DREMA source of know-how for the industry Held under the auspices of EUMABOIS European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers, the Poznań-based DREMA has become a fixture in the calendar of specialist trade shows recognised by representatives of both woodworking and furniture production plants of different size. This trade fair owes its strong position on the international arena among others to the presence of exhibitors who are leading global manufacturers and suppliers of different sectors of the wood and furniture sectors in Poland and all over the world. DREMA is held under the auspices of the ministry of economy as well as the National Chamber of Commerce, which proves that companies producing furniture, windows, doors, stairs, floors and other wooden products make an essential part of the industry as a whole, and its development hinges upon access to state-of-the-art production technologies. And the latter will be in the centre of attention of visitors to the Poznań-based trade fair, where we are going to see both a sample of entire process lines for industrial use and a wide range of machinery dedicated to small and medium enterprises and craftsmen.

Live Furniture Factory a unique presentation During DREMA, there will be a one-of-a-kind show of furniture production resembling that in a regular manufacturing plant. Located on 2,000 sq m, this space will be filled with live machinery and equipment forming process units. This year, the Live Furniture Factory will manufacture bedroom furniture, whose design has been selected in a special competition. A set of bedroom furniture comprises a bed and a pouffe along with supplementary furniture, namely a chest of drawers and bedside tables. Like last year, the design and technical documentation will be provided by M.A. students of the Department of Furniture Design at the Faculty of Wood Technology of the Poznań University of Life Sciences. The factory will feature a technologist workstation equipped in a preconfigured production management support system managed by the students of the Poznań University. An opportunity of face-to-face meetings with key business partners and a visit to a model furniture factory are not the only highlights prepared by the DREMA organisers. The Drema Skills Boot Camp will offer presentations of machinery for surface preparation and application of protective coating used in furniture production. On every trade fair day, visitors will have an opportunity to try out tools and equipment presented at the Skills Boot Camp under expert supervision. The Parquet Floor Laying Workshop… live, with presentations of parquet measurement, processing and finishing techniques is bound to be an attraction for professional visitors. Experts will provide valuable advisory on parquet floor laying. There will be presentations for students of construction and woodworking schools, as well.

Charm of Detail the best of the best The trade fair will also include a new edition of the Charm of Detail, a special conference and exhibition area that focuses on details, patterns and innovative concepts of functionality along with design of furniture collections. This is already the seventh edition of the exhibition where companies-partners will showcase products they consider their hits. You will see them when taking a walk through a maze of presentation booths. An integral part of the Charm of Detail will be the Knowledge Zone, with lectures and presentations and workshops on sales techniques in general.

Competitions and many others The 10th Polish Championships in Nail Hammering will be held during DREMA. It is a competition that consists in hammering 3.5inch nails into a square timber with five hammer hits, a great fun for all visitors who wish to try their hand. „Conjured from Wood” is a competition addressed to students of secondary schools that specialize in woodworking. The task for the competitors is to produce either from wood or wood derivatives an original object that has never been commonly made from this material before. The entered works will be displayed at a special exposition, along with an exhibition of unique historic woodworking machinery and equipment featuring many valuable and exceptional exhibits.

Furniture Factory Live! – technology descriptions AMATEC Pegasus EXT 3216H-45P1-574K-3X5/PL150 5-thread, 2-needle industrial overlock sewing machine with a differential bottom feed and alternating top feed system, designed for sewing heavy-weight fabrics; high foot lift; heavyduty knife for fabric trimming; electropneumatic foot lift. The EXT-series overlocks are the most advanced machines of this type in the market, offering an independently driven top feed system, and guaranteeing interference-free settings of top and bottom feed systems. During the upcoming FURNICA 2011 we will see the 7th edition of the CHARM OF DETAIL exhibition. Its previous editions were each devoted to a specific topic, and so we had „Kitchen Inspirations”, „Light and Colour”, „Colours of Relaxation” or „Kitchen from the Inside”. One thing they all had in common was a consistent focus on the ‘get inspired’ concept.

CHARM OF DETAIL 2011 is going to be slightly different: this year’s exhibition will present products partner companies consider their ‘hits’. And you will see them when strolling down the walkway that takes you through Organiser:

a maze of presentation booths. A dynamic installation will be placed above the entire exhibition. It may seem a bit enigmatic on the whole, but it is bound to be impressive. An integral part of the Charm of Detail will be the conference room, where – like every year – there will be lectures and presentations from companies and „The latest trends in marketing communication” workshop held by Marek Borowiński, Ph.D. This training is going to demonstrate how to stand out from the competition through effective marketing communication, thus increasing sales.

This is the eighth time we will „conjure”

For a couple of years now, together with students of secondary schools with woodworking specialisation we have proven that almost anything can be made from wood. This year, we are again issuing a challenge to them and waiting for amazing objects from wood.

The Inwestor Publishing House and Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie invite you to the eighth edition of the „Conjured from Wood” competition addressed to students of all schools that offer training in woodworking and furniture production. The task for competition participants is to come up with an original idea and perform an entire production process: choose appropriate technologies and materials and use them in their projects. Those who present the greatest inventiveness and put forward interesting, unusual and top quality objects made from wood, yet not commonly produced from this raw material, will stand a chance of winning the competition and prizes. Apart from creativity, both the method and performance quality are also evaluated: a stunning object has to be made nicely and with precision. In previous editions of the competition, students would competed each other in ideas to create radios, sewing machines, skates, baseball caps, refrigerators, microscopes, scales, petrol chainsaws or accordions. Works awarded in different years included: headphones, an eco-motorcycle, a bicycle, a briefcase, an umbrella and a ball. These objects surprised and amazed not only with their looks, but often with their functionality, e.g. the umbrella could be folded and unfolded, and the briefcase could hold documents that were placed in it. Every year, authors of the winning works received prizes both for themselves and schools where they studied and where they succeeded in completing their difficult, often tedious, yet satisfying projects. We have prepared valuable prizes for them this year, as well. The school of the competition winner will be presented with T

124 hand lathe worth over 12,000 PLN, funded by the SCM company, which is bound to become an asset of the school’s workshop. The competition winner will receive a Festool power tool worth 2,000 PLN, whereas the authors of other winning works will be presented with gifts sponsored by Tooltechnics System Polska, a representative of Festool and Protool brands, worth 800 PLN each. Apart from valuable prizes for the authors who show the greatest inventiveness and the best performance technique, schools of all students who send their competition works will receive an annual subscription of the Gazeta Przemysłu Drzewnego and Meblarstwo monthlies. As usual, the winners will be accompanied by their entire class together with a tutor at the award ceremony. The winner’s class will have their travel and Drema 2011 participation costs reimbursed, whereas classes of other winners will receive tickets to the trade fair. All exhibits sent to the „Conjured from Wood” competition will be presented for viewing at the stand of the Inwestor Publishing House during this year’s edition of Drema in Poznań scheduled from 29 March to 1 April. Another chance to win a champion title 10,000 PLN is the pool of prizes waiting for the winners of the 10th Polish Championships in Nail Hammering this year.

uring this year’s edition of Drema and Furnica in Poznań, subscribers of Meblarstwo and Gazeta Przemysłu Drzewnego will once again compete for the prestigious title of the Polish Champion in Nail Hammering. The competition rules are well-known to everyone by now: you have to hammer five 3.5-inch nails into square timber with five hammer hits. The competitor who succeeds in repeating this result in the final becomes the champion. Every year, this event attracts many people willing to try their hand in hammer skills. The competition stirs a lot of emotions, earns admiration from the public, yet generates a lot of stress. It may seem dead simple to hammer a nail into square timber; however, it requires not only strength, but above all excellent precision. Nerves of steel are also welcome, because it is often difficult to stay cool, calm and collected when the time of the final test comes, as we have already seen it in the his-

tory of the championships. In the past, the champion title went not only to persons who worked with this tool on a daily basis, but also to… students. And indeed, there is something to compete for: the pool of prizes sponsored by Ita Tools is 10,000 PLN. What best proves the popularity of the championships organised jointly by the Inwestor Publishing House and Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie are crowds of visitors who keep cheering the competitors and the number of nails being hammered into square timber every year (two years ago it was over 100 kg of nails) and supplied by the W&W company. The Polish Championships in Nail Hammering will be held over all Drema and Furnica trade fair days, i.e. from 29 March to 1 April 2011 at the stand of the Inwestor Publishing House. The final and award ceremony will be held there, as well, on 1 April at 1.30 pm.

Learn more about the challenges faced by the furniture industry The Poznań-based trade fair is an invaluable source of information about the current situation in many sectors that play a key role in the economy. The furniture industry, being the domain of the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Furniture Manufacturers (OIGPM), is clearly one of the pillars of the economy, as well. This year, OIGPM has been actively involved in the development of the programme of FURNICA once again through organisation of interesting seminars: How to manage timber effectively? This seminar will be devoted to stable access to timber used both directly for furniture production and manufacture of wood derivatives, such as particle boards from which a vast majority of Polish furniture is made. The prices of timber sold by State Forests will be addressed, as well. The furniture industry is also anything but indifferent to the plans of developing green energy in Poland based on industrial incineration of full-value timber. At this point the definition of biomass will be discussed at length. During FURNICA, there will be many events at the Chamber’s stand, including interviews and press briefings with journalists from recognized and influential magazines, among others with Rzeczpospolita and industry press. Furthermore, the stand of OIGPM will have a formula of an open discussion forum, where furniture manufacturers will sit at one conference table with producers of furniture materials and accessories. Discussions at this table will focus mainly on the marketing impact of design in the field of furniture accessories on increased volume of furniture sales.
