Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

READING WORLD WAR II AIRSHOW

Welcome back STANG enthusiasts, as you all know around this time we usually do our Ford Nationals at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Well not this year. In honor of our Veterans, we took a detour to the Reading World War II Airshow. As you all know, STANG Magazine supports our Veterans, so what better way to honor them than to support one of America’s top World War II airshows. As mentioned in one of my previous articles, our beloved Mustang is based on the P51 Mustang of World War II. So off I went searching for this beauty.

This show was amazing. Everyone was dressed up in World War II uniforms and there were field tents, jeeps, tanks, and every aircraft you could think of. Literally it is like stepping back in time to the 1940s during the prep for the invasion of Normandy. I enjoyed looking at the various rifles and explosives they had on display. One of the coolest aspects of this was the World War II Airborne jump team. Watching them static line jump from a C-47 called Placid Lassie was cool. It was like a scene from those of World

War documentaries but better, since you are immersed into it and not just watching from a TV screen. These guys dressed in authentic World War II Army Airborne uniforms and gear and gave it their all, Bravo!

Now on to the planes! They had the world’s oldest B-24 Liberator from the CAF B-29/B-24 Squadron named Diamond Lil. Also present was the B-29 Superfortress called FIFI and the TMB Avenger, Doris Mae, which was the largest and heaviest carrier-based aircraft designed primarily as a torpedo bomber. Well after walking around and seeing all the cool planes, it finally happened! Bam, P51 Mustang named Red Nose. It was inspiring to see the legendary curves that inspired our

most beloved vehicle in person and damn what a sound on it. These planes are legendary in aiding the Allies overturning the tide of war into victory for the allies. It was awe inspiring to be in the presence of such history. The best part though, was watching all the World War II planes take off and fly. The sound of these engines is incredible. Loud, bassy, and the crackling of the propeller… damn!! It was like it was thundah! Seriously though, I wish my Mustang would sound like that… one day. A man can dream.

I have never been super into cars growing up or interested in driving for that matter, untill one day I sat in a wrecked Porsche at a local pick and pull. From that point on I was hooked and I was set on owning a Porsche. After a year or two of searching, I stumbled across some early S197s and did some research, watched some YouTube videos on them, and instantly fell in love forgetting about my previous desire to own a Porsche.

The first three Mustangs I looked at needed a lot of work and nothing really special about them caught my attention. That’s when I saw a 2005 4.0 painted Legend Lime, not a color I was super crazy about at first. I remember thinking “what an ugly green and I hope it’s not a beater like the others.“ Well, she turned out to be neither of those. Fast forward almost two years later and there’s not a car out there I’d trade her for.

With the help of my dad we’ve made her into a car I can be proud of regardless of engine size. After all, that’s what a real Mustang enthusiast is: it dosnt matter the imperfections or lack of cubic inches, what matters is the people you have met and the people who have helped you along the way.

It all started for me in 1981 when I was 16, when I bought my first 1970 Fastback. It had a 351 Cleveland with a four speed. After that I was hooked. Throughout the years I’ve had two 1970s Fastbacks, a 1969 Fastback, and a 1986 Foxbody. I got married in 1993 and had three kids and then went about 30 years without a Mustang.

AFTER OWNING SEVERAL FOX MUSTANGS AND A COUPLE SN95 MUSTANGS...

On April 11, 1990 this Ultra Blue and Titanium Mustang GT was purchased from Rasmussen’s Ford in Cherokee, Iowa. The original owner was passionate about his Fox. He saved every piece of documentation from the dealership including the dealer stock tag, warning tags explaining how to start a fuel injection vehicle, and the manual transmission reverse gear engagement procedure.

In 1992 in Massachusetts I had just wrecked my 1988 Mustang LX and purchased a 1990 Mustang GT almost identical to this 90. I sold the car in 1994 and regretted it.

After owning several Fox Mustangs and a couple of SN95 Mustangs, I wanted an Ultra Blue and Titanium Mustang

In 1996 the car was sent to a McGuire’s Detailing Center where the car was gone over in detail. The report goes into the detail of the paint condition and environment of the area it is in.

In 2014 the car was sold to a gentleman in Mount Airy, Maryland. When purchasing the Mustang, the new owner told me that the seller was more or less conducting an interview to see what his intentions were with the car. The new owner was interested in the car because it was identical to the 1990 Mustang he had back in school. The car became part of an extensive private car collection.

again. The plan was to do a Coyote swap and an IRS rearend and do some track events.

I saw an ad for this car, but it was too nice to modify so I passed on it. Seeing a number of Blue and Titanium Foxes on Facebook Marketplace and contacting several sellers only to be ignored, I kept going back to this car.

After going back and forth with a broker and being interviewed again to see what my intentions were for the car, we struck a deal and I purchased my Fox.

After getting it home and reviewing the files of documentation, the original owner had left his cassettes and a Mustang poster that he had passed onto the previous owner.

We have taken the car to a few shows including the Chocolate Fox show in Hershey and Harrisburg.

The show at the AACA Museum was very special to me. My father and I have been members of the AACA for years. We have donated to the museum and my father has a brick in front of the museum celebrating his National Senior win with his 1948 Buick.

Sadly he passed away in December 2021. Attending the show in May of 2022 was an emotional time when staring at his brick.

In October 2022 we showed this car at the Antique Automobile Club of America’s national event at Hershey where it took a First Place Junior Award.

This October the car will be competing for the AACA Senior Award.

My moniker, “Ruff Toyz” as well as my love for Mustangs was passed down by my late father, Troy Brown. Some of my fondest childhood memories were made tinkering with Mustangs in the original “Ruff Toyz Garage.” As a child, I couldn’t wait for him to pick me up in his 1988 Foxbody. I would stand outside well before his arrival just to hear him coming.

Although I’ve had the pleasure of owning a few, my current Mustang is a Magnetic Grey 2016 Mustang GT, also known as Maggie G. I’ve made a few upgrades such as Steeda adjustable shocks and struts, Steeda lowering springs, a JLT cold air intake with a Lund racing tune. In the future, I’d like to install a supercharger, Kooks headers, and an E85 flex tune.

I’ve been blessed to combine my appreciation for Mustangs with my passion for photography. I have traveled across the country to photograph for car enthusiasts such as myself and each session has been a rewarding experience. I’m humbled by the support I receive and I look forward to what the future holds both as a Mustang owner and a photographer.

METAMORPHOSIS - 2014 MUSTANG GT

THE MOST UNIQUE FEATURE OF THE CAR IS THE GLASS TOP...

I have owned my 2014 Mustang GT since it was new. The most unique feature of the car is the glass top, panoramic roof. Only 1,931 with the glass roof were produced for the 2014 model year per my Marti Report.

This car was featured in an issue of STANG Magazine in 2020 under the name Gray Ghost and has since been featured twice as Metamorphosis due to the tremendous changes inside, outside and underside. As you all know, the modifications never end.

Inside changes include a plethora of carbon fiber, a LED rear seat delete kit from CM Components, plus Premiere leather seats with cashmere accent stripes.

Outside changes include red stripes on the hood and rear deck lid along with various vinyls to draw your eye to the car. The wheels and tires are upgraded and now feature a staggered Niche Milan set up running Atturo high speed tires. The tail lights have been upgraded to Morimoto tri-bars.

Underside modifications inclued BBK ceramic headers, Pypes merged X pipe, deleted resonators, high flow cats, and Pypes axle back rear muffler deletes. I also added a one piece aluminum drive shaft from the Drive Shaft Shop.

In the engine bay you will find a Roush Stage 3 supercharger, carbon fiber dress up, and she has been tuned with a VMP Performance Stage 3 tune with enhanced acceleration thanks to a Speedform throttle body controller.

My Mustang The “Black Lion” has been my best and worst nightmare at times. Now my second owned Mustang, and has probably been the most fun out of all of them. My passion for the love of Mustangs actually started when I was in High School around 17 years old when I used to watch the drag racing show called “Pinks” where people from all over the country would race for slips and bragging rights.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

After graduating High school, I joined the Military and life changed for a while, but when I got the first opportunity in 2011, I ended up buying a Black 2010 GT with the 4.6 3 valve motor. When I saw the changes from my body style to the 2013-14 body I was sold. I eventually traded up for my current 2013 Mustang GT. I bought it exactly on December 30, 2013. I took it for a test drive and an hour later was done with the paperwork and out the door with the keys.

The car has come a long way since then, as it is now pushing over 700 horses. It’s supercharged with a built transmission, dual pump fuel system, full exhaust and a bunch of other go-fast goodies. Although it may have the power, the car is still a work in progress and far from done and I find myself constantly changing up something. I would be amiss if I said everything was perfect and there have not been headaches and lessons learned along the way, but that’s car life. To name a few, the car is on its second engine, second fuse block, third clutch and transmission.

My goals for the car have changed several times with life and the different setups, first was a High HP naturally aspirated build now the supercharger build, so I’m not sure what’s in store for it next. The car is fast but now I’m focused on how the car handles. While the Stang is no longer a daily driver, I now enjoy just cruising on the weekends with my family and catching a car show or tack day every now and then. I’ve had lots of fun over the years with both of my Mustangs, lots of time and energy put into each build, and I plan to one day pass along the Black Lion and my love and passion for Mustangs to my sons when they get of age.

I was 15 working hard, so hard to one day have money for my first car. I had been scoping out the classifieds, talking to friends, searching high and low for the car I was going to purchase. Then I saw it. The awesome late 80s Mustang with the loud Cobra engine that stole my heart. When I heard it was for sale I immediately came up with a plan to get it home to my driveway. Unfortunately, my parents weren’t too keen on the idea of a Mustang as my first car. I begged and pleaded for them to let me bring it home and still the answer was no, saying one day I’ll understand. I was so upset. Every day forward, every time I heard the rumble of the Mustang engine coming down the road, I knew one day I would have one.

Fast forward a few years, a couple kids later, a couple “Mom” cars later, I still longed to hold on to my dream of one day hearing the sound of that V8 rumbling in my driveway. I spent the last 20 years raising extraordinary humans. One left for the Marines and the other is starting a new life teaching and taking care of autistic children. I am so proud of who they have become and now it was time to start remembering who I was. I had a goal a long time ago of owning a car that would take me to amazing places and having fun doing it. Then it happened. One day my husband came to me and said, “I think we’re ready. Go place that order.” I was not only placing the order for my first brand new car, but for my dream car. I could not believe this was happening. As luck would have it, we were finally ready, then COVID-19 took over the country. Delay after delay happened with this order. I was started to

feel that maybe this just was not meant to be. I waited 25+ years for this car, but my patience was starting to wear out. Finally we got the call to take delivery and life has not been the same since. We have two rules with this car. One: It’s only going to be used for making memories and having fun. Two: I want to keep everything 100% original for as long as I am able. I am hoping one day I’ll be the one with that classic, garage-kept, 100% original beauty 50+ years down the road, filled with stories and memories to share with my kids and the generations to follow.

Venom is a Sonic Blue 2003 Mustang Cobra born 4/8/2003 and is number 6505 of the 8394 built for 2003. The car was originally modified at Alternative Auto in Michigan before I acquired it and has since spent some time at HPJ Performance in Illinois to get it to its current state. Some of the modifications include a 2.3L Whipple supercharger, manual valve body 4r70w transmission, Team Z suspension, 8.8 solid rear axle, Kooks longtube headers, and Bassani exhaust.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

I was born into a Ford family and have had a passion for cars for as long as I can remember. My dad took me to races and car shows growing up fueling my passion. My older brother had a 95 GT Convertible, a 91 GT Hatchback and a 96 Cobra Convertible which steered me to the Mustang hobby once I was able to afford it.

I graduated high school in 2003 and knew once I was able to, I would own a 2003 Cobra. I’ve owned several Mustangs and F150 Lightnings but Venom has been the only keeper. I’ve met many great friends from drag racing and going to car shows and look forward to continuing the hobby with my two sons.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!

HOLD UP. THAT’S WHAT KIND OF PLUG?

In several issues, we’ve discussed several topics that may have included disconnecting your battery. We’ve all had to do it, and we all know the consequences. The cars computer gets reset, all of your pre-programmed radio stations are gone, automatic seat settings, and everything else that you worked so hard to get setup is gone. And if you’re among the lucky ones that live in a state that

require emissions testing, the computer reset will stop it from going through the emissions test until it’s been through a complete drive cycle. Interestingly enough, through feedback from our valued readers, we’ve learned that most people do not know about a very cheap and simple device called a ‘Memory Saver’.

When your battery is hooked up, the computer is constantly powered even when the car is off and not running, and that’s what allows it to maintain it’s ‘memory’. Unplug

the battery, the computer loses power, and everything that it remembered is now gone. But when the battery is hooked up, there are other areas in the car that are also always powered. The two we care about is the OBD-II connector and the 12-volt port.

Just like the battery feeds the computer, the 12-volt port and OBD-II connector can feed the computer. It’s all one ‘hot’ system. So we can plug a 12 volt feed into either one of these ports and they will provide 12 volts to the computer even when the battery is disconnected.

These are very simple systems that you can get online or any auto parts store for under $30. Once you plug into one of these ports, the adapter will need to be attached to some sort of 12 volt power source, such as a spare battery, a jump box, jumper cables going to another car, etc...

But once you plug one of these in, you can disconnect your battery completely, do what you have to do, hook the battery back up, and the car will be as if the battery was never disconnected at all.

I’m Shane, the owner of SNS and my journey into detailing started in 1993. I got a job sanding and polishing cars on the side for friends and family. I never thought it would be more than just that. A few years later, I quit my job and moved on to working as a Corrections Officer when the bug hit me again to do more detailing. This time it quickly grew into

doing lots of cars for everyone, not just friends and family. I knew it was time to make it real so an LLC was created. SNS sold car care products and did detailing. After a few years of doing that, I went to several trainings for ceramic coatings. All the best brands of ceramic required you to attend training for their specific coating.
