September 9, 2018 9:30 a.m., Sanctuary Improving the problems in our lives start not with fixing our beliefs, but changing our behavior. Our actions form our character, which over time shapes our belief. While the conventional wisdom says that we believe then act accordingly, science is learning that we form beliefs out of our actions. We are what we love. Fixing the problems of our lives begins with re-ordering our desires from what the world calls “the good life to a life oriented around God.

Let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.
4 Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball, to him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all. To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all.
2 Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race, ye ransomed from the fall, hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all. Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.
5 Crown him, ye martyrs of your God, who from his altar call; extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown him Lord of all. Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown him Lord of all.
3 Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget the wormwood and the gall, go spread your trophies at his feet, and crown him Lord of all. Go spread your trophies at his feet, and crown him Lord of all.
6 O that with yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall! We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all. We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Please rise in body or spirit.

SPECIAL MUSIC | I Heard Him Once Taylor Davis, composer | Chancel Choir Ensemble I heard him once, the risen Christ, and as he did so long ago, to those who walked beside the sea, he turned and said, “Come follow me. Come follow me.” “But who am I?” I whispered back, and as he did so long ago, to those who sat upon a hill, he turned and said, “You are the light. You are the light!” I froze, unable to respond, and as he did so long ago, to one who sat beside a pool, he turned and said, “Is healing what you want?” And then, confronted by the One who knew my name and sensed my aimlessness, I drew a fitful breath. “Yes, Lord, make me whole, and I will come and follow you.”

New Worship Series | September 8/9-October 6/7 | “What do you want?” This question, not what you believe, is Jesus’ primary question to us. It isn’t our thoughts that drive our behavior, but our habits, which come from our desires. In other words, our desires define us. The solution is to order our desires, or as Jesus says, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” If we want to change for the better, we need to not simply believe better propositions, but learn to practice good habits. 4
