HONORING OUR GENERATION MUSTANGS
SPECIAL EDITION
MAGAZINE
Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

ANOTHER FOX SAVED FROM THE CRUSHER AND BACK ON THE ROAD.
MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!
Like many of the readers of this story, my story is probably similar to yours with a few twists. I enlisted in the USAF in 1991 and traveled the world a few times over the next 30 years. Over those years, I owned 11 Mustangs and by the time I finally retired in 2020, I had managed to hang on to a 05 Saleen and 12 GT500. I quickly got bored being retired and started flipping cars as a hobby, and would sell a few and keep a few including this little 79 Fox Cobra.
I had just sold my restored 65 Fairlane and the money was burning a hole in my pocket when I came across this gem. The Cobra was hard broke with no compression on #6, but in remarkable condition with no major cancer and was 100% original minus someone hacked the radio bezel. The little Mustang was left abandoned in 1996 and sat until 2022 when the property it sat on was sold and the new
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.
owners decided to have the title less car hauled off to the scrapyard where it was destined for the parts heap and crushed. Thankfully a friend convinced the yard to sell it to him, who in turn sold it to me.
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
Fast forward 10 months, countless hours, a complete tear down, a rebuilt 95 truck 302, rebuilt T5, new gas tank, paint, and damn near everything LMR, CJ, and American Muscle had to offer to restore this car was purchased and installed. It was a fun project and is a great running car and get looks everywhere it goes. If you ever see it around Branson, Missouri, make sure to wave and say hello. Another Fox saved from the crusher and back on the road.
Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

My 1978 Ford Mustang Cobra II... my first car ever. My parents bought her in the 90s for me to drive to school and back. The motor needed to be repaired but she was still a beautiful ride. She was a blast to drive in high school. I wasn’t popular but I was definitely “that kid with the white and red car”. My friends and I made many memories with her, from cruising the area to racing on the highways and even the down times. She was painted in 1994 right after high school but now she’s ready for a makeover. She’s a work in progress. She saw some car shows in the 90s, most notably three years at the Street Machine Nationals.
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. She’s been parked for a few years and taken apart for some much needed repairs. She got back on the road in 2022 for a return to Street Machine Nationals. We got some more work to do but she is fun to work on, great to drive and most definitely an eye catcher as these cars are just coming back into the car show scene. So many projects to do but you just can’t measure the fun they are.

IT DIDN’T TAKE ME LONG TO REALIZE THE 1969 AND 1970 MUSTANG FASTBACK WAS NO DOUBT THE CAR FOR ME.
My desire for muscle cars started as a kid watching my neighbors work on their cars. The ones that caught my attention were the Dodge Chargers, Pontiac Firebirds, Chevy Camaros, and Ford Mustangs.
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. I always thought my dream car was a Camaro but as I was growing up, it didn’t take long for me to realize the 1969 and 1970 Mustang Fastback was no doubt the car for me. I was so impressed when Ford brought back the Mustang and used the 69/70 design in the S197 platform that I went out a bought a 2010 Mustang GT. The 2010 was a great car, but my 1970 Mustang Fastback, aka “Brandi” will always be my passion!
Brandi was originally painted Yellow #3470-A. She is now Grabber Blue. The original 302 2V with a C4 trans is now a 460 Big Block with a C6 trans. She is also equipped with 235/60 tires riding on Magnum 500 alloy wheels.

I’VE BEEN BLESSED WITH IT...
My first car came when I graduated high school in 1973. It was a 1961 Mach 1 Mustang. It had 351W and was Maroon, and automatic, but it was totaled in early ‘82. Years later, I got the itch again for another Mustang. I searched the internet, locally and far. Sometimes too far. One Sunday night my best friend called and told me of a 1970 Mach 1 on Ebay. The car was in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I called the gentleman at S&S Automotive and we made arrangements to see the car. I was amazed to see the Mach 1 was the color I intended to paint whichever car I found. Candy Red, beautiful, we agreed on the price and away we went. Since I purchased the car, I have added all new chrome, interior console, fold down rear seat, power front disc brakes, rewired the engine compartment, all new suspen -

sion, changed the transmission from a FMX automatic to a factory correct Top Loader close ratio 4-speed. Also new Detroit Locker rear end with 3:55 gears, year correct Panasonic 8 track AM/FM stereo, and engine dress up. I later found out that the color is House of Color, Candy Brandy Wine. I have been blessed by the show wins, but the best compliments I have received about my Mustang came in March of 2022 at #PITS (Ponies in the Smokies), when the car was selected for the Elite 5 out of 1200 Mustangs. Then the following year, #PITS 2023 was asked to represent the 1970 year for the 60 years of Mustangs. I’ve been blessed with it, but still a work in progress.

The car has the original interior, original motor and original automatic transmission. It only has 68k miles. It has a 5.0 V8.
Franklin has has been shown at Carlisle Ford Nationals, Foxtoberfest, Ponies in the Smokies in the all years of the Mustang display, and recently was on display at the Mustang Owner’s Museum in Concord, NC.

My first Mustang was a 70 sportroof with a 302 when I was 17. I sold it in my early 20s and missed it so much I bought it back about a year later. At a loss, I might add. I daily drove it for about six years and fell on interesting times and sold it for next to nothing because it needed more work than I could afford. I regretted it, never lost interest in Mustangs, and owned four more since.
The lines on the 70 Sportroof have always been my favorite and I’ve always wanted another. Fast forward over 25 years and my obsession continued. I looked everyday online for

one. Everyday! They were always too rough, too pricey, or too far away to inspect, hear run, drive, etc.. Then I came across this one while at a car show in the mountains in Park City, UT. HE TOOK THE MACH 1 TO AUTOCROSSES AND WOULD EARN HIS STRIPES...
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.
Originally shipped to France, this 1972 Mach 1 was brought back to the States by the original owner. Looking through the Friday morning paper, Rex found this Mach 1 with Ram Air and fold down rear seat for sale and purchased it for a mere $1650!
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. The Mach 1 served as a daily driver for years, getting Rex to work in style. Rex started entering local and national Mustang and Shelby events from Connecticut to Atlanta. He took the Mach 1 to autocrosses and would earn his stripes (i.e. driving without an instructor) on a road course in West Virginia. By 1997, it was featured in several national magazines and newspapers and in 2003, it drove to Dear-
born, Michigan to attend the Ford 100th Anniversary celebration!
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
Today, the 351 Cleveland has been rebuilt with high performance in mind thanks to Laz at Mesa Balancing in Hialeah and Frank the Mustang guy at Ford of Kendall. With the more powerful engine, Rex is eager to take it on more adventures and high speed road courses. Since moving to south Florida, Rex has also displayed the Mach 1 at the Motorcar Cavalcade and the Fort Lauderdale Auto Show.

So some history on this Mustang... it’s a 302 Sportroof with a C4 auto. It’s all been rebuilt in the United States. It’s a California/New Mexico car and is pretty much rust free.
It gets driven every weekend and it is always a pleasure showing it off in my area. I love the sound, the looks, and most importantly, the drive!

The car is a 1979 Mustang Notch. It belonged to my dad. He acquired the car around 1984. After his death in 1993, the car set for years. Finally in 2015 it was signed over to me and I could title it. There was much work to do. The floors had rusted out and all the years of neglect were waiting for me.
The car to me is irreplaceable with all the memories of riding in the back seat as a kid, so I have been piecing it together over the years. I’m wanting to add AC in the near future. I built a 302 and the T5. Really there’s not one piece of this car I haven’t had my hands on. The work on it has been with every drop of blood, sweat, and tears that I have. I have learned a lot from doing all the repairs myself. I call it the “WORKHORSE.”
