The Talent Show

‘Just reminding you that the talent show will be on tommorow for students and at night for the parents,’ Mr. Baloni exclaimed. Oh no. What talent show. Why was I not listening. Please, please say it is optional... Mr. Baloni smirked and eyed each boy who he knew would whine again. ‘I will put up a sheet on the board and I shall expect you ALL to write your names down with your acts next to your name. I think this should be done by the end of the day,’ Candace was muttering to everyone on the table. ‘ I know I am going to win. My dance will be spectacular. I am totally going to win especially since I go to 2 dance classes a day. What are you going to do Naiomi?’ She sniggered to her friends waiting for an answer. The bell went off almost immediately. Candance was looking at me waiting until Mr. Baloni yelled at us to get out. Guess he wanted his weekend early. I went outside to grab my bag and drag it back to the class. I was the only one there except for Mr.Baloni. I packed my bag quickly so I would not be late for the bus. ‘Mr. Baloni?’ I asked as I tried to get my bag to my shoulder. ‘ Aren’t you meant to have gone?’ He stared at me not wanting to waste any more of his time. ‘ Mmm, but I wanted to ask...if I could miss the talent show.’ Mr. Baloni looked like he had seen an alien wave to him. ‘ No you can not unless you can give me a decent excuse which you can not so I have come up with an act for you. Can you play an instrument?’ ‘ Yyyesss,’ I spoke as if I was talking to a ghost. ‘ In the talent show I want you to PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENT!’ I ran out the door knowing thats what he would want me to do that. I jumped on the bus, panting. I couldn’t help repeating in my head: ‘PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENT’ I can play guitar but not in front of an audience! I would never do it even if it was the end of the world. Jake was sitting next to me banging the air-con to work. I grabbed my water bottle out of my bag. Sweat dribbled down my head while I drunk like I just got off a desert island. ‘Just had chillies?’ Jake laughed. I knew he was just joking. I tried to make an angry face though I couldn’t help laughing. Jake is always full of jokes. If we had a class clown award he would probably win the award every year without fail. He has been my friend from the time we started school together. He lives one stop after me, so we live quite near each other.

‘Why were you so late for the bus?’ He stopped hitting the air-con. It had let out a squeal. I explained everything to him. He knows that I can play guitar well and sing quite well but he also knew I had stage fright. He tried saying that I can do it though deep down I know he is saying it to make me feel better.

‘Bye, Jake!’ I yelled as I ran through the bus aisle. ‘Thanks!’ I shouted when I leapt off the bus. I don’t think he heard me. Shutting my eyes while I dashed home, I ended up crashing into my gate. It went all wonky but I grabbed hold of it and pushed it down while yanking myself up. My knee had a tiny graze and was bleeding a little. Quickly but gently I took my navy blue backpack off. I dug into the first pocket to find my keys which always buried in my bag because the netted pocket was torn. I’m not bothered to fix it. Clutching my silver keys, I walked home slowly because I was limping. When I got to the front door I stuck my key in as fast as possible and barged through the door. I tore my shoes off and ran to my room. I threw my bag on the soft carpet and lay down. ‘Naiomi? Naiomi?’ I heard James giggling with his friends. Maybe I dozed off. ‘Get out of my face!!!!!’ I yelled when they screeched and burst out laughing. I started to run after them in the living room. They were peering out of James’ door, still laughing. When I ran, I tripped over. Peering at my shoes I noticed the laces were tied together. I undid them and got up and ran to James’ door. He and his friends locked the door so I could not get in. It is really annoying having an older brother. I went to the kitchen and grabbed something for my dinner. ‘Mum would be coming home soon,’ I thought. The cool air from the fridge gave me a chill. I opened the microwave and set it to 45 seconds. I grabbed my fried chicken from the microwave and ran to the living room. I put the steaming plate on the table and snatched the T.V. remote. Nothing interesting was on but I watched anyway. I ate my fried chicken and there was a loud knock on the door. Mum came home. I opened the door and let her settle down. Then I told her everything about the talent show. ‘Just play a song you learn in guitar class,’ She tried saying convincingly. ‘I will but you know I can’t do things in front of an audience. I have stage fright!’ ‘Don’t worry. Just play a short song. You don’t have to sing,’ I took mum’s words in and practiced over and over again. My fingers started to ache so I put my guitar away and got ready for bed. I jumped into the bed and dozed off almost immediately. The sound of my alarm clock stunned me. The duvet covered my head. I pushed it off and had a nice long stretch. The soft carpet made me want to jump back into bed. The day of the talent show was finally here. I am not

excited for the rest of the day. I ran to get my guitar at the other end of the room. Nobody was home but me. James was at school and my mum was at work. I pulled my guitar towards the living room and put it next to the door. I had donut for breakfast because it was the first thing I grabbed. I gulped it down and went and got ready.

My guitar was pulling me down when I yanked it up on my back. I grabbed my keys and ran out the front door. The school bus was waiting and holding up lots of cars. Jake was staring at me when I ran into the school bus. ‘Where were you?’ The tone in his voice told me he was mad. ‘Getting ready,’ I said. I was annoyed that he was annoyed. The whole bus ride was silent and when we got to school, there was a sign on our bag line that said ‘6B go straight up to class.’ Half the class was upstairs practicing their acts. I unpacked my bag and trailed to the music room with my guitar to practice. I sat down on a stool in one of the small rooms and practiced. 5 minutes later Candace came around to tell everyone to come back to the class. ‘We will start going down to the hall in a second and...’ Mr. Baloni got rudely interrupted. ‘One second is over,’ laughed Jake. The whole class started laughing except me. My tummy was churning and twisting. I couldn’t stop thinking about everyone laughing at me and pointing because I had made a mistake. ‘... as I was saying the class will be going down stairs and will get ready. When you hear your name called out you will do your act,’ He said calmly, which meant he was nervous too. When we walked down the stairs everyone was muted. Nearly everyone's hands were red and nearly all of them were shivering like they were going to war. We entered the hall and went backstage to get ready. I got out my guitar and sat down and peered at Candace. Even she was shaking and sweating. 3 people were staring out of the curtain looking at where the audience will be sitting. ‘There is a class here! There is a class here!’ They shouted. No one was paying any attention to them. Over the next few minutes more classes had started coming in and by the end of 5 minutes the hall was packed with people. The lights shut off. Everyone became eerily quiet. ‘Welcome to the 6B talent show!’ Mr Baloni yelled into the mic. ‘First up we have the Gymnasts,’ Mr. Baloni exited the stage. I walked back from the curtains because I wasn’t bothered seeing acts that were better than mine would be. Mr. Baloni calls everyone in the class except me and Candace. He put us for very last. Maybe it was because we signed up last. Candace was before

me and like she said she did a dance. I walked up to to the velvety red curtain and watched her perform her dance. Even though I don’t like her I would give her a 10. She did really well. Her legs kicked up gently with her toes poined and her twirls were on the balls of her feet. Then my name was called up. I froze. My name was called again and this time I responded to it, pushed the curtains to different sides and walked on stage. I realized I had forgotten my guitar. I shoved the curtains and grabbed it. Everyone could hear Candaces laughing. There was a chair on the stage. I sat down and closed my eyes. Everyone was still laughing, especially Candace. My palms got sweaty and I couldn't help thinking that I would make a mistake and that everyone would laugh. I looked at Mr. Baloni who was signaling for me to play. He looked very annoyed. I twitched and played guitar like I was at home, alone. I sung and played Skyfall. ‘This is the end...’ I sung. My mind was swirling. I was scared I was going to make a mistake. I sung my heart out. ‘At skyfall,’ I bellowed out the last lyrics so I could get it over with. Everyone cheered and whistled. I ran off the stage, knocking over the stool and everyone laughed. ‘The judges will now make a decision. Please talk among yourselves,’ Mr. Baloni said quickly because we were running out of time. The judges decided almost instantly. They gave Mr. Baloni the results. Mr. Baloni waltzed on stage and read them out. ‘First place: Candace!’ He bellowed Everyone cheered and Candace came on stage and bowed. ‘Second place: Naiomi!’ I was so shocked. I didn’t know how to react. I walked slowly on to stage and I couldn't hear anything else Mr. Baloni was saying. I only saw Candace stick her tongue out at me. I got completely red in the face. I got rewarded with a book card voucher for Page One and Candace got a Little Darlings by Jacqueline Wilson after the performance. Mr. Baloni said there would be different judges next time so different rankings. It felt like I was pounding my head against a brick wall only to know who the judges would be.

Do I Have To? Lucy came racing through the overly crowded corridor, waving tickets in the air, grinning. “Sally, guess what I have !” she exclaimed. “Tickets to Animal World on Sunday!” she smiled. Sally and Lucy were hugging and hopping. “Hey Lu, what if my parents don’t let me go,” sneezed Sally worriedly. “oh that might be a problem.” they both whispered as the happiness died down. Lucy went home worried “What if Sally can’t go?” Sally asked her mum as she rushed through the door “ Hey mum, Lucy invited me to Animal World on Sunday, can I go?” Sally’s mum thought for a while. “No, you can’t, I’m sorry Sally but if Lucy paid for the tickets it is just unfair.”

Sally sulked all night long, in the morning Sally rang up Lucy . “ Hi Lu, I really need to tell you something ........ I can’t ........wait till Sunday, Bye!” Sally fell backwards onto her bed . What do I do? The next day Sally was looking for Lucy everywhere, she was searching the hallways the bathrooms and classroom. Eventually Sally found Lu. “Hey Lu, where have you been?” she asked. “Oh well I was......SHOPPING!” yelled Lucy. “what for?” Sally was pleading to know. “Animal World, Duh!” giggled Lucy. Sally wondered what Lucy had got now. Lucy went online to AnimalWorld.com and ordered everything. “And now they are shutting down because they don’t have anything to sell!” Sally was as light as a feather and dizzy with happiness. Sally rang her mum at break and asked again, “Can I go?” Questioned Sally once again. And the same answer was repeated. Sally didn’t want to mention it to Lucy, it would be like slapping a sweet puppy in the face. Later that day Sally asked Lucy “Who else is coming?” “Nobody else just YOU!” she grinned, hugging Sally. But by the look on her face you could see Sally was not enjoying it. When Sally got home her brother was playing with Sirlicksalot their dog. Sally thought how would Sirlicksalot like it if Sally slapped him. He would weep just like Lucy. The next day when Sally came into the class with her head hanging low, Lucy was showing off to the class. ”Me and Sally are going to Animal World on Sunday. I guess saving up for 3 years really pays off!” Sally had to tell Lucy she couldn’t go. After school Sally rang Lucy. “Lu, Listen I don’t think........Ii can wait any longer,”said Sally wondering if Lucy had noticed that she had changed words in the same sentence. Sally didn’t think so. “Oh, me too cannot wait either, I am so excited!” yelled Lucy on the phone. “Okay Lu, but i think you are deafening me.” “oh sorry,” replied Lucy.

Oh i really don’t want to go to school thought Sally. All these problems are taking over my mind thought Sally shaking her head. What should i tell Lucy? She was so happy. This is all going wrong! SHOULD I PAY HER YES OR NO! But she is my friend. Sally’s head was spinning, her eyes were closing tightly as she fell backwards onto her bed. “SALLY, what is 300+64+2?” shouted miss McLee, her eyes shot straight at Sally. “I don’t want to tell her!” said Sally. Lucy shook Sally “ SALLY wake up!” Sally woke up with a sudden shock. Sally woke up in the nurses office. What am i doing here?. lucy was sitting next to her smiling. “felling better?” “Yeah, i guess” Sally mum came to take her home. Sally peered out of the window. After school, Sally ran to Lucy house and mumbled “ got to tell her.” then left a bag with all the items lucy had bought for her and a letter, Saying....... Dear Lucy, My mum is not letting me go on sunday. I am really sorry, i could pay but don’t have enough maybe in a few months. My eyes water as i heard i was not going. I will always be your friend. Please forgive me. I really want to go, but I don’t have enough jet. So Sorry :( love Sally Sally took a deep breath and pushed the door bell with her pinky and ran to the Car. Lucy opened the door and watched everywhere then she spotted something on the doorstep. She carefully picked the letter and her face turned to ice her tears started gliding down her face. Sally felt so bad and guilty The End

The Dawn Of The Tribes Chapter 1 The scraping wood of the massive oak stood out in the starry night as Forda crept through the undergrowth, avoiding the stems of the river bank. Forda was a slim but muscular man, his eyes were a navy blue colour that sparkled like a star that stood out in the night. He had dark brown hair that hung over his eyes like he was trying to hide his identity and his lips were slim and a very light purple. He swiftly got up and ran forward but soon skidded to a halt and stared over the extravagant blue lake that was only known to Water Tribe warriors. A strong scent drifted over to him and as he breathed in his skin turned a light blue colour reflecting the sea and big gills appeared on his short stubby neck, “Stone Tribe!” he breathed. Forda soon knelt down to one knee and murmured, “Ana Umak Tuwi” as a faded image appeared on the surface of the water. It showed his home: Water Clan, it was a massive cavern with a pool of dark mystical water and a massive mass of houses made from the local material of “gangda”. Loads of local Water Tribe warriors were crowded around something in the middle. “Something’s wrong and I can sense it,” he murmured to himself. At that moment a high-pitched scream ripped through the air and Forda flinched at the horrible sound. He knew what he had do, he got up and dived into the depths of the murky water and swam towards the underground cave. Forda got out of the water and his eyes worked hard to adjust to the bright orange light. He suddenly realized that the cavern was in a vicious battle between Stone Tribe and Water Tribe. Forda ran and ripped someone in Stone Tribe off his best friend Cunga which was scratched all over, “Thanks,” he breathed. Forda grinned but it slowly faded as he realized that they were all fleeing from the battle, he pulled Cunga up and they ran of. Forda took one last look at his home and ran, Water Tribe have been driven from their home.

Chapter 2 Beautiful shades of green Confused Forda as Water Tribe climbed over the fallen trunk covered in dark green moss, “I really hope we don’t run into Tree Tribe!” Forda laughed nervously to his Friend Cunga. “Yeah! and I really hope we find food soon, I’m hungry!” replied Cunga, he looked similar to Forda though he had scruffy dirty blond hair that hid his gills and his eyes were deep hazel.

“HURRY UP, WE DON’T HAVE ALL DAY YOU KNOW!” shouted Fodsaj whose voice was like a crack of a whip. He was the deputy of Water Tribe and was a whopper of of a man with a massive chest that bulked out of his body, it seemed like he had a permanent scowl on his face and a visible scar that slashed from his right cheek down to his chin and mostly everyone was afraid of him, so they just do what he said. “Fodsaj, they must be slow because they are sad,” Umak, the leader of Water Tribe, was a nice peaceful man with a kind heart and a long flowing beard, he was not afraid of Fodsaj or anybody else for that matter. Umak simply thinks that he is only mean because people treat him like he is mean. In the midst of the argument a scuttling sound emerged that was like the echoing footsteps from dozens of rats. Everyone jolted their heads towards the epicentre of the noise as a bulky man glided down from the trees. He had long wavy red hair that stood out on his head, this was because his skin was a rough brown that had occasional ridges in it. under his arm was a light grey sheet of unknown material, “that was why he could glide down from the highest branch,” thought Forda, “What are you doing on Tree Tribe territory?” he yelled in a strange accent, “Stone Tribe have driven us from our home, all we ask is to have shelter! we came out here to make peace and plot back on those disgraces!” replied Umak, he looked very calm but his eyes but it turned to a deep glare as more Tree Tribe warriors appeared throughout the trees. “Get out of our forest!” shouted the guy with the strange hair, but that just launched them into a battle, Forda launched himself at a Tree Tribe warriors and raked his skin, Cunga got hit and got forced to the ground at that moment somebody yelled at the red haired guy, “Stop Trufek,” he turned to Umak, “we will allow you in our territory but on two conditions: one: you are not allowed in our camp! two: you help us defeat Stone Tribe, we have already plotted to attack tomorrow,” everybody turned to him, it was the leader of Tree Tribe, Erbel. “Thank You,” Umak eyes darted to side to side, he seemed to almost look embarrassed, They trotted off as one big group and left Erbel and his Tribe behind. After a hour of trekking over the wet soil squished up on the ground, all of their skins were dry because they were used to the wet river ways. Eventually they came across a little stream with clear water glistening as it flowed down towards the pool of water. next to it was the mini opening of a cave, “just what we needed,” whispered Forda as they all laid down against the cool lumpy surface of the strangely shaped rocks. “You better get some sleep” Cunga whispered to him, he must of been really tired because Cunga shut his eyes almost immediately. “Goodnight Cunga,” replied Forda, for a few minutes he thought about what might happen the next day, people are gonna die, people are gonna get injured, are we

going to win?, he pushed the thoughts clouding his mind and shut his eyes.

Chapter 3 The sun turned the sky a bright orange colour as Forda returned with a fresh fish from the lake. A clattering of hooves showed that Tree Tribe had arrived, Forda walked over to Cunga and shook him till he woke up, “Forda, why did you wake me up so early, it’s not even dawn?” he asked, “Tree Tribe are here and there saying that it is time to go!” replied Forda, he helped Cunga up and followed all of the other Warriors. After about 1 hour of running they saw smoke rising over the trees, the leaves had turned a crisp brown colour like they were already dead. The edge of the forest and the dark border between Tree Tribe and Stone Tribe was just a few steps in front of them. Now they could see the Stone Tribe camp or more like city, most of the inside was covered by a massive ganda wall that seemed to crumble on the edges like it was there for several 100 years. A massive tower stood out on the skyline, it was a castle like thing that had ancient paintings all over it and it’s roof was a deep navy blue, “We aren’t going to be able to get in without disguising ourselves as Stone Tribe” whispered Cunga in Forda’s ear. they crept up to the gate and crouched at the entrance, a massive cart which was all made of rickety wood that was falling apart and inside it was a big pile of straw, “Exactly what we needed” murmured Fodsaj as he silently heaved himself inside with Trufek at his side. The cart suddenly roared on and it left Forda and all of Water Tribe and Tree Tribe. They crept forward until they saw a big bush that leaned toward the trunk of a massive oak tree that provided cover and shade, Umak with Erbel had signaled for all of them to follow them. Umak stood up but before anyone could see him he clenched his fists and flipped into position. Soon everyone got into single file and followed till they were in the cover of the bush. Suddenly the sound of gunshot crackled through the air as a two limp bodies fell to the dusty, stony floor, Forda realized who they were, there was no mistaking that evil scowl on his face, it was Fodsaj and Trufek. --------Anger swelled up inside him, his eyes darted to look at Umak who spat with the same hatred as him, “This is too much, JUST TOO MUCH!” yelled Umak and to Forda’s surprise, he got up and ran towards the middle of the clearing, he got out a bow n’ arrow and shot at the stone tribe warrior. Unfortunately the Stone Tribe warrior dodged it and darted forwards, at that moment everyone instantly recognised the Stone Tribe leader: Kamak. Kamak squinted and suddenly realized that they were all charging towards the centre of the clearing. The City was then locked in vicious battle. Forda was right in the middle of it charging at Kamak, with Umak at his

side, they both jumped and forced him to the ground. “You’ll never win” he spat whilst grunting with effort to get up, Kamak managed to secretly slide out his knife and in a split second swung at Umak. Umak darted backwards but the blade still grazed his skin. Umak staggered and was no match for the second strike. It hit him right it the neck and he collapsed to the floor. Dead. Forda stared in horror towards the dead body, he could not stand this anymore. He launched himself at him and threw reckless swipes with his skinning knife. After a moment he did not realize what he had done. He had killed Kamak. “We won, We actually won!” yelled Cunga, “wait who is gonna be leader if Umak is dead” he hung his head. “Forda!” yelled Erbel, everyone jolted their heads towards Erbel, “Yes, I say Forda as well” shouted Cunga, “Fo-orda s-should be l-leader” whispered Umak as he coughed up a lot of blood. Everyone gathered around Umak. “H-he w-will be l-leader.” Forda could not believe it, he tried to blink back tears, “don’t leave me” he whispered. It was official he was the leader of Water Tribe now. By: Cameron A.K.A Barca

The Tale Of A Boy

“Tom, listen!” his math teacher yelled. “I see that you are not paying attention again. Come with me, young man!” Tom sighed, made a rude gesture at the man and shoved his textbooks into his desk. Two minutes later, Tom was standing outside the principal’s office while his teacher was inside. “Come in,” his principal said. “I am very upset with you and will have to talk to your Dad.” His hands tapping the table. “Leave, and don’t do that again!” he shouted, with a face as red as a tomato. When Tom was home there was a Glo-Sticker note on the fridge door:

‘I hate him. Why does he have to leave a note and waste fridge space’ he thought, “ And I’m leaving” he mumbled, pleased at how much trouble that would give his dad. ‘I might be able to leave the country and start a new life as an orphan!’ The thought troubled him, but he wanted to get away from his dad so badly he consented to the idea. DING! DONG! DING! DONG!

It was dad, it had to be dad. He had been away for two and a half days and Tom could not last much longer. He had been making ham sandwiches with hot chocolate for sixty hours and he was thinking that he would never eat or drink them again. Tom crossed the room and grasped the handle of the door. He pulled and the handle came off the door. “Oh GREAT” he shouted and kicked the door, hearing but not seeing the CRASH as it fell to the floor. “Oh no.” Tom and his dad mumbled in unison, with a dust cloud hanging in the air above their heads. “It’s okay. you know Tom, we can replace the door............. after all, the fortune that your grandmother left behind has just been added up today. We now officially own 1.2 billion dollars!” dad yelled triumphantly, punching the air. Tom sighed ‘Why is he so dramatic?’ Tom did not know why his dad would give his mom that sickness. he knows I hate him and will never forgive him for giving mum that sickness. Tom thought about it and realized his father did it for the money. ‘Run!’ Tom thought, sprinting across the sidewalk at 12:45AM. He had been careful not to wake up his dad as he escaped from the house at 12:15AM. Firstwood forest was looming closer and closer. Tom could already spot the caves that his friends had been talking about when they had been thinking about leaving. One of the caves were lit up and Tom knew that it was the cave his friends were sheltering in for the night. “Hey James!” Tom yelled as he finally entered the cave. There were four of his friends: James, Alex, Ben and John. They had been planning to flee their lives together and this was the night they would do it. “Got the bread, cheese, coffee powder, tea bags, sausages, beef...........................” Tom said reading from the list they had made up two days ago. “All food is present and accounted for!” Ben announced happily. BEE! BOO! BEE! BOO! BEE! BOO! “Oh no, not now!” Tom screamed, frustrated, as police sirens wailed. “We were so close!” signed ben. “Halt” a voice ,far below them, shouted as they started to scramble up the rock face. The quintet stiffened as a torch beam roamed across the cliff and perched neatly on James’s shoulder blades. “Got you pesky kids!” “Come down at once!” Tom realized that the voice was his father’s so he started climbing down, reassured that the policeman was probably still in the police car. “I’m sorry,” dad voiced and slumped down on the couch, three hours later, after dad had stopped the escape. “I should never have been so hard on you.” “But you gave mum that sickness!” Tom screeched in his face. “Mum is gone...........” dad’s booming voice trailed off.

“Wha.. What!” “NOOOOOOOOOOO” Tom screamed in frustration. ‘Mum was gone.’ ‘Mum was gone.’ ‘’no.’’ ‘’no.’’ ‘’no!’’ this was not right. He had wanted to spend more time with her, playing video games he remembered that mum had so enjoyed. Now she was dead. Gone from his life...........

The Bullies

“Amy!” shouted three massive girls in Amy’s class. “Yes,” mumbled Amy. Amy was shivering with fear in her seat at school and looking up at the bullies. She felt smaller than she’d ever felt before. “If you don’t give us 100 pounds by Friday we’ll tell everyone that you sleep with a teddy bear even though you don’t!” they screamed. “Okay” Amy replied shakily. Amy’s parents thought that Amy was doing really well at school and they have always been proud of her. The problem is that Amy doesn’t want to tell her parents that she is getting bullied but she needs 100 pounds. Amy’s dad has been showing signs of sickness recently and is coughing a lot. Amy thinks that he might need to go to hospital which means that her mum will need the 100 pounds. Amy hoped that her dad would get better so that it would be easier to steal the money. After school Amy stumbled down her stairs to the kitchen. She was planning to steal the money as soon as possible. She was shaking so much you would think she was in Antarctica. She had never stole anything before. When she finally got to the kitchen she realized that her dad was washing the dishes with his back turned. Amy opened the door as quietly as she could and then crept over to the middle of the room where her mum’s purse was lying on the table. This is it, Amy thought. Suddenly Amy’s dad turned round. “What are you doing?” he asked. “Nothing,” Amy replied. “Well how was school then?” her dad questioned. “Emm, okay,” Amy mumbled. Why does he have to be so nosy? Amy thought. I was so close to stealing that money. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Amy’s dad asked. “Yes, of course. You just go back to washing the dishes.” Amy’s palms were dripping with nervous sweat. Her heart was beating so fast.

You could see a vein throbbing on her forehead. This is my last chance, Amy thought. She reached out her shaking hand and snatched 100 pounds from the purse. “Bye dad,” she muttered and then quickly ran up to her bedroom to hide the 100 pounds to give to the bullies the next day. After school the next day Amy saw her dad lying in bed. “Why are you in bed and not at work?” she asked. “I have a bad cough and can’t move,” he answered croakily. “Should I call mum to take you to the hospital?” Amy questioned. “Yes pl-,” he began and then fell asleep. Amy raced to the phone and dialled her mum’s number as quickly as she could. Amy’s mum got to the house and rushed through the door as soon as possible. As soon as she looked at her husband she called an ambulance. When the ambulance got to the house the doctors lifted Amy’s dad into the back of the it. Amy and her mum jumped in as well with wet cheeks. Amy’s dad had never been as ill as this before. Amy’s mum wondered where her 100 pounds was. A sudden wave of guilt flashed into Amy’s stomach and she felt like vomiting. Amy didn’t know what to do. Then it struck her! She needed to tell the truth. The very next day Amy told her parents that she stole the 100 pounds. Amy’s parents gave her a big telling off lecture. “Why didn’t you just tell us you that you were being bullied in the first place?” they shouted. “Emm I don’t know. I-,” Amy began while biting her lip. “Then you secretly stole 100 pounds to give to them!” her parents interrupted in a rage. “Do you even know what the money is for?” “No. I was just scared to tell you.” “Well then, tell us exactly what happened.” “Eh, okay,” Amy squeaked shakily. Amy explained everything. She could see that any excuse wouldn’t be good enough so she was just completely honest with her parents. After the family’s long discussion they told her with stern voices that she needed to stand up to the bullies and get the 100 pounds back so that’s exactly what she did. It could be extremely risky though. As soon as Amy got to school the next day she shouted at the bullies even though she was trembling with fear. “I don’t care if you tell the whole school that I go to sleep with a teddy bear! My dad is seriously ill and all I want is my 100 pounds back so he will get better!” Amy screamed. She breathed heavily. The bullies were looking at her as if she were an alien from outer space. They were so shocked and looked ridiculous. They gave Amy the 100 pounds back like robots. Amy was really pleased. The bullies told everyone that Amy slept with a teddy bear the next day though. When Amy walked into the classroom that morning she noticed that almost everyone in the room was staring at her, whispering to each other and sniggering. Are they all thinking about me? Amy asked herself. When she sat down she put her head on her desk and covered it with her hands. I can’t wait until the end of the day. Amy thought. Today is going to be torture. Everyone probably thinks I’m stupid.

Amy’s dad was already better by Sunday the same week. Amy told him and her mum what she did. “You did the right thing,’Amy’s mum said. “We are very proud of you,” Amy’s dad exclaimed. “Thanks but everyone is making fun of me. I don’t know what to do,” Amy answered. “You should just try to ignore everyone and then they will hopefully forget about it sooner or later,” Amy’s mum told her. “Eh, okay, Amy replied. Amy’s mum’s plan worked. After about two weeks nobody seemed to have even glanced in Amy’s direction. The bullies ignored Amy too. They probably got bored of making me sad. Well good. Amy thought. When Amy got home she told her parents that the bullies leave her alone now and it seems like everyone has forgotten about what the bullies said. Amy went to sleep that night relieved that from now on she didn’t have to worry about anything. By Anna

Nike’s Skateboard Competition He tiptoed out of his bedroom, slowly, slowly trying not to attract attention. “Yes! Almost there!” He thought. But as he crept along the old wooden floor in the corridor... “Hey Nike, where you going?” yelled his mom from the sofa. “Uh,uh the student council meeting?” “Oh, that means you’ll have to miss the family meeting...” croaked mom. “Y..yeah.... bye!!” Nike shouted. He dashed out of the living room, cautiously picked up his skateboard, scrambled over the mountains and finally stopped at the skateboard ranch. “That, was close,” Nike sighed in relief. Mio and Will were there already. The skateboard Mio had given to Nike was his favourite colour: orange. “Since you weren't allowed to use your own since they’re not sure if you cheated.” “3..2..1..START!!”Mio screamed aloud. The skateboard competition had started. Nike was still in the lead while Will, was at the back. “I can’t let Nike defeat me this time,” Will thought. So, he pressed a button, which was a device Will had set up before Nike came to the ranch, the skateboard Nike was riding on’s wheel, collapsed. Nike glided in the air, fell flat-faced on the slope and unfortunately sprained his ankle. Will’s brain started to shout, ‘Help him! Help him!’ He couldn’t stand the pressure of his pain-beating brain. So Will picked up Nike, shook him to wake him up and carefully took him to the hospital.

There, was Nike lying on the soggy and wet hospital bed and surrounding him were Mio, Will and Mr Kane, their teacher. Mom and Dad ran as fast as lightning up to Nike. “What happened?! I thought you were busy in school doing your meetings?” Mom’s face turned purple as her hands squeezed Nike like an earthquake was about to erupt. “Huh? You were supposed to have a council meeting? If you did, Will and I could’ve changed the date of the skateboard competition!” Mio whimpered but in a rude, loud way. Nike turned red and faced his parents. Dad was like a volcano finishing erupting and just about to blow up, Mom twisted and twirled until her body collapsed onto dad’s arms but got up and screamed, “ You CRAZY boy! How many times have I told you not to touch your skateboard! Now do you see the consequences? You have sprained your ankle!!” she stamped her feet and had the expression of killing her own son. Nike turned to his mum while her arms were crossed and her mouth was wide open, kind of like eating three peaches at once. He tried to explain with all the dumb excuses he could get, but nothing worked. Nike eventually gave-up because all the sadness surrounding him was just too hard. He started to whimper, which turned to a cry. “I just wanted to skate on my board for at least one more time!” Nike tried to run, but that was too painful so Mr Kane stopped him. “It’s ok Nike. Plus, you can’t go back again or do anything. But of course we need a good explanation of everything that has happened, don’t we?” Mr Kane held him firmly but gently by the shoulders. Dad and Mom nodded. “Well Nike?” Nike explained everything in every little specific detail. How he lied to everyone. He started to cry while Mom and Dad hugged him. Mr.Kane

just grinned and since Mio was an actor, she dramatically cried with a napkin too. By Christabel

Mr. Booshka Sally peered through the greasy glass window ‘’I’ll take this one please,’’ she said in her I-won't-be pleased-for-long voice. A strange looking creature stared at her with its luminous, blue eyes. It had a round body with puffy, pink fur. Sally knew that this was adorableness at first sight. The shopkeeper frowned, ‘’I don't think this ones for you miss.’’ Sally’s face twisted,‘’Why not? Its perfect! Has it got fleas or an illness of some sort?’’ The shopkeeper fiddled around with her stubby fingers. ’’Well...no,its just...just choose another pet, because that one’s not for sale!’’ huffed the shopkeeper her face turning a shade darker. ‘’Please! I’ll pay double the price!’’ Sally pleaded. ‘’OUT! Enoughs enough and you’ve gone too far young lady!’’ yelled the shopkeeper. Sally hung her head and walked through the door. Then at night Sally snuck out of her house and tiptoed to the pet shop, Sally looked around cautiously just in case anyone was around. Then quietly took a pin out of her frizzy hair and twisted and turned it through the keyhole. ‘Click’ The door opened, Sally went inside the snoring pet shop. ‘’Poof!’’ she heard a strangely familiar sound. It was the pet she had seen last morning! Sally quickly put the snoring, pink puff ball into her bag and rushed back home into her bed. The next morning Sally was skipping to her house with her new pet ‘Sabrina’ in her smooth extra-lotioned hands, when her neighbour (more like a devil disguised as a child) came by. ‘’What's that?’’ she asked in her usual husky voice. ‘’Umm...its a crossbreed between a pink chinchilla and a small lamma....my cousin from...uh Peru umm..gave it to me umm....while he was resting in umm...a sacred umm..incan cave....of the....um..sun gods hidden....temple?’’ lied Sally. Caroline raised her eyebrow. ‘’ Really? Well anyway since you have an....animal, may I have your permission to use it for my science project?’’ then quickly added ‘’and don't worry you can trust me, its not like I would blow it up by mistake or something like that.’’ Sally looked worried ‘’Jeez! Now since she said that Caroline could be able to do that!’’ she thought to herself. Sally was about to tell Caroline that she was mistaken when Caroline ran off with Sabrina in her uncomfortably bony arms spread with deep cuts and rashes from her past experiments.

‘’Ah!’’ Sally screamed as she sat bolt up in her bed. She let a sigh of relief as her mum came rushing into her room. ‘’Are you okay Sally?’’ asked her mum. ‘’You’re really lucky Caroline came to us when you fainted on the street and maybe you should go to her house and thank her while you take Sabrina home.’’ ‘’Who’s Sabrina?’’ asked Sally confused. ‘’Its your mutant pet you stupidly chose you should have just gotten a dog or an cat!’’ huffed Sally's Mum trying hard not to get upset. ‘’Okay I’ll pick her up...’’Grumbled Sally. Ding Dong! The Big Black door rung leading to the front of Caroline’s Gothic Mansion. ‘’Yes?’’ Screeched Caroline’s butler in a high pitched voice. ‘’Um...Hi I am Caroline’s um..frie...neighbour I live next door...So I was just uh....wondering if I could have Sabri....’’ ‘’Yes. Yes! We’ve been expecting you. Now come along!’’ said the butler impatiently, motioning towards the door. The butler led Caroline through winding corridors, flights of steps, rooms and gardens when he finally stopped at an old door which had a golden plate tinted green with age which read ‘Mr.Booshka’’. Sally slowly but delicately stepped into the spaced room, her eyes darted across the room then settled down on a tall, old man with icy blue eyes and a big pointy nose. ‘’Ah! So you’re that Sally whom my niece has been on about!’’ said Mr.Booshka coldly. He paced around the room then stopped and looked through his colour stained window. ‘’You do want to get your pet back don’t you?’’ he paused ‘’ Then touch that heart, the spiky one but you shall meet your fate. The greedy one’s don’t get what they want so it won’t be how you wished.’’ Mr Booshka tilted his head and slowly pointed his bony finger to a small spiky metal heart with blood omens decorated around the base. ‘’Um... Thanks?’’ she said and slowly touched it.... ‘’Ahhhhh!!!!!’’ Sally screamed. Pain seared into her and cut its way through to her heart. Mr.Booshka’s laughter filled her head, Caroline’s weeping and her mothers wailing and then there was silence. Sally fell to her knees coughing up blood and heard a sound ‘poof!’ ‘’Why...are you...doing this....to...me,’’ coughed Sally. ‘’Aw....why? Don’t know your pets a part of me?’’ sneered Mr.Booshka ‘’You should have listened to that pet keeper! I told him to keep little poofy

while I was gone and look who’s got him now!’’ ‘’ I..am sssory!...You can...take...it,’’stuttered Sally. Suddenly the door swung open, Caroline came in the room red faced. ‘’What are you doing here Caroline! Can’t you see I’m in the middle of something,’’ hissed Mr.Booshka ‘’Uncle! Why are you doing this? You’re worse then father....when he was alive,’’ blurted Caroline. ‘’Ugh! You’re parents were varmints and so are you,’’ Mr.Booshka spat. ‘’Thats it! I ‘m sick of you!’’ screamed Caroline and threw the metal heart onto the marble floor. Mr.Booshka’s eyes widened with fear ’’Have you realized what you’ve just done child?’’ he choked. ‘’Yes, Yes I have...and I’m proud of it!’’ Caroline smiled and tossed her black curls over her shoulder. The pain disappeared in Sally’s body and she stopped coughing up blood, she staggered across the room where Caroline was standing ‘’Thanks,’’ Sally said, she smiled weakly. ‘’ C'mon, I’ll walk you home. I don’t think you'd like to see him exploding,’’ Caroline nodding at her Uncle getting bigger and redder at the moment. As they reached near Sallys home they heard a faint splash, they turned around to see one of the rooms in Caroline’s house had blood and guts smothered on the window. Caroline shuddered ‘’And am I glad Nannie Grace is cleaning that mess up!’’ she exclaimed. The two girls laughed. ‘’ Oh! And by the way, I am so sorry about the damage from my uncle’s Gizbawit, I never liked it,’’ Caroline said quietly with her head hung. ‘’Oh its fine...what is a Gizbawit?’’ asked Sally. ‘’A Gizbawit is just a creature living inside an Comsi-Creators craft box, like my uncle,’’ replied Caroline. Sally was stunned, ‘’Okay.....I think I’ll just stay out of the Gizbawit and comsi stuff!’’. Caroline grinned ‘’Okay, bye Sally see you tomorrow!’’. ‘’Bye Caroline,’’ Sally whispered and then walked away. By Alison

The Sacrifice

“Kayo, are you ready?” Dad yelled from his room. Kayo had been waiting for this day as it was his cricket match, so he had whipped on some clothes and was ready a good half hour early. “Yes dad,” Kayo replied as he put his pads, gloves, box and helmet into his kit bag. “Well then give me two minutes,” said dad. Two minutes later Kayo found himself sitting on the back of the bike speeding to the Wankhede Stadium for his match. “Is that it?” Kayo asked as they drove through Marine Drive and watched the stadium appear overlooking the ocean. “That's it,” dad yelled over the roar of the engine. Once they reached the stadium, the whole team went through the batting lineup and the match started. Kayo made 65 runs but his team did not do so well and they lost. There was another man that Kayo had never seen before walking up to him. “Hey captain!” he spoke in a British accent. “I saw your performance out there. Good job,” he continued. Then he handed him a form. “This is a form for playing at Lords with the professionals,” he said. “Fill it in and we can take you there.” When he walked away, Kayo began to sing: “I’m going to Lords,” he sang over and over again until he was out of breath. Dad was not so sure. “1,000,000 rupees,” he thought “there’s no way I can afford that much unless I sell my bike”. “No” he said to himself “I bought that with all my money and I am not giving it away.” “But Kayo?” He glanced at his son who was dancing around the dressing room. “I might just have to.” The next day when Kayo went to school, dad put posters on the streets saying: Scooter for sale! Please call: 68934867. No one was interested so dad asked grandad for help. Now grandad had a lot of rich friends but he was old and lost track of where they were. After hearing dad’s story, grandad went and somehow found one of his friend’s number and called him up. After about 20 minutes, he came back with a little hope in his eyes and said, “he will give us the money by 21 September.” But when dad checked the sheet, it said that the money must be handed in by 20 September. Dad wanted to cry. “What if Kayo got to know?” “He thought “What would Kayo think?” Days passed and no-one came. Kayo’s only bat broke during practice so he had

no bat! Then finally, one day before 20 September, a man came over and bought their bike for exactly 1,000,000 rupees. Dad immediately bought two bus tickets with his spare money and took Kayo to the BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India). When they arrived dad and Kayo dashed in and gave the money. But one person in the council said “sorry, he is too late.” Dad wanted to smash him and Kayo started sobbing. Then another person in the council spoke. “If he doesn’t go, no-one will” The whole council agreed. They then put a tick next to Kayo’s name and and then the next day, Kayo found himself sitting on a flight heading towards London. When they landed, Kayo knew that this was going to be the best year of his life but, he still had no bat! When they arrived at the stadium, Kayo was a bit embarrassed as he was the chosen one and he did not have a bat! Luckily dad had told the council just before leaving and then when it was his turn, Kayo was told to keep a bat which he thought was fantastic for himself. Then he was called up and he knew that there was one international player from India waiting for him. By: Vidur

An Agonising Search

Victoria, Elizabeth, James, William and I decided to play hide and seek. “Hide and seek is my favourite game,”I exclaim,I try to get a space behind a tree, I knew I’d be caught, soon after that Victoria comes over panting endlessly then eventually calms down and asks me “Is this a good space to hide together, do you think James will find us? This is strange to ask but are Gillian and Steve your real parents.” My face goes blank, I was clueless. “ Don't ask that” I plead “Ever again,” as i walk off I remember never seeing my parents at all. Avoiding Victoria for the rest of the day didn’t help and trying to avoid that memory didn't help either.Walking past all the houses isn’t ideal as it brings memories to my head, I am silent as I enter my room like being late for a funeral. Disappointment fills the atmosphere then later Gillian opens the door to remind me “ Dinner’s ready.” Mushroom soup makes me less hungrier, I stare into my soup wondering if I’ll get a clue. “Kailia what’s wrong with you, not saying anything won’t help” Gillian asks “W-What is w-wrong with m-m-me G-Gillian,V-V-Victoria a-asked me if you a-and Steve were my real parents because I-I don’t look like you’’ Trying to hold back my tears doesn’t work since one tear leads to a flood of tears. “Next time just tell me if somebody is asking you questions like that” “ I’ve decided to try find my parents’’ I confess “What?’’ Gillian yelled in time with the living room door swinging open. “Only me,’’ replied Steve “Kailia’s going to try find her biological parents because of a question she was asked at school.’’ Gillian shouted. Steve’s eyebrows furrowed, his hands clenched into a fist turns into a point in a blink of an eye, he’s pointing at me. “Excuse me! Kailia just because of a question, you're trying to find your biological parents, if you do you'll be trying to break this family apart!”Steve yelled. I run up to my room, I am not giving up in trying to find my biological parents. It is my decision isn’t it? The door creaks open. “Go away, Gillian!” I yelled “It’s..uh..Steve,..uh..I’m here to give your soup” Steve mumbled, he leaves not

knowing what to say. The soup smells amazing so I eat everything that go back to bed thinking about what steve meant when he yelled if I’m trying to break this family apart. Questions bounce off the walls of my mind, should I find them. Should I not? “Good morning, Kailia,” said Gillian happily as if she had no memory of last night. “I-I decided to give up in trying to find my parents because it doesn’t make you or Steve happy” “We’ve talked about that and instead of going against you we want to help and encourage you.” Gillian explains. A smile crawled onto my face like a spider crawling up its web. Just when things can’t get worse Mr.Rowe assigns us to write a report on our family and as soon as I heard that my heart sank and my head fell into my hands and a reminder appears. Gillian walks in excited and confident. “I’ve got nothing to do you’ve got nothing to do,let’s make this day one of our search”Gillian walks in saying full of excitement. She sits down next to me. “I have found out your fathers name as well, Clifford Mcclelland” “ My mother’s name was Stacey,Stacey McClelland,” I reply. “Now we know where to start,” Gillian exclaimed. “How was the search” Steve asked “Not great.” We reply. “I’ve got something to say,”Steve’s voice lowered as he sat down next to me on the couch, “Well...your father committed suicide when your mother died.” Once again tears flood out but then I had an idea to check if my mom had a criminal record soon after that I explained my idea to Gillian and Steve. “Why may I ask would you like to look through our records” The policeman questioned. “We are looking for a late Stacey McClleland.”My palms started to sweat as the policeman stumbled looking through files, papers, accordion folders and cabinets the whole lot until he looks to Gillian and suggest “ You should probably read this”.When Gillian cupped her hand over her mouth in shock I snatched the piece of paper and read aloud “Dear Kailia Mcclelland , if you are reading this then I am afraid i am no longer with you, the reason I gave you up for adoption was because I knew I would do something wrong which I have, if I could I would have changed my actions but I wish you all the best for the coming years, Love Mom Stacey Mcclelland 14/5/1785,” Tears clogged my eyes, “ Th-This w-was written last month,” my eyes turn straight to the policeman “ Why didn’t you inform me?” I turned my head to Gillian who was crying and she told me “ You are the bravest 12-year-old girl I’ve ever met” she brushes my chestnut hair out of my face to uncover my blue eyes and reassures me “ You still have me” By Jessica

The Fire

Harry always loved work but all of that changed when he his mum got married again. He had to change from being a babysitter to a cleaner just because he wasn't bringing enough money for his big, fat, witch looking dad.

After the work shift Harry got his money and walked back home, but as he left the lift he knew something was wrong. He smelt something burning and then suddenly BOOM! the sprinkler started going. Harry used all his force to reach for the door handle as the glacier water started to paralyze him. He turned the knob and went into his flat where the flaming fire was blowing like hurricane against the kitchen door eager to come out. Harry sprinted down the corridor with all his speed making his body hotter even harder to resist the ferocious fire coming towards him. He entered his room as his fingers shivered their way to the treasure box, and at that moment a rush came in his head all those bad memories just came back in mind-blowing thoughts. All those days of cleaning other waste might just be swept away from him in second. All the money that he had been working for could be burnt right in front of his eyes. As he slipped his red slippery soggy hands on the flaming handle he heard, “Ahhh coming from somewhere in the house.

So he shouted back, “Who’s there?”. But no response was to be heard by that mysterious voice. He had to find who was in trouble, but who could it be ? Would it be worth going for that person or could it just be a trick that his mind had played? Would it be worth losing all his money that he’d been working for? But he knew that somebody would be worth losing all his money. Barely seeing anything, he forced himself to let go of the handle. It might have been the worst thing to do although he knew that he wasn’t going to regret it. He slowly reached for the wrecked rooms door with his skinless red hand and opened it! But that wasn’t the end of the struggle it was just the beginning and the easiest part of the adventure. All he wanted to do was go back to sleep and not ever worry about anything again, but now wasn’t the time to think about that. Just when he thought it was over he heard “Help!” He screamed with the pitch of a 3 year old screaming for his mum. “Who are you?” It was just too much for him. He couldn’t take it. He had enough. He couldn’t do everything it by himself anymore. Slowly a drop of water slid down the flaming face of Harry. But something inside pushed him to go on. He crept his way up and into the bathroom and just when he thought that his head had tricked him,he saw his mum! He was hardly able to hold inside the pain that was punching beneath his skin but he couldn’t show that to his mum because he knew that she was in more pain than anybody so he couldn’t complain. He slipped his sweaty hands under his delicate burnt mum and then he pushed with all the energy that his body could find lifting his Mum up to his waist height. Then out of nowhere he heard, “Help over here.” So could it be another desperate life-screaming person or was it a trick of his mind from exhaustion? But he always got lucky a second time so he screamed at his legs to get to that voice. Then as the smoke filled his teary eyes and his dried mouth he heard, “In the living room.” So he screamed back “Don’t worry I’m coming” so by his word he scrambled his body into the room and at the middle of the sofa was his dad with hardly a scratch. So for once his dad could come in handy he whispered, “Go get mum and I’ll go to get the money” His dad responded without any struggle at all and with a big fat smile face “No problem.” So they both went on their ways but at Harry's eyes his room had become a pile of ashes but all that remained was the shining silver treasure box that contained the most precious thing to him his money. For the last time from

what he thought, he drained his hand down the handle as he crunched his smoked hand around the handle. He slowly pulled up the luxurious box up and out of the room but just when he thought it was the end he saw his mum barely breathing, on the ground. He knew it his dad would never help the family and would have never loved them, but he couldn’t think of how much he hated his dad then he had more important things to do. He screamed “Why dad why what did I do to you, why me” he slowly thought to him as all of his hope wen’t away what why did he leave his mum. Out of nowhere a rush of strength came in his body that felt it was never going to run out, with that energy he crammed his hand under the gap and lifted up the lid of his treasure box. He barely got any of the money but his mum was more important than money he grabbed his mom's hand as he slid her to the edge of the door and finally out. But it wasn't finished their his mum was still hurt. But just when he had finished that adventure he fell to the ground it just was too much all those days of hard working were swept away because of his dad, all that money gone. But he couldn’t give up now his mum was minutes away from dying. He rushed in the lift smashed the G button and off he went but at the bottom was another surprise for him. For him it wasn’t shocking at all it was his dad paying some people that did the fire, the fire that nearly killed him and his mum. He shouted at the top of his voice. “I’m back and I’m not done with you, all the years I’ve been putting my face in toilet and mum cooking that was to earn some money for the family and I cared for you” he belted out as his eyebrows faced down and has he clinched his fist. But all his dad responded was “I don’t care for you guys you're just a bunch of losers and I never loved you guys.” With his arms crossed and with a huge smile. He shouted back “Well then get out of our faces and never come back, I’ll take care of mum and good luck finding a son and a mum that are willing to let you stay all day on the sofa.” As he stomped his foot against the ground. It was getting too late he couldn’t fight anymore if he did his mum would die, but after what he experienced he knew that his mum and him were invincible. Coming from around the streets he heard “Make way ambulance coming”he screamed back “ I’m here, I’m here help me” finally he thought to himself , some help. As soon as that ambulance heard that yell they turned around the corner and saw in what bad conditions Harry’s mum was in. As soon as he came on, the driver whispered with a gentle voice “You're a brave man.”

The Mystery of the Missing Teacher

Knock knock knock. “Anybody there?” asked Max, slowly twisting the knob. ”Creeeeeeaaaaaaaak” went the door on its rusty hinges. Max gasped. The room was in chaos! The light bulb had shattered and there was glass everywhere. The lock was forced out of the door hole, the chair had been smashed to splinters, and the books were torn to shreds. As Max tried to get to the desk he tripped over a big dictionary and crashed onto the desk, hitting his arm. “Stupid dictionary!” he spat as blood spread down his wrist. He kicked one of the desk’s legs. Suddenly something caught his eye; a tin box with his

name on it. He wondered what was inside so he slowly opened the box. Inside were three pieces of paper and a pocket-sized book. He stuffed them in his pocket and ran out of the room. “Bring bring!” rattled the bell as he ran past into the classroom. Carter was waiting for him. ”What took you such a long time?” he whispered. Max told him about the room. When he finished talking the phone rang and the teacher quickly grabbed it and started blabbing, “bla bla bla bla bla” “are you sure?” “bla bla

bla bla!”

When he finished talking he seriously open eyed stared at the silent class and whispered,”there has been some accident, the school is closed.” Gradually the class got out of their seats and walked home. On the way home Max opened up the papers. One of them said they kidnaped me the other two were written in some strange code.

When Max got home he took a closer look at the papers;he realized that one of the papers was a code and each number replaced a letter of the alphabet like 1=a 2=b and so on. When he finished cracking the code it said, “in school”. The next day Max silently sneaked out of the house and went to Carter’s house. At Carter’s house he told Carter all about what he had discovered. ”I think that we should go to school,” Max replied. “All right,” muttered Carter. When they got there they found that all these other teachers were there too. Max had also brought the third piece of paper. He opened it up and suddenly he got a glance at something written. He could just make out the words saying each word is a paragraph. Suddenly he realised what it had been telling him. He looked through the pocket book he’d found in the principal’s office for the page and a paragraph that ended with teachers. If you put all the words together it said, ‘they kidnaped me in school, teachers!”

He went back with carter to the office where they both gasped. Sir Henry was lying on the floor bound up. Suddenly a voice from behind spoke. “What do we have here?” It cooed. Behind was one of the teachers with a badge saying, ‘golden island teacher’. “You kidnapped Sir Henry!”Max shouted. Carter and Max raced out of the school disappearing into the distance. When he got home his mum was furious “Where have you been?” she roared. “I found sir henry,” Max gasped. In the police station with just a dim light glowing above his head his mum reported what had happened to a tall unblinking man with a very bushy moustache. Max gulped as the officer loomed over him. He told the man all about his adventure and he knew that he was finally fine. By Caius

Day 37

“Why did I have to take the wallet!” Charlie shouted at himself while smacking his fists against his head. Charlie Evans had stolen a wallet filled with money, cards and a police badge. He didn’t mean to, it was right on front of him. His family were bankrupt. Charlie regretted it afterwards. He did not realise who it was until he turned around. It was the Head of Police. Now Charlie was on the run hiding in his dad’s old tent. He didn’t know what the time was but he thought it was about midday. Charlie reached backwards into the cool bag he brought and felt nothing but a banana peel at the bottom. He took it out and examined it. He stared at it about a minute. He looked like a curious monkey inspecting a phone. Like he didn’t know what it was, he threw the useless peel against the wall of the tent. He put his hand on his forehead, shielding his eyes and started to cry. His eyes burned with tears. How could Charlie Evans, a city boy survive in the Canadian forest with only a tent? “How could I do this,” thought Charlie. Charlie crunched up in a ball and went to sleep. Charlie woke up the next day with tears on his face, he sat up.“ I have to find food, but where can I find it. I can’t go too far away from the tent,” thought Charlie. Then he decided to stand up, went out the tent to look around. Then there just out of reach, just over the river, a berry bush stood. There on its branches bright red, juicy raspberries taunting him like bull fighters. “Well, I can get water on the way,” he shrugged happily. He jumped on a small rock sticking out the water then the next and the next, until he got to the other side. He reached the bank and turned around. He cupped some water in his hands and drank. He then happily ate the berries. They were the best he had ever tasted. The tangy flavoured syrup filled his mouth. He heard the small pitter patter of footsteps behind him. Charlie slowly turned around to face a small grey wolf. It started growling and bared its teeth. Charlie slowly reached down to his jacket pocket for a stick that he had sharpened with a rock, but it wasn’t there. He stepped forward and kicked

the wolf right in the legs and followed through to the face. It fell down and let out a soft squeal. When Charlie took a step forward, it jumped up and darted away. Everyday Charlie would cross the river and get some berries. At night he’d hear wolves howling and occasionally he heard owls hooting. He also had made little weapons and had already eaten a couple rabbits and fish. The best meals he’d ever tasted. Charlie was surprised he hadn’t seen a bear yet, that was his biggest fear when he entered the forest. He had also tied vines to make a trap that would drop a lot of sticks and logs when he cut it. He never thought it would be so easy, living in the forest. Until one day, the 37th day if Ch arlie was correct he was crossing the river, the current was the strongest yet. He stepped on a rock and it gave way under his weight. Charlie went under and his back smacked against the bottom. His thick brown hair thrashed in his face as he quickly got up for air. He was getting pulled away from his tent at an alarming pace. He tried to grab on to a log sticking over the water, but ended up smacking against it like a ragdoll. Then he saw his end, a rocky waterfall twenty feet away. Charlie tried to paddle the other way but it was no use. He smashed into the rocks and down the fall. A moment later he opened his eyes and was lying against a log in the river. It was like a barrier, letting nothing past but water.Charlie turned around and saw that the waterfall was only about two feet high. “All that fuss, over that?” laughed charlie. He heaved himself up onto the log and felt a fury of pain from his ribs and fell back in the water. He tried again and pain shot down from his ribs to legs. But Charlie kept going. He finally got up and started limping up the hill towards his tent. “ I have to get back to my tent, without getting spotted and leave,” thought Charlie. Then he heard the bark of dogs and voices shouting “Can you see him?” “No,” someone replied. “Eh, I've found a tent but nobody's here,..... over,” a croaky voice came from a nearby walky talky. “Police,” breathed Charlie as he got up and silently limped across the log, to the other side. Charlie had to get back to his tent, without getting spotted and leave. It was just like a game of cat and mouse. He slouched forwards to avoid being spotted and headed for the tent. He kept hearing voices and bark but kept moving. Then, suddenly a dog charged out of the bushes and pounced on him. He tried to fight it off but its weight was too much. All he managed to do was stop it from biting. He heard voices coming closer. With all his might Charlie kicked his legs and kicked the dog like a buckaroo. He felt his lip burst and spat out blood. Then he quickly got to his feet but at that moment the dog leapt on him again. He quickly got out his wooden spear and pierced the dog. It gave out a soft yelp and then lay, motionless on the ground. Charlie then turned and ran as fast as he could in the other direction. He tried not to limp or slow down. He headed south towards his trap where he could hide but when he got there he had already lost the police.

Then he felt hands on his shoulders, they felt weird almost fake. Then a sack covered Charlie face and was he was thrown into the back of a police car. Charlie woke up tied to a chair in a little room. The sound of knifes scraping filled his ears. “Where’s the wallet?” A quiet, calm voice came from the darkness. I-I don’t don’t have it,” quivered Charlie. He didn’t sound calm now. He clenched his fists and his mouth was twitching. “Now, I don’t want to hurt that handsome face. How old are you? 9? 10? “ The man asked. “I’m 13!” spat Charlie. “Do you wanna know a secret, that I've never showed anyone before?” asked the man as he stepped out of the darkness. He then put his hand on his cheekbone and pulled. Charlie covered his eyes but there was nothing to see but he had to see. A layer of skin came off to show a man completely different from the police officer. “Now let's discuss this over a cup of tea. I’ve told you my secrets, you tell me yours,” he exclaimed as he turned away. As soon as the man turned, Charlie reached into his pocket for his mini spear and cut the rope which had been tying his hands to his chair. He ran out and looked in a window. “It’s not nice to leave without saying goodbye,” a voice came from inside, as a face emerged looking grim. “Eh, I don’t think,” Charlie said with a hop as he turned around and ran. he didn’t know if it was the right words to say but it felt right. The man climbed through the window and followed. Charlie ran towards his trap and cut the rope as he raced under it. The man stopped and narrowly avoided death. “That wasn’t very nice,” he said. Charlie ran and skidded at the edge of a cliff. He turned around and stared at the trees. It was painfully silent, freakishly silent. Then he heard a car engine whirling and a red pickup truck emerged from the trees. Charlie pointed his head around furiously, looking like a meerkat looking for an escape root. Then something caught his eye. He looked back up the truck, it was still roaring at full speed at him. “It’s crazy but it might work,” he thought. Charlie jumped backwards and caught on to a root at the cliff edge. He looked up and saw the bottom of a truck pass over him as it spat dust in his face.He watched it go down to the ground fifty feet below. He climbed up and thought “Eesh, that would hurt,” then screamed aloud “ Ha, it worked, it actually worked!” He screamed doing a little victory dance. Charlie walked back to the little hut but when he got there he heard screaming. Low screaming, under him.Charlie wedged open a floorboard and found the real head of police tied to a chair with tape over his mouth. He was wriggling about like a worm. Charlie ripped off the tape and a mixture of pain and words filled Charlies ears. “That man, that man, he-he stole my face.He copied my face and made a mask. He pretended to be me. He-he stole me. Imposter! He was an-,” “It’s ok, It’s ok he’s gone,” said Charlie calmly. The police officer gave a sigh of relief and seemed a lot more calmed down. Charlie untied him and called for police to come.

A year later Charlie was back and safe and at home. The news had said they found a red pickup truck and tyre marks on a hill above. When Charlie heard this he had a smug grin on his face, but he never told anyone apart from the head of police. It was their secret. He had told his mum and dad why he ran away and part of what happened in the forest. He nearly told them about the stranger in disguise but it was too serious. His mum was furious and said he should be arrested. She also grounded him. His dad on the other hand was pleased that Charlie went for a little camping trip. He kept saying that it would toughen him up and that he’d be a great explorer one day. That was the first and last time Charlie was stealing something. Charlie still had the mini weapons he made in his room. He could tell his kids that one time in his life he survived in a forest for 37 days with nothing but a tent. The best, yet scariest 37 days of his life, especially the last. He would never forget day 37. By, Anthony

The Escape

“That man is eyeing us, I wonder why?” Bill asked Jake as they were going through the park on their way home. Soon the man with a sack was following them as quietly as the night sky. “I wonder if that man is still watching us?” Bill asked Jake. “Even worse, he is following us,” Jake answered with a slow and small voice. “Run!” Jake cried.

After a few quick bends and turns they reached a part of the park unfamiliar to them. “Oh look, here are some bikes, let’s use them to get away,” Jake panted. “How can we? That’s ‘stealing’,” complained Bill. Heavy footsteps reminded Bill and Jake that the man was coming closer. “Yes I’ve got them,” the man murmured to himself. “Hurry he is going to get us,” a scared Jake cried as they leapt on the bikes. They panted as they rode in the park at top speed. They were mountain bikes, which were very hard to control, and Jake knew how to ride them but it was going to be hard for Bill. Loud shouts and nasty growls were heard by Bill and Jake. Beads of sweat soon covered their foreheads. “This was a bad idea, Bill doesn’t even know how to ride, I shouldn’t have thought of the idea,” Jake told himself. Heavy footsteps were heard followed by loud growls the temperature dropped inside Bill and Jake, there was a pale face on Bill and Jake’s breathing couldn’t be heard. “I think the owners are chasing us,” a terrified Bill moaned. “I also think that the man is a kidnapper,” he exclaimed. The chills were felt and the laughter of the devil was heard in Jake’s mind. There

was a nasty feeling in Jake claiming that something dreadful would happen. Soon Jake’s heart beat was faster and the temperature seemed to drop. Crash! Bang! “What was that?” Jake asked Bill with a pale face and a slow, quiet voice. There was no answer.

Bill tasted blood in his mouth and a clouded vision set his mind into a daze. “ Where are my glasses?” Bill asked himself. “Bill! Are you okay? How did you fall off the bike?” came a shaky voice from Jake. Jake helped Bill to his feet, Bill was still trembling. Let’s ditch the bikes and run instead,” decided a terror struck Bill. “Run,” Jake shouted. “Is he gone?” panted Bill, looking scared. The boys heard heavy footsteps followed by a lunge from the man, which missed them by a hair's length. Suddenly Jake had a great idea. “Call the police with your phone,” Jake told Bill with an excited face. Bill checked his pockets but they were empty. From the look on his face Jake could tell that he had lost it. “How?” Jake asked angrily. “I think when I fell over, my pocket was empty after that,” replied Bill with a guilty and shaky breath. “Well that was a fat lot of good.” They were nearing the exit of the park when Bill suggested, “ let’s run in the streets, so it would be harder for the kidnapper to catch us,” “Okay,” came a reply.

Hoot, Hoot, Beep went the noisy traffic in the busy New York city evening. The two kids were relieved. “Well that was very close,” a happy-faced Bill whispered to Jake. Behind them they suddenly heard a deep growl. “Uh Oh,” Now this was too much for Bill. “Run!” cried Jake. They dodged through the alleyways and streets receiving strange looks from strangers. All of a sudden they heard a high pitched whistle, which came out of nowhere, followed by a cheery voice saying, “come here Sam, come here Bob, it’s fine they left our bikes.” The man with a sack was gone and so were the owners and the dogs. “That was lucky,” trembled Jake. “Yeah, lets go home.”

My Story of Being a Bully (Not Based On Real Events) “Ouch!” Dan screeched out as Michael did another uppercut to Dan’s stomach. Dan felt like he was going to vomit as he was getting ready for the next move. Boom! Dan kicked with all the rage and power he had. Michael got knocked back. “You just made a huge mistake,” Michael shouted as he went for a knee, but Dan dodged. Then Dan whispered “No, you just made a huge mistake.” Then Dan kicked him in the chin and finished it off with an elbow. As the bell rang all the children went to their classrooms except the bullies. The bullies yelled, crying out with laughter, “You got beat up by Dan you wimp.” They walked carrying Dan on their shoulders like he was a king. The next day Michael sat next to the other bullies. “Go away you loser Ha Ha Ha” giggled the bullies. His eyes were on fire as he walked away slowly with a frown on his face. After lunch he went to the nerds. “Ha Ha you’re a loser. After all the things you’ve done to us we’re not going to be your friends. He felt like a ghost. As soon as Michael arrived home he rushed to his room, He slammed the door shut. Michael was trying to find a plan to win his friends back. The idea of doing it was an embarrassment so then he planned it out.

In the morning he went to go buy the items for the plan.He felt like a knight in shining armor as he walked into school (he knew Dan was going to be late for class). The bell rang. Dan was walking into class, “okay here’s my chance,” Michael vowed to himself, shivering, biting

his lip. Michael took the items out of his bag and splashed them all over Dan’s trousers so it looked like he had wet wet himself. The whole class saw it and laughed, even the bullies. “Why did you have two random water bottles in your bag?” Dan cried out. Michael came in and sat in his chair as one of the bullies said to him, “that was sick. You wanna be our friend again?” “Maybe,” Michael chuckled as all the bullies laughed, then Michael responded in a serious voice, “but no beating up people.”

Friendship or Forgiveness?

“What?!” yelled Floss with a puzzled and startled look on her face. Her spiteful words flung straight at her parents, Fiona and Albert. “We’d thought you’d be happy” mumbled her father. “You seemed lonely sitting your room listening to music” whispered her mother. “No! I was fine on my own. But getting me a friend, that’s taking things too far.” “Especially ADOPTING one. I’m going to look like a flunk in school,” she wailed in a spoilt way. Floss’s face was growing hot, her heart started beating faster and faster, her mind was whirling around. She knew that if she told anyone at school the news would spread as quick as light. Floss banged the door open and slammed it shut, then let her weight droop out of her onto her bed. Bursting into a river of tears, her long bronze hair covered her face like seaweed. All too soon it was Saturday, the day of the new arrival, and Floss sat coldly in her armchair staring at the ceiling sighing heavily. She was alone. It wasn’t surprising, her parents wanted it to be a ‘surprise’. “Ding Dong” Floss reluctantly heaved herself out of the armchair. She was now breathing heavily, clicking her bright green nails, hoping for the best. She dragged the door open, her mouth suddenly dropped, and a shocked look plastered on her face. What she saw in front of her was not what she was expecting. “Mum who is this?” asked Floss “This is Betty darling,” answered Mum The girl on the doorstep midnight coloured hair was flowing in front of her ghostly face. Covering her body was a plain ruffled black shirt with striped fingerless gloves. She also wore ripped black jeans and a scratched neon pink pair of All Stars.

Floss stubbornly led Betty to her room, which would be opposite Floss’s room. Goosebumps erupted on Betty’s arms, she kept muttering the words over and over in her brain: It’ll be alright, It’ll be alright. But she knew deep inside that she was not welcomed by Floss, only her parents. The reason she knew that Floss didn’t welcome her was because she was a foster, or to rephrase that, an Emo foster. Since she was adopted it would mean ruining Floss’s reputation. But Betty’s real dear mother had died in the Shek Kip Mei Fire in Hong Kong whilst she, Black Betty, was still at home in Urls, Paris, meaning she was left with her Dad. When she was five her father couldn’t look after her anymore so he sent her to the Madame Tosches Royal Academy for foster children. Betty never liked him that much, he was always off somewhere, mostly at meetings. So she never got to see him often. The next morning Betty rolled out of bed, changed and paced downstairs. Along the way she met Floss. “Morning girls,” said Fiona cheerfully. “How was your sleep last night Betty?” questioned Fiona. “Good,” mumbled Betty the first time in two weeks she had spoken. “What would you like for breakfast Betty,?” But before she could answer Floss was ahead of her. “We have decided that we would like an english breakfast!” “What? I never said that,” whimpered Betty “Floss we need to speak to you,” “Just a moment Betty,” Floss and her Mum, left the dining room into her parents room where her dad was reading ‘The Roman Times’. Floss started to pant heavily like a dog. She knew what she was up against, deep trouble. “Floss there are two things we need to speak to you about,” said Fiona. “One, the way you speak and respect Black Betty is not good.” “Respect her, she is just like you, how would you feel if you were adopted and you had to live with someone else and their child was being mean to you?” said her mum angrily. “I’m sorry mum, I promise that I will change my behaviour,” said Floss crossing her fingers behind her back. Fiona’s mood started to die down leaving her in a much more controllable mood. “Two, you're turning 10- two- digits. Your dad and I were wondering if you wanted to have a birthday party?” said Fiona softly. “What?! Really, can I have it at home and invite all my friends?” yelled Floss excitedly. “Yes, but me and your father know that you won’t like what I am going to say next; Betty has be invited.” Floss started clenching her fist, the blood inside her bubbling then she bellowed “No No No, I am not having her at my party!” The door was a creak open so all the noise was flowing through so Betty knew what they were talking about, her. Her face was getting red and hot and her eyes started swelling as tears filled her eyes.

The music was blaring, everyone was having a great time at the disco party. Everyone except for one person, Betty. Everyone was staring at her, with the ‘look’. Her eye started blurring, the gaze of light from the disco shone straight at her, revealing her real self. Nobody would come close to her; like she had some bacteria that they could catch and die. She didn’t join in any of games they played for she thought that they were stupid and she didn’t get invited by the birthday girl to play the games. “Everyone everyone it’s time for the cake and time to open presents,” Floss said foolishly. They all sang happy birthday. Suddenly Betty realised that something was wrong, there was not a birthday cake! Floss had realised too, she burst into a heap of tears. Betty, not knowing why she had done so, rushed out the doors, zoomed to the one and only place that would save the Birthday Party. ‘The Bakery’. “Hello child what would you like from our cake menu?” asked the waitress. “A super-double chocolate fudge with raspberry sauce on the sides and melted marshmallows on top, thank you!” exclaimed Betty. She was hoping that Floss would like the choice she chose. “One coming right your way!” the waitress said cheerfully. When the cake arrived B. Betty paid the money for the cake and hurried off making sure not to mess up the cake or even ruin it! When she arrived back at Floss’s party she strode straight, in not caring who was looking at her. “Oh Betty where on earth have you been?” Fiona demanded. Not answering, she placed the cargo on a free table, then unwrapped it. Suddenly all the faces lit up and Floss got up from where she was weeping and came to see what all her friends were crowding around. Inside Floss loved it but she didn’t want to let Betty know. Incase any of her friends started disliking her. “I hate this cake, who got it?” objected Floss brutally. She knew what she had just said was wrong and it would hurt Betty’s feelings. Betty was taken aback by what Floss had just said. She started blushing, not with embarrassment but she looked like a fool not knowing what type of cake Floss liked. Now she was beginning to hate Floss even more that she did before. Friendship or Forgiveness? You answer.......... By: Athena

Chinatown Wars II “Of all the stupid idiotic people in the world!, what on earth has gotten into you!,why did you throw that stuff overboard? Huh Tagbot?” screamed kenny, boss of the Triads, One of the biggest gangs in the city. “Someone told me, and I thought it was you!” Tagbot screamed back at kenny.

T

B hated kenny, he was always ordering people around like they were robots. “All that cost, what, TEN GRAND!!!!!! I can't believe you just Threw ten grand right in the water. Tagbot you witless fool! You're gonna get out and get your fat butt to Ammunation and buy that lot back!....NOWWWWWW!” “But sir, 200 miniguns is quite a lot!” whinged TB. This time TB was really mad at kenny. He thought TB had all the money in the world. Well , he did have a lot of money. “Then you I guess that you better start earning!” sneered kenny. “Now get out of my face!”

T

B raced to his room like someone had stuffed a rocket up his butt and he sat on his diapalated bed while stripping down to a pair of DJeans. He slumped on his bed and cursed kenny. He reached up to his travel drawer and looked into its contents. He saw a key for a turismo comet that he stole and a key for a ordinary cognoscenti that he had had for 2 years. He also saw a map, his driver licence, his passport and a Garmin V-5 SAA GPS. TB knew that SAA GPS stood for special acute accuracy Global positioning system version 5. TB also knew that he hated kenny, he would jump at the first chance to assassinate him. He fished out the GPS and the pair of Turismo keys wishing to arrive in style. He threw his GPS and the pair of keys on his bed.

T

b started to play around with the GPS satellite system so it wouldn't be

tracked by any sort of radar. Then he began altering the Turismos key function so it would set it alarm every 4th time it has been activated. TB cursed fancy cars as he a tiny blast of electricity shot through his body. He went to his samsonite safe a took out 30 Grand. in 5 Grand stacks tied together with reinforced rubber bands and stuffed them in his Nike sports bag. The GPS sounded like it was fully charged so he set the route to AMMUNATION.

H

e got there and parked his car in a concealed alley. He ordered 200 miniguns. The clerk who looked like he was drowned in beer muttered “15 grand, brother.” “What!!!” screamed tagbot. “I thought it was 10 Grand!” “Bad news, brother,” the clerk muttered. TB thought about stealing it all but a message flashed on his IPHONE 5

TB took 15 Grand and slammed it onto the table. Kenny had tricked him! He knew he would do this. He placed the order through to his apartment and went out the door. 5 people in black leather jackets went up to him and asked him whether he wanted to join the Angels of death, a gang. “Sorry, but i’m already with the Triads” replied TB “Come on man, you don't want to be with them, I mean we bike and everything they just sit around stealing stuff and setting up turf wars. We rock They stink, Be with us man” They answered aggressively “I’ll think about it, Give me your address.” asked TB “24 Brotherhood road, Schottler, industrial. How ‘bout yours?” asked the men “13 scrawer road, Cerveza heights,Liberty island. What's your phone?” asked TB “203 685 741 700 469” replied the biggest of the five. “569 481 992 742 306” crowded TB. “Okes, Bye.” replied one of the gang members Romping off on chopper motorbikes.

T

B thought “wow, I got a offer to join a gang which hate the Triads, maybe they'll let me assassinate kenny.” TB thought with glee watching how the new gang will be like

“Well done Tagbot, 200 miniguns is a lot!” complemented kenny “Great, now i'm 15 Grand in the hole, also I met this cool gang on the way called Angels of Death that I sorta want to join.” asked TB “Yeah, you join them and i’ll use these mini guns on you.” screamed kenny TB clenched his fist while tracking a few explosives on the table they were sitting and armed them, they would explode when they would get a signal from the Garmin SAA GPS V-5.

H

e took off and walked all the way back to his apartment and stashed his GPS. he then took his archos smart home phone and set his router, the ooma base and set it so it was untraceable. He dialed pizza hut and ordered a big anchovies pizza.

H

e then called Angels of Death . “hey, um guy from AMMUNATION?, anybody there?” TB asked “Oh, its you, decided to join us?” replied a familiar voice. “Just the opposite, what happens if I don’t join you?” a warily TB asked “ Oh you'll be run over by us” a cheerful voice replied “Okay i'll come over” replied TB reluctantly as he hung up His whole body shook as he pictured himself getting run over by one of those humongous motorcycles. suddenly The doorbell rang and TB went to get it. It was the Pizza. he shoved the money at the pizza delivery person. He munched his pizza and walked out the door.

H

e took a hint from the AOD members and climbed up to his travel drawer. He took out his cognoscenti keys, The GPS, and his driver licence. He walked out and got into his cognoscenti. He turned the keys but it wouldn't start. He yanked the keys out and tried again it started and he drove off through the road. The GPS high quality definition graphics were clear. He reached there in a matter of minutes thanks to the specialised satellite navigation to narrow it down to the shortest legal route. In his heart he was actually pretty nervous joining a new gang but TB acted cool just in case the gang didn’t like him.

H

e walked to the wall and went behind it. He saw a cohort of people on motorbikes and a ramp. There was one motorbike left. somebody signalled him to come sit down there. he sat on the motorbike it felt cool. “so if you want to join our gang you better be able to bike” shouted the gang leader. his bald head and bushy moustache was intimidating. TB trembled, he didn't know the first thing on how to bike. he put the bike into gear and tried to do a burnout. He didn't know where he learned to do it but he didn't learn well. we took off tires squealing. He fell off the bike and crashed into the base of the ramp.

“looks like you’ll needa little practice if ya wana be a wannabe. Heh Heh Heh.” chuckled The boss of AOD.

T

B slumped on the way home. He went to the gas stations and fixed up a few molotovs and stashed them in his Nike sports bag he got into his cognoscenti and put to molotovs in the tiny glove box he ran out and kicked the section of the glove box. The molotovs exploded and knocked TB off his feet. He ran away to a taxi stand and ordered the taxi driver for him to go to cerzava heights. After the trip he stuffed the money into the drivers face. “I know just what to do.” muttered kenny with a sly grin “uh... what?” questioned TB “we'll set up a turf war with them of course!” giggled kenny thinking that TB will already know that. “but how?” A worried TB asked “ you’ll see...” chuckled kenny.

T

B was standing in the middle of two whole, armed gangs. “Its either us or em” boomed Archal boss of the AOD. “ us!” screamed Kenny. TB slowly walked to the Triads. “you'll pay for that ya little brat!” boomed Archal. The triads armed their miniguns and started rapidly firing at the motorist. TB sneakily walked to the motorist and heaved the remaining molotovs at them. The gang didn't give up and sent in motorist with carbine rifles to start firing at the front row of people. bullets, rockets and punches were flying all over the place and people were getting killed by the minute. soon the intact gangs heard the whine of police cries and focused their fire at them, not wanting anybody to interfere. It looked like the triads were winning. Suddenly some motorist came out of nowhere and heaved RPGs on a birch post. they loaded it up and fired. The triads dived for cover and yelled out something in french that TB couldn't understand but he knew it wasn't good. then suddenly a fleet of triads came rampaging down madly throwing molotovs as they Chanted out “TRIADS!”. TB couldn't believe his eyes. he started a turf war all on his own. This would make him a legend.

THE END! By Oliver

The Luck of Adoptions “No!” bellowed Abigail to her ungrateful parents. “It’s for your own good,” demanded her mum. “We can’t look after you properly!” “Help,” Abigail screamed into the open air. Abigail was pushed into the crowded reception of the adoption centre. Trying to stay strong, Abigail could not help but to cry. “How can I help you madam?” Ruby the headmistress asked in a very polite voice. “You can call me Jade, Abigail’s mother,” Jade grunted, “And this is my husband Mark!” “This is our daughter Abigail,” Mark added while pointing at Abigail very impatiently. “Ok so you want to give her to me and fill out these forms, please,” Ruby demanded. “Mum, Dad, don’t do this to me!” Abigail mouthed to her parents as she was pushed into a little room with blue walls and a girl covered in dust named Emily. “Excuse me, Ruby we are done,” Mark chuckled. “Ok good, now I will never see you again....Hopefully, Bye!” Ruby wailed. Abigail’s parents left without even saying good bye. In the room that Abigail was sitting in there was a conversation between her and herself trying to work out what to say to Emily. Seconds before Abigail was going to say something Emily asked, “Why are you here?” Abigail’s reply went silent as night. She tried to say things but nothing came out. “I have been here for four years!” Emily replied to her own question. “It’s the worst adoption centre in the world; Ruby says it was a hit in the old days and it was called ‘Adoption For Girls’ but now it is called Ruby Mampar’s Girl Adoption Centre, I’m guessing you know who Ruby is. “I do,” Abigail said while nodding her head. “How did you live in this cold dark room for four years?” Emily shrugged. The night slowly rolled in as they chit chatted away. “Hi I’m Jane, and I’m looking to adopt a girl between the ages of 7 and 11.” Hours of the day went past very slowly and other people came to adopt but no one took a glance at Emily nor Abigail. After a long night sleep Ruby shouted, “Emily, someone is here for you!” “Coming..,Bye Abigail.” Emily cried. “Bye,” Abigail moaned. “Emily.” Ruby screamed “Emily come here right this minute. “Coming,” “Emily, no,” Abigail whimpered. Emily left before she could hear another sad word from Abigail.

As the morning slowly rolled in Abigail could hear the birds chirping. The wind slowly made it into Abigail’s room leaving a shiver down her spine. As she fell asleep one more time Ruby squealed,“Abigail Nalgene.” “Yes, Ruby,” Abigail answered. “I have been calling you for 20 minutes and you have not been responding.” “Look you stupid ungrateful, bad breathed monster, I really don’t care about you or what you have been saying. Stop being an idiot who knows everything!” Abigail babbled in her most sophisticated voice. “How dare you Abigail? You may never be adopted!” Ruby stampeded as her blue cheese hair swung back and forth so close that it hit her in the face now and then. Don’t stampede, only elephants do! Abigail thought to herself. The afternoon came quicker than light. As Abigail slowly walked into the kitchen for lunch her thoughts got interrupted by some bullies,“Hey, Abigail you have been here for three years, that's sad isn't it?” “Whatever wild pelicans!” “Next time don’t interrupt me while I’m talking to myself!” Abigail screamed......in her head. Even though she knew that they were right. Abigail went back into her room a few minutes later. After about an hour Abigail shouted, “Help!” She trembled as she threw herself onto the bars of her room. The only thing that was going through her mind was her mother saying; It is for your own good, It is for your own good! Her stomach turned as fast as lightning as her eyes watered. Her mind tossed and turned. Maybe I should go, just maybe. I should leave. I hate this place. It is still the mouldy hay that was here three years ago. Abigail wished that there was a way to get out but then she remembered the crack. Tomorrow night she would let her spirit run free. Abigail’s face lit up when it was time. She used her hands as a hammer and pulled the wall out. Her brownish-black eyes turned blue as a frozen lake. Her hair seemed to brighten up but her skin turned darker as she kept on going. She knew that she should not be doing this at all. Jade and Mark her parents would not be happy but they weren't her parents anymore. ‘BANG!’ The blue wall fell. “Yes!” Abigail shouted at the top of her lungs. She quickly scrambled out of her room. Abigail dashed all night to find shelter. “I should not have done this.” Now Ruby is going to be looking for me and if she finds me I will literally not be allowed to get adopted. I’ll be called Abigail Nalgene the runna wayer. This has totally BACKFIRED. ‘Abigail Nalgene why did you do this?’ Abigail waited in a faded coloured abandoned playground for the whole night. She waited days for something good to happen. Abigail scavenged for food and ate whatever she could find. The next day when Abigail woke up she saw that there was a family playing on the slide. She went over and asked, “Can I play?”

“Sure hon!” A voice muttered. “Where are you from? Are you lost?” “No,” Abigail said while shaking her head. “Who is here with you?” The voice asked. “No one, I live here by myself,” Abigail groaned. “Oh!” The voice replied in an asking way. “I ran away from the adoption centre.” “Really?” “I’d like to adopt you,” “Are you sure?” Abigail asked in happiness. “Yes!”answered the voice. “You can call me Flade, but in this case you can call me mum!” Abigail’s face lightened even more. This was her new mum. “Do you promise to never, send me to the adoption centre?” Abigail asked. “NO.” Flade replied as she pulled out her phone and dialed 9888, the phone rang and rang, someone picked up, “Do you have her?” “Yes, I do.”

Life Changing Camp

“ We need to make Duncan go to camp,” Mum pleaded in a soothing voice. “It will give him a great chance to mix with other kids and you never know there may be some kids just like him,” Dad yelled to her from the living room because they knew that Duncan was afraid of just about everything but his parents. ”George, even when he get’s home he needs someone to open the door for him.” “Hi Mum I’m home, can I have a scone?” “What’s the magic word?” “Hokus pokus” “Yes honey” “Thanks, do you know where my rubber gloves are?” yelled Duncan from the living room. “ I’ll get them. I’ve been keeping them on the top of the fridge. Oh and we need to talk to you about camp.” Duncan had been thinking about camp. He was thinking about if he did have to go then he might buy a super clean plastic indestructible human-sized hamster ball to enclose himself from everyone else because if he did have to go then he would have to keep as clean as he could because he is scared of getting germs and his mum does not want him to get dirty. But where was he going to get one of them? His only choice was to use Amazon or ebay and then put it through 10 hot wax car washes. He grabbed his rubber gloves and took his laptop out of the safe that the FBI made for him.

His other choice was to act like he was having a panic attack and then he would not have to go to camp and sleep with those other boys and have showers in the same room when other boys might see his winnie the pooh underwear. “Duncan, we need to talk. Oh and it’s dinner time and we’re having lasagna and veg.” “Ok, one sec. Can you please get me my gloves?” Duncan knew they would have to talk to him about camp, but he knew that he was not under any circumstances going to camp. “Honey, we’ve been talking about you going to camp.” “Yes I Know” said Duncan in a hasty voice “I know I am not going.” “Actually you are, you are going tomorrow.” Duncan’s face went as pale as snow in the middle of Antarctica, “you can’t be serious” “we’re dead serious so you better get packing. The bus is coming at eight in the morning here’s your list of stuff you need to bring so you better be quick because you need some sleep too.” after dinner he went on to amazon and searched indestructible super clean humansized hamster ball. After 20 minutes of searching on amazon he could not find one so he decided he was going to pretend that he was having a panic attack “7 :15. 7: 15.” That robot alarm clock was the worst idea he ever had; now every morning that’s the first voice he hears. It was the dreaded time for camp. Duncan looked at his alarm clock and had 45 minutes to get dressed and get to the door. But he just lay in bed and called for his Mum. She came up and Duncan just lay their stiff. “Honey what’s wrong?” “I think I’m having a panic attack.” “George” Duncan’s having a panic attack. “Coming.” “Bye honey, have a good time at camp.” After about 10 minutes the people that signed up for camp all got to the campsite the campsite where we got off the bus.Right infront of duncan there was a muscular ginger-haired man standing right in front of me. ”Alright kiddies, stand in a straight line with your hands behind your head, now you're going to stay in with your hands behind your head until we get to the campsite. and then we shall start our activities “ “You know your groups don't you?”

“Yes sir” shouted the children sharpley “Right lets head to the campsite and then we will start activities“ When duncan got the campsite the first thing duncan had to do was set up duncan tent and it was a nine man tent and from our tent space to the kitchen there were a lot of stairs so we had to make a big chain but there was a problem because the whole of year 6 did not sign up for camp. What everyone that did sign up had to do was when the last person had nothing to give to the next person then we would make the first person run up to the top of the stairs and then he would be able to pass it on. But there was an even bigger problem; the coach with all the bags had not come yet and the bus with all the luggage had not come yet so I did not have my rubber gloves did not have my rubber gloves and I was so scared that maybe the coach had crashed and I would never get my clothes and my rubber gloves back so I would have to sleep on the mat and in a sleeping bag that someone else might have slept in. I might also get a rash because it might not be cleaned with the cleaning material that my mum cleans my stuff with. ”Uh excuse me sir I can not help with the chain” “What do you mean you can’t help; are you lazy or something. You can't lift the mat that’s what it is. All you've lifted is teacups!’” Mr Screwdriver boomed with his spit flying. I should have worn my masked hat I thought to myself. “No sir I have OCD” “What’s that?” “Sir it means obsessive–compulsive disorder so I only touch stuff with my rubber gloves.” “Well then you'll have to do without them !!!” “No sir, look here comes the bus so can I get my bag?” “Yes, but hurry” So I ran for where the bus stopped. “Beep beep beep” the bus door opened and then the man threw out the bags and I saw mine. I ran as fast as I could to it and then I opened it, grabbed the gloves and put them on and joined the chain. After 20 minutes of that we had to learn to put up a tent which took about 30 minutes. By then it was time for dinner. For dinner we had mashed potato and sausage and had to choose our tent groups. I was chosen to be with the weirdest group and alot of the people were picking their noses. I had to sleep 2 cm away from them so I had a nervous breakdown and started to cry my eyes out and my Mum had to come out to the campsite. She had a big chat with me and talked to me about getting over my fear of touching stuff and people.

The next day I tried the whole day without my gloves and I actually felt really nice. Feeling the texture of everything felt really good, so for the next few days I didn't use my gloves and I got over my ocd and I am no longer scared of touching stuff. That was my experience at what I thought was a life-changing camp.

Haunted Story Harry and Sally were on there way back to the home. “Lets take the shortcut!”Harry suggested “I don’t like it, it’s scary, slimy, and disgusting, but not only that, there our insects crawling around so I say no!” said Sally “Come On!!!” Shouted Harry “Fine!” Mumbled Sally They took the shortcut, But then suddenly a man who had a sack empty and a long string stroock to us as he was a leopard and we, well his a food! He put us in a sack, he tied our feet and hands together then cut off the string and he used the rest to tie the sack . He tied it so tightly it was like we were rapped or squized by a snake. The van roared as i it was a lion.“HELP,” Harry Shouted out loud. The van moved, It was faster than a leopard maybe two times faster. He was doing as best as he can to get out of the sack. He remembered that he had a bag so he checked if he had his pencil case, he did, the van didn’t stop, so quickly he got out his scissors as quickly as he could. He cut a humongous hole on the sack and went out. There village was getting far and far until it became tiny and vanished. Sally was shivering with fright and frozen like a iced ice cream. “Will we be able to get back home?”Sally asked “We will!”Promised Harry But Harry wasn't sure if they could, he was thinking if we could die or get lost or something like that. They crawled down so the man can’t see them. Then the man stopped the van,Harry put the sack the other way so he can’t see the hole, Sally and Harry quickly went back in the sack through the hole. The man went in this weird mansion or some kind of castle, I felt scared. “Where our we?” Whispered Sally “I don’t know, but I’m sure that we’re going inside some kind of castle or something,” Harry whispered. The man put us on the top of the castle and went back to the van and drove off. He put us under a red table. Then Me and Sally froze to death as if we were in antarctica! “I don’t like it here, I, I want to get out of here” Sally Sobbed “Because what, anyways we our going to get out of here!” Shouted Harry Sally felt like a dead body not existing. Harry was frightened. CrEaCk. “Di, did you hear that,” Sally whispered.

“Hear what?” Harry whispered cReAcK “That” Sally Whispered Then suddenly Harry felt like something was pulling him. When he looked back, it was a long hand reaching from the creaking door . He screamed as if he was a girl. The hand grabbed Harry. “Sally help me!!!!!!!”He screamed . Sally’s heart was beating fast, she didn’t know what to do. She randomly got a brick from a cracked floor. She throw it as hard as a gorrila to the hand. It hit it, the hand slithered back to the creaking door...Harry was relieved. Sally said“I was scared because I thought it was going to get me next!” “If you’re scared hold my hand and don’t let go” Harry said Harry was out of words, he said nothing I mean he didn’t want to speak. His head was cold and light blue. Doors were creaking from everywhere, insects are crawling all around, but Harry was desperate to get out so he didn’t give up. Then suddenly Sally was gone. she vanished like dust. Harry checked everywhere, then he found her. “Where were you??!!”shouted Harry. “Something pulled me...it might be that hand!”Sally whispered “NO EXCUSES! Come on lets keep going” Harry shouted. They went on, then they felt like they were followed. Harry turned around...nothing. But when turned around she saw something that she will never forget in her life...she poked Harry’s shoulder. It was a floating head that was following them!! They ran as fast as a cheetah. They found the exit. They ran out of the Castle, they ran until they didn’t see the castle. But it isn't a ordinary one, it was a scary, haunted, freaky, slimy, gooey castle. 3 DAYS LATER!!!!!! Harry and Sally were thirsty and hungry to death. They haven't eaten or drunk for 3 days! “I’m thirsty and hungry!” Sally mumbled. Harry wanted to say”Me too” but instead he said nothing and kept moving. Then suddenly Harry heard a rumbling noise from behind. He looked back, it was a...I didn’t know but he was sure that it was a vehicle. It came closer and closer. “Help!!” Harry shouted The truck came closer, it was about to go past them but instead it stopped. “What do you want?” The man said “We haven’t eaten or drunk for three days!” Said Harry

“Poor thing...hop on!” The man replied “We can!?” Harry was surprised “Yes, you can!” the man replied. So they went on, Harry told the direction to get back and he also looked at the sign to help him. Then they finally reached their village. Harry was thinking to himself”When we get home I would cry, be happy and scream I'm home!!!” While that Sally was thinking the same thing too but instead she would jump up and down and scream “I’m Home!!!!” Then they finally reached the village hopped off and said to the man “THANK YOU!!!” “You wellcome!” They quickly ran to their home and quickly said “We’re Home!!!!” “Where were you guys?”Said there mum and dad “Well its a long story....”Sally replied While that back to the kidnapper... “WHERE ARE THOSE BRATS I CAPTURED!!!!!!!”

The End! By: Yi Kin

!GLORIA! Hi, I’m 18 year old Gloria, I’m an ordinary schoolgirl doing my homework in my room. I’m alone in the pinky old house because my mum popped out with her friend Charlotte to the grocery store. Mum called me later in the afternoon. “ I’m going to sleep at Charlotte’s house because she wants me to see her parents.” I thought everything was going to be okay but it changed! I am really worried about my mum because she hasn’t come home for 3 and a 1/2 days. I tried to call her but she didn’t answer me. My next move was to go to my computer and turn on the news to the date of when my mum left home so I could find out if something bad happened that day that might have affected my mum. I never want to see again what I saw on the screen. My heart dropped into my lap and dissolved . There my mum was screaming and pushing, trying to get out of the arms of the police. She kept on crying out to the reporters and crowds around her that she hadn’t stolen the money from Charlotte, she had only borrowed it from her. Questions exploded in my head. “ Why would my mum do that?” In the end they pushed her into a police car and drove her to jail. From then I knew what I had to do, I had to go to court. First thing in my plan to get my mum out was to calm her down and tell her that she was going to be ok, so I went to the police station and talked to the police at the counter. “ Can I see Debra Morris? Thats my mum’s name.” He stared with confusion. “ Who are you?”he yawned. “ My name is Gloria Morris, daughter of Debra Morris,” I replied with confidence. He looked at me curiously and finally said, “ A girl like you might help your mother to escape so I’m sorry I have to make you leave.” I was shocked but I didn’t argue because I didn’t want to get into any

trouble. But I was really annoyed so I thought things through and decided on step 2 and 3 of my plan. Step 2 of my plan was to get a helper to look after the house and cook food because my mum was in jail and I can’t eat cereal for the rest of my life. Once I got that done I was ready for step 3, which was to go to court. I visited lawyers and I asked the people who worked there if there were any lawyers available but they told me they all had assignments to do. When I got home I knew that the new helper was here because his old looking shoes were on the welcome mat. I crept into the living room but all I saw was the flashing light of the T.V. and an old dirty Hobo on my fluffy white coach. He turned lazily and explained, “ Hello my name is Hobo Jo. I am your new helper. At your service!” My mouth opened with shock and don’t get me started on my eyes. I calmed myself down replied ,“ Can you do house related things?” “ Of course I can! Sitting on the couch is one thing.” He spoke with a loud voice. My eyes rumbled and exploded like a volcano. I shouted as loud as I could ,“ GET OUT!” But he refused to. Now I had no time to worry about that because I had to think about my mum and get the 3rd step done. I traveled by bus to the office of the courthouse where a person in an old black cloak greeted me. “ Are you Gloria Morris ?” He demanded . “ Yes” I replied . “ Well lets go to the courtroom ,” he continued with a deep voice I was as nervous as I was when I danced with the school top rugby player in the year. But it was different here because there were people who were really serious about the law and they were staring at me. I got up to the very front and the judge let me speak . “ Your loyal sir, my mother said she didn’t steal the money, she only borrowed it from Charlotte Jones the person you thought my mum

stole it from,” I carefully explained . After my little speech the judge took an awfully long time to think of what he would say, but eventually he said , “ You look desperate so I will let your mum free. I demand Gloria Morris’s mum to be freed from jail” “ YES, YES, YES !”I shouted while jumping high into the air. So when me and my mum got home the Hobo was gone, everyone was happy and everything was back to normal.

Dancing Queen “Higher, Lily! HIGHER!” I try to raise my leg higher, but it doesn’t move a centimetre. “I-I can’t! It-It’s too hard!” I reply, trembling. “YES YOU CAN!” Mrs. Beatrice grabs my leg and pushes it upwards. “AHHHHH!!!” I topple of the beam, falling right on Mrs.Beatrice. Mrs. Beatrice turns red, and then purple with rage. She pushes me off her tummy and dusts off her long, bony figure. “YOU’LL NEVER BE A DANCER, YOU’RE AN UTTER DISGRACE!!” My dance teacher storms out of the school gym, leaving me lying on the floor. I lie there for a second, thinking. Why can’t I be a dancer? Why can’t I? WHY? I sigh. I get up and limp with my badly hurt leg dragging behind me. I will never be able to do any better than I did today. Even if I try harder. As soon as I enter the house, I rush up the stairs, sobbing. I bump into Mummy putting the washing in the washing-up basket. She drops the basket on the floor. Mummy stares at me angrily. It seems like I can’t do anything right. I lie in my bed, blinded by tears. It grows dark. Mummy and Daddy must have gone to bed by now. I slowly get out of bed, not letting a single creak come out of my old bed. I can’t stop myself. I gaze out at the stars, and make a wish. I wished to be a dancer, a great dancer. “Lily....LILY!” I open my eyes. Mummy is staring at me. “Get up Lily, your dance lesson starts in an hour!” Mummy clucks. I get up. The sweet smell of devouring pancakes reaches my room. It is definitely a Saturday! I start to run down the stairs. “Wow, take it easy, Cheetah!” My Daddy roars at me. “Haha! Same as always, hippo!”I yell at him. “Oi!” He laughs. I feel so cheerful although I had been sobbing the whole night. Maybe I just needed to cry out loud for a change. I strangely remember my routine I was supposed to practice, and I actually tie my hair neatly. I sprint up the road to the dreaded dance lesson. I run faster than I ever did. I almost actually felt like a Cheetah! Instead of going through the gate into school, I actually jumped over it! When I arrive, Mrs Beatrice is on the phone to someone. She quickly puts the phone down, not wanting to share any personal details. “I see you are on time today.” Mrs. Beatrice says grimly. “Yes, I am. I want to try the beam again today.. please.” She thinks for a moment then gives in. “Oh, alright. You seem to be eager.” I jump onto the beam intently and can balance without a single wobble. Mrs. Beatrice’s eyes grow as big as basketballs. Alright here we go. I slowly lift my left leg up, not trying to rush. If I wobble I spread my arms out, and steady myself. My leg goes higher and higher- it reaches my head! I stick my arms out and stay in that position, for Mrs. Beatrice to stare at. I giggle. I lower my leg down, and bow at Mrs.Beatrice, as if I was performing in front of millions of people. “S-Surely you mustn’t be doing what you are doing right now?” Her French

accent spoils the moment. “Well, I don’t suppose that you can do an arabesque?” “I’m not sure...” “Oh, well you did what you couldn’t do yesterday- why don’t you just try?” I try and I actually do it. I scream out with joy! “Oh mon dieu! This can’t be possible! One day you were rubbish, couldn’t do anything, but now......”

I leave Mrs. Beatrice there, talking in fluent French to herself. “Wait, Lily! You are amazing me so much! I will book an audition for a dancing school in America. Let’s just hope this isn’t a dream!” I run down my road, squealing and jumping with joy. I can’t believe my luck! Can my wish actually have come true? My mind overflows with amazing ideas. When I get home, my cat, Tigerlily greets me happily from the front garden. She jumps up a few times, then scrambles over the gate. I kneel down to greet her. She pushes her tail around me, then suddenly snuggles right up to me, purring aggressively. Her ginger fur brushes against my jeans. Mummy and Daddy, hearing Tigerlily’s mews come rushing into the garden, finding me stroking her ginger and black fur. I get up, and quickly brush myself off. “Mum, Dad, and of course Tigerlily! I have brilliant news! I’M GOING TO AMERICA!!!” I squeal “We always knew you could do it! Dad and Mum chorus. I knew they didn’t always mean it. “MEOW!” Tigerlily cries, obviously not knowing what has been said. I grab my Mum and my Dad and we all join hands and skip happily round and round in circles, until our old, grouchy neighbor, Mr Pea, shouts, “STOP ACTING LIKE LUNATICS AND GO INSIDE!” So we do. Then the day comes. I give my parents and Tigerlily more kisses and cuddles than I ever did before. I feed Tigerlily her fish pellets and I make my Mum and Dad a cup of tea. Then I grab my bags and jump in a taxi with Mrs. Beatrice, not wanting to miss my flight to New York. Mrs. Beatrice gives me a surprise, when she says we are traveling in our own private jet. As soon as I set foot on the jet, I feel like a professional, famous, dancer. When we get to New York, I smell this faint smell of cookies and hot chocolate everywhere. People are walking around in expensive ski-gear, although there are no ski mountains. I’m the only one wearing a cardigan! We got into a weird yellow taxi- why aren’t they black? We stopped at the Statue of Liberty, and bought a souvenir. I bet Tigerlily would LOVE chewing it! After a hour or two drive, we finally get to the school. There are girls there, all looking about eighteen, except this one girl, who looks about ten, maybe she’ll be my friend. They all look so different from each other. The only thing they have in common is their leotard. They are bright lilac with a tiny bow on the side. Every girl’s hair is tied up with a blue ribbon. I suppose it is their uniform. Some girls had violet tutus on, others had tap dancing shoes. This is a multi-dance school. I go up millions of staircases and through a hall. On each side of the hall was a glass window, inside was millions of girls dancing to a routine in a gym. I think I might like it here! Now I am waiting here in a very comfortable, velvet, armchair. On one arm of the chair it says: Confidence is the Most Valuable of all Things. I wonder what this

means. Mrs. Beatrice is gabbling to me, telling me all the tips about dancing. Most of the things she says I already know, but I listen anyway. Tiny ballerinas are dancing around and around my stomach. I don’t think I will ever, not ever get into this school. “Reply politely, get in control of your slightest move, keep your balance, back straight... Lily... LILY ARE YOU LISTENING?” Mrs Beatrice exclaims, in one of her ridiculous snarls. Before I can answer, a rather glum looking lady opens the door and whispers, “Lily Feathers, age sixteen, the coaches are ready to see you now.” I take off my jeans and my boring New York T-shirt to reveal a bright turquoise, silk, leotard. Mrs. Beatrice spent half her money on it for me. I am trembling, but at the same time quite excited. “Go break an arm!” Mrs. Beatrice whispers. “Mrs. Beatrice, it’s break a leg!” I giggle as I leave the room. I enter a freezing cold room, smelling of very strong coffee. There are mirrors hung on every wall, making me feel surrounded by me’s. “Lily, darlin’, come over here so we can meet ya!” Says a loud, confident, little voice. I walk over to two people. There is a small, plump, little lady, enjoying some strong coffee, and a old man staring at me as if I was a pest. I did the best I could. The test was four hours, but it only felt like ten minutes. Now all my worries are getting in. I think I did well, but a dull, ordinary, girl like me would never get into a five-star rating all-dance school. I found myself asking Mrs. Beatrice a question. “Mrs. Beatrice, do you think I will get into the school?” “Well...well...” She mummers. I can see in her troubled eyes that she is saying no. My eyes glint in rage. “You know what, that’s it. THAT IS IT! I’ve had it. No one believes in me. Not you, not anyone....not even me! I may be hopeless, but it never hurts to be nice!” I cry, my eyes filling with tears. I feel a fire starting inside me. I don’t usually have a temper, but I have really have had enough. I want to turn into a huge dragon and burn all my enemies. The same lady that welcomed me in emerges. “Mrs. Beatrice, may I speak to you please?” “Of course.” Mrs. Beatrice grumbles. She gets up and walks over to the lady. This might be it, it might be my results! I just have to hear what they are saying. I hear things about failures, successes, glory, and expense. No, she can’t be saying I didn’t get in! I can’t really hear much, but I can hear those words. When they finish, Mrs. Beatrice walks slowly to me, with tears in her eyes. Can they be tears of sadness? No! They can’t be! I panic. Mrs. Beatrice doesn’t look too happy. Wait... Her frown is turning into a smile... yes, it’s a smile!!! Then Mrs. Beatrice screams loudly, “Bonnes nouvelles! Good News! You got in! Ha! I tricked you!” I must agree, she did scare me. But then I remember what she said... I got in!!! I

too, jump up and down until we are sent out of the room. So, days go by, training harder than I ever thought I would! It was a dream. I am the best in class. I learn things I never thought I would learn. I make a friend, Alicia. She was the same girl that I saw for my auditions. She is amazed that I was better than her, and how she had been at this school far longer than I had been. One day, I think I may have got a bit too full of myself. I signed up for this dance tv show called You Call that Dancing? I knew I could give them a show to look forward to. I woke up slowly on the day. I don’t feel my best. Not like I usually feel. I got out of bed and try a few stretches. I can’t even do the splits! That was not like me at all. What am I going to do? I simply must do the tv show! “Snap out of it Lily!” I yelled at myself “You can do this!” So I did. “And now, who ya have been waiting for, Lily Feathers! We may see her after the break.” The host bows and walks offstage. He smiles, “Are you ready to roll?” I shake franticly. My face turns blue and I stand there wobbling like anything. I wasn’t ready. “Y-Y-Yes.” “Is anything wrong? Are ya feelin alright? Don’t be nervous, kid!” He says calmly. “No.” I reply “Alrighty then!” The host walks off. Without my wish, I’m a nobody! I’m nothing. I can’t do anything! On this day, THIS DAY, it has to wear out. I’m doomed. I really am. “Lily! You’re on in 5...4...3...2.... You’re on!” The host beckons. Here goes nothing! I walk on. I begin my professional routine. I lift my leg upwards. I try to keep balanced, but I fall over. I’ve failed. I know I have. I try again. What is wrong with me? People begin to boo me. I can’t take boos. My parents, came all the way over to America to see the failure their daughter has become. They are looking very worried. I want to impress them desperately, afterall, they did pay for my expensive school. I remember who I am. I’m Lily Feathers, Queen of all Dancing... the Dancing Queen! I can do this if I really try! I try again. My leg this time really and truly touches my head. I never felt this feeling before. I carry on with my routine. It was a blast! I stop getting boos. Now I get claps and oohs and ahhs! I’m amazing! Better than I ever was. It’s confidence. My wish was never granted, because I already had it, but I didn’t have enough confidence to try! I understand now. Now I continue my life in the best dance school in world. Everyone at school calls me the Dancing Queen. Nothing will stop me being a dancer, forever.

Charlie Small’s Adventures Charlie was on spaceshooter. His fingers were tensed up and sweaty, “Highscore here I come,” he muttered to himself. “Go out Charlie, it’s a wonderful day,” his mum cried. “Fine,” charlie mumbled. As he strolled miserably to the storage door Charlie was drenched with sweat. He wanted to open it but something told him not to. However, he curiously opened it but nothing scary was there, so he heaved a breath of relief. Charlie did find an old raft there. “Mum can I use it?” he asked. “Yes you can, honey,” Mum replied Charlie climbed on the raft and said, “I’ve never seen that river before.” His eyes narrowed and he suspiciously looked at the river, heading downstream. After just a short while Charlie found a cave, where he went in it and shrieked, “AHHHH, oomph that hurt,” he groaned and suddenly a pain shot through his body that caused him to drag his leg across the floor. His arm was also bleeding. Charlie staggered out of the cave, and he found a grassland. “Why do they have a grassland in front of a cave?” he wondered. Charlie started to hop as fast as he could. “Hello! anybody there?” Then he stopped, went down on his knees and cried, “Why am I so lonely?” Tears dropped onto his hands and knees. Suddenly he wiped off his tears, got off his knees and screamed, “I’m a born survivor!” He took the leaves off and made a bed and some shelter. He made sure no rain could go through, and he looked up. “It’s pretty dark,” he shrieked because he was scared of the dark. He fell asleep while trying to keep awake. When he woke up everything was gone. A tear went down his cheek. “One more try,” he cried. His eyes were focused on the basket; he had sweaty hands but he had to open it. He opened it but nothing was there. He could finally breathe again. Suddenly a plastic material started to come out. It grew bigger, bigger and bigger until it finally turned into a hot air balloon and

Charlie said a big, “WOW!” He quickly jumped in and flew to the surface and jumped into his backyard garden. “MOM! I’m home,” he yelled. “How was it, dear?” Mum asked “It was great,” Charlie exclaimed with a grin from ear to ear. By Harrison

Catfish Hideout Lake “Get on the bus you slugs!” Emo wailed. She just wanted to get camp over and done with. As the last person jumped on the bus it started chugging up the grassy but barren hill and down again, passing two sheep with some lambs that were sitting underneath and a colossal oak tree, which was like a building block for squirrells. Suddenly, a car pulled out without looking, and bam! It hit right where Phoebe was sitting. She screamed out a bloodcurdling scream as she slumped shivering and bleeding all over. Her face had glass stuck in her skin and shards scattered all over her body. “Get this glass out of me!” Phoebe screamed in a jumpy voice. “Calm down Phoebe!” Ms. White bellowed from the front of the bus. “How in the world do you expect me to calm down when I have glass stuck in my skin? I’m in agony!” Phoebe shouted over and over. “I’ve got the first aid kit. I’ll clean her up,” added Emo. Emo got the antiseptic cream, bandages, plasters and tweezers out of the bag though it was hard to concentrate because everyone was laughing hysterically at Phoebe. ‘Zip it, you elephant monkeys!” Emo yelled out to everyone. “Can’t you see she is in pain. “It is like she has had jam and ketchup dripped all over her. Would you like it if that was you and everyone was laughing at you?” Emo got the antiseptic cream out and put it on the band-aids and plasters. Then she got the tweezers, pulled out all the glass and put the band-aids over the wounds. When another bus came to pick them up they were all eager to get on as they had been waiting for half an hour. The rest of the way to the campsite no one was really talking. It was like a group of cats came in and pulled out their tongues. Finally, Phoebe plucked up the courage to speak. “Thanks Emo, you really helped me.” Emo replied, “That’s fine Phoebe.” When they got to the campsite they put their bags in their dorm and went outside to see what they had to do. “Your first challenge is to cross that bridge. I will be removing the railings and you will not be able to see. One of you will be in front of the other guiding their partner across. There is a prize for whoever crosses the bridge without falling. So go put on your swimsuits and come back and get into a line but stand next to your partner. Ok,” Ms. White instructed. “Ok,” all the children replied. Pheobe and Emo unpacked their swimsuits and put them on. Phoebe's was a one piece, long sleeve and long pants. It was a baby pink and magenta colour and it was covered in daisy bushes. Emo’s was a two-piece shorts and a short sleeve rash top. The shorts and the top were black. The top had a white skull on it and the shorts had grey knives with red handles on them. They walked out to the end of the line. They started trembling and turning

pale green. Everyone started laughing at them not just because they were turning green but because of the monstrosities that were their swimsuits. They started examining the lake trying to ignore all their classmates. The lake was a algae green/forest green colour and every now and then you would see a raw umber catfish pop up to the surface and nip away at an oak leaf floating on the top of the lake. Phoebe and Emo watched the others fall into the murky depths of the so called ‘Catfish Hideout Lake’. It was like it only took two minutes until it was their turn. It was time for them to attempt to cross the dreaded bridge. The bridge seemed like it was a hundred years old. It was battered and broken and all the wood was moldy and soft. Phoebe put the mask over her eyes and waited for Emo to direct her across the battered and broken bridge. They started taking one step at a time. Snap! A plank snapped in half. The moldy plank sunk into the gloomy water. Phoebe's foot slipped and she fell smack on her back, but she was brave. She rose to give it another try. She took two steps at a time. Right, left, right, left. Crack! Another plank snapped but this time it fell on top of the poor catfish. After fifteen minutes it was over. They did it. "We finished. We got across the bridge!" Phoebe and Emo jumped for joy. "We won! "We actually won!" they yelled in unison. "Ok if you want to get the prize you have to do a bit more. You have to swap places and go back. If you fall off no one will get the prize," Ms White said, surprised as she thought no one would succeed. So they swapped and took one step at a time. They took deep breaths and after another twenty minutes it was done. They finished. They won the prize. "Can we have our prize now?" Phoebe asked. " Ok I'll get it," replied Ms White. The prize was perfect for them. It was a plant with little pink, white and yellow petunias. The flowers looked like they were smiling at Phoebe. They also got a black pencil case with a white skull on it. After that they enjoyed the rest of their five days of camp and everything they did. By Monty
