birmingham. “McDonalds were just establishing themselves in the UK and I had three of the top bosses from McAlpine come to try to talk me out of leaving,” says Alan. Joining in 1982, the transition into the family firm held more than a few surprises.
Meet the boss:
Premier player with quality hallmark Life-long Wolves fan Alan Bradshaw knows a lot about building a quality, winning team. In recent years a clutch of premiership contracts has seen his construction company comfortably sitting at the top of its game. Just like the club he has followed since a boy, Alan is an influential player in the building business, securing prestigious ‘trophies’ with the likes of Mercedes, BMW, Audi, the multinational BOC Group, Caterpillar, celebrity hairdressers Royston Blythe, local authorities and the Ministry of Defence. Not least, is the work he has overseen at the Molineux Stadium. “We’ve been doing 34 STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK | MARCH 2016 34
work there for 20 years and have refurbished the executive boxes and the reception,” he says. At 53 this managing director, who sits comfortably in his own skin as a carpenter turned executive, has nothing to prove, but refuses to rest on his laurels. “I’m always seeking opportunity – you have to – whether it’s new projects with existing clients, investment into our own housing development schemes, a domestic extension or an adaptation for the disabled... “Ever since my teens I wanted to be in construction, I still want to be in construction and I’m still passionate about building. “Talking to clients, doing such a wide range of work, having
“I thought I’d be doing carpentry. It was my trade and I was good at it, but the first thing I did was to work as a labourer carrying bricks for a bricklayer. I spent six months doing that and then another six months with a plumber. “From there I was taken into the offices one day a week – later two days – doing the wages. Eventually, I was permanently in the office. “The experience allowed me to understand everything about my father’s business. Even now, when I’m on site and need to explain something, I’ll often take up the tools and show the men how I want something done. I can still do the job and they respect me for it,” says Alan. With 12 staff and 25 other directly employed workers, Three Pines boasts a workforce where some, now highly-skilled craftsmen, came on a Youth Training Scheme in the ‘80s and decided to stay. Why? “Family values extend beyond my home and I treat the staff as part of that family.”

RECIPE
Serves 4 By Michael Peter Whitehurst
confit duck
I love the combination of roasted duck with a hint of star anise and that it matches so perfectly well with celeriac, especially when roasted. This dish is becoming very popular at the dinner parties I do. I think people are becoming a little more adventurous with different flavours and this shows from what they order off my menu. Try it yourself or hire me to come and cook it for you if you like. This is for a casual family service style dinner party but It can be served in a more formal way or you can adjust it to create a really lovely salad. I think it is quite simply the perfect combination of big flavours all on one plate. EquipmEnt: • 1 deep roasting dish (300mm x 200mm and 100mm deep ideally) • A roll of strong kitchen foil • Tongs • Thick oven cloth • Food processor • Spatula • Chopping board • Cooks knife • Pestle and mortar 42 STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK | MARCH 2016 24
ingrEdiEnts for thE confit: • 4 duck legs • 1 whole star anise • 10 all spice berries • 2 sprigs of rosemary • 2 sprigs of thyme • Maldon sea salt • 1 whole garlic cut in half horizontally • 5 litres of deep frying rapeseed oil or duck fat but thats the expensive version. ingrEdiEnts for thE rEst of thE dish: • 1 celeriac - quartered • Tender-stem broccoli - tops only (save the stalks to dip in hummus) • Pistachios unsalted and shelled • Toasted pumpkin seeds • 1 Garlic clove • Mallon sea salt • 1 bottle of cold pressed rapeseed oil • a few sprigs of flat leaf parsley • 1 tub of double cream • a few sprigs of watercress • a stick of fresh horseradish • a loaf of spelt and rye sour dough bread, the recipe is below this one. wolverhampton west magazine | march 2016

You can slice the peel away from the flesh once it has roasted and cooled. Intimate Waxing
Due to the sensitive nature of intimate waxing we offer a free consultation prior to treatment and advice on any area of waxing you are concerned about. If you do decide to try intimate waxing we recommend you exfoliate gently 3 days prior to hair removal and allow the hairs to grow for a minimum of 4 weeks prior to treatment. On the day of treatment the skin is prepared with Blue Lotion, a low
alcohol cleanser especially recommended for delicate areas and sensitive skin, before adding a few drops of Jasmine Oil to ensure the wax clings to the hairs and not the skin. After treatment the waxed area is to be kept clean, avoiding heat and friction for 24-48 hours. We advise that you do not apply any deodorants, body sprays, make-up, perfume or lotions to the waxed area during that period. However we do recommend the use of Lemon Myrtle multi-purpose liquid soap (sold in salon) to tackle possible ingrowing hairs and post waxing irritation. It is made from all natural ingredients, suitable for sensitive skin, contains Lemon Myrtle essential oils, has 30% more antibacterial properties than T-tree oil and can be used as an invigorating body wash that cleanses and protects the skin. Finally a few days after your appointment gently exfoliate up to 3 times a week, moisturise every day to keep skin soft and smooth.

high quality wax. The range includes hypoallergenic waxes, moisturising natural waxes, strip and non-strip waxes, scented and unscented. The waxes are perfect for both male and female waxing treatments including intimate waxing. We use non-strip waxing in the salon specifically for intimate hair removal as the waxes literally shrink wrap the hair, removing the entire hair with its roots from the follicle, leaving the skin undamaged. Since the wax sticks to the hair and not the skin it takes the smack like sting out of the process you get with strip waxing hair removal. We have found regular waxing with this method weakens and slows down hair regrowth and produces results that last longer.

With these awards we honour clinics that are dedicated to the highest level of customer care and consistently putting the needs of the patient first.” WhatClinic awarded the top clinics across the country with awards for excellent customer service, superior satisfaction and consumer feedback. Customers rated clinics based on how well the clinic treated them, how quickly they were contacted and seen, and how happy they were with the treatment. UltraSlim Clinics was honoured with the award due to their fantastic customer feedback and constant drive to better patient experience. Last year the clinic received the 2015 Customer Service Award in addition to a 5 Star Treatment Award from WhatClinic.com after receiving over 30 online reviews from clients following treatments such as non-invasive Ultrasound Cavitation Lipo and Cryolipolysis LipoFreeze who rated the clinic “Excellent” with 5 Stars. The clinic boasts some of the highest reviews in the industry throughout the whole of the UK and on the WhatClinic.com website. Hanna McCormac, owner of UltraSlim Clinics today said; “We are delighted to be recognised again for our commitment to customer service. As a practice, it is something we focus on in everything we do. Given the nature of the treatments we offer our clients we are very customer focused and results driven, so to receive such positive feedback from our clients for two consecutive years is great.” WhatClinic.com CEO Caelen King congratulated UltraSlim Clinics and said “Our awards are now in their 7th year and it’s great to see more clinics than ever reaching the high standards we set in order to receive this award.

Sue Starr Hypnotherapy COMMITMENT FACILITATES LONG LASTING CHANGE RATHER THAN A TEMPORARY FIX “Throughout the last year, my client base has continued to increase. Clinical Hypnotherapy continues to develop credibility as a leading alternative therapy and features in many media stories mostly for the right reasons! Our point of difference is that we include more behavioural tools, such as CBT and NLP, alongside Hypnotherapy to support clients in achieving their personal goals”. Sue Starr Hypnotherapy has over the last 3 years established itself as a leading practice in South Staffordshire. Sue continues “Teenagers and young children (as young as 6) are an increasing part of my client base; they tend to be great fun to work with and engage really well with therapy. The diversity of issues faced can range from low confidence, anxieties, exam pressures and bullying. GP and school referrals for this continue to highlight a broader shortage in support for young people where quick response is essential” As well as the regular client base, last summer saw an increase in people wanting Hypnotherapy prior to weddings. Best Man speeches, Bride confidence and self-esteem concerns have so far been supported by Sue, “Weddings are supposed to be the best day of a couples lives, however, this pressure of being in the spotlight, organising so much and wanting it to be perfect can be overwhelming. We help with the mindset so that the big day can be fully enjoyed by confident, in control Brides,
Grooms and the Best Man!” The most important thing is that a client really wants a beneficial change for themselves and that they are committed to making a change. Expecting a magic wand result with no hard work or challenges is not the case with Hypnotherapy. “Many people nowadays want quick fixes with no effort; Hypnotherapy requires dedication from the client to bring about change. But combining Hypnotherapy and client commitment facilitates long lasting change rather than a temporary fix!” Sue Starr Dip Hyp, DNLP, GQHP, GHRreg is a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and is registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register, General Hypnotherapy Standards Council, and the NHS recognised Complimentary & Natural Healthcare Council. You would be mad not to visit us in March WE HAVE NOW MADE ‘MONDAY’ – ‘MANDAY’ How did we get here so quickly? It does not seem like five minutes since we were celebrating Christmas and now we are in March! ‘March’ comes from Latin ‘Martius’, the first month of the earliest Roman calendar, since the Romans originally considered winter a monthless period. It was named after Mars, the Roman god of war who was also regarded as a guardian of agriculture and an ancestor of the Roman people through his sons Romulus and Remus. His month Martius was the beginning of the season for both farming and warfare, and the festivals held in his honour during the month were mirrored by others in October, when the season for these activities came to a close. Martius remained the first month of the Roman calendar year perhaps as late as 153 BC, and several religious observances in the first half of the month were originally new year’s celebrations. March 1st began the numbered year in Russia until the end of the 15th century. Great Britain and its colonies continued to use March 25 until 1752, when they finally adopted the Gregorian calendar. Many other cultures and religions still celebrate the beginning of the New Year in March. So, if your New Year’s resolutions have stalled, here is another opportunity to start your year! We are happy to help and are encouraging our clients to visit the ‘Healthy Living’ page on our website and take the free lifestyle analysis, there is then a complete range of products available to help with Detox or the ‘Healthy Starter’ pack, plus many more. You can order directly from the website or by phone, alternatively you could discuss the options with your therapists when you next visit. At the Chase CACI Clinic we have now made ‘Monday’ – ‘Manday’ where men are encouraged to visit us and experience the benefit they can get from having both CACI treatments and using ‘Heaven’ men’s products. Heaven is a truly unisex range and we are seeing impressive results on men who admit that they previously would not have dreamt of visiting a clinic or using facial products, other than shaving foam and after shave. We were amazed in January to receive another accolade: The Chase CACI Clinic has been selected as ‘a top 50

performing CACI salon to be interviewed and featured in the beauty industry’s premier trade magazine as a way of showcasing the success of the salon and promoting their story’. These success stories are run monthly in the ‘Guild News’ which is the UK’s Highest Circulating Beauty Trade Magazine. ‘This series of success stories started in January of last year and is planned to continue throughout 2016 as a way to showcase and inspire other CACI salons owners’. The Clinic is also featured in the March Edition of Greater Birmingham Chamberlink magazine. We have two CACI Machines – ‘The Ultimate’ and ‘The Quantum’ which can be used in differing ways. They can be used in conjunction with our Radio frequency machine to enhance results, add to these the Heaven’ products and you can see why we are achieving such impressive outcomes. In addition, we have the ‘Apilus’ machine which is used for hair, skin tag and milia removal, to complete the stable, we have a facial steamer! The Clinic also now stocks the ‘Tropic’ range of products and makeup. This is a new and very ethically produced range that is approved by both the Vegan Society and Cruelty Free International which is the leading organisation working to end animal experiments worldwide. Why not treat yourself to a free consultation, sample our wonderful ‘Combination Therapies’ and wide range of marvellous products? You won’t regret it!

Stretch Mark Reduction that really works! HELPING PEOPLE FEEL BETTER IN THEIR SKIN FOR OVER 20 YEARS Unsightly stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body and they can often occur as a result of weight gain. Stretch marks pose no health risk and don’t compromise your body’s ability to function healthily. They are most likely to appear in places where fat is stored, including the thighs, breasts, abdomen, upper arms and buttocks. Much of the blame for the appearance of stretch marks can be laid at your parent’s door; a significant factor when considering why one individual may have them and not another, is their inherited genes. Weight gain from pregnancy or dieting, loss of skin elasticity and good old fashioned ‘bad luck’ all play their part. However they arise, the effect of stretch marks on self-confidence is immense and debilitating. The Cottage Surgery - established in 1992, has over 20years valuable experience in treating a variety of skin types with diverse problems, from acne and acne scarring to pigmentation and sun damage. They are at the forefront of innovative treatment methods and thoroughly test and monitor new programmes for efficacy and value for money. They are proud to be able to offer a non-invasive treatment that effectively reduces the appearance of unsightly stretch marks.
only devices, not the short needle devices often imported and unregulated via China! Dermaroller is a registered single-use medical device which is NOT available in salons or outlets without qualified staff. The Clinical Dermaroller used at The Cottage Surgery contain 192 sterile scalpel sharp needles, each one being 1.5 mm long and set at an exact angle of 87.5°. The rollers have been developed, to provide the maximum effect, with the minimum trauma, by stimulating a wound healing response deep within the skin, generating type 3collagen without the risk of permanent scarring. Micro Needling Therapy can also hugely improve acne or atrophic scars, facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles, sun-damaged skin and pigmentation. Even the backs of hands respond beautifully! This has all been confirmed by independent clinical trials and provides an effective alternative to laser skin-resurfacing. Topical anaesthetic is applied to minimise discomfort and treatment takes around 1 hour depending on the size of the area. In most cases, skin can tolerate mineral make-up application on the same day and normally settles within 2 to 3 days. The generation of new collagen begins 6 weeks after and continues for up to 6 months.
Micro Needling Therapy
(MNT) is a highly effective treatment which stimulates new collagen to form at a deep level; it is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage, such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury to the skin, the body re-uses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new ones. The concept of ‘Skin Needling’ or ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’, Skin Needling allows for controlled induction of this self-repair mechanism. In turn, this re-models and tightens the skin, enhancing its architecture and improving overall skin appearance & texture. The Cottage Surgery has perfected the use of (MNT) using the Clinical Dermaroller to reduce the appearance of stretch marks for many of its clients. These are the professional use 56

American Owned Company Plans Major Distribution Facility In Cannock Through its London-based European arm, Exeter Property Group has lodged a major planning application with Cannock Chase Council to secure consent to build a substantial distribution warehouse on a 20 acre plot of land at Kingswood Business Park in Cannock. The proposed building, which extends to a total of 372,000sq ft, also includes offices of 15,000sq ft and 329 car parking spaces on the site which is located immediately to the north of Blakeney Way adjacent to the Unilever building. If approved, this will be Exeter Property Group’s second major new logistics development in the UK, which will involve an inward investment into Cannock in excess of £20 million. Midlands-based developers Graftongate assisted Exeter with the site identification and acquisition, and are retained by Exeter as Development Managers to procure the building delivery. Exeter and Graftongate intend to construct the new building speculatively, which should prove attractive to large modern logistics operators, generating a significant number of new jobs and revenue for the area. With over 85 million square feet of industrial properties under management in primary markets across the U.S.
and Europe, Exeter is a real estate partner to hundreds of tenants, from global distributors to local entrepreneurs. Commenting on the submission of the planning application Councillor Gordon Alcott, the Portfolio Leader for Economic Development & Planning said “Not only is this proposal significant for the job creation potential it brings, it is also hugely significant in its potential to be one the largest speculative development schemes proposed within the West Midlands region over the last 10 years, and a massive vote of confidence in Cannock Chase District as a location to invest in”. Rhodri Davies, Project & Investment Services Director from Exeter Property Group’s London office said ““We are delighted to have secured this strategic site for the development new logistics space and look forward to working closely with Cannock Chase Council to ensure its’ successful delivery into the market. Kingswood Business Park in Cannock has become a focal point for corporate occupier relocations, with a strong labour pool and excellent motorway connections for modern logistics operations. The Midlands property market is attractive to such occupiers, given its’ regional and national significance for efficient distribution. There is a shortage of available large buildings across the Midlands and strong occupier demand, so we are confident of attracting another major job-creating user to the area.”

Skoda Yeti:1.2 litre TSI SE
BY ROB TAYLOR
ONE THAT IS AS GOOD OFF-ROAD AS ON THE SCHOOL RUN
A car that lives up to its marketing hype is usually as elusive as Bigfoot himself. But the Skoda Yeti is a rare beast; one that stands tall amidst its manufacturer’s claims, never skulking ashamedly in the undergrowth. Until now such a vehicle – one that is genuinely as good at off-road fun as on the school run – has held near mythic status, in the sub-25k mid-size crossover market. However, the Yeti somehow manages to successfully straddle the two disparate worlds, mixing oil and water. that’s if you buy the range-topping 4x4 150 bhp diesel variant, of course. But the reality is that most crossover’s see more supermarket car parks than rugged mountain dales and consequently have to drive a very fine line indeed, making sure not to disappoint the many who prefer to keep their wheels firmly fixed on tarmac’d terra firma. This model – the 2WD 1.2 litre TSI SE – has a 108 bhp turbo’d petrol engine, allied to a five-speed ‘box. It has a frugal, four-cylinder powerplant that delivers, at best, 51.mpg but never lacks the requisite performance needed for daily life, mainly because 1 60
STAFFORDSHIRE OUTLOOK | MARCH MARCH2016 2016
maximum torque arrives at a very useable 2000 rpm. This Yeti boasts the now ubiquitous start/stop function to help record a Co2 figure of 128 g/km, as well as a system designed to employ surplus energy from the alternator to power ancillary engine components and appease our E.U overlords. The two-wheel drive option is more than capable in the main but, should you wish to opt for the 4x4 alternative, you’ll find that the Yeti is as adept as its namesake at handling treacherous terrain. But that’s not to say that the ride and the chassis isn’t sharp enough on the road: it handles every twist and turn, pothole and bump, with considerable aplomb; giving short shrift to the local council’s ambivalence towards road-surface maintenance. The steering is involving without being demanding; the gearshift, slick and effortless. Clearly Skoda’s engineers have given a lot of consideration to how the Yeti feels, never accepting that the drive need only be incidental. Then again, if comfort and practicality are rather more your bag, then the Yeti monsters the competition in this regard also. Models are now available with
the usual S, SE and SEL spec, that between them include leather seats, air-conditioning, seven air-bags, park-assist sensors, Bluetooth, Ipod connectivity and ESP. There is also satellite navigation with a large 6.5” screen. In addition, there is a commodious cabin, equipped with substantial and sleek fitments. A versatile rear-seating system affords the user more options on seating configuration than your average school classroom; seats swivel, lift, rotate and can be removed altogether to offer van-like proportions. Prices start from as little as £17,000 and for that you get a very sound core product, with plenty of choice to ‘specup’ in to infinity. And Skoda offers a range of petrol and diesel engines to suit every driver, from heavy-footed spendthrifts to ultra-conservative Ecowarriors. Even though the Yeti is in a perennially awkward class of vehicle – SUV/ crossover – there is no trace of identity crisis, no one aspect in its design seems to have been unduly compromised. There are no flashes of pretentiousness or aspirational affectation: this is the very best in unfussy, honest motoring for the 21st Century.

Why choose Tettenhall College? A UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE WITH REMARKABLE OPPORTUNITIES WHERE EVERY PUPIL ACHIEVES THEIR PERSONAL BEST.
Founded in 1863, Tettenhall College is an independent school for boys and girls aged 2 to 18 years. Located on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Tettenhall, the school sits in a beautiful setting of over 30 acres of historic woodlands. With outstanding on-site facilities in a safe and secure environment, pupils are known, taught and nurtured as individuals within a genuine family atmosphere. Pupils thrive in the School’s inspiring and supportive environment. We are proud of the commitment of our staff, and the partnership between the School and parents fosters a unique atmosphere in which our pupils flourish. Children are encouraged and supported in being the very best they can, having a positive mind-set and developing a true sense of self-worth. Manners and courtesy are important; good humour and care for one another central. Through the remarkable opportunities that we offer with extensive extra-curricular activities, pupils are able to discover their own individual talents and interests and pursue them to the best of their abilities. Academically, our small class sizes and focus on the individual’s learning style ensures that our pupils always achieve their personal best. We have a strong 66

reputation for the quality of our teaching throughout our School, from the initial love of learning that is developed in our younger pupils to the A level courses that our Sixth Formers shine in. We make full use of our stunning location with an on-site Forest School, full sized rugby, football and cricket pitches plus a swimming pool and theatre. Lessons are geared to stimulate and stretch pupils at all levels, and teachers effectively gauge individual ability and personal strengths to encourage the fulfilment of every pupil’s potential. All of the key attributes of a highly successful school are to be found in our latest inspection reports. These make reference to outstanding pastoral care, excellent arrangements for welfare, good progress in learning and academic achievement and exemplary pupil behaviour. At the end of their school journey our leavers are equipped with excellent academic qualifications, essential life skills and a lasting set of values. Take the opportunity to take a closer look, we’d love to show you around. To arrange a visit please contact our Admissions team on 01902 751119 or email admissions@tettcoll.co.uk.
