MAGAZINE 2022AUGUST

MAGAZINE

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

LAKE ERIE CRUISE AND SHOW Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club of Erie Pennsylvania (LEMOC) was gracious enough to host STANG Magazine for their car show this year. Man was it a blast! I had arrived earlier than the rest of the STANG Crew, so I missed the STANG stampede from Harrisburg to Erie, Pennsylvania. I heard from the stampede that it was a beautiful drive. Lots of country scenery and beautiful forestry for a relaxing cruise. Since I had arrived early into town, I was able to explore the town and all the badass stuff that was there. One thing that was a warm welcome to Erie, is that the people of Erie are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. The first thing I did was check out the local witchcraft store Cauldron & Thorne. The place was amazing with lots of cool stuff, a perfect place for a Halloween and Horror lover as myself. The owners

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff. Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and out casts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other. From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

of the place were extremely friendly and were also car enthusiasts. I showed off my Mustang and the owner was gracious enough to show me his twin turbo Mercedes AMG and Winnebago, which were beasts and pretty badass rides. I asked about cool spooky spots locally to check out, and the owner recommended Erie Cemetery, which contains a vampire crypt. If you know me then you know as soon as he said vampire crypt, I hauled ass straight to the cemetery. Local legend is that a vampire was buried inside the crypt and it was sealed off to prevent the vampire from escaping. The moss-covered crypt only has a V engraved on it with no other markings. Once I got to Erie Cemetery, I was greeted by beautiful tombstones and crypts Onceeverywhere.Ifound the vampire crypt, it was pretty cool. It is located on the side of a hill, just standing by itself. Upon closer look, there were numerous scratches on the metal door of the crypt entrance. Was it the

vampires’ ghouls trying to get the vampire out? Who knows but it definitely adds to the legend. Now the odd part was, when I visited the other crypts, some crypts had an outside door covering an inner door. As I walked up to the vampire crypt, it was silent until I got right up to the outer door where I could hear flies just buzzing around and not like 1 or 2, we are talking about a whole posse of them in the two-foot space between the outer door and inner door. The odd part was there was no reason for them to be there, no trash or food, and all of the crypts were well Afterwards, maintained.we attended the BBQ which Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club hosted. They were very welcoming and the food was amazing. There were freshly made hamburgers, various sides, and of course my favorite deserts. Oh man, the cookies and cake were phenomenal. We sat and hung out all afternoon just talking about our love for Mustangs and shooting the shit. After the BBQ, we went to

Rum Runners for dinner and drinks, which was next to the lake and checked out the Bicentennial Tower which was lit up with different colors at night. The next day at the car show was fun. There were a lot of classic Mustangs and new Mustangs as well. The people at the car show were very friendly and welcoming. The show was a blast and several of our members won awards at the car show. At the end of the car show, members of Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club all lined up at the exit of the show and cheered all the Mustangs on as they were leaving the show. It was a sight to behold and I am truly humbled to be witness to this tradition. I highly recommended that anyone in the area to check out the Lake Erie Owners Mustang Club car show. The best part of all, the show benefits Veterans and the local community. I want to give a huge shout out to Dan Taino and Nicole Harcourt, who made this happen and giving us a place to enjoy a fun filled weekend. Thank you so much guys!

IT IS ALWAYS FUN WHEN I POP THE HOOD AND HEAR PEOPLES’ FIRST WORDS. IT’S USUALLY “WOW”, “OMG”, OR “DAMN!” When I was a very young child, my mom had a white 64 ½ Mustang. It had personalized plates of her name “ANNA’S” so I guess it runs in the family because I had decided when I turned 50 last August, I was going to buy myself a 5.0 Mustang. However right before pulling the trigger on a gorgeous low miles silver with white stripes 2019 GT, I found Hoof N’ that had just been listed near my home town. It was love at first sight. I know she’s a 4.6, but a 10 in my eyes. The original owners had kept her in tip top shape. They did some tasteful mods and when she wasn’t in a car show, she was covered up in their garage. As I approached her one Sunday morning last year, admiring her rear end, I knew I was going to buy her and I did right there on the Beingspot.1of only 609 427Rs built in 2010, she is a rare find. At car shows and meets she is the only Roush in the crowd most of the time. I have joined a few Mustang clubs, bought lots of swag, and have really enjoyed keeping her legacy of cleanliness and show ing her off at events. Not to mention the sound of her cold starts is amazing and she really screams when

ABBY ADKINS MUSTANG GT IT IS PRETTY INSANE... THE FRIENDSHIPS YOU MAKE, THE PLACES YOU TRAVEL TO, THE THINGS YOU GET TO SEE, THE MEMORIES YOU MAKE, AND TO SAY IT ALL BEGAN WITH JUST A CAR. Meet Nighthawk, a 2016 Mustang GT. It is lowered and modified with Raceland coilovers, steel rear shock mounts, Phoenix electronic radio, Steeda light clutch spring, Trufiber hood, GT 350 front bumper, Ford GT wheels, Mac stainless exhaust with Steeda H pipe, AEM cold air intake, Roush axle back exhaust, MP Concepts rear and side window louvers, MP Concepts side scoops with honeycomb inserts, GT 500 style track pack rear spoiler, fully wrapped and chrome and carbon fiber pieces to tie the whole car together, and a new engine installed at 40k miles. It is pretty insane... the friendships you make, the places you travel to, the things you get to see, the memories you make, and to say it all began with just a car. This car was at my local Ford dealership and it only had one owner. After seeing ads for the car pop up constantly, I knew I had to have it. After getting off of work one evening, I traveled an hour to go purchase it. I bought this beauty in January of 2021. At a young age, I was always into cars. After being behind the wheel of this machine, I honestly don’t think I’d ever be able to find another car to replace the feeling it gives me. My dream car has always been a Mustang. I’m proud of mine and my husband’s hard work that has gone into the car along with thousands of dollars customizing it the way we want, making it a one of a kind. I would have never dreamed of owning my dream build in my 20s. As many of you car lovers know, you are never really done modifying. I have more things in mind for Nighthawk.

THE YOUNGER CROWD LOVES THE CAR AND THAT’S WHO WE ARE TRYING TO ATTRACT TO THE HOBBY. I have been a car guy my entire life and in 1990, we bought our first Mustang. It was a Foxbody 7-Up car. In 2016, I decided I wanted new technology so I sold my 1940 Ford Street Rod and the 1990 7-Up. I bought the 2016 Mustang GT loaded with every option. Then we proceeded to make it our own. The first thing we did was add tuxedo black stripes with lime green pin stripes around them. As a side note: there is no tape on this car. All paint, except the front bumper, is PPF. Joe at Jerry’s House of Color, was not a fan of traditional striping so we decided on the black stripes with the lime green. But, I’m an old school guy and I wanted pin stripes so we put them on the rear of the car. Then I decided we needed to break up the yellow, so I went to Aerografix and had Chris add pin striping to the entire car. Chris also did all the airbrushing under the hood and trunk. The car is now six years old and I try to add something every year. This year, I put on a carbon fiber grille, spoiler, and side skirts. There are also other modifications I did over six years. As an old school car guy, I had to have deep dish wheels added on the rear. I love driving the car with all its high tech. We enjoy going to car shows and cruise ins but some of the owners of old cars don’t think we should be there. This is my interpretation of a hot rod in a 2016 Mustang. The younger crowd loves the car and that’s who we are trying to attract to the hobby.

ALWAYS SAID, “THESE CARS ARE MEANT TO BE DRIVEN, SO ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF ALL OF IT –NOT JUST THE LOOK OF IT WHEN IT IS ALL CLEAN.” This is Scarlet, a 2008 Shelby GT 500. I have owned the car since 2010 and it started off with full inten tions to basically stay stock, but as you know, once the modification bug took its first bite, it kept biting. This car is driven as much as possible and as Carroll always said, “These cars are meant to be driven, so enjoy the hell out of all of it - not just the look of it when it is all clean.” These are great words to live by. Scarlet leaves the stable much more in the colder months being that I’m in the HVAC trade and that is our Super Bowl season. She loves the cold air quite a bit, however it is set up to be reliable on a 95 degree day in heavy traffic. She has 28k on the odometer and is never put on a trailer. My wife Sheila and I have more fun driving it to events like Carlisle Ford Nationals in PA and Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach, SC. Yes she gets dirty but nothing that some soap and water can’t handle. It’s all about the experience and we enjoy it from behind the wheel. As of now the next mod will be an upgraded blower with a new fuel system. The car will stay a true six speed with no intentions going to an automatic. She is currently equipped with a McCleod RXT twin disc to be sure that any future power can be handled, JLT 128 mm big air carbon fiber cold air intake, MGW

I grew up in a Chevy dominate household but I always loved the Fox Body Mustangs. I was able to purchase a 1986 GT in High School. That was the one car I loved more than any other. Until the S550 chassis came out in 2015. There wasn’t a day that I hoped I could own a Mustang again. In 2019, all the stars aligned and I was able to get a deal on a brand new left over 2018 Mustang GT. This started a build I always had dreamed of. The original plan was to supercharge the car and take the drag strip route. All it took was one trip to the Hocking Hills here in Ohio and realized the cornering abilities of the car. I decided to do a complete suspension setup for cornering and full NA build. My wife and I love to take trips to the hills for spirited driving. We have been to the Tail of the Dragon, The Triple Nickel, and various backroads around Ohio. I hope to eventually do some autocross events in the near future.

ELEANOR 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION WHEN GONE IN 60 SECONDS CAME OUT, I WANTED CAR #47 ON THE LIST, A 1967 MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 CALLED ELEANOR. WE ALL KNOW THAT CAR’S VALUE. As a young kid growing up, my dad was a Chevy fan and had a 1968 Camaro. When I was 20, I had a friend selling a convertible Mustang and I didn’t know this would change my life. I purchased a 1991 Ford Mustang GT Convertible and have been a true Mustang fan ever since. This Mustang went through a lot of stages. I had a group of friends that would help me every step, from cleaning to changing parts, to going out rollin. It went to a lot of shows and won some awards. After the second motor, upgrading each time, a 300 shot of nitrous blew the motor and the transformation happened. I switched to a bored Windsor motor with twin turbo, going to be a full caged, fully modified car. Well at that stage it became a project that just never got finished. My wife never saw the car run and it was moved to three different houses on a flat bed. I ended up selling a decade worth of work. When Gone in 60 seconds came out, I wanted car #47 on the list, a 1967 Mustang Shelby GT 500 called Eleanor. We all know that car’s value. Years later, owning different Foxbodys, I found the second best thing. We purchased our 2007 Mustang Eleanor eight years ago. We drove 3 1/2 hours to get her. When we purchased the car, it had the Eleanor kit, American Racing Anniversary rims, and the Kenne Bell supercharger. We have done a lot to the car since the purchase and take it to local car shows every weekend. We had Brenspeed do all the motor work, with a fresh tune. We changed all of the lighting outside the car and re-amped the trunk to support the Air Ride system that my wife and I put on in a weekend. We also changed some of the interior, did exhaust work, and cleaned up the engine bay. Just moving all those wires and doing all those simple things to make it your own. We do travel with the car to Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for the Ford Nationals. We have built a

There is a great group of guys in Pennsylvania that we enjoy seeing every year at the Ford Nationals. For us, going to these shows it not about winning, but it’s about hearing the stories and seeing the time and effort that everyone puts into their cars. We are not ones that sit by the car at shows. We are always on the move and enjoy seeing all the great cars and meeting new people. Any time we are out and about, my wife and I always pay attention to any mustang that we pass. And yes, Gone in 60 seconds is still my favorite movie. Half of the herd took the traditional “Ride or Die” approach and drove from Pennsylvania to Florida (meeting head on with a monsoon), while the other half took the “Party Train” approach and loaded up our steeds on the Auto Train (departing from Virginia and getting off near Orlando which is only about a 40 min drive to Daytona). Let’s just say the Auto Train did not disappoint and we were the life of the train in more ways than one! From the first day until the last, the staff of Mustangs At Daytona had a week packed full of the kind of stuff we love - cruising, breweries, night life, and of course the Daytona Track Day sponsored by yours truly. Side note - I have never seen so many people in my life waiting in the hot ass Florida heat dying to get that STANG Mag Daytona Willy Wonka event ticket. It was a sight of true die hard STANG fans and Mustang fanatics. We saw those Willy Wonkas hanging proudly on Mustangs at almost every event all week long and it brought smiles ear to ear. Aside from the amazing activities the week had a nice balance effect of free time so we could actually enjoy a vacation and see the sights and do some cool stuff not on the agenda. We had plenty of time to explore, chill out on the beach, watch a rocket launch at sunset, tour a historic lighthouse, cruise up and down the Florida coast for an impromptu photo shoot, go parasailing, feed

Mix in there some beach BBQs, Mimosas and Bumbu for breakfast every morning, following a Cherry Red Classic Mustang through the swampy jungle backwoods of Florida, and watching storms and sunsets dancing in the brightest of colors all week long, we had the perfect trip and have all agreed we will be back next year to bring more of the STANG crew.

The staff at Mustangs At Daytona set up a Meet and Greet at Saints and Sinners Destination Dayto na, hosted the Kick-Off Party at Ormond Brewery, provided a Breakfast Meet at Gary Yeoman’s Ford with a cruise that followed to Ford Garage (with escort by the Florida State Police), set up an 80s Nightlight Glow Meet at a wicked biker bar, allowed us to tour the Daytona International Raceway and be amazed at how freaking steep those turns really are, provided a catered VIP Party at a bar with an awesome balcony view next to the track, and of course invited everyone to attend the two day Mustangs At Daytona Mustang Show at Destination Daytona. From start to finish, Jeff Dixon and Nate Taylor busted their asses to make the week fun and successful. Hosting this amazing event from year to year takes tons of work and dedication and these guys deserve recognition. The best part, is that they do it for the local charities in the area and all proceeds go to help the community. In fact, these guys spend a lot of their own income just to make this event enjoyable for those that attend. We can tell you for a fact, this event is perfect for a family get away. FEATURED UPCOMING EVENT

© MAGAZINESTANG2022 “JUST THE TIP

SORRY. HOLD ON. I NEED LUBE. Let’s talk oil changes! How often does your oil need changed and why? We’ll start with some basics. Back in the early days of internal combustion engines, motor oil was just that – oil. When oil is cycled through a hot, running engine, it picks up dirt, debris and contaminates that will over time cause the oil to lose its lubricating properties. Some still stand by the old adage of “Every 3,000 miles or 3 months” however, with modern advances in engine and oil technology, that’s not really the case anymore. Let’s start with the oil itself – all modern motor oils are a synthetic blend. Synthetic oils do not break down as quickly as a traditional oil would and therefore they do not require to be changed as frequently. There’s also the option of a full synthetic oil, that manufacture companies claim can go 15,000 miles, but the price starts becoming an issue with this oil. Older engines, such as Ford’s original 289/302/351W/5.0L engine family used a 5-quart oil pan. The newer 5.0 Coyote engines have an oil capacity of 8.7 quarts. More oil means that it is not being cycled through the engine as frequently, therefore keeping the oil cooler and not breaking down its lubricating properties as quickly. So 5,000 to 7,000 miles for an oil change is pretty safe bet if you’re running a synthetic blend, 3,000 if you’re running “ old school” oil, or 7,000 to 10,000 if you’re running a full synthetic.
