Naomi loses everything when her husband and sons die in a foreign land. She decides to return home to Israel, and tries to send her daughter-in-law Ruth home to her family, but Ruth insists on staying with her. They work together to survive as widows, and even though Naomi is too old for another husband, their plan leads to new life.

CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP We Gather in God’s Name ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

PRELUDE *CALL TO WORSHIP Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all the generations. (Psalm 90:1) You, O Lord, have been a dwelling place for us and our children. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2) You, O Lord, have been steadfast and faithful, even when we have not. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1) You, O Lord, have been our refuge and our strength! The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:7, 11) You, O Lord, are the eternal One and we have trusted you. *OPENING HYMN | Praise to the Lord, the Almighty 39 | Lobe Den Herren Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near; join me in glad adoration! Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigning bears thee on eagle’s wings, e’er in his keeping maintaining. God’s care enfolds all, whose true good he upholds. Hast thou not known his sustaining? Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee. Ponder anew what the Almighty can do, who with his love doth befriend thee. Praise to the Lord, who doth nourish thy life and restore thee, fitting thee well for the tasks that are ever before thee. Then to thy need God as a mother doth speed, spreading the wings of grace o’er thee. Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him! All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him. Let the amen sound from his people again; gladly forever adore him. *Please rise in body or spirit. 2

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (10:50) Hunter James Rule son of Laura and Joe Rule Now it is our joy to welcome our new brother in Christ. Through baptism you are incorporated by the Holy Spirit into God’s new creation and made to share in Christ’s royal priesthood. We are all one in Christ Jesus. With joy and thanksgiving, we welcome you as a new member of the family of Christ. SUNG RESPONSE Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way, wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! who from our mothers’ arms hath blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us, and keep us in his grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ills in this world in the next. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, the Son and him who reigns, with them in highest heaven the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
