GOES BEYOND THE MARGARITA NEW WAYS TO SIP AND SAVOR THE CLASSIC MEXICAN SPIRIT Many people are quick to associate tequila with the classic margarita — a combination of tequila, triple sec and lime juice. As delicious as a traditional margarita is, it needn’t be the only star in your cocktail lineup. Tequila has become the new favorite base for some imaginative craft cocktails. One of the latest is the ginger beergarita — a heavenly blend of ginger beer, tequila and lime on the rocks. Or the paloma, which pairs tequila with a light grapefruit soda for a refreshing twist. And don’t forget the sangrias and punch that are using tequila as a base for a fresh new flavor. A few old-school cocktails have been modified as well. The traditional Bloody Mary has morphed into the Bloody Maria (or Bloody Mariachi), where tequila is used instead of vodka. Tequila has transformed the mojito by replacing the clear rum that is usually the base for the Cuban refresher. Still take your tequila neat? You’re in good company. But whether you’re sipping it straight or savoring it mixed, be sure to choose authentic tequila that is 100% agave for the best flavor.

Method Step 1: In a cocktail shaker, muddle a sprig of rosemary, cucumber and jalapeño wedge. Step 2: Add Patrón Silver, tomato juice, lemon juice, orange juice, kosher salt and Worcestershire sauce and shake. Step 3: Strain onto fresh ice in a Collins glass. Step 4: If you like, rim the glass with kosher salt and pepper. Step 5: Garnish with a small cherry tomato and sprig of rosemary.
