MILITARY TRIBUTE FREEDOM ISSUE MAGAZINE SPECIAL EDITION HONORING OUR MILITARY AROUND THE WORLD
MAGAZINE
Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

My Mustang is called Gremlin. In January 2019 the engine blew, throwing double rods through the block. The motor was subsequently rebuilt by Joshua Minson and Shane Holt at Redtide Motorsports and completed a month after I retired from the United States Air Force in Feb 2019, after 26+ years as an MSgt in the USAF Security Police/ Security Forces career field. I began my military career as a Law Enforcement Specialist assigned to Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, AZ. I would go on to serve in locations in Central America, the Middle East, and numerous stateside locations.
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!
The new engine sports the original heads and cams, was stroked out to 5.0, added BBK unequal length headers, and upgraded internal components. The Roush 2.3L TVS Phase 2 Supercharger was put onto the new motor. The original VMP tuning was tweaked by Don Faldowski at Horsepower Unlimited in Clearfield, Utah, and brought a dyno-confirmed horsepower of 616hp and 618 ft-lbs of torque. The new engine picked up 56hp and a whopping 108 ft-lbs torque. An upgraded Mcleod Street Extreme Clutch was added to help the transmission handle the power. The Roush short throw shifter was replaced with an MGW unit, with a custom-made shift knob courtesy of Nifty Shifters.
Gremlin next had her original black leather removed and the entire interior was redone in black and orange leather with orange stitching done by Jake Abeyta at A’s Upholstery in Syracuse, UT. Matching center console pieces painted in Grabber Orange came from American Muscle.
Handling was stiffened up with a Shelby rear shock brace added to the trunk. The car sports its original factory paint and graphics. Ghost flame accents have been added to the side and hood scoops.
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.
Gremlin has seen significant success on the car show scene during my ownership of it for the last five years. She recently picked up a 3rd Place Award at her first Salt Lake Autorama on March 4th, 2023.
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
Showing this car and driving her as much as I can have become a passion of mine during the warmer months and have allowed me an outlet to pursue since my retirement from the military. This helps me balance the chaos of my continued work in the law enforcement profession as a Sergeant with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office in Farmington, UT.

This Mustang belongs to my wife Mary Castro who has been a military supporter all her life. When we met I was Active Duty Air Force (Security Forces) and we soon learned our love for the Service and cars went hand-in-hand. Our son, Brice, also joined the Air Force and is still active in his duties today. Both of our fathers are Army Veterans and I have two siblings who also joined the Air Force and Army.
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. After I Honorably Separated from Service, we eventually drove classic cars together for the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction when they came to Las Vegas. Mary expressed that Mustangs were her favorite so in 2012 I helped her purchase her very first brand new Mustang. She has since made it a tribute Mustang, even obtaining personalized plates that say “AFSTANG” as she proudly displays her love of the Air Force with her vehicle.
Mods include Borla ATAK axleback exhaust, BBK cold air intake, custom Purple pin stripe, Air Force badges, and custom hand-crafted battery cover.

I JUST WANTED TO THANK ALL OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED AND PAID THE PRICE OF OUR FREEDOM.
MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!
I bought the car June 2020. At the time, I told my wife “the car is perfect and I don’t need to do anything to it” lol. Let’s just say it didn’t take long for me to start customizing it. By December of 2020 I installed the Air Lift Performance on it. Then it was wheels, exhaust, tune, hood, etc, you know how it is when the custom bug bites you.
Last year I had a pretty radical wrap on my car that received a bunch of attention wherever I went. I thought how awesome would it be to get this attention for the honor of the men and women of the branches of the military. Although I have never served for our military, I support and honor all who have. My father Jim is a retired Navy Seabee during Vietnam. My father-in-law Ed also served in Vietnam on the front lines in the Army.
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.
So last November I removed the wrap and started designing how I wanted the car to look in 2023. I knew I wanted the base of the car to have the colors of our flag, the good ole Red, White, and Blue. So once I had that portion done I started with the subtle touches of honoring the military. I consulted with my buddy Nick who is an Army Veteran. I didn’t want to be disrespectful in any way, so I asked his opinion to proceed with the design. I just want to thank all the men and women who served and paid the price of our freedom.
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

Max and Robin Olmos had no idea that at a Christmas party their friends would make an offer that they could not refuse. It was the opportunity to buy a 1970 Mach 1. The price was right and before they knew it, they fell in love with the pictures of her. When they saw the car in person, they could not wait to take her home. When she arrived at her new home, she became number four in the Olmos collection of Mustangs.
Todd and Robin were the friends that Max and Robin Olmos purchased the Mustang from. They all met on the 2014 Pony Drive to Las Vegas. The 1970 Mustang Mach 1 dubbed “Madam Blue” was actually purchased at a Mecum Auto Auction during that trip by Todd and Robin. Robin was the one who raised her paddle without knowing really why, but in the end Madam Blue has found a new home.
Max and Robin Olmos have made some modifications to Madam Blue. First, they replaced the original instrument cluster that was not working correctly. They added Dakota digital gauges with the back lighting matching the Grabber Blue on the outside. With the original instrument cluster broken, it is unknown how many miles the original 351 Cleveland 4V M code engine has. The 351 has aged well and it still shakes with that old school muscle car sound. The 300 hp still gives it the power to put you back in your seat. Madam Blue’s 351 Cleveland is connected to a T-5 five speed transmission, giving this Mach 1 eighteen miles to the gallon. It originally had a FMX automatic transmis -

sion and was later converted to a manual top loader four speed. The Hurst shifter gives you something to hang on to as the clutch connects the engine to the wheels
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
Madam Blue gives a flashback to the older generations of Mustangs and anyone who looks at her smiles. Some can even remember driving one. Newer generations of Mustang fans sit in her and you can instantly see the joy in their faces. They get to see the difference between Classic and a new generation and enjoy the history of the Mustang. This just adds to Max and Robin sharing their love of Mustangs and cars.

In 1966, I enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard at the 136th Combat Evac Hospital Unit in Parkville, MD. In 1967 I was sent to Ft. Jackson, SC for my 8 weeks of Basic Training. Immediately after graduation I was on a plane headed to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas for 10 weeks of Combat Medical Training. In 1968 our unit was activated to duty to support other Guard Units during the Martin Luther King riots in Baltimore City. We conducted physicals for Guardsmen at our armory and went into the city to conduct physicals and treat fellow Guardsmen where they were stationed. Over the years our Guard Unit was activated and called upon to provide support for rioting at the University of Maryland and other state emergencies. My normal enlistment was 6 years where I left the Guard with an Honorable Discharge in 1972. I left as a Staff Sergeant having graduated from the NCO Academy. In 1975, I reenlisted to go to the OCS Program for one year at

the Towson Armory as there was an opening at my old unit for a 2nd LT. Prior to our 2nd summer camp and graduating as a 2nd LT I was informed that due to a reorganization of the Maryland National Guard my old unit was being merged with another unit and there were no openings for a 2nd LT. My only option if I graduated and received a Commission would have been being assigned to the 175th Infantry Unit. Since I was trained as a Combat Medic and not for the Infantry I declined to receive my Commission. I served as a staff officer for the NCO Academy and then received my 2nd Honorable Discharge from the National Guard.

As a senior citizen, now 76 years old, I purchased my 2006 Mustang GT Premium in November 2013 at age 66. Being a senior citizen I was not interested in adding many performance items to my car. I concentrated on making the car look sportier inside and out and making it more comfortable to drive. That being said I have made a number of upgrades to the car inside and out.
Mods include 18” Mustang GT wheels from a 2010 Mustang GT, custom red suede door panels to replace the cheap vinyl black door panels that were constantly peeling off, Bullitt mufflers, MSD coil packs, Billet chrome interior dress up items for control knobs and automatic gear shift, special graphics package that breaks up the all Torch Red exterior, chrome GT door sills that replaced the cheap plastic door sills that

came with the car, upgraded disc brakes and rotors, upgraded Monroe struts and shocks and new tie tods to tighten up the suspension. Also added are two new headlights with halos, a new Sony radio with Sirius XM and chrome tail light accents from American Muscle. My 2006 Mustang GT Premium is my dream car. I’ve had other Mustangs over the years including a 1966 6 cylinder automatic, a 1980 4 cylinder 4 speed stick, and a 2002 Mustang V6 auto.

This is my first GT and first performance Mustang. It has a comfortable leather interior and awesome power. Being retired I drive a lot less, about 3,650 miles a year. The car currently has 184,000 miles. It had 147,500 miles when I bought it in 2013. The car was in poor condition cosmetically when I bought it from a local dealer. I completely detailed the car inside and out, brought the paint back to life and restored the dry leather interior. The motor was a grimy mess but I was able to clean it up and bring it back to show car condition. I have won many awards at local car shows including the Mustang Club of Maryland Car Show in Ocean City twice and three times with the Red Mustang Registry at Carlisle, PA. I have served as Treasurer of the Mustang Club of Maryland for 5 years and have been their Historian since 2008. Half of my wardrobe is Mustang related the other half military related.
Today this is my daily driver and car show car. It is not garaged and sits in my driveway in all kinds of weather. I work on it constantly to maintain it’s show car condition and it gets lots of attention wherever I go!

When I was 18, I joined the Coast Guard in February 2001 and was sent to Hawaii to be stationed on a 378’ Coast Guard cutter named “Rush”. While aboard the Rush we traveled the Pacific as far north as the Bering Sea and south as Ecuador looking for illegal activity along the way and there was plenty of it. Drug running, illegal fishing, training with the Navy, and rescue missions were a regular thing and it was an incredible experience. I was able to take part in nautical ceremonies such as the Golden Dragon and Golden Shellback for crossing the date line and both the date and equator at the same time. In 2004, I was transferred to a small boat rescue station in Chicago, IL where I served as Boatswain’s Mate 3rd and 2nd Class. While in Chicago, I was a part of a law enforcement boarding team and took charge during rescue missions and patrols. One of my favorite things was being a part of the Color Guard and going out to major sporting events for the National Anthem. I grew up at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO and being on

the water and boats was a big part of my childhood so being on the water was a natural fit. Joining the Coast Guard looked like an exciting way to serve my country just like my grandfathers did and hopefully my son too. The seven years I spent in the USCG were some of the best years of my life and I would do it all over again.
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
I’ve always had a passion for muscle cars and being a part of the car enthusiast community. I had various muscle cars when younger but in early 2020, I wanted a muscle car that still had that raw muscle car sound/feel and something that I didn’t see at every car meet. I was able to go for a test drive in a 2012 Mustang GT and I said to the owner, “Punch it!” and that’s when I fell in love. It also was a 6 speed and I didn’t even know how to drive it! I was determined to learn so that one day I could teach my kids to drive one too. This car was amazing and didn’t even compare to my old GTO or Vette! I had to have it. My son Zach, who was 4 at the time, also fell in love with the car. It became our father/son project the first time I took him out in it. The majority of the mods I have on my car were installed by my son and I. God forbid I do anything to the car without him as he sees it as his car and he just lets me drive it since I’m bigger. Our 2012 GT has been nothing but a joy to own and puts a smile on both our faces anytime we can take it out for a cruise and or meet up with some friends. We love to cruise and my son says we don’t have to tell momma how fast we went!

This is “Solid Gold”, a 2010 Mustang GT purchased October 2014 from COPART Phoenix. It was wrecked/totaled with both front and rear body damage. 75% of the restoration was completed by myself (rear frame straightening and some paint by others) and I had it retitled Rebuilt From Salvage in Colorado in May of 2018.
This Mustang is essentially all OEM Ford (almost no mods) except for the hood scoop, decals/graphics, and chrome engine brace. This Mustang won the 2018 Award of Excellence at the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

As an Air Force Civil Engineer from 1976 – 1992, I always relished taking desolate plots of land and building wonderful facilities on them from which people work, live, and play. Restoring wrecked vehicles is somewhat like that. Taking a wrecked or salvaged vehicle and turning it into a usable, functional vehicle, which still can be enjoyed, is also very rewarding.

SHARING A PASSION WITH YOUR KIDS IS AN ABSOLUTE BLESSING.
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.
Sharing a passion with your kids is an absolute blessing. Sharing two passions makes me an incredibly proud parent who has been blessed with two incredible kids.
Our first passion is to our country and the U.S. Navy. I was on active duty when both of my kids were born and they grew up in a Navy family. They endured the sacrifices, the long deployments, and all the challenges of being in a military family. They both joined Navy ROTC in high school and were very successful for all four years. Both of my boys joined the Navy shortly after graduating and are still on active duty today. I retired in 2009, but both of my boys continue to “Stand the Watch.”
Our second passion is with our Mustangs. There is no better feeling as a dad than to look in my rearview mirror and see my boys cruising the mountain roads right behind me. Even with them being stationed in different states, we’ve managed to cruise the Tail of the Dragon and even The Snake up near Bristol, Tennessee. We’re all constantly wondering “what to do next” with our cars and mods are slowly coming along. But, most importantly, all of our cars are DRIVEN! We all drive and enjoy our cars every chance we get. Don’t be fooled if you see them spotless. These are all our daily drivers and we drive the wheels off of them! I own the 2019 Mustang GT nicknamed “Famin”, my son Taylor owns the 2021 Mustang GT nicknamed “Sirius Black”, and my other son Brandon owns the 2022 Mustang GT nicknamed “Cap” (Captain America). We are all hoping to meet at PITS 2024 and share our passion with other Mustang lovers.
The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!
Members of the STANG Mag family are more passionate about fun and inclusion than they are their cars and that says a lot! I can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2022!
In the meantime, sleep well tonight because my boys have the watch.

I FEEL TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE WITNESSED TRUE HEROES IN ACTION...
ToPDoGG 1000 is a highly modified, 2011 (by vin only) WideBody Shelby 1000. Taking the 1200 hp specs provided by Shelby for the creation of the 1000 and elaborated upon. From the sleeved aluminum block with billet crank and interiors, to the dual inline transmission(s) with 3’ driveshaft connected to a Moser M9 it transfers the power to Modulare Wheels wrapped in Michelin super cup 345s. Elaborated cooling systems relocated to the trunk along with the Kenne Bell Mamoth super charger, this WideBody puts a new meaning to pucker power!
Taking the Shelby WideBody to new imaginations, we tucked the rocker panels in much deeper and provided more detail in the rear exatention while mimicking this to the front with
If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!
I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

True carbon fiber covers more than 50% of the exterior topped off with LeadFoot Grey paint with an added color shift making this car stand out differently through the day, with some hidden art work under the hood by Jesse James.

My Mustang passion stems from a life of loving fast cars that look as good as they sound. The Mustang is such the perfect car to make your own because they all can look so custom and fit to one’s self or cause, sparking all kinds of conversation, computation, and camaraderie. This is especially true in the military. I’m honored to be a small part of our military serving as a Private Militarty Contractor (PMC). I spent the majority of my time embedded with the Marines and true heroes! I was able to train with and share my knowledge regarding multiple facets of mission execution, readiness, capabilities, and eminent domain sustainability under fire. I feel truly blessed to have witnessed true heroes in action and to have helped in their successes has been my honor and privilege!

I have been a Mustang enthusiast since my father bought me my first Mustang, a 1990 GT, when I was 17 years old. I have owned several others, a 1988 GT, 2002 GT, 2007 GT, 2008 GT500, and now a 2020 GT500.
I’m a U.S. Army Veteran, having served 9 years as a Military Policeman. I served on deployments to Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and two tours in Iraq. After separating from active duty, I have continued to serve as a federal civilian.
