MAGAZINE

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

LAKE ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA

Erie, Pennsylvania is one of those areas that is quite Erie, if you get what I mean and I think you do! We had our annual bbq cookout with loads of booze and jello shots. Of course, we had our henchmen cook all the meat for us, and well damn it was knocked out of the park. Total jello shots were estimated at 300 cups. This was all hosted by the lovely Joanie and Pete with the assistance of Nikki and Fluffy. Huge shout out to them.

Saturday was my mission to explore the Erie bar scene. Now I was ready for a smashed party but unfortunately Erie was not ready for me. The night was quite dead but I won’t let that stop me from having a good time. First trip was to Sullivan’s bar. Sullivan’s has been open since 1905, making it America’s seventh oldest Irish Bar. It was old and reeked of musk, but it had a very special charm. Old wooden décor and I mean the hand carved shit, the good stuff. As I sat alone in the bar, it was honestly sublime. Just chilling taking in the years of service this place must have had. If only the walls could talk. I am not religious by any means, but they had some cool ass statues placed all over the bar and I guess a pope

statue in the middle of the bar watching you drink. Next stop was Voodoo Brewing Company. Here I had a purple Passion Fruit Mojito and it was literally to die for. It was like the gates of heaven opened up for once and let just a hint of light come down and bliss my drink for a delightful moment. By now I was getting hungry and Voodoo Brewing Company was no longer making tacos as the kitchen was closed. This led me to my next discovery Room 33 Speakeasy. This was a Speakeasy based off of the 1920s-1930s speakeasy. The coolest part was the entrance of the speakeasy looked like a thrift book shop but behind the book case was a badass old school speakeasy. They were playing Frank Sinatra. This place was one of the best parts of the trip. I had the French 75 cocktail which was Tanqueray Gin, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup and

Champagne. Wow this was smooth. The next drink was a modified old fashioned called the Good Fella Cocktail, which consisted of Bulleit Bourbon, St. Germain, Amarena Cherries, Orange, Bitters, and Ginger Ale. Let me tell you something, this drink kicked my ass. Holy shit was it good. For food I had succulent Korean BBQ meatballs and juicy chicken wings. The food was amazing and a perfect way to end the night.

Well, that was my time in Erie, PA. To anyone in the area, I highly recommend checking out these spots. Enjoy a piece of American history while doing the most American thing, drink in a Pub and Speakeasy! Until next time folks, stay safe and enjoy the ride, maybe one day our paths may cross and we will be sitting next to each other at a speakeasy doing what we do best, living it up.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

September 11, 2001 is a day we all knew where we were that morning. That day four planes were hijacked. First, Flight 11 from Boston hits the North Tower. Second, 9:03 AM Flight 175 from Boston hits the South Tower. Third, 9:37 AM Flight 77 from Dulles crashes into the Pentagon. Fourth, at 10:02 AM Flight 93 crashes in Shanksville, PA. It’s a day America will never forget! We lost 2,996 people including 19 hijackers.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

The three of us wanted to build something special for our heroes that died that day. So the 9/11 Tribute was born. I wanted something I loved to built this tribute. Pony power! I love my Mustang so I purchased this 2006 Mustang GT and we took it apart and started to design the tribute. Many hours of looking at pictures from that day took a toll on our artist for it brought back that day each time they looked at a picture. The car was designed in the best way

possible to honor those we lost, especially the 343 Firefighters. This build took one year to airbrush. Its first trip was to the Flight 93 Memorial on September 10, 2021. On that day, we were escorted by the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department all the way to the crash site.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

STANG Magazine has given us the best opportunity to show you this tribute and we can’t thank them enough. We put “Never Forget” on the tribute. The car has 53 stars on the front, with 3 underneath the front bumper for the car is blessed with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. It may not have been modified by power, but it’s been the greatest honor to build this for those heroes we lost and for the families to always know... “We will NEVER forget!”

SO

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

My son who is pictured with his three builds turned me into a Mustang fan when I purchased him one for his 16th birthday. He has built Mustangs for himself, his friend Chip, and now with me, his good old dad.

Seeing his passion and enjoyment with trips to Carlisle for Ford Nationals and Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach made me want to purchase one so we could do these shows together and give us something else to bond over. So we went out and found this one and decided we would build it together.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. I’ve always liked nice rides and while I never had a muscle car growing up, I can remember admiring and being jealous of my friends with beautiful cars. Mustangs always had a particular allure. I began dreaming of buying a used GT and fixing it up, customizing it into something special. Reality set in and while I’m very handy with tools, my lack of automobile mechanical knowledge would undoubtedly result in me spending too much time and money, and ultimately paying someone else to fix my mistakes and finish the project. In an effort of avoiding those stressors (and preserve my marriage), I switched gears and looked for something that was already a little special. That’s when I found my 2008 Vista Blue Roush 427R supercharged “BEAST.” Outside of a few cosmetic additions and changing out to a (Roush-recommended) Steeda cold-air-intake, the car is as built by Roush.

After eight months of truly enjoying BEAST and getting involved in the local Mustang community, I was hooked. I

made a road-trip to Kentucky where I purchased my 2019 Magnetic Metallic Roush Stage 3, “RED BLOOD” (named for the Roush graphic package – “Red Blooded American”). I’ve added some cosmetic accessories to make him all mine, the Roush Phase 2 upgrade increasing the horsepower to 750, and replaced the resonator with a Roush X-pipe.

These beautiful cars have added a new dimension to my life and provided me with the opportunity to meet so many awesome people with a number of organizations like Frederick Mustangs, Mustang Club of Maryland, Roush Road Crew, and New Market Cars & Coffee. I’ve even been able to personally meet Jack Roush Sr., Jack Roush Jr., and Jack Roush III, who have all signed my cars.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

Growing up I was always fascinated by muscle cars. I’ve always loved the look of them and the sound they make was like music to my ears. I always wanted a car that stood out; something that I could be proud of. I purchased my Mustang GT in 2006 brand new from the dealer. I came across an ad they were running for July 4th and knew that I had to go see it. The minute I saw it I knew she was going home with me. In the beginning with the exception of a few cosmetic modifications I kept the car stock. This changed once I started going to car shows and talking to a lot of different people who shared the same passion and I started realizing all the things that I wanted to do to my car. Shortly after getting around to car shows I joined a car club which inspired me to do even more to my car and along the way met some amazing people

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

My car is my passion and the little kid in me still gets excited when I turn it on and hear that exhaust rumble. Some of my performance mods include a Roush TVS 2300 supercharger kit, Brenspeed cams, Kooks long tube headers, Roush extreme exhaust and a Wilwood big break package. My cosmetic mods include Foose 18’ staggered wheels, APR Performance caron fiber splitter, side and rear skirts, and hydrocarbon dipped engine accents.

It all started when I decided to trade in my 2017 Silverado for the 2020 GT with 19 miles on it. First time Mustang owner and it quickly snowballed from there... from all the modifications to meeting all the great people within the Mustang community and going to all the Ford inspired shows. I was born and raised in a Chevy loving family. I ended up going against that and creating my own path. Needless to say, make your dreams a reality and go after it whatever it may be. Create your own image. Stand out from the crowd. Having a Mustang I quickly noticed it’s hard to be different because literally everything has been done to these cars that you could possibly think of. The wrap was designed by me playing around on a video game called Need for Speed Heat. I ended up loving it so much I had to bring it to life. I’m beyond happy with this car especially on curvy mountain roads. This car has lead me on a wonderful journey and has brought many great people into my life. My passion for Mustangs started at an early age, when I saw and fell in love with the 1970 Yellow Boss 302. I knew then, this was my dream car.

Life happens, I went to college, got married, built a house, had kids, got a dog, you know the list goes on and on. I never bought a Mustang because it never seemed to be the right time.

Well, life happened again in 2020 and my stepdad passed away unexpectedly. My mom knew I would never put myself first, especially to buy a car that wasn’t a daily driver. So when she was financially sound, she told my husband to find me one. They surprised me with an early 50th birthday present.

For the last two years, I have enjoyed hearing the roar, maybe going a little fast, and seeing heads turn when

people hear the car coming down the road. It has been an awesome experience. Being car enthusiast, my husband and I like going to car shows. Although winning a trophy here and there is fun, I really enjoy seeing the smiles and reactions of the young children when they see my car’s theme. My hope is that I can spark the interest of the youth, so that one day, they might own their dream car.

I have always loved cars, bikes, and trucks as a kid and growing up. I remember when the Terminator Cobras first came out. I had to have one. It just took longer than expected. I have had multiple Mustangs in the past, a 2004 Mustang GT built with a Vortech T Trim, a 2003 Mach 1 with Procharger, but something always had me wanting to sell until I got the Terminator Cobra. It has always been a dream of mine to build a turbo Cobra and I bought the car from a police officer in Lincoln Park, MI. The car had a 2.9L Whipple, some injectors, and KBAP. Made a decent 630 RWHP. Not planning to really mod it for a while until one day a buddy drove the car on the freeway and downshifted into second gear instead of fourth and over revved the car. Fast forward a few weeks driving the car doing a pull down the freeway it finally let loose. Lifted a piston ring hurting the motor pretty bad. The car was down for a couple months as I tried to find someone to dive into it. After being turned away by multiple shops, I got in touch with

I have always had a passion for cars especially bigger horsepower ones. I also own a supercharged ute which is a great toy but that’s all it is, a toy as it’s fun but you can’t take the family cruising.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. And when I first saw the new Mustang I was impressed. As I was always a fan of the older Mustangs and thought to myself these would be a good thing. Then once I started seeing horsepower figures that people were making out of their Mustangs, I thought to myself I have to have one. So for my 40th birthday I spoiled myself and the build started.

The car is soon to be tuned on E85 and then I look forward to doing some racing with it. This is were the Mustangs shine. You can go racing Saturday night and then load the family in and go cruising Sunday.

WE JUMP STARTED IT, DROVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK, AND BOUGHT IT RIGHT THEN AND THERE.

This is my 1985 Ford Mustang LX. Originally bought for my oldest son to drive at 16, this car quickly became a nice project for us. When we purchased it, it was sitting next to a shed with the dash mostly out because it needed a heater core. We jump started it, drove it around the block, and bought it right then and there. It was blue with no spoiler and a blue interior.

Over the years it has seen two restyles, including an emerald green/silver combination and its current color scheme of green/black. She now has a grey/black interior, new instru-

This car has been a fun daily and now sees quite a few car shows. We are looking forward to future mods including a V8 upgrade down the road. You couldn’t ask for a better running car for the price. It goes great with our other Foxbody and the rest of the collection.

As a big Mustang fan and a huge fan of Carroll Shelby after several cool car builds, I decided to pull the trigger on what is dubbed to be the ultimate Mustang!

I have been a gearhead ever since I can remember and love this decision! Age is catching up with me but not too much else will when I am done with this car’s upgrades!

It is an honor to be in this magazine with all the beautiful Mustangs that it has displayed throughout the years! I live, eat, and breathe Mustang and that trend will continue until my last breath!

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

MY WIFE AND I SPENT THE NEXT SEVEN YEARS BUILDING THE CAR...

My brother-in-law bought the Mustang brand new off the dealer lot in Hagerstown, MD. He drove our grandmother from Maryland to Texas to see family, making fantastic time after telling her to “hang on”, garaged it every Winter, and then sold it to my father-in-law when he started a family.

My father-in-law daily drove it for many years and hauled his mower in the back. It was parked under a hemlock tree where a squirrel made a huge nest under the intake and the cowls filled with needles. He noted a “miss” and we found the fuel injection wiring loom had been chewed thru. It was fixed and it ran great again.

In loving memory of my late father, Terry Bradshaw, this article is a heartfelt tribute to the man whose passion for Mustangs was as immense as mine. As his birthday approaches this month, I find myself reminiscing about the bond we shared through our shared love for these iconic cars. My dad’s love affair with Mustangs began with his first car, a stunning cherry-red 1965 Mustang. He cherished it dearly and took care of it as if it were his prized possession. But life had other plans for him, as he bravely answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He had to part ways with his beloved Mustang, leaving behind a piece of his heart. Tragically, my father never got the chance to meet “Orange Jewlious,” my own Mustang, which I acquired three months after his passing. Complications from the exposure to Agent Orange during the war took him away from us, leaving a void that can never be filled. However, before I got my hands on “Orange Jewlious,” we often spoke about her with great excitement and anticipation. It was as if he was that young kid again, reliving the memories of his own cherished Mustang. Every time I take “Orange Jewlious” out for a drive, I can feel my dad’s presence, guiding me on the road ahead. It’s

as if he’s right there beside me, sharing in the joy and thrill of the ride. The wind in my hair and the purring engine seem to echo his laughter and enthusiasm. I am grateful for the memories we shared and the conversations about Mustangs we had, as they keep his spirit alive in my heart. His passion for these cars and his love for me have become intertwined, creating a beautiful legacy that I will carry with me always. As I celebrate his birthday this month, I can’t help but reflect on the profound impact he had on my life. He taught me more than just a love for Mustangs; he taught me about perseverance, courage, and the importance of following my dreams. In the loving memory of Terry Bradshaw, a loving father, and a devoted Mustang enthusiast, who lived his life with zeal and enthusiasm until his final days in 2020. His legacy lives on in the rumble of Mustangs and the fond memories we hold dear. May his spirit continue to ride alongside us on every journey we take, forever remembered and forever cherished. Happy birthday, Dad.

This is my 1988 Mustang GT. This car has been in my family for a long time. I am the third member of my family to own her. My late uncle, Harold George, purchased this car sometime in the early 90s. It was originally a bright red car. He would drive it through the summer and park/cover it all winter.

Shortly before his passing in Aug 2003, he gave the car to my mom, Pat. My mom put it in her garage for years, driving it very little as arthritis made it difficult for her to drive a stick shift. I was given the car after her passing in Aug 2015.

Since then, this car has been to many car shows over the years. It gets driven on occasion, mostly to a show or cruise in. It has been to many local events as well as Street Machine Nationals. We are hoping to get some touch up paint work done later this year. Already this year it has gotten new brakes, tie rod ends and tires. It has been a great addition to our collection and we plan to enjoy it for years to come.

I AM A PROUD MEMBER OF PROJEKT CARS...

I have named my build Projekt BiFrost which this is the 2nd year I have recreated it. Now I am calling it Projekt BiFrost 2.0. A little about me... I am married to an amazing woman. She is a great mother to our children, my number 1 supporter, and she is a certified personal trainer. We have five boys and a girl. I also have a twin brother. I am a Wrap Specialist/Graphic Designer by trade. I love to spend time with the family and when we can, we all go to shows. I also love to shoot photos and videos in my spare time. A couple of other things I like to do is Art (drawing, painting, digital and physical) and work on the car (adding things when I can).

Since I was a kid, I have always had a love for anything automotive, especially Mustangs. I remember thinking to myself “One day I will own one”. Well years go by and I bought my first one from a tow yard in California. It was so cool. It was a 1986 Mustang GT with the 5.0 HO motor. I was living large. Little did I know the transmission was just about to give out on me. I was bummed and heartbroken. I had to sell it because I didn’t have the means to fix it at the time. I miss that car. I have had many cars since then and this is by far my favorite. I am very fortunate to have a wife who supports me in everything I do. We made a trip to get the car from a dealership about two hours away, drove it home, and almost immediately had a cold air intake, performance radiator, performance oil cooler, and overflow tank for it from Mishimoto.

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

Then it was the exhaust, suspension, front end swap, body kit, wheels, wrap, and the first year of SEMA for me in 2021. Then last year I did some more upgrades Like the Pro charger, lights, new wheels, under glows, upgraded the brakes to the Brembo 6 pistons, drilled and slotted rotors, and a couple of other small things, and changed the wrap again and back to SEMA for round two in 2022.

The wrap on my car is supposed to represent the BiFrost. Norse mythology from Marvel comics. The BiFrost is essentially a rainbow bridge that connects Asgard to Midgard. I chose to do the green and purple sides to show a little of what that might be like. One side of the car is mainly green

The roof has the BiFrost ruins or burn printed into the wrap. The whole wrap was designed, printed, and installed by me at Impact Signs in Sedalia. The wrap is a 3M Silver Base wrap that is printable and laminated with gloss laminate. I have been doing wraps since 2009 and I have been designing since 2004. I am also a proud member of Projekt Cars, an aftermarket marketing and product placement group aimed to connect products and people to promote, market, and impress through custom automobiles.

Glenna Murphy has always had a deep passion for cars, especially Mustangs. From a young age, she was captivated by their sleek design and powerful engines. Growing up, she would spend hours poring over car magazines and dreaming of the day she would own her own Mustang. In December 2019, Glenna’s dream became a reality when she purchased a 2019 GT350 Shelby Mustang. Being a devoted Tony Stewart fan, she lovingly named her new ride “Smoke.”

Glenna fell head over heels in love with her Shelby Mustang from the moment she got behind the wheel. The raw performance and thunderous sound of the engine were nothing short of exhilarating. She was so enamored with her car that she decided not to make any modifications, believing that it was perfect just the way it was. At 70 years old, Glenna shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, the

Mustang bug has bitten her harder than ever before. Currently, she is channeling her passion into giving her other Mustang, a classic ‘70 Mach 1, a complete restoration. Glenna’s love for cars and her unyielding spirit are a testament to the timeless allure of Mustangs and the joy they bring to enthusiasts of all ages.

THIS WAS THE CAR THAT STARTED MY PASSION FOR THE MUSTANG.

This is my 1978 Cobra II. It was my very first car. My parents bought it for me around 1990 when I was just 15 years old. I have owned it ever since. This was the car that started my passion for the Mustang. It was my daily driver for years. It has been painted twice and had the motor overhauled a few times. It was in several car shows back in the 90s and has been in reader’s ride sections of a couple of magazines.

After my third son was born, it was parked due to brake and fuel issues. About 10 years ago, I decided it was time to put it back on the road and after several years and a lot of work it is back on the road. It returned to Street Machine Nationals in 2022. I hope to continue fixing the minor issues it has and keep it for a long time to come.

Mods include rear air shocks, new rear bumper, and chrome dress up kit.

PASSION NEVER SLEEPS.

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

Being a Mustang owner for many years, when I caught wind of the arrival of the S550, I started buying mods before I bought the car! Once the latest generation of the Ford Mustang was announced, I had a vision of building my dream car on this awesome new platform. One day while browsing ideas on YouTube for the new project, I ran across a video that Ferrada Wheels had released of a bagged 16 Mustang on their new FR1s. From that moment things started moving quickly! I contacted Ferrada and got the specific offset of the wheels used in the video and they were ordered that day. Within a week I found a used 2016 GT/PP with 1500 miles on it and the build was on! The first stage was an Airlift Performance system and the new Ferradas. Within two weeks came the 2.9 liter, stage 2 Whipple supercharger, one piece aluminum driveshaft from The Driveshaft Shop, and Ford Racing half shafts rated to 1400hp. With some fuel system upgrades and 14psi boost, it made a little over 750rwhp on the dyno. The already awesome braking system has been assisted with Baer Eradispeed rotors on the front and rear. Huge weight savings!

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. On the outside I wanted to keep it simple and classy. There wasn’t much available back in the beginning, so things were added as they were available. I started a great relationship with Liquivinyl Aerodynamics and have used their products to create the look I wanted. Great people and a great sponsor! The rear diffuser came from Flowdesignes Australia. Lots of carbon fiber bits from Trufiber and Anderson Composites. Under the hood boasts much of the same bling!

Now that the Crowdkiller has moved from the terribly restricted Pacific Northwest, to Southeast Texas, power increases

THIS JOY AND PASSION HE HAD TOWARDS THESE CARS RUBBED OFF ON ME...

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

All my life I have been a lover of Mustangs. My dad has had many throughout my lifetime and he definitely is the person who started my love for these cars. One of his all time favorite cars he owned was a 1967 Mustang Fastback with the white paint and blue stripes. He loved that thing so much and was heartbroken when he had to sell it. Fast forward a few years later he picked up several Foxbodys and even a New Edge too when they came out. He always loved the big V8 growl that the Mustangs had and he would drive around with a big smile on his face every time he got behind the wheel of one. This joy and passion he had towards these cars rubbed off on me, and so I have always tried to photograph Mustangs whenever I get the chance. Actually, my first ever professional photoshoot I ever did was with a 2012 Mustang GT. And since then I’ve had the chance to shoot with quite a few amazing Stangs.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. One of my favorite shoots I’ve ever had the luck of doing was with a 1967 Shelby GT500 “Eleanor”. This photoshoot was unreal for a few reasons, it was with one of my all-time favorite cars, but it was the first time I got to photograph a car on a private air strip. With amazing winter weather and jets flying overhead, the pictures I took easily have become some of my most favorite shots I have ever taken. And I am so glad that I can say that my favorite photos are of a car that means so much to me. Especially since my father passed away three years ago, I try to keep the passion that he imbued in me alive, and try to drive and photograph a Mustang whenever I get the chance.

“JUST THE TIP

SUCK, SQUEEZE, BANG, BLOW

While I know many of our valued readers are true gear heads, we also have a huge audience that drives a Mustang just because they’re awesome cars! So we thought we’d take a step back and just go over the basics of an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine that powers our Ponies is a 4-stroke engine. Meaning that there are 4 strokes, or phases, that each cylinder goes through in order to function. Those 4 strokes are

the Suck, Squeeze, Bang and Blow. So, let’s take a look at what each one does.

Suck – This is your intake stroke. The piston is being pulled down the cylinder which creates a vacuum. During this stroke, the intake valve on the cylinder head is open, and the vacuum that is created pulls air through the air intake while being mixed with fuel from the fuel injectors. This fills the cylinder with an air/fuel mixture. At the end of this stroke, the intake valve will close.

© 2023 STANG MAGAZINE

Squeeze – This is your compression stroke. At this point, the Intake valve has closed, and the piston moves up to compress the air/fuel mixture into the cylinder head compression chamber. We’ve talked in the past. Higher compression just means we’re squeezing more air and fuel into a smaller area. Which means more bang!

Bang – This is your power stroke. When the piston is at its highest point in the cylinder, and the air/fuel mixture is compressed, the spark plug fires, and ignites it all in a glorious explosion. This forces the piston back down the cylinder, rotating the crank, which is what is turning your

transmission and making the car move.

Blow – This is your exhaust stroke. Once the bang has sent the piston to the bottom of the cylinder, the air/fuel mixture is burnt up. Nothing left to burn so it becomes exhaust. At this point, the exhaust valve on the cylinder head will open, and as the piston travels back up the cylinder, it pushes the exhaust gas out of the cylinder, and out through the exhaust pipes. As it’s going through the end of this stroke, the exhaust valve will close and the Intake valve will open, getting ready for another suck (Intake).
