MAGAZINE AUGUST 2024

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

SUMMIT POINT RACEWAY

Hello People! This month was a crazy month but a very fun month. We did our first annual STANG Magazine trip to Summit Point Raceway in good ole’ West Virginia for the SCCA Mid-Atlantic Racing Series. This was a wild trip but very cool weekend filled with booze, wild women, some hilarious dancing, and of course a trip to the local Casino and country bar.

Summit Point was really cool. Alan and his family had a campsite set up right in front of the track where they literally had front row seats to watch the race. Watching all the various classes race was interesting because you got to see the various cars ranging from small Miatas all the way to Mustangs and Porschs race all day. You could really see the different skill levels of the drivers from those who took it easy to those who are balls to the wall and are not afraid to slam their cars into a corner.

After watching the races, we got really hungry and decided to hit the town for some food and AC. Man was it a hot day! First, we went to the Charlestown Holy Casino. Well, that was a mistake. It was packed, ass to ass. A lot of ass grabbing going on and not

the good kind. There was a 40-minute wait for food at the sportsbar within the casino. We decided to wander the casino looking for beer, but since it was so packed, all the open bars were slammed with long lines. So, after wandering around boozeless, we said the hell with this. Next, we went to a local quaint restaurant out in the middle of West Virginia. Now this was a nice little spot called Benchwarmers. This place was down to earth with a rustic country feel. I got the meatloaf and mashed taters and gravy. OMG, was it delicious. Our waitress had mentioned that next door was a country dance bar! Now it’s all over, after we ate, we went next door. What a blast! It as a night filled with Long Islands, goofy dancing, and of course all the beautiful WV

women you could ask for! Needless to say, we tore this bar up.

I want to give a huge shout out to Alan Kinsey and his family for the warm welcome and for the good time. Alan and his Family have a family tradition of coming to this event every year for a weekend filled with many laughs, camping, and great memories. Should you ever be in the area during the SCCA Mid Atlantic Racing Series event at Summit Point, WV, stop by his family’s camp area, usually in front of the racetrack and give them a huge shout out! Until next time hooligans, stay safe and keep them tires spinning!

This is my 2020 Roush Stage 3, nicknamed Angelika.

This car was bought for me as a Mothers’ Day gift from my husband in 2021. This car is special to me because my husband owns one. His is the same color, but a 2013. I got Into Mustangs because my husband loved them. I didn’t know anything about them. My love for the Mustangs came from him.

Only modification that has been done is an X-pipe exhaust. It is perfect just the way it already is.

When the first Mustangs came out I was 11. For a while I had a used ‘68 California Special and later on a used ‘69 Mach 1. Years later a new 20th Anniversary GT350 coupe. Next up I wanted a new 2000 Cobra, but Ford suspended the builds. I ended up finding a used ‘98 Cobra late June 2000 for something cool to drive that summer during the Woodward Dream Cruise. At first I did not intend to keep it for long and was still also interested in finding a turnkey ‘69 Mach 1. The following weekend I met a local Mustang club and inquired about modifications. I did intend to do some modifications to my ‘98 Cobra but I never intended to carry it as far as I did or keep it as long as I have. I pretty much turned it into a garage queen and never took it out on wet roads. The undercarriage is in better condition than on the showroom floor. I painted parts that would rust and have kept the undercarriage detailed twice each year during our short 5 month car season. Come May of 2024 the odometer should read right around 34,500 or less.

ment the airbrushing colors. Silver metallic base, True Blue Pearl, and Kandy Purple Pearl fine splattering completed my vision. I also painted a grille horse to tie things together.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

Major modifications include SVO/Borla side exhausts, FRPP lowering springs 1.5”, chrome Cobra Rs 17x9, aluminum drive shaft and 4.10, BBK long tube, jet hot coated, H-Pipe s/s off-road, CDC sequentail tail lights, ASP u/d pulleys/balancer, K&N off road air filter, Pro 5.0 shifter, everything Ford deleted for ‘98 and 4 way headrests from ‘95, all the nice dress up parts to come out, and originator of the ‘03 Envoy Fog Lights modification!

I had the FRPP Cobra R hood underside glassed and then airbrushed as a remembrance of narrowly surviving an October ‘97 heart attack while on vacation in Colorado Springs, hence the purple mountains tribute. I designed my vision and watched as local airbrusher Greg Pennington brought it to beautiful life. The Cobra’s unique stripe design was the vision of JR Pennington and once more Greg created the inset snake with partial scales throughout. Wherever you stand both of the snakes eyes will be looking at you! The striping also has a True Blue Pearl overlay that sunlight angle will bring to life. Cobra lettering matches. In September of 2003, I disassembled a lot of Cobra outer engine parts, refinished smooth and painted with a scheme to comple-

My Bullitt was purchased in 2021. This is my second Mustang. I have always loved the look and appeal of Mustangs. I remember when I was a young child having an 1960s model plastic Mustang. My first Mustang was a 1987 LX Hatchback. I purchased it when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. I drove that car everywhere and was proud of it. Sadly it was totaled from a deer.

When I was looking to buy another car back in 2021 I really didn’t know what I was going to be getting other than I wanted a Mustang. I had never even heard of a “Bullitt”. So when I saw it, I was puzzled about it until I did some research on it. After that I had to have it. It only had 9,000 miles on it so it was still practically brand new. Initially, I couldn’t come to terms with the price and walked away from the deal. My wife almost totaled her car and due to supply chain issues the repair was being pushed into the

IT WAS TIME TO FIND ANOTHER PROJECT.

My love for Mustangs began back in the 60s when they were first introduced by Ford. Being as young as I was I knew there was no way for me to purchase one. Fast forward to 1972, after a Chevy work truck, I stumbled onto a 1963 Falcon Stationwagon. I didn’t put the two together until I started really getting into it. I discovered the the first Mustangs came off of the Falcon assembly line in Detroit.

My current find is a 1965 off the frame restoration. I have only owned it for about three weeks now, but plan on showing it in our local area of Enterprise, AL.

I purchased a 1965 Candy Apple Red one in 1976, and then a 1967 Light Green Fastback in 78. Unfortunately for me I received orders for Germany and had to sell before I departed. After a few more overseas and stateside assignments, plus raising a family, I finally stumbled on a 1969 Coupe. I had just gotten back from Korea and I told my wife it was time to find another project. The car was in horrible shape, but the young man who was selling it had the engine and transmission rebuild. Eight years later, she was taking home trophies. In 2015, I purchased a 1966 survivor. 45K original miles, unrestored matching numbers.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

My name is Tom Hughes from Shreveport, Louisiana. We purchased our Roush at a MCA national show in Overland Park, Kansas. I was showing a 2013 Boss 302 and a gentleman kept asking to buy it. I found out he was the sales manager at the Roush dealership in Selina, Kansas 180 miles away and had a few cars on display. My wife saw the Roush and fell in love. We all won that day. We have made no modifications to it.

I have been a fan of Mustangs for a long time and got my first one in 1996. I enjoy showing my rides and Ms Ruby draws a crowd wherever she goes. She has taken a 1st Place in her class the last four years at the World Of Wheels (ISCA) show. I

Growing up, my parents had girls so I was my dad’s son. We watched sports and westerns together and worked on cars together. Whenever my car would need repairs, he said, “Come on, let’s go work on it.“ Which essentially turned me into a motor head. I’m not even sure where or when I decided that a classic Mustang was the “it” car for me, but I know I was young. All my life I wanted a classic Mustang. But I got married and my husband and I had two children. A “car for fun” was a bit out of reach while raising our kids.

In 2015, my husband asked me, if you could have your classic Mustang, what things would you want it to have? I said, it had to be a 60s model, had to be a stick, had to be a convert-

ible, and red. He said, it’s not red, but what about this one and showed me a picture of Olive. I fell in love instantly! I thought she was the most beautiful thing ever. We went the next week to look at her, and shortly after, we brought her home. I have participated in two Hot Rod Magazine Power Tours in her (2017 & 2018). She never missed a beat and was reliable every time. I drive her as often as possible and as far as possible. In 2017, we joined the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City. The club which I am the current President of. I just smile and drive!

FORD AND SHELBY AUTOMOBILES, INC. AGREED TO PRODUCE 215 GRABBER ORANGE COUPES THAT HAVE THE GT-C DESIGNATION.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

The Southern California Ford Dealers requested a 2008 “California Edition” Shelby GT Mustang. Ford and Shelby Automobiles, Inc. agreed to produce 215 Grabber Orange coupes that have the GT-C designation.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. The 2008 Shelby GTs were based on the 2006 Hertz Shelby Mustang configuration. All of the 215 cars were delivered to Shelby Automobile assembly building in Las Vegas, NV to await their conversion. The visual upgrades were identical to the Shelby GT except for the GT-C door sill plates and Carroll Shelby signature.

I purchased the car in February 2008 and it has seen lots of car shows and meets. Many people fall in love with its striking color, its Carroll Shelby heritage, and its limited-edition credentials.

Modifications include billet cup holder trim, billet parking brake handle, billet map light accent, billet Shelby GT engine caps, billet strut tower bolt covers, and Red Line hood struts.

TORCHBEARER OF THE LEGACY...

RedTail is the centerpiece attraction for Detroit RedTail, Inc, a 501c3 non-profit (www.DetroitRedTail.org). The vehicle is custom wrapped to emulate the red-tailed P-51 Mustang fighter plane that was flown by the 332nd Fighter Group of the famed Tuskegee Airmen in World War 2. It is not considered a “tribute vehicle,” but more so a “mobile educational resource” by Detroit RedTail, Inc President and Docent/Driver of RedTail, Captain Eric L. Palmer. The motto of Detroit RedTail used to be “Rolling The Tuskegee Airmen Into The American Car Culture” because car shows, cruises and all other car culture events were where you could find them. But, now, after five years of involvement, they’ve changed their motto to simply “Torchbearer of The Legacy” because that’s what they’ve realized the mobile educational resource simply is... a torchbearer of the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. RedTail is not only a mobile educational resource, but simply a fun car to drive. From the stories he’s been told, he suspects the combat pilots of World War II enjoyed flying the P-51s as much as he enjoys “flying” RedTail.

On March 23rd, 2021, Spyro entered my life and changed it for the better. Spyro is a 320 HP 3.7 liter V6, with a six speed manual transission. Performance wise, Spyro is mostly stock. Spyro is perfect to us as is and no need for a change.

Mods include Renegade series upper grille LED DRL rings, MMD GT350 style chin spoiler, MP V-style rear spoiler in Matte Black, and 17 inch 5-spoke ESR alloy wheels.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

We are definitely a Ford family! We are on our 6th Mustang, from a 1968 Coupe to the 2019 S550. Before we bought our 19 we owned a 2008 Mustang Bullitt and had to let it go due to unfortunate events but my husband promised we would have another not knowing in time it was going to be a 2019 version. Not everyone gets a chance to be able to drive a dream car but my husband made that come true! The Bullitt is definitely our favorite.

Mods list includes only a few dress up items under the hood, wheel spacers, window louvers and tint.

Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

TO MAKE THINGS EVEN BETTER, I MET MY HUSBAND IN OUR LOCAL MUSTANG COMMUNITY.

My Mustang is not like any other Mustang. It’s a Mustang that defines who I am. It may not be the quickest Mustang on the road but it sure turns heads when I drive by. I grew up in a Mustang family. When I was a baby and when my parents couldn’t get me to sleep, they would take me for a ride around the block and I’d pass right out! So as I grew up, I worked hard and made sure that a Mustang was my first vehicle. So here I am. I’ve owned this Mustang for 10 years now.

To make things even better, I met my husband in our local Mustang community. At the time, he owned a 2017 Shelby GT350 and now owns a 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca. We recently got married (2022) and incorporated our Mustangs into our wedding. We love our cars and where we live. Our cars are known as his and hers because of the color combination of the two.

Mods include vinyl wrap on side, interior, hood, roof, rims, Raxiom tail light sequencer, MMD shorty antenna, GT500 axle back exhaust, MMD headlight splitters, SpeedForm GT/CS style spoiler, BMR adjustable panhard rod, side and front splitters, Modern Billet retro grille (top and bottom), Cervinia Ram air type IV hood, upgraded seats cloth to leather and door sills to black

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

instead of grey, Scarlet 20” rims - 285 30 20 and the 245 35 20, Evolution Performance drilled and slotted rotors and breaks, sub and Alpine amp, Airaid poweraid throttle body spacer, Air Lift Performance suspension, hydrodipping by Liquid Customs, Airaid MXP series cold air intake, convulated tubing under hood, SR Performance black strut tower brace, and 3.73 gears with SCT Tuner.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

This beautiful car was purchased in May 2021. I have always loved the Mustang and knew I would have a Shelby one day. Since buying the car, I have become the Asst State Director for Alabama. Doing this has opened me up to a whole new world of people. I love the passion of Shelby owners. Going to car shows is much more enjoyable when you have something nice to put on display for other people to enjoy.

I haven’t done any mods per say on this car as of yet. I have done some appearance changes to it. I have tried very hard to keep the Shelby look, while also making it my own. I believe as a car enthusiast, you should make your car stand out to a certain point. I just hope I haven’t passed that point. I hope everyone who views my car can enjoy it as much as I do. I don’t think I have parked it yet and not looked back at it as I walk away.

JUST THE TIP

SHE’S GOT HER HIGH BEAMS ON!

We recently had a car come in for inspection and failed due to fog lights. I know, sounds crazy. How can fog lights not pass an inspection?

In this case, the fog lights were aftermarket, so there was a hardwired switch to turn them on or off, but they were not wired into the vehicles main lighting system. The problem – it’s actually a Federal law that fog lights must

turn off when the high beams are activated. Most, but not all, Mustangs are equipped with fog lights. And from the factory, they turn off automatically when the high beam is turned on. Turn the high beam off, and the fog lights come back on. Fog lights are not substitute for your car’s high beams. It’s just an additional set of low beam lights that sit lower on the car (generally in the lower bumper cover) that provides additional road level lighting in harsh weather conditions.

It may sound like a minor thing, but it is Federally required for a vehicle in any state. If you are really bored sometime, or fighting insomnia some night and can’t sleep, look up CFR 393 (CFR is Code of Federal Regulations. Just an FYI) and have fun going down that rabbit hole. You’ll be sleeping like a baby in no time!

BTW, fog lights are being phased out. Vehicles from many luxury carmakers are no longer coming with fog lamps. These lights, which used to be housed low in the front bumper, are no longer considered necessary in new

cars. According to carmakers, headlamps of new cars feature technology that makes them a lot better than those found in older cars.

Not all Mustangs were equipped with fog light bezels and there were even years that only the GT versions had fog lights. Regardless of their use, many owners simply removed them because they never used them or wanted to change the cosmetic looks of their vehicles.

IN THE “HEADLIGHTS“

STANG MAGAZINE HAS PUBLISHED MILITARY TRIBUTE BOOKS CALLED TWISTED BOMBSHELL...

If you didn’t know and have not been following along with STANG Magazine in the past two years, you have really been missing out. Not only have we converted to a 501c3 nonprofit giving back to our car enthusiast community, the military, and law enforcement, but we have been launching new projects left and right. A few years back we launched Locked & Loaded Magazine which added more to our pages than just Mustangs. The following year we launched STANG Paranormal because we are crazy and like to go ghost hunting all across the country. Last year, we launched our newest project called “Twisted Bombshell”, focusing completely on our military and our military history.

While getting ready for an event at the Battleship New Jersey, we started to talk about having themed events and honoring our family members who served in the military. We started to research uniforms, family histories, and prized possessions that were passed down through the generations. To make a long story short, out of all of our research, our first Twisted Bombshell book was published and it was a tribute to the 2487th Quartermaster Truck Company (Aviation). They were part of the enormous invasion that landed in Normandy and helped to end World War II.

The best part of those months of endless nights and research... we were able to present the first printed copy to the ONLY surviving member of the 2487th Quartermaster Truck Company (Aviation). How cool is that?!?

Since then, STANG Magazine has published two other Twisted Bombshell books. The second was released and

presented to Richard Deverter who the book was about and who served with the 49th Armored Infantry Battalion. One of our STANG staff, Rob Villeaume, gave Mr. Deverter and his wife a copy of the Twisted Bombshell book and a Bronze Start that he was due to receive. Upon receiving his Bronze Star, Mr. Deverter took his last breathe and passed away peacefully with his wife and Rob by his side.

We are now working on Book 3 which is about one of our staff member’s grandathers. This book is about Horace D. Worley and the 7th Infantry Division who fought in the Pacific Campaign during World War II.

TWISTED BOMBSHELL

SALUTE TO OUR MILITARY

RICHARD LEE YUENGLING, SR.

UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE - 566TH BOMB SQUADRON

A TRUE AMERICAN HERO WHO SERVED HIS COUNTRY PROUDLY...

Richard Lee Yuengling, Sr. went overseas beginning Aug. 17, 1943 with his destination as Royal Air Force Station Hethel in Norfolk, England. There he found himself assigned to the 566th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group (Heavy), 2nd Bomb Division, 8th Air Force, as a waist gunner aboard the B-24.

On one mission Nov. 26, 1944, over Germany, now-Staff Sgt. Yuengling recorded the following in his combat diary: “Target, Misburg — 5 miles over Hanover. Synthetic Oil Plant. Visible target. Altitude 22,000 feet, temperature minus 43 degrees. No flak until over target, then light flak to moderate; very accurate. Front two ships [B-24s] exploded. Was never so scared in my life.” Despite flak and Luftwaffe fighters, Yuengling and his crew returned to base safely and continued working toward the magic number of 35 combat missions until he could rotate home.

Less than two weeks after the mission over Hanover, Yuengling received the first of an eventual four Air Medals for his combat

performance. During the Battle of the Bulge, he found himself in raids attacking German storage depots and communication centers. After completing 34 combat missions, Yuengling returned to the U.S. on April 13, 1945, and received his honorable discharge Oct. 26. Years later, on April 14, 1948, he received a fifth Air Medal, for his CAP coastal patrol service at Base 4.

Richard Lee Yuengling, Sr. was a true American hero who served his country proudly and eventually returned to Pennsylvania to continue with his family business, running and expanding the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
