WHYI

GIVE FOR GOD November 11, 2018 9:30 a.m., Sanctuary We give because God is the source of every good thing in our lives. While we may begin giving for a variety of personal interests and needs, we eventually discover that through our belief in and journey with Jesus, we become members of his holy church and that in this holy community we are called to a duty and a responsibility to give.

PRELUDE | Great is Thy Faithfulness Sondra Tucker, arranger | Bells of St. Andrew | Lynn Hayes, conductor *CALL TO WORSHIP We come this day to worship the One who came to give himself fully for all. We come to connect, knowing that we are called to live in community with one another. We give thanks for this faith community that surrounds us. We come inspired to serve by the saints and by the women and men who have given their all for the cause of peace and justice. We come to offer ourselves fully in this place of worship and the world in which we live. Let us worship God! *OPENING HYMN | Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing 400 | Nettleton *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. SPECIAL MUSIC | Hymn of Promise Natalie Sleeth, composer | Alpha & Omega Combined Children’s Choirs Julie Prudhomme & Rachel Kortum, directors | Brenda Dillon, piano; Veronika Brzezinova, violin

OFFERTORY | My Eternal King Jane Marshall, composer | Chancel Choir My God, I love Thee; not because I hope for heav’n thereby, Nor yet because who love Thee not must die eternally. Thou, O my Jesus, Thou didst me upon the cross embrace; For me didst bear the nails, the nails and spear, and manifold disgrace. Why, then why, O blessed Jesus Christ, should I not love Thee well? Not for the hope of winning heav’n, or of escaping hell; Not with the hope of gaining aught, not seeking a reward; But as Thyself hast loved me, o ever-loving Lord! E’en so I love Thee, and will love, and in Thy praise will sing; Solely because Thou art my God, and my Eternal King.
