We believe the spatial experience is significant to our lives, and we aspire to design architecture which touches the human spirit while meeting your practical and functional needs. Our design work is multi-disciplinary and does not follow a particular style, but rather looks into the foundations of history as well as the innovations of the future. ideas Collaborative is an integrated project delivery design organization, emphasizing human comfort, high performance, sustainability, and attention to detail. Every project is an exploration towards discovery, inspiration and realization. We have extensive experience in the planning and design of educational facilities projects, with a broad range of project type experience in the Southern California Region. We are well versed in the funding and approval challenges that face public facilities and will work with you closely to plan and execute the project accordingly.

Marine Science Research Building & Donald Bren School (Randall Leach PM w/ZGF Architects) University of California, Santa Barbara, CA 84,600 SF/6 LEVELS/CLASSROOMS/FACULTY OFFICES/LABORATORIES
The new 84,600 SF Donald Bren School provides lab space, classrooms, conference rooms, and administrative space for the School of Environmental Sciences and Management. The innovative green design addressed specific sustainable criteria: site development, building location, water usage, building materials, and indoor air quality. A strict site protection plan was developed as a means of retaining all storm water on site. This would protect the contamination of local waterways. In addition, a reclaimed water system was installed to conserve water for bathroom fixture and irrigation needs. Rooftop photovoltaic cells were also implemented in the design of the facility to generate energy for the building. Between 12-20% of the materials used in the project were recycled. Some of these materials included: 100% post consumer recycled carpet, glass tiles and countertops, flyash concrete, linoleum and natural cork flooring, stained concrete flooring, and bamboo millwork. This project was the first LEED platinum rated laboratory building in the United States and was also awarded the Savings by Design Award recipient.

This library expansion and renovation criteria was to more effectively serve the Whittier College and to meet current seismic design standards. The library provides the college with space for their growing collection as well as increased space for late night study and collaborative learning areas. The library also includes a Computing Center encouraging users to towards modern media technology.
Situated in an urban, 12 story context, the realized “dorm is designed to capture daylight and redirect it to all of the student residences beginning on the third level. The design team worked closely with the Boston Redevelopment Agency, Boston Civic Design Commission, and an integrated design consultancy group. The building has won several awards for sustainability, and outperforms other similar tall buildings in the extreme weather of the Northeast.
