ome colors seduce us, some colors define us. Particularly a color that has exploded into life to become an influence to the whole world.

Nothing can prepare you for the utter beauty that Red possesses. Most famous of them all, no other color has done so much in revealing beauty, than Red. Stalletto reaches beneath the service and into the hidden desires of what Red truly is. Uncompromising, Red is sexy, romantic and glamorously passionate. Red is addicting and digs deep into the unconscious liberal spectrum of one’s imagination. Red changes the key aspect of emotion that rips out the rules of harmony and expressively searches for its own language. Red is metaphorically inspiring. It’s incredible conviction changes the direction of how we see color.

I

n the 1920s fabric and color played an important role in fashion history. Designers payed attention to what color would be portrayed on a women's figure as well as the implications of what the color itself actually meant.

Not only did the fabric have to be suitable for the garment the fabric and color had to be suitable for the design. Red was either used as a bold statement in an entire ensemble, or in accent pieces such as; a pair of gloves, a hat or even as detailed as part of the fabric print.

In the 1920s fashion fabric prints and patterns was the determining factor when designing for the characteristics of a women's figure, and determined what was good fashion sense and what was not. The Great Gatsby era created a time where being bold was the only way to show off one’s fashion independence. Keeping with the signature style; beautifully beaded flapper dresses and flowing gowns that gracefully puddled on the floor, women began adding red as a way to make bold statements when stepping out to a fabulous party to dance the night away, to chat while sipping on a bubbly glass of champagne or just to be noticed by the handsome gentlemen across the room. Red and all of its’ significance can never be denied, even in the roaring 20s!

A

red evening gown is certain to get a woman noticed not to mention the accoutrements of luxe fur and ruby rhinestone earrings. Red is the color that flatters every skin type from the palest alabaster to the darkest ebony. In many Asian cultures a bride chooses to be married in red wedding dresses, since the color symbolizes joy and luck. Perhaps that is one of the fascinations of a red dress. Quite simply, you get lucky in red. While popular in past years, Red has made a vast comeback to today’s trends; you’ll find both celebrities and pin-up enthusiasts wearing a red dress from past decades. Valentino famously made the color red his signature hue which today still fashions a connection to the glamour he presented to the 1940s. However, the Golden Age of Cinema has long recognized the power and alluring seduction of red. Think of Vivien Leigh in her scarlet Walter Plunket design from Gone with the W ind in 1939. Travis Beaton, famously outfitted Rita Hayworth in red during the 1940s. The 1950s were all about red from Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in matching beaded ruby Travilla’s in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, to Elizabeth Taylor in an ultra-sultry red cocktail dress with a white fox fur. Truthfully, a red dress can steal a grown mans heart. Gene Tierney’s red evening dress from the late 1940s simulated a keen sense of seduction with its over-the shoulder design and her highly recognized high cheek bones. What makes any of these dress designs so enthralling? It’s the color Red, of course. What is the ultimate red dress that takes timeless glamour from the 1940s to a current era? Many will say it’s with costume designer Marilyn VanceStraker, who designed Julia Roberts silk red opera dress for Pretty Woman in 1990. This red dress represented the pinnacle of Roberts character’s progression into a ‘lady’. It’s bright, eye-catching coloration and daring deep v-cut with off the shoulder sleeves, elevates her characters beauty. A red gown is not for the faint at heart. It is for the woman who wants to be noticed, remembered and lucky in love. Wear red at your own risk. It will cause heads to turn and hearts to skip a beat. As red carries many hues such as Scarlet, Lust and Spanish red, they are all associated with love, passion and power. One thing is certain, you will always get noticed as the lady in red.

The seduction behind Red, is the color itself.

We don’t mind being politically incorrect when it comes to Red. We’d rather give it to you straight and to the Red point.

T

he magic of a Red leather jacket is simple. Leather jacket retro style was once all the rage. The 1980s-1990s leather trend bombarded department stores that were filled with every leather jacket length, color and style. The major stores “Wilson’s House of Suede and Leather, coveted every mall on the West Coast. Designers such as: Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Ford, Gucci and many additional high-end designers, exploded with Red leather, be it-mini, midi or maxi-length designs for men as well as women, in a world when Michael Jackson and his Red leather jackets, worn in the dynamic music videos ; “Thriller” and “Beat It’, gave everyone a chance or an excuse to run down to the mall to buy a Red leather jacket. Some even duplicated Michael Jacksons entire ensembles.

Red in itself, as we have shown throughout this issue, is sophisticated, sexy, classy and glamorous. There is no end to the dominating factor and beauty that red possesses. Adding Red to any fashion ensemble is like adding delicious icing to a cake. The cake is tasty, but without the icing...well you get the metaphor. Vintage and even Thrift stores everywhere have loaded their clothing racks with leather coats and jackets. This is because some folks don’t realize the comeback that leather is making, so they donate their mostly unworn and in extremely good condition-leather jackets to the charity stores or sell them at yard sales. Smart vintage and retro enthusiastic shoppers, venture on down to those locations to snatch up the gold, either to resell it or keep it for themselves realizing what a great find they had just encountered. A Red leather jacket should be a staple in every woman's closet. You can’t go wrong. For those days when you are not quite sure your outfit looks the way you want it to, throw on a red leather jacket and voilà you have just created sophisticated style.

This is where Red works its’ magic on sophistication. The outfit itself is classy but a bit conservative. When adding a Red leather jacket, the outfit now becomes chic with tons of sex appeal. Even with earth toned colors, Red has tied it all together to create a masterpiece. That is the right with Red, you can’t go wrong

M

ore than any other color, red tends to evoke a form of psychological authority and awe. When we think about red, it may seem appropriate to do so with the mindset that is heavily influenced by love, achievement and dominance. But it would be a mistake to assume that red only meant these things if only worn as a garment choice. While many women adore the scarlet hue as the form of dressing, the glamourous and daring will find it to present fearlessness if worn as their signature color. The 1940s was a decade for Red Lipstick. Women’s lips had been dedicated of shades of deep red, brick red, light red, apple red and blue based raspberry reds. This daring beauty statement has always been symbolized as mysterious yet bold. Such a pigment choice pairs well with all skin types. Red lipstick combined with red nails is a lifestyle not a trend, which in return continues to exceed any other hue sold. The classic red lip can paint any event in your life with timeless grace, prompting a wondering eye to stop and stare. In 1944 Rita Hayworth was the first Hollywood scarlet to turn red lips into a signature look with many other film sirens to follow. One of those actresses was funny girl and iconic red head, Lucille Ball in 1947 wither popular sitcom; I Love Lucy, then in later years with blonde bombshell and American sex iconic Marilyn Monroe. Perhaps the greatest gift from such a lip color is how it provides a lure of looking feminine while remaining powerful was such a glorious notion, it’s no wonder women started to use red lipstick as a tool to communicate their own selfpossession.

For many of the world’s most intelligent and charismatic women, red lipstick is a source of strength that presents a sign of self assurance of collective confidence. Even from the act of applying red lipstick is empowering. By dressing your lips in red, it draws people’s attention to you, especially your mouth, and subsequently, the words that come out of it. A significant truth is what red lipstick says without speaking which is, “I care about how I look.” It’s about making a confident statement, without necessarily following a trend.

I might add that red lips has a mesmerizing effect on men, so carry a luxurious leather set of gloves to swat them away.

Treat your lips to red this holiday season. Let it be your color of choice to make any outfit, red or not, come to life. Enjoy the attention and the smiles that comes with the admiration of beautiful red lips. Go all red this holiday season or any season for that matter. Red fits in to each and every one of them. And if you dare, vintage glamour style is the way to go. A red dress, red leather gloves will flatter your red lips. Accent your red outfit with a beautiful vintage Christmas brooch along with a vintage gold purse and you are on your way to complete style. It takes a confident woman to pull off all red. Are you that woman?

The Dahlia is one of the most intriquing flower in the world.

The color red, no matter how you really want to observe, enjoy, wear or philosophize it, remains as one of the colors of evil, lust, mayhem, murder and deviousness. The intense reality of any color identifies its placement in life. We may not agree as to the overall sector or why a color was placed where it was as its determining factor, nonetheless we go along with the rules that a color means what we are told it means. Who is telling us this? Well your guess is good as ours. But let’s go along with the game and put a spotlight on Red in its obvious form of idealism. In films, red is the color of blood that oozes out of a mans head once shot with a pistol by his enemy. Then there’s “Little Red Riding Hood” who in theory sets off to her grandmas house carrying a basket of biscuits and tea, where soon, because of her Red cloak, gets noticed and becomes stalked by the hungry Big Bad Wolf.

What about “Hell hath no fury like a women scorned” where a woman loves or hates her man, and must pay him back for his wrong-doings by scheming to get revenge on whatever it was he did in the first place to put his women in such a state of devious revenge. Carrying along with the metaphor where she becomes so extremely and intensely upset to a point that her behavior becomes out of control, it is said that- “SHE SAW RED” When scheming, what other way to manipulate a set up other than to put on a sexy red dress where behind his back, she holds the key to true danger. And without, (or so she thinks), his awareness of what is to become of him in the near future. Until...he makes his move to diminish her ability to complete her evil scheming devious task, by putting her in a manipulative state of love and lust, where he then portrays the rude awakening to her that he was the one scheming after-all. Red-like a piano, will always hold the power to change a mood or idea from good to evil with just one note.

Red and animal print are very best friends. They style and play well together. When it comes to vintage glamour, have fun mixing and matching your reds, patterns and materials. What better way to show off your unique expression of style.

We assume without prejudice, that a Femme Fatale starts off with the idea that she will eventually victimize her lover, for spite, pity or jealously. We never really consider the thought that the culprit Femme Fatale has great purpose and meaning behind any of her devilish deeds or acts towards her victim. We take for granted that her wickedness prevails without rhyme or reason.

Let’s reconsider the thought that perhaps the action taken by the Femme Fatale towards her victim, is justifiable and that the only way to resolve the pain and suffering created by the so-called victim, is to remove him. And while doing so, the Femme Fatale must be dressed in Red, the ultimate color that signifies the common denominator that results from the actions from Miss Femme Fatale to Mr. Victim.

f only she had kept her mouth shut, things wouldn’t have turned out this way.

nn didn’t care about Jack. If she had, things might have turned out differently. I would have been happy for her-for both of them. Sammy was living there at the time, and we had all been intimate with Jack, and I never had any ill will towards Sammy. But Ann, she enjoyed having control over other people’s emotions. Jack would come over, and she was always fresh from a soak, made up, draped in chiffon. She’d flirt, and caress and kiss him, looking right at me as she did it, trying to rile my nerves. Then Jack would leave and she’d say she had no interest in him but for his money. You see, I was married to Will at the time. He suffered terribly from multiple addictions. I felt so ashamed, because I truly loved my husband, but Jack was good to me when I was in my darkest place. He was the only man I’d ever been intimate with besides my husband and he was a dear friend. I hated that Ann seemed to enjoy manipulating him, and saying she was my friend, but manipulating my emotions as well-and knowing what a fragile state I was in.

A

nn taunted me, and her words rung in my head all night long, never permitting me to sleep. I would think of her when I laid down to sleep, of her incessant taunting, and my mind would craft terrible scenarios to make the taunts stop. I just wanted to sleep. All I wanted was to finally get some rest. I was exhausted.

W

hen I snuck into their house I hadn't even considered Sammy. I just needed to get to Ann so I could quiet my mind. I just needed to rest. I was able to sleep a few hours on Ann and Sammy’s couch, a gun clutched to my chest. Ann got up to use the restroom, and I nearly called out to her, forgetting why I’d come here, I felt the gun nestled between my breasts, and then I remembered-I was here to silence that god dammed taunting.

A

nn’s body fit inside a large travel trunk rather nicely. Sammy, however, had to be cut into bits to fit into smaller pieces of luggage.

ho is the Lady in the Red shoes? The Red shoes that prance around the dance floor with elegance and grace. Long lengthy legs deliciously embraced by silk fishnet stockings makes everyone stop and wish they could touch. Who is the lady in the Red shoes? She is a divine object of desire, keen on fashion with the reality and knowledge about the importance of wearing Red shoes. Gone is the idea that “Red is just a color. Combined with any other color, red will always dominate. Although venturing into risky territory, red plays fair with other colors by allowing them to take their place in fashion and style, but reminds them to never mistake the fact that she is the one in charge.

he Popularity of red for daywear has inevitably brought such a hue into prominence. Fashion is changing with each passing day, not only with designer choices of silhouettes, but in the usage of colors, textile and pattern accents. Colors in fashion for example, have reached a level of importance especially when it comes down to the hue red. Known as a prominent shade on the color wheel containing a number of implications, is often seen as a hue that is typically carried by many womenswear brands as well in cosmetic lines. Why you may ask? Red is the color of pure authority and the utmost glamour. It is said that crimson hue is the color love tied with amplitude of passionate emotion and catches the eye of who seeks a venture of boundless adoration.

It has been said before that a woman wearing red could stop traffic and indeed it is the truth. At first glimpse red activates a fight-or-flight reaction that is stronger than any other color, which in return associates such boldness with traits of power, dominance and aggression.

Despite its bold implication of danger such a color emanates an expression of who you are-inside and out. Designer Coco Chanel once stated, “Fashion is not something that exist in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

According to an incident in 1914 with the Modern Railroad Semaphore, the choice of red, meaning the opposite of go, was primarily a better choice as it has meant “stop” and “danger” in a number of industrialized countries for quite some time.

The traffic stopping red dress is also seen often as a confident expression that is formed through a channel of non-verbal communication.

You may wonder, why it is in fashion a woman wearing red can stop traffic. It becomes from the fact that even person that is so-called “red-green color blind”, can easily differentiate both as red deliberately shouts out for most individuals as a color to stop.

Nowadays, where color is concerned, we wear what we choose and red reinforces a sense of pure confidence. Depending on your choice of clothing, shoes and accessories, a color, such as red, can easily empower or objectify a woman and stop traffic in the process.
