MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2023 EDITOR’S CHOICE
MAGAZINE
Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ
As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.
Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.
From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!
FORT DELAWARE
Fort Delaware is one of my favorite adventures. Honestly as crazy as this sounds the best part of the trip is the boat trip to the fort.
They put you on a two-level boat, which the best part is on the second level. You can see all the open water of the Delaware River as the boat traverses the water and when you take the night tour, omg don’t even get me started. Seeing the night line against the Delaware River is a perfect scene of what heaven would look like.
Prior to us taking the journey to Fort Delaware across the river, we always stop at Crabby Dicks. This place is the go to restaurant for Delaware. I mean their house sauce is called Seaman Sauce. They have these amazing little crab balls and devil eggs with crab meat on top of it. It’s freaking amazing and prob the most delicious thing you will ever eat in Delaware. The alcohol buckets are perfect to devour right before heading over to the Haunted Fort Delaware.

The Fort itself, also named Pea Patch Island, is located in the Delaware River between Delaware and New Jersey. The Fort was completed around 1859, originally to protect the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia.
This special island also became a Union prison camp during the Civil War. Fort Delaware is estimated to have housed over 12,595 Confederate prisoners of war.
Now you know with this much history, the island is said to have been haunted by the soldiers of the Civil War. Now, is it? I haven’t seen anything but the hope to see something is there, which is why I keep going back.
take the Night Tour for a chance to see the other side! Until I’m dead folks, I will see you soon… maybe at Fort Delaware as a ghost tourist!

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS CAR AS SOON AS I SAW IT.
This is “Clay”. It’s a 2020 Mustang GT/CS. I’ve had the car for a year and a half and have always loved the Mustang and the mustang culture.
I fell in love with this car as soon as I saw it. Driving the car is like therapy for me. It has a tune, Roush CAI, 19 inch ESR wheels, and Corsa exhaust. I would love one day to install a Whipple supercharger.

Farrah originated in Long Island, NY where she was shown around the island. I purchased the car in 2016 from my friend Richie Fooze and had it transported down to Florida.

This is my 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra in Electric Green, #1652 of 4055. I call it the “Green Monster” in honor of Fenway Park’s wall since I’m from Boston. My plate is BOSTNG for Boston strong or Boston Mustang.
I don’t know when my passion for Mustangs began, but I’ve always loved Fords in general. As I grew older I found a love for the Mustang due to its amazing designs throughout the years and that deep tone in the exhaust. My first Mustang that I owned was a ‘02 GT, now this one, and some day I hope to own a classic Mach 1 and maybe a Shelby of course! I like to think I’m upgrading as my passion grows.
Mods include a 4.6 liter bored .030 (284 c.i.), 32 valve, 4 overhead cams, dyno tune to 650 RWHP with 540 lbs/ft. torque on 14 lbs. boost, Ford Racing FR500 heads, 60 lb/hr injectors, Vortech S-trim centrifugal supercharger

WE’RE BOTH EXCITED TO SEE WHERE THIS JOURNEY TAKES US!
I have LOVED Mustangs since 1987 when my friend took me on a joy ride in a Canyon Red Mustang GT with T-tops! It was the most brilliant ride I had ever been on! It would be a 30-year wait of driving the “dad-car” while providing for my family before I could “pull the trigger” on this beauty. Since we bought it, we’ve taken it on all kinds of trips, car shows, drag racing, and “spirited” driving events. We absolutely LOVE her!

I purchased this Mustang brand new in 2007. It was my third Mustang and immediately became my favorite. I’d just lost a child and this car gave me something to put my time and energy into. I spent hours and hours every week learning about the S197 platform, passing along that knowledge on Mustang forums, authoring how-to articles and videos, and meticulously picking the next modifications that would fit perfectly. Scarlett became a model for SilverHorse Racing, which afforded her a number of complementary parts as well. After a few years, life threw me some more changes, and sadly, I had to let Scarlett go.
Fast forward a few more years later, and the new owner happens to locate me on social media. We got to know each other and last year, Scarlett came home. The temporary owner saw my vision and continued with modifica -

I FINALLY DECIDED IT WAS TIME FOR A TRACK CAR AND BOUGHT A MUSTANG.
My dad worked for Ford for 30 years and I blame him for my love of Mustangs. My dream car was a 67 Fastback that I would rebuild with my dad. After years of searching we finally found one and started the project.
My brothers and dad attended a few track days and encouraged me to join them. However I was driving an F-250 at the time. I finally decided it was time for a track car and bought a Mustang. This was my first track car (my third Mustang). I run at MSR Houston with my whole family.

THIS CAR WAS A BARN FIND AND IT’S BEEN RESTORED TO ITS PRESENT CONDITION.
I bought my red 1973 Mustang Mach 1 last August. I owned a blue 1973 Mustang Mach 1 302 40 years ago. I had that car for three years and had to sell due to having a child and needed a bigger car. I’ve always dreamed of owning another 73 Mach 1. 40 years has come and gone and I found this red 73 Mach 1 only 12 miles away from my house.

My 73 Mach 1 keeps me young at heart. When I’m driving, it reminds me of my younger years and when people shout “COOL CAR”, video me driving, or give me thumbs up... it just solidifies my love for “The Mistress”.
This car was a barn find and it’s been restored to its present condition. It has a 351 Cleveland engine with a roller cam. It is a Q code with 36,000 miles. Compression is 11.0:1, HP: 300 hp @ 5,400 RPM, Torque 301 lb-ft @ 3,600 RPM, Carb: 4-Barrel Holley 650cfm double pumper, Tires: Front 215 70 r 14 and Rear 235 60r 15, American standard rims, Rear end 9 inch, gear 3:75, and MSD Ignition Coil Blaster II 45000-Volt.

The old saying, “a happy wife means a happy life!” sort of plays into the purchase of Venum, but with a little extra spin. In 2020 Matt purchased Venum, my 2014 Roush Stage 3 for me. In 2021, I purchased Vudew, a 2017 GT 350, which was on the May 2022 cover of STANG Magazine, for Matt. I guess you can say that “a happy wife, a happy husband, and two ponies in the garage equals a really happy home!”
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!
Venum is one of five that was built by Roush in the color scheme, Rapid Red with Black trim. As of 2023, Venum is one of two that remain in existence per Roush. Venum has a supercharged 302 c.i. Coyote motor which puts 575 hp and 505 tq. It sits on Nitto 555 G2 rubber with 305/35/20 in the rear and 295/45/20 in the front on SPD rims.
I really enjoy driving Venum, especially when I encounter a driver looking to challenge thinking I’m another bro behind the wheel. When I roll down the window so that they can see that it is a chick behind the wheel and not a bro, they typically nod and then back off which leaves me chuckling inside. Yet the best story, which I hope will provide some laughs, is when I was at a gas pump with Venum. A young man, who was driving an Ecoboost, was at another pump. The young man yells over to me and asks, “Is that your husband’s car?”, to which
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
I simply replied, “No!”. He then yells over and asks, “Does that car have more balls than mine?” Before I could reply, an elderly man, who was also pumping gas, says to the young man, “Son, that little lady’s car has more balls under the hood than you have in your pants!” The young man simply got in his car and drove away. All I could do was laugh.
Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

“JUST THE TIP
I GOT A WOODY!
In last month’s issue, we discussed some of the other ventures that Henry Ford was involved in, from aircraft to jeeps to support the war effort. We left that one with a little teaser, about Ford’s contribution to your backyard BBQs and we had some of our valued readers ask for a little more about this. So let’s continue with Kingsford Charcoal!
Henry Ford was having exceptional success with the Ford Model T, making one million cars a year by 1919. If you’ve ever seen a Ford Model T, you’ll notice that they used a lot of wood. Approximately 100 board feet per car – the wheel spokes, steering wheel, dashboard, and many other parts. So he needed a lot of wood. Rather than be at the mercy of outside suppliers, Ford contacted his cousin’s husband, Edward G. Kingsford, a Michigan real estate agent, to help him find and purchase woodland. He found

the perfect location in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Ford built a sawmill there to cut the wood for shipping to Detroit to manufacture the parts needed for his Model Ts.
As you can imagine, cutting and milling the wood for the cars left tons of left over waste in terms of stumps, branches and sawdust. Ford, a nature-lover, was also an early environmentalist and lived by the motto, “reduce, reuse, and recycle.” Ford found that he could use the scraps and sawdust, pressed into lumps held together by tar and cornstarch, as a quick and easy way to start cooking a fire. He named these lumps charcoal briquettes and built a
briquette manufacturing facility next door to the sawmill. He sold the briquettes in picnic packs and promoted the link between owning an automobile and experiencing the great outdoors.
While these briquettes were initially sold under the Ford brand, the division was purchased by a team of investors in 1951. The conglomerate renamed the briquettes Kingsford Charcoal in honor of Edward Kingsford. Today, Kingsford Charcoal is still made in America with more than one million tons of wood waste finding a new life as charcoal briquettes every year.
