atricia M. Walker is the Author of The Tarot Tells It All (shown here). She instilled in her students the knowledge that reverse meanings were not used in the Tarot until the early part of the Nineteenth Century. She pointed out that there are sufficient ‘negative’ cards and combinations in the Tarot, as part of a reading, using upright positions only. Hence, as subsequent research bore out, reverse meanings were not part of the original and traditional teachings of the Tarot. (Trust someone to introduce more negativity!) Venus Retrograde: and its impact on global finance
V
enus Retrograde is a phenomenon caused by the Earth and Venus spinning around the Sun at differing speeds. It takes the Earth about 365 days to complete one orbit around the Sun while it takes Venus about 225 days. Venus’ slower movement (as viewed from Earth) gives it the appearance of periodically moving backwards every 19 to 20 months or so. I decided to check back on the last three major stock market crashes the world has experienced to see if Venus retrograde had any prior influence on those crashes. The inherent symbolism being that there should have been strong financial shifts and indications for up to three years beforehand, which gives us a look-in on at least two previous Venus retrogrades. Astrologically, beautiful Venus rules over colours, flowers, relationship attractions and aesthetic appeals; but it also most importantly rules over value systems in astrology which naturally includes any and all finances. Even though there are obviously a number of other astrological indicators of major stock market crashes that need to be looked at (especially so with Neptune and the Moon’s North Node) I was nonetheless quite surprised at what showed up with just Venus retrograde! We’ll begin with Black Friday the 19th of September 1873, when the New York Stock Exchange suffered a major financial crash. Earlier in that same year on April 15th Venus went retrograde at 23 degrees Taurus. Normally that station would be seen as a strong position but Venus was also conjunct Pluto(the planet of destruction and transformation) at the time! The other previous retrograde of Venus occurred two years earlier on Sept. 5th 1871 when Venus moved from 11 degrees of Libra back to the 25th degree of Virgo. In Virgo, Venus is operating at its worst possible capacity; this is why astrologers refer to Venus as being in ‘fall’ when it is stationed in Virgo. These previous financial and economic indicators of Venus can be summed up in one word: dreadful! The next major crash started on the 29th of October 1929, when the New York stock exchange saw a record decline in stock prices, sparking off panic-selling by American investors Page 6
and speculators and precipitating a world-wide depression. When we focus on Venus in this period we find that she went retrograde slightly more than two years earlier on the 20th August 1927, once again at the 25th degree of Virgo! The next Venus retrograde on the 30th of March 1929, just prior to the great crash, finds her retreating back from the 8th degree of Taurus to the 22nd degree of Aries, where she is in ‘debilitation’. In other words, two consecutive Venus retrogrades before this great crash saw her again in dreadful financial and economic positions. The last major stock market crash came about on the 19th of October 1987. More than two years earlier on the 13th of March 1985, we again find Venus moving retrograde at the 22nd degree of Aries, her sign of debilitation. The following Venus retrograde occurred on the 15th of October 1986, in the 21st degree of Scorpio, the other zodiac sign of Venus’ debilitation. Both retrograde positions again hinted at imminent and significant financial reverses. Other less catastrophic crashes (some people would argue this) occurred from 2000 to 2002, with what became known as the Dot-Com Bubble and 2008 when Lehman Brothers collapsed precipitating the Global Financial Crisis and the stock-market crash of early 2010. When we look at the period 2000 to 2002 we also need to look at 1995 as the start or onset of the Dot-Com bubble. In October 1994 Venus went retrograde at the early 19th degree of Scorpio. In July 1999 Venus went retrograde at the early 6th degree of Virgo, retreated again in March 2001 from the 18th degree of Aries and for a third time on the 10th of October 2002, in the 16th degree of Scorpio. From 2008 to 2010 we find Venus retrograde at the 3rd degree of Virgo at the end of July 2007, at the 16th degree of Aries in early March 2009 and at the 14th degree of Scorpio in October 2010. Twice within 11 years Venus has delivered a record three consecutive signs of fall and debilitation – which is quite rare! Besides Venus there are obviously other major economic indicators, especially with Neptune and the Moon’s nodal degree as mentioned earlier (Moon’s nodal degree is the point where
the path of Sun and Moon cross, as the cultural and economic indicator of life). Also, Neptune was in, or extremely close to entering, an Earth sign each time we’ve had a major stock market crash. The next fall and debilitating positions of Venus retrograde won’t occur until late July 2015 at the very first degree of Virgo and early March 2017 at the early 14th degree of Aries. Hence, it may be prudent to have some spare cash floating around from 2015 to 2020! © 2012 Peter W. Whitewood Dip. ASA

The Fall & Rise of an Empire: an astrological profile of Rupert Murdoch of a persons underlying foundation, or cornerstone influence if you like: Rupert Murdoch was born on the 11th of March 1931, which was the Year of the Goat (Cancer) and the Element of Metal, which I call Blacksmith/ Metal. Following are two excerpts out of my book ‘The Missing Link in Astrology’ that deal with the Chinese Year and Element signs: If the following section becomes too technical for the reader then please turn the next page and continue with ‘We can now see...’ Here is Rupert’s Chinese Year sign:
T
Rupert Murdoch, the Man
he very first thing that struck me when I began to study Rupert Murdoch’s natal (birth) chart (following pages) was the lack of planets in air (the three air signs in astrology primarily rule over social communication and networking). He was born with only Venus (1 out of 10 main recognised astrological planets) in the air sign of Aquarius, which is incredible when you realise that he has built his media empire News Corp in America, based on radio, television, newspapers, the internet, etc., via communication and networking; the very essence and meaning of the word ‘media’. Don’t get me wrong, his natal chart has all of the hallmarks of an empire builder with powerful mutual receptions, Gauguelin planets, midpoint configurations, Sun Moon profile, and the entrepreneurial qualities of five planets and other strong points in cardinal signs, which I shall expand on and explain a little later. The reason that this lack of air in Rupert Murdoch’s natal chart struck me so profoundly was that this gave me the first strong clue that his portrayal as a powerful and ruthless man, who will mow down anything before him, is and has been completely misunderstood and very much misrepresented by a large section of the media (instigated by his enemies?). Before we explore his natal chart let’s first take a look at his Chinese Year and Element sign (there are 5 Chinese Element signs in all), which many astrologers need to realise is a very important part Page 8
THE YEAR OF CANCER/GOAT The Patriot WA = Artist/Water, W = Scholar/Wood, F = Warrior/Fire, E = Mason/Earth, M = Blacksmith/Metal.
Eastern Astrological equivalent:
THE CHINESE YEAR OF THE GOAT 12-2,1907,F 1-2,1919,E 17-2,1931,M 5-2,1943,WA 24-1,1955,W 9-2,1967,F 28-1,1979,E 5-2,1991,M 1-2,2003,WA 20-1,2015,W Dates above indicate new Moon starts of Cancer Year signs:
Western Astrological equivalent:
THE YEAR OF CANCER Triplicity or Element is ‘Water’. Quadruplicity or Modality is ‘Cardinal’. Polarity is ‘Negative’. RULES OVER: Nurturing and Supportive activities. Homes. Country/s. Families. Traditional, cultural and emotional insights. Involvement in the home, home products and food industries.
H
ere we find someone with the emotional strength to be a heartfelt patriot. The man or woman who will actively protect and defend their particular country and its traditional and cultural values, home, family or clan with a passion and devotion that can, at times, border on fanaticism. People born in Cancer/Goat years develop such deep emotional attachments—for example, to any cause or person they wish to adopt—that they’re quite capable of risking their very lives to protect
their homes, families and countries, etc., to ensure continuity and survival. They have the most amazing courage during such times of crises! This near instinctual compulsion also drives these people to become exemplary home-makers, whose main inherent function, it seems, is to actively create and sustain strong nurturing environments.
[Rupert of course has powerful Capricorn qualities reinforced in his natal birth chart.] Let’s now couple this with Rupert’s Element sign of Metal, which I call Blacksmith/Metal:
Time and again I have witnessed the amazing similarity between the Year of Cancer/Goat and the monthly zodiac sign of Cancer. The fundamental difference lies in the fact that, whereas the Sun sign in Cancer person needs to learn and grow by becoming progressively more nurturing and emotionally adaptive, the Cancer/Goat person exemplifies these qualities as an almost unconscious or established and well-honed trait within their make-up.
Embodies the signs, Leo, Virgo, Libra and Scorpio: The BLACKSMITH receives the creative ideas— Leo; gathers his or her materials, tools and starts to work—Virgo; providing the desired object/ive for oneself or the other person/s—Libra; through the furnace of transformation—Scorpio.
Though the initial introduction to the Cancer/ Goat person would have you believe he/she can be somewhat fierce and aggressive, interestingly, the exact opposite is true. Certainly, if pushed, they can become quite assertive, yet these people are normally gentle and soft with a disarming emotionality which clearly fosters openness and trust. A slight word of warning though! Whatever your relationship may be, don’t ever make the mistake of trying to force a Cancer/Goat person into any sort of rolemodel or position in life. Because, these people will only act on the dictates of their own directions through inner compulsions and emotions—hence the Chinese terminology of, the paradoxically sidestepping ‘Goat’—who will simply rebel or walk away from what they may feel is an oppressive or overly authoritarian situation—a reflection of the polarity (opposite) sign of Capricorn/Ox. This trait is precisely the way Cancer/Goat people ‘can’ bring themselves undone, however, by misinterpreting other peoples actions as being oppressive, or by letting their inner emotions and compulsions dictate sometimes inappropriate actions, such as the termination of a worthwhile career; or, the cutting short of any other future potentials—including relationships. This is where Cancer/Goat people need the polarity (opposite) sign of Capricorn/Ox, showing them the necessity to persevere with ongoing tasks, situations and structures; otherwise the saying ‘A rolling stone gathers no moss,’ could end up leaving them quite moss-less—or simply broke! Planetary placements in the natal (birth) chart would obviously add or subtract many characteristic nuances—although never fully take away—from this paradoxical and emotional Cancer foundation and must always be taken into account. Page 9
THE YEAR OF BLACKSMITH/METAL The Third Quidrant: 24 LEO - 6 SCORPIO
Blacksmith/Metal allows for the creative development to obtain and/or achieve, via the hardening process, desired objectives in life. KEY PHRASE: The Hardening Process.
T
he optimum interpretation that springs to mind with Blacksmith/Metal is ‘The Hardening Process’. If ever there was an energy level that could express the process of turning iron into steel, then the Creator/element of Blacksmith/Metal is most certainly the one. People born under the element of Blacksmith/Metal can spend their youthful years in quite difficult and unpleasant circumstances— although not always so severe. Either through [an] overly authoritative and/or critical parent/s, who severely curtails the Blacksmith/Metal’s creative drive; or else, the father—the principle creator— who may have been somehow estranged or completely absent during their formative years, thus virtually leaving them to ‘creatively’ fend for themselves. Whichever way it turns out, this ‘hardening process’, and the resultant creative impairment or curtailment, pushes these people—sometimes to the extreme—via an ever-increasing drive to acquire the materials, tools and hard working abilities, to actively pursue desired objectives in life—even seemingly impossible ones—through the process of self-transformation. Initially for themselves, but ultimately for others as well. As to how this unfolds, depends, naturally, on the directional quality of the Year sign and natal (birth) chart. Full potential can most certainly be achieved at an earlier age. Although, it’s usually from the age of forty to fortyfive onwards, when various life experiences via the ‘hardening process’ have accumulated according to the natal (birth) chart, that these Blacksmith/Metal people start to exhibit the full potential of their hard-working and Creator/element Year, to the point
where they seem to ‘achieve almost anything’. [Note: The initial curtailment of creative drives tends to belie the fact that, even though all of the five Creator/elements relate to the creative evolvement and processes of life, it’s the ‘hardening process’ of Blacksmith/Metal that runs in close parallel with phallic symbolism. In some ways it shares common grounds with the planet Mars, although in a far more creatively fertile way. Therefore, it’s mainly the hardworking Blacksmith/Metal element that impregnates and fertilizes life on this planet, creating for us the fruits of life and allowing us to harvest plentiful crops. I’m sure that the expression ‘as you sow, so shall you reap’ must decidedly have originated from a Blacksmith/Metal person!]
W
e can now see that the real Rupert Murdoch is very much a deeply-caring patriotic familyman (his Chinese Year sign) who has an amazing depth of compassion for all of life (his natal chart - explored next), though at the same time pushed by an incredible hard-working need for achievement instilled in him at an early age by his well-meaning, though somewhat absent and/or perhaps critical father (his Chinese Element sign and natal chart). Let’s now take a step-by-step closer look at his birth chart and why Rupert Murdoch is not the ruthless and power hungry man they so often portray him to be. Before continuing I need to emphasise that even though there will be some references to his vast media empire (News Corporation), and the phone hacking scandal at News of the World in Britain, the primary focus here will be on Rupert Murdoch, the man. I shall endeavour to explain the various astrological meanings as put forward here in order to assist the layman, though time and space constrictions dictate that I keep these brief (maybe worthwhile to look at and start learning with our Astrology Corner?)
The Empire Builder
W
hen someone has the sun and moon in their natal chart in a waning square aspect (90 degree approximate aspect) it can give the ability to become an empire builder, especially when coupled with Capricorn and powerful Cardinal qualities (expanded on later), which is exactly what Rupert has in his natal chart - next page. Pair this with his Chinese Element sign and we can begin to see the incredible need for achievement in his life. In other words he was virtually born to become an empire builder. Page 10
The Compassionate Man
R
upert Murdoch was born with his Sun and Mercury in the compassionate sign of Pisces with further compassionate strengthening factors shown by his powerful mutually received Neptune in Virgo - via Mercury in Pisces. (A Mutual reception is where two planets are in each other’s rulership sign, as with Neptune ruling Pisces and Mercury ruling Virgo, giving each other a double strengthening impact. Plus his Neptune is in the ‘Gauguelin’ area of the chart. Michel Gauguelin was a French Scientist/Statistician who decided to prove Astrology as being farcical and wrong and ended up becoming one of the foremost astrologers in the world by proving that planets received enormous strengthening factors when in particular areas of the natal chart - e.g., just before the ASC, 1st house cusp - and MC, 10th house cusp - see chart) Further indicators of a compassionate nature can be found by three other planets in the sign of Cancer plus, as discussed earlier, he was also born in the Chinese Year of the Goat, which is the year of Cancer; and, a majority of his planets are in the fourth house, which is the house of Cancer! The synergy of all of these reinforced compassionate/ nurturing elements together would have made it impossible for Rupert Murdoch to purposely go out and hurt anyone, other than to defend, (The protective qualities of Cancer reinforced once again) . Rather, the aforementioned water sign combinations, along with his Chinese Year sign, would make him a highly compassionate and patriotic soul, who would fiercely defend his home, family, and his country, with his very life!
Too Trusting a Man
I
f there is an area that could be construed as criticism, however, it would be that Rupert Murdoch is too trusting of human nature. I’m not saying that he is not an astute business-man, able to sum people up, or one who allows people to get away with wrongdoings! What I am saying is that the lack of planets in air signs in his natal chart means that he has relied too much on people doing the right thing by him. In other words, he is such an ethical man himself (Uranus in Aries ruling the third house and intercepted/exhalted ruler of the 11th house and disposing its energy via the Sun - as exhalted ruler of Aries) that he believes others to be similar. The very nature of his media empire News Corp, means that he would employ many executives, managers and reporters with the very much needed planets in the air signs of Gemini,

Libra and Aquarius. Any astrologer worth his or her salt would immediately understand that people with a majority of such air sign planets can be capable of, and have subtle ways of (at the very least) bending the truth a little (though this is mostly not the case with the air sign of Aquarius), or, at times, using somewhat slightly underhanded or manipulative communicating methods to gain information - especially applying to planets in Gemini. This is where we are now starting to get a more complete picture, especially on how the phone and email tapping scandal would have come about as part of the ingrained News of the World culture. We won’t

sum up just yet though, as we need to look at other mitigating factors in Rupert Murdoch’s natal chart.
The Family Business Man
T
he mutual reception between Neptune and Mercury that I mentioned earlier also means that Rupert Murdoch would treat his most trusted employees as family members - Neptune as ruler of the family 4th house conjunct the business 10th house. He would most definitely have treated, stood by and defended most ethically his trusted employees (or so perceived to be), although the same of course may not have always been true in reverse.
The Locomotive Effect
W
hen a person has more than 5 strong points (which includes at least 3 planets) in cardinal signs (cardinal signs are the action-oriented signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) - Rupert has 6 - then we get an influence of what I call ‘the locomotive effect’. Such a strong emphasis of cardinal planets and points in a natal chart means that a person can be so driven to reach an objective (News Corp) that it can be likened to a locomotive going at a hundred miles an hour that virtually can’t be stopped any more. In other words, action has been taken towards an objective that has been so powerfully reinforced over a long period of time that it becomes nearly impossible to change direction; even to the point where a potential train wreck can already be viewed in the future via a vantage point in the past - though the power and impetus of the locomotive (action taken to a particular objective) is kept going. Hence, whilst any and all means may be taken to avoid the accident, in actual fact, the locomotive (action) should have been stopped (although in reality it’s not that simple to change an ingrained cultural flow). Here is where we get another clue into Rupert Murdoch’s cardinal-laden sign chart combined with the distinct lack of air sign planets. Instead of completely stopping and changing the direction of News of the World’s escalating and culturally entrenched phone & email tappings, he most likely tried to get the culprits to change their ways. I’m certainly not inferring here that he knew about the very latest phone and email tappings at News of the World in Britain, though in his mind he may have already dealt with this as a minor problem much earlier (believed to be minor at the time - 2005/6), not realising that it would eventually become a deeply ingrained cultural problem. In other words, he very likely believed or assumed that the problem had been dealt with by delegating it to the people in charge that he obviously felt he could trust. Wrong! How can you change an organisational culture reinforced over a number of years amongst News of the World employees; and, though these culprits may have been in the minority, at least against the backdrop of News Corp’ vast media empire, it seems Rupert Murdoch unfortunately had a number of ‘little Hitlers’ working for him (probably still has) with their own power agendas (Pluto and Jupiter in his natal 7th house of open enemies - with Jupiter in mutual reception with his Moon in the 12th house of hidden enemies). This is where the real problem has laid all along. The only way for Rupert to deal with this now is to ruthlessly stamp it out Page 12
(change complete direction), which, by the way, he is quite capable of doing (Sun trine Pluto aspect), even with all of his compassionate qualities. He has actually already done this by completely shutting down ‘News of the World’ in Britain! I’m sure that if he finds any further evidence of anyone else in his vast News Corp empire conspiring to tap phones or emails, he would have no hesitation in giving them immediate notice. On the 21st of October of 2011, a defiant Rupert Murdoch survived attempts by angry (and I feel, misled) investors to remove him as Chairman of News Corp. His tough resilient qualities can be noted by Capricorn rising and Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) in his 1st house of personality. The same resilient qualities showed themselves again by the recent announcement of his new The Sun on Sunday newspaper, replacing the very popular News of the World. Further recently surfaced (computer) hacking allegations will more than likely be found to have no basis in reality – more enemy activities?
I
n the final analysis we can see from his Chinese Year & Element signs and his astrological natal (birth) chart that Rupert is a deeply caring and ethical individual who would have been horrified when he finally learned the truth of how profoundly ingrained the phone and email tapping practice had entrenched itself into the News of the World arm of his beloved News Corp. I saw a reflection of this caring man in a television interview when he spoke of the pain the situation had caused various members of the general public and other important members of the public affected by the scandal. The compassionate side of his nature (to me) showed itself very clearly. I have seen many reflections of people with strong Pisces qualities in their chart who sooner or later in life become the scapegoats or victims of other peoples foibles, simply because of their compassionate and trusting nature. Rupert Murdoch here is no exception. He simply trusted the wrong people - the ‘little Hitlers’ as I call them. They are the real pariahs. It needs to be remembered that Rupert Murdoch is an amazingly creative and experienced individual who has helped the careers of many thousands of people; and personally, after having studied his astrological credentials closely, I would like to wish him the best possible luck for the future - I feel he truly deserves it! © 2012 Peter W. With this book, maybe you too can find a life with so much goodness and positivity. God has changed my life from being a dead ember to the most radiant glow. With every day, I am most thankful that God made this miracle in me, to show to others that He can change your life from a horrible nothing to a beautiful something. Praise God for all good things happen through Him. Whether we laugh or we cry, we’re bound and broken, lost and destroyed, God can give us a whole new life where none of those past feelings inhibit our life again.

Whispers From The Angels - by Heather Colquist his is a book of inspirational messages from the world of spirit conveyed to the author, Heather Colquist, through the vessel of automatic writing. The word ‘automatic’ is a misnomer for it conveys the impression of something robotic and devoid of feeling. Heather Colquist’s anthology of wisdom is imbued with green and pink, the colours of the heart chakra, from first page to last. One of this book’s greatest messages is that we humans too often turn love into a set of shackles when we really should allow it to be an endless and unconditional beam of light. This book of profound yet easily digestible insights deserves to become a best seller. It’s sure to touch many lives in a positive way. Whispers from the Angels is a must read for anyone seeking emotional and spiritual nourishment in a world that has become too consumed with the science of control and the control of science.

The Vivienne System of English - by Vivienne Dearman s a classroom teacher I was frequently asked to publish the content of my English lessons. These lessons were often a scene of much hilarity, especially with the addition of cartoons, raps and drama. They were delivered with much gusto! I developed a light-hearted approach to teaching English in order to capture and engage the attention of the students. This in turn gave students a clearer understanding of our wonderful English language. My book is an overview of basic English. In this publication I have recorded the graphics, ditties, rhymes, rules and comprehensive word lists used with students. The rhymes can be presented in a variety of ways depending on the age of students. It is envisaged that this book will be a helpful teaching aid for graduate teachers, student teachers, parents, classroom teachers, tutors, E.S.L. teachers and students wanting to improve their literacy skills. This publication has been a long time in the making. Happy learning! Happy teaching!

12 Reasons Why There’s No 13th Zodiac Sign

re astronomers and media outlets correct with their recent assertion about the existence of a 13th zodiac sign? In order to find out we need to look at how astrology actually works via the advent of harmonics: Over the last 100 years or so astrology has gone through a virtual rebirth which a number of prominent astrologers have greatly contributed to. One such astrologer is John M. Addey, who took this youthful science firmly by the hand and steered it onto a new path with his now world renowned book titled ‘Harmonics In Astrology’. I had always wondered: how is it possible for the 12 tropical zodiac signs to have and show such clear and concise beginnings? Plainly shown, for example, when astrologers erect ingress charts (these charts are the study of planet/s entering sign/s). Why should 12 zodiac signs even exist when the path of the ecliptic (the apparent path of the Sun around the Earth) in respect to the Earth’s equator is tilted by approximately 23 degrees? If anything, this should indicate a visual and experiential perspective of geocentric (Earth-viewed) lopsidedness (see illus.2). Aside from the equinoxes (0 degree Aries & 0 degree Libra) and the solstices (0 degree Cancer & 0 degree Capricorn) as reference points, there has been absolutely nothing else which would indicate why such precision would even dare to exist! John Addey’s work has shown us that the 12 zodiac signs are really based on a 12th harmonic wave principle, set up by the apparent path of the sun (as shown in figure 2). This principle can be likened to and is very similar to harmonic waves generated in sound such as music; each wave being 30 degrees in length and alternating between high and low points (see Fig. 1A illus.1). Starting from the vernal equinox, which is 0 degree Aries, the waves show us the positive signs—high points—and negative signs—low points (see Fig. 1B illus.1). John goes to great lengths to explain that our conceptual view and understanding of the zodiac signs as being separate or box-like structures is really an illusion. Because we are dealing with points of a wavelength and not sectors. The start of a particular sign is really a cancellation between Page 16
the high and low points of two wavelengths (see Fig. 1B Illus. 1). Clearly showing an ending and new beginning of positive and negative rhythms. Or in other words, positive and negative signs, e.g. Aries and Taurus (see Fig. 1B Illus. 1). In order to understand the principle of harmonics in astrology we need to look at what is actually the numerological division of the zodiac circle into wavelength sections. For example: Dividing the 360 degree zodiac via
The twelve zodiac signs based on the 12th harmonic
two 180 degree wavelengths gives us the second harmonic; or, dividing the zodiac circle via three 120 degree wavelengths gives us the third harmonic; more divisions will give us the fourth harmonic, the sixth harmonic, etc. The reason that the 12th harmonic wavelength exercises such a strong influence on our consciousness (e.g. 12 hours of day, 12 hours of night, 12 months of the year, 12 apostles, 12 zodiac signs, etc.) is that it divisionally embodies many other rhythmic patterns, such as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th harmonic. 12 is the only number (including multiples of itself such as 24, 36, 48, etc.) which can be divided by 2, 3, 4 and 6. This, together with positive and negative alternating and harmonic intermingling phases, gives us our Triplicities, Modalities (or Modes) and Polarities which form the basics of our understanding of

the signs and elements in astrology. In other words, the 12th harmonic is the most powerful and supportive mainstay tapestry of harmonics. This tapestry is the reason why we have 12 clearcut, distinct zodiac signs and not 13; 13 cannot be harmonically divided by any other number! Astronomers and various media people proclaiming the discovery of a 13th zodiac sign is a misrepresentation! I really don’t know where this nonsense came from or how it got started but, as you can see from the earlier narrative and illustrations, it is simply impossible for this so called 13th zodiac sign to exist! 13 is a prime number, cannot be divided by any number, and is therefore not based on any harmonic equivalent! It may well have been derived by well-meaning astronomers via the constellations (groups) of stars, which also happen to have the same zodiac names (named so by astronomers by the way, not astrologers!) It is important to make the distinction here that constellations are not zodiac signs and zodiac signs are not constellations! I also need to mention a clear distinction between the ‘Tropical Zodiac’, which is part of our own western astrology and is based on the Sun & Planets via our Solar system (see Illus. 2) and the ‘Sidereal Zodiac’ studied by Hindu & Sidereal astrologers. Tropical and Sidereal are two very different types of astrology - as different as yin and yang. Even Sidereal astrology, however, is also based on on the Sun & Planets via our Solar system and equally relates to the same 12th Harmonic and has nothing whatsoever to do with the number of constellations astronomers discover! (By the way, this same 12th harmonic is the basis for the 12 Chinese/Vietnamese animal Year signs as well, which is set up by the rotational directions of the milky way which is constantly pivoting around a dark-matter galactic centre, cyclically setting up a number of interacting 12th harmonic patterns Read page 60 ‘A Brief Introduction into Chinese/ Vietnames Year Signs’.) Hence it becomes very important for astronomers and other media people to become better informed on astrology before making speculative comments about a 13th zodiac sign, which, as shown, simply has no basis for existence in our astrological world!

True Democracy: how the Arab spring signals the start of a paradigm shift in world consciousness (It’s written in the stars)
P
resently, an overwhelming popular desire for worldwide democratic change is no more clearly evidenced than in the Arab world. That same desire is also giving rise to grave concerns amongst our world political leaders who fear that subversive elements and/or Islamic radicals will somehow be triumphant and seize power. Is the real enemy, however, an inordinate sense of fear….one whose roots stem from the loss of unquestioned power and oppressive control? These unrelenting democratic shifts can be attributed to three potent astrological influences. Whilst the focus seems to centre on the Arab countries, where people are perhaps more loudly and desperately crying out for democratic change, on a closer and broader inspection, these shifts can in fact be seen to be occurring in every country around the world. Indeed, it’s not only dictators and despotic regimes like those of Colonel Gaddafi and the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, but all politicians around the globe who are under notice to ‘Change or suffer the consequences’. The advent of Wikileaks and its high profile founder Julian Assange, are a classic example of the prevailing revolutionary democratic energies alerting the worlds’ politicians to the need for greater transparency and accountability. The shrill call or imperative is to treat all, the environment included (and not just their own constituents), with equal respect and dignity. So let’s take a look at these three powerful astrological influences:
N
umber one relates to the actions of two of our collective outer planets, Uranus and Neptune. The second is the influence of a 60-year Triduad Cycle and the third relates to the Chinese Year Sign cycles. We will also take a cursory though important look at the Mayan prophecy of Dec 21, 2012. Let’s explore each influence separately: During the course of the last 15 or so years Page 20
Uranus and Neptune
Uranus and Neptune have been letting loose some extraordinary energies. Transiting Uranus first moved into its own sign of Aquarius in January 1996. Uranus is well recognised in astrology as the great awakener and is the higher ruler of the sign Aquarius, which in turn rules over democratic and humanitarian principles. Neptune moved into Aquarius at the end of January 1998 and, as the higher ruler of Pisces, has dominion over new collective trends that, sometimes subtly but always potently, affect humanity – including artistic, spiritual and religious trends. When outer planets move through any particular zodiac sign they collect any and all experiences and energies from that zodiac sign and release or pour these experienced energies into the following sign and so on. Five years after Neptune’s transit into Aquarius the next move of Uranus triggered a rare and extraordinary event that has only occurred once before 505 years ago from March 1506 to February 1509. In March 2003 Uranus moved into Pisces while Neptune continued to progress through Aquarius. In other words, since March of 2003 till March of 2011, Neptune and Uranus have been in a pattern known as Mutual Reception. Mutual Reception is where they simultaneously transit each others’ sign and mutually (doubly) pick up on each other’s energy and strength: Uranus transiting Pisces rules over Aquarius; and, Neptune transiting Aquarius rules over Pisces. To sum up this amazing co-contributing energy combination: Uranus the great awakener and the collective trendsetter Neptune have
together infused the citizens of this planet with an overwhelming desire to be treated equally, fairly and compassionately. Politicians and especially various dictators and despotic regimes need to take this new democratic energy sweeping the globe very seriously, otherwise the citizens of the world will sooner or later rise up and simply get rid of them. The most recent prime example of this was the swift dispatch into exile of long time Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, an event largely driven by the relentless civil disobedience campaign of young Tunisians who co-ordinated their idealistic rebellion (Neptune) and broadcast it globally via social networking sites and mobile phone technologies (Uranus). No coincidence that Uranus rules the Internet! Uranus and Neptune are also making sure that religion can no longer be used to control and manipulate or to justify, indeed sanctify, violence, terror, greed, hypocrisy, moralism, the hierarchy of Church and State and the list goes on. No matter how powerful a regime or how tyrannical the dictator at its head, it will eventually be eroded by an overwhelming popular desire for freedom and fair treatment. But this global push for freedom and humane treatment is not just down to the amazing actions of these two outer planets. There are also other powerful reinforcing cycles involved that we shall explore in the next two examples. If the following sections become too technical for the reader than please turn the page and continue with ‘This earlier excerpt...’
The 60-year Triduad Cycle mentioned earlier is still relatively unknown in western astrological circles. Some years back I wrote two books: The Zodiac Connection to Gaia and The Missing Link in Astrology (1993 - ebook format only). Both publications extensively explore the everexpanding astrological cycles spanning from 12 to 60 and 180 years and onwards to 2,160 and 25,920 years.** Chinese astrology has 12 yearly signs with five elements that operate in combination to give what is known as a 60-year Triduad cycle. This 60-year Triduad cycle is a three-fold part of a 180 Duad cycle, which in turn fits into a 2,160-year cycle, (12 x 180), and in turn to the great 25,920 year cycle, (12 x 2160). Astrologers can begin to understand these cycles as being part of the Procession of the Equinoxes. The years spanning from 1984 to the year 2164 (AD) is the period when the 180-year tropical Page 21
Duad of Aquarius (and the Sidereal Duad of Aries) remains in operation. The following excerpt (written in 1992-3) from my book ‘The Zodiac Connection to Gaia’ explains how these particular 180 Duad year cycles have been and are still unfolding themselves:
180-year Tropical Duad of Aquarius Sidereal Duad of Aries. 1984 to 2164 AD
I
n an earlier section under ‘The Ayanamsa and the Progress of Mankind’ I wrote fairly extensively about the Rainbow Company and Greenpeace and proceeded on how they had both started to make themselves known most predominantly since 1984, as a reflection of the tropical Aquarius Duad at work. Anyhow, I would like to hereby again re-emphasise and continue on from that particular section, with some slight variations: So far (from 1984), this Aquarius Duad has strongly started to make its presence felt, especially through human rights movements presently sweeping the world via group consciousness—activated and guided by the ever conscious-raising sidereal Duad of Aries. This can be seen, for instance, by our United Nations, unquestionably not, as it was in the past a toothless tiger any more—although at the time of writing this book in 1993, its roar is still a great deal worse than its bite. Or the Berlin wall coming down in 1989—which was, by the way, first initialised at the ‘exact’ beginning of these Duads in 1984, through new trade, aid and travel agreements—and the world-wide push for Aquarius freedom and independence (via republicanism, etc). Notably exemplified by the eastern-bloc countries who got tired of their ‘Capricorn Duad’ masters (Capricorn
The sign of freedom, equality and democracy
Duad from 1804 to 1984). Bringing about another good example, which can be observed with ‘Capricorn Duad’ orientated politicians, businessman and community leaders including dictators and crime-bosses, using their power structures for selfish purposes, who have been or will be in for a rude shock. Because the newly arrived Aquarius values do not, and will not, tolerate unjust or selfish actions. This, so far, through the eradication of a large number of such despotic leaders, has most effectively demonstrated itself since 1984. With the Aquarius Duad, one of the main areas that has experienced rapid growth since 1984, for example, is the computer. Becoming much more accessible to the average consumer and along with software has so far turned into a worldwide multi-billion dollar industry. Such a potent indication of increased consciousness through group expanding conceptualised communication facilities—Aquarius Duad. Another growth area is astrology, which is thankfully starting to lose its fortune telling and mystery inclination tag of yesteryear, with former USA Republican President Ronald Reagan, for instance, setting new political and commercial trends by having utilised astrology for himself to become more effective. This, by the way, has had a worldwide reflection through politicians and businessman gamely employing many deserving astrologers. An interesting point here is that Aquarius Sun sign President Ronald Reagan won a landslide re-election victory in 1984 at the ‘exact’ beginning of the 180-year tropical Aquarius Duad. A great benefit for all astrologers is that the Aquarius Duad should have the effect of seeing astrology properly establish itself as an intricate part of collective society, hopefully in the not too distant future. Besides having rehashed on the above section, we need to expand a bit more on other areas as well. Firstly, just have a look at all of the tropical Aquarius Duad healing and selfhelp techniques that are presently available via crystals and books since 1984, including the new psychological perspective of the ‘inner child,’ etc—an opposite Leo reflection. Looking at a different area, we can also see another repercussion of the tropical Aquarius Duad and how this is presently contributing to the decline of Monarchy, or at least power to the people transformation, in various countries Page 22
through definitive forms of republicanism. This will eventually include, I believe, England as well. We previously explored the tropical Leo Decanate and Duad started in 904 AD, and how this was a time when collectively, people started to energetically and creatively identify with, learn and draw strength from patriarchal (father) figureheads of states and countries, via the centralising power of monarchs and kings. The start of the concept and identification process with the principal of the hero (Leo - opposite sign of Aquarius). A time when sovereigns could do no wrong, were put on pedestals and looked up to as divine entities who derived their right to rule directly from God. However, slowly but surely over the last millennium or so, and since its very beginning, the tropical Aquarius Duad has continued to show people the very human-like qualities that our world-wide Monarchs had unmistakably possessed. Along with all of the human frailties and mistakes that such sovereign-beings can make—just check out the British tabloids! Still, on the reflective side, this Aquarius Duad is actually serving a very specific purpose, in that, it’s teaching and showing us the tremendous (king-like) creative capacities that we are all individually capable of and the amazing goals and achievements that potentially exist within us all. Naturally, these new Aquarius qualities were concurrently and powerfully activated by the conscious-raising and pioneering qualities of the 180-year sidereal Aries Duad. Hence, the worldwide push for Aquarius individual goals and rewards that only freedom and independence can bring about, as reflected by the 180-year tropical Duad of Aquarius.
T
his earlier excerpt was written well before there were any established social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The advent of social networks has facilitated the spread of the Aquarius communicating energies of freedom, individual rights and fair treatment far and wide. These social network tools are the new weapons, the arsenal against the tyranny and selfcentredness of dictators, despotic regimes and power hungry politicians. This particular 180year Duad is of course divided into three 60-year Triduads. The first of these 60-year Triduads is the strongest Aquarius Triduad of all and is the reason that during the period from 1984 until 2044 unfair treatment, the denial of individual human rights
and, in particular, the oppression experienced by collective groups of people (and animals) will no longer be tolerated. Combined with the important influences of Neptune and Uranus, we can see via the Internet that these Aquarius energies have created the prevailing impetus for democratic change that simply won’t be ignored nor stopped. This leads me to the third influence: Chinese Year Signs are powerful yearly cycles that have strong influences on all of us; not only with the particular Chinese year sign one is born under, but also via year-to-year occurrences. Many years ago I came to the realisation that the Chinese yearly animal signs showed a remarkable affinity with the monthly zodiac signs. As a research astrologer I soon realised that these twelve Chinese year signs were based on the same 12th harmonic energy levels that occur in monthly zodiac signs. In other words, the Chinese Year Signs produce exactly the same 12th harmonic energy levels as monthly zodiac signs; they have simply experienced a different cultural upbringing! - See the article ‘12 Reasons Why There’s No 13th Zodiac Sign’ - page 16. 2010 was the Chinese Year of the Tiger and the western reflection of the Year of the Tiger is found in the year of Aquarius. Here is a short excerpt from my book: Chinese Year of the Tiger. Western Astrological equivalent: THE YEAR OF AQUARIUS Triplicity or Element is ‘Air’. Quadruplicity or Modality is ‘Fixed’. Polarity is ‘Positive’. RULES OVER: Group activities. Friendships. Humanitarianism. Freedom and Independence. Inventiveness. Involvement in a strong push towards goal achievements and rewards. DO YOU OWN A BUSINESS that has a marked potential through expansion via futuristic concepts and possibly new inventions? Needing a person who can securely, and in a stable way, manage this business by setting firm goals and deadlines? Then look no further, because the person born in the Year of Aquarius/Tiger is your man or woman. Here we have someone who comes across as a firm taskmaster, on themselves as well as other people, in order to arrive at a hard-working destination. Not only as stable managers of present concerns, but also by being constantly on the lookout for ways to improve or refine Page 23
existing circumstances for the humane welfare and betterment of everyone concerned, certainly not excluding themselves, of course. Again, the Year of Aquarius/Tiger shows an amazing affinity with the monthly zodiac sign of Aquarius. Although people with the Sun sign in Aquarius need to learn and grow by progressively developing their humanitarian as well as goal achieving talents and abilities, which is already soundly established with Aquarius/Tiger people. The Year of Aquarius/Tiger gives these people enduring courage coupled with a guarded, freedom inspired independence— which can create quite a rebellious nature— and a determined look that exudes a strong and quiet confidence. Hence, the Chinese have designated the qualities of power and courage to the mighty Year Sign of the Tiger.
S
mall cycles operate within bigger cycles, which operate within bigger cycles still. So early 2010 is when the yearly cycle of Aquarius (Tiger) started to unfold itself while simultaneously operating within the 60-year Triduad and 180-year Duad cycles of Aquarius. This was of course also powerfully reinforced with Uranus and Neptune transiting the sign of Aquarius and followed up with an eight year Mutual Reception of both planets (March 2003 – March 2011) as explained earlier. Transiting Uranus has recently moved and is busy pouring enormous Mutually-Received Aquarius energies
into the hard-fighting zodiac sign of Aries for the next six to seven years. Meanwhile transiting Neptune briefly moved into Pisces, heading back into Aquarius again for a fairly short time frame and is back in Pisces once again. The earlier-finished Chinese year of the Cat, which is the year of Pisces, along with the activities of Neptune, are allowing these uniquely powerful Aquarius energies to operate on a worldwide collective level. All of these aforementioned planetary energies and cycles combined, and especially now with transiting Uranus in Aries and the Chinese year of Aries (Dragon) in 2012, have created these powerful reinforcements of Aquarius energies that cannot possibly come about again for at least another 311,040 years (12 x 25,920 year processional cycle). Actually, it’s more likely to be 12 x 2,160 x 25,920 years, which is quite mind-boggling. We are therefore living in an amazing timeframe where the unheralded intermingling of Aquarius-reinforced cycles are now instrumental in creating a paradigm shift in world consciousness by collectively informing and educating people all over the world about truth, freedom and justice for all. No longer can authority figures, politicians, dictators and powerful regimes treat people as second-class citizens, who are given no rights other than to slave away for their brutal and egotisticallydriven masters. This worldwide democratic paradigm shift will now continue to apply unrelenting and increasing pressure to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his despotic regime who, at the time of writing, have seemingly been able to withstand these democratic pressures. But as the near future will show, they too shall fall!
doomsday scenario has been projected onto this major cyclic shift that has no basis in reality. This is what Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, a 13th generation Mayan Priest has to say: ‘It is only a change of a cycle of the Sun. We are now in the window of the end of time, (meaning the closing of the Great Cycle - The Long Count)’. Don Alejandro refuses to put an exact time-frame on the changeover, or end of this great cycle, and states that the changes are already happening and could culminate very soon. According to the Mayan prophecies: ‘The first stage of higher understanding will begin and the ancient knowledge will come back to us if we are willing to work with our subconscious’. Unfortunately it seems that someone has arbitrarily picked the changeover date of this great Mayan cycle as 21st December 2012 (also because of increased solar flare activity?) simply because it conveniently happens to be a summer solstice point of 0 degrees Capricorn that is now, via the precession of the equinoxes, starting to get close to the Galactic centre situated at the 27th degree of Sagittarius. However, what most people don’t realise is that it would take at least another couple of hundred years for the summer solstice to align itself with the Galactic centre (the dark-matter centre which our milky way galaxy spirals around) which is now (at the time of writing) at precisely 27 degrees and .005 minutes of Sagittarius. The research that I have done so far has convinced me that this great
T
he Great Mayan Cycle called ‘The Long Count’, or also referred to as the 13 Baktuns, is a time period of 1,872,000 days or 5,125.36 years. It is a great solar cycle which is soon to come to an end on the the 21st December 2012, which also happens to be a time when the Sun crosses the summer solstice. Sadly, a Page 24
The Aquarius rising of a paradigm shift in world consciousness (Painted by talented Australian artist, Chris Badger)
Mayan cycle of 1,872,000 days or 5,125.36 years is based very much on a huge solar cycle that even our well-informed scientists have very little understanding of. Mayans were, after all, Sunworshippers! Still, it does become interesting that the Mayan prophecies predict that “a higher understanding will begin” which is certainly akin to what we have just put forward in this article with these powerful Aquarius energies creating a ‘paradigm shift in world consciousness’. Also worth noting is that Aquarius is a zodiac sign directly opposite to the zodiac sign of Leo and Leo is ruled by the Sun! It seems that this huge solar Sun cycle is coming to an end just as the opposite energies of Aquarius are now coming to the fore, which makes perfect sense to me! By the way, these powerful paradigm shifts in consciousness have nothing at all to do with any particular individuals or group/s purposely creating these changes! I hope all you politicians and world leaders can begin to see or hear this. If you do, then don’t go blaming Wikileaks and Julian Assange or others for your own selfish problems! This is simply Mother Nature’s (Gaia’s) cyclic energy at work, which is now demanding equal justice for all - including her animals! So beware, if you feel or think that you have the right to forcefully subjugate or mistreat others (including animals) on this planet, because these powerful Aquarius energies will sooner or later severely reprimand or squash you into Mother Nature’s dust. This very same Aquarius shift also applies to Mother Earth herself. Gaia, as she is also referred to, needs to be treated with equal concern as she will not put up with humans polluting her for much longer. It is well past time for us to start living in a far more symbiotic relationship with her because, you see, Gaia is very much alive as a living sentient being! ** © 2012 Peter W. Whitewood Dip. The Oxicon
The artificially intelligent lexical system
I
n October of 2010, a seminar, featuring a new *lexical system called Oxicon Technology, was held at Curtin University. For example, by adding ‘Association Paths’, the Oxicon can enable the user to navigate within the language atlas to any required location, to any word group. These construction techniques make the Oxicon a new style of lexical system and enable it to be developed into a variety of practical applications to such areas as language processing, data acquisition systems, search engines, and elearning technologies for language learning. As a professional writer and lexicographer, John had become frustrated with the limitations and inadequacies of the dictionary and thesaurus. Astrology: the sacred art by Neil Giles

T
he priest, the soldier and the prostitute are reputed to represent the three oldest professions in the world. However popular this myth may be, it is incorrect, for there is a fourth ‘oldest’ profession, one that may be even older than the ancient institutions of the Church, the Army and the Brothel. This fourth profession is that of the astrologer. Believe it or not, believe in it or not, astrology has been around since the beginning of the ‘civilized’ world and in all likelihood astrology originated long before human beings began to live together in cities, which is the actual meaning of the word ‘civilization’. Astrology has served, in one way or another, the other three antiquarians of Church, Army and Brothel. The astrologer has been a priest in some cultures. Great soldiers in history have consulted the astrologer. Generals of the ilk of Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar sought the guidance of the stars. As far as prostitution is concerned, the astrologer has no doubt dallied with doxies, hobnobbed with harlots and consorted with courtesans for one reason or another but has also arguably prostituted the venerable art of this elder science by filling Sunday Papers and Women’s magazines with entertaining daily forecasts. In fact, there is a traditional astrological discipline for daily forecasting, though this is by nature general in that it must cover the activities of one twelfth of the population for each forecast. However, it is also important to note that not all astrologers practise the art well, but instead scatter a mishmash of marketable clichés and pithy phrases as a sop for the demands of editors and the readership – twelve little paragraphs, all in a row. Furthermore, it should also be noted that actual astrologers do not always write the forecasts in magazines and newspapers, so what is written is thus not astrology, no matter what the papers call it. You have to read the label before you know the worth of the goods. Page 28
ASTROLOGY IN HISTORY
D
espite the clouds of modern-day scepticism, astrology does have a long and estimable history. The greatest thinkers and philosophers of Greece and Rome were astrologers. In the Elizabethan and Stuart eras in British history, every trained physician was an astrologer. The greatest herbalist in the history of medicine, Nicholas Culpeper, was a gifted astrologer. Galileo Galilei was both astronomer and astrologer, when he was not distracted by threats of torture from the Church for the act of looking through the right end of the telescope to claim our solar system was heliocentric, not geocentric. Sir Isaac Newton was an astrologer and an alchemist while busily at work inventing calculus and having fun beneath the apple tree by discovering the laws of gravity. Napier, the inventor of logarithms, was an astrologer. Even in the body of the Catholic Church that has decried and condemned the art of astrology in recent times, many popes prior to the turn of the first millennium AD used astrologers to reveal Heaven’s will as they also used sorcerers to summon the spirits of the dead to consult with upon matters of moment. Two great Catholic theologians, Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas saw the practice of astrology as consistent with a belief in God. Nonetheless, the Church still damns the ancient art and many modern Christians believe it to be the devil’s work. Science has taken a hand in the proceedings as well. The ‘Age of Reason’ relegated Astrology to the realms of superstition and even today many scientists take obsessive and irrational delight in pouring scorn upon its practice in order to disprove it, a thing science has not yet accomplished. Regardless of such assaults, astrology is resurgent in the current era. For anyone who buys books, magazines or newspapers, watches TV or surfs the net, there are readings, predictions and astrological services of all kinds, readily available. Every island of information in the endless stream of ‘dot.coms’ across the worldwide web has a daily blast for each sign of the Zodiac. Despite the fact that
many people claim not to believe in it, astrology is more than ever a subject widely written upon and widely read.
WHERE DID IT BEGIN?
T
he first people to tabulate the movements of the Sun, Moon and planets against the backdrop of the Heavens were astrologers. From this parent science grew the child we know as astronomy. Whether they like it or not, modern astronomers owe the origins of their craft to astrologers. The Sumerian people of five thousand years ago were the first practitioners of astrology known to accredited history, though it is clear many of the ancient peoples were keen and skilled heavenly observers – even if nowadays we do not understand how they made their observations, or how they put them to work. However, as we still cannot cure a common cold nor explain how the bumblebee flies in direct contravention to our laws of aerodynamics, this lack of understanding may not be as much of a condemnation of the sacred art as science and sceptics would prefer. The intent and function of the ancient practice of astrology has always been to divine a relationship between humankind and the natural world. The ancient peoples first used the science of astrology to make forecasts – predictions about the future – but soon developed the sacred art into a tool that could be used to understand the individual nature with its tendencies and abilities, weaknesses and strengths. They did this by making a map of the human psyche based on the map of the Heavens at the time of birth. They also used astrology for vocational and psychological counselling, decision-making and guidance, working with the understanding that there are natural cycles and patterns to the operations of the universe that can be read by reading the relationships between the various living and moving bodies. Just as there are beneficial times to plant, to sow, to harvest, to clear land, so there are beneficial times to plan, to review, to begin a new project and to marry. This does not mean that these events cannot take place without these auspices. Quite the contrary … we can do as we like, but there will be a cost. The farmer who plants out of season will harvest a poor crop. Astrology does not control our lives, but the heavenly movements symbolized in astrology help to shape us as they shape our circumstances. They do this in accord with the pattern of unfolding movements in the cosmos of Page 29
which we are a part. Now, more than ever, we bear witness to the cost of trying to bend the seasons, all living things and the Earth herself to our will. How high must those costs become before we begin to analyse seriously our relationship with the time it takes to do something and the expectations created by the technology of the modern era?
THE MODERN REVOLUTION
W
e live in a world that was to be revolutionized by the introduction of chemical insecticides and fertilizers. Yet, while we have barely begun to come to terms with the damage inflicted on the Earth and the human constitution by the myopia of such thinking, we surge ahead like hyperactive children forever racing to the shop for more sugar-coated treats. Now, we are toying with cloned animals and cloned human beings, experimenting with a diet of food that is grown artificially, chemically enhanced and genetically engineered. Isn’t it time ‘forward planning’ came to mean a period of time marginally greater than the duration of a television commercial break? How safe is the high-speed technology of creation, destruction and dissemination in the hands of a culture that has had artificial light for little more than a century and has still arguably not come to terms with its impact on the human and animal community? How much are the current stresses on both individuals and societies in the modern era a function of the fact that artificial light has simply given us so much more time to fill. As a consequence, we race from one diversion to the next, sublimely ignorant of the possibility that darkness may have given more release to the human psyche than we realized. These are not in themselves criticisms of technology so much as they are part of a critique of a style human behaviour evident in the modern world, one that tends to forgo serious analysis of long term impact for the sake of immediate gratification, profit or apparent release from boredom. Are we to continue doings things simply because we can?
THE CHEMICAL TRADE
O
nce upon a time, we searched for evidence that a new food or medicine did no harm before introducing it. Now corporations demand absolute proof of the harm such things do (usually by people dying) before they will consider
taking them off the market. It is now considered mandatory to take a drug to deal with pain rather than simply treat the condition that causes the pain, based on the belief that in the modern world we do not have time to stop for nurture and healing. We have pills and potions that can suppress the symptoms of almost any condition known to man, woman or beast, yet we still cannot allow ourselves the three things most important for the healing journey... rest, inner work and attention to the spirit. Are we going to keep buying the lie that suppressing symptoms is more important than treating the cause because it takes less time? Are we going to end by having our children believe that taking painkillers and having warm milk on packaged breakfast cereal are genuine life choices? ‘Get over it’, ‘Put it behind you’ and ‘Soldier on’ are catch phrases that scream from every advertising campaign, be it mainstream or ‘new age’. However, it is instructive to remember that the phrase ‘Soldier on’ is one that sends troops to the front line to be shot, coined by a commanderin-chief who never set foot in the trenches. Why does everything always have to go faster? Why do we always have to put the bar higher? Why must profits always increase? How much of ‘more’, ‘better’ and ‘higher’ will ever be enough for the addict, desperately trying to fill in the waking hours gained by turning on the lights? If we keep seeking the unreachable pinnacle of the supreme achievement, will we ever know the sublime embrace of being in harmony with the web of life? Is a simple existence lived in tune with the cycles of nature somehow worth less than the life of a multibillionaire or an athlete who can run a hundred metres in less than nine seconds? Enough questions … when will we take time to consider the answers?
IN HARMONY WITH TIME
A
strology is a tool through which we can learn to live and work in harmony with both the environment and with time itself. It is a tool by which cycles of time can be perceived in a way essentially different from knowing the date because we go online to read the newspaper or check the emails, or because it is only two hundred and three more shopping days until Christmas. Astrology is an intuitive art and a sacred science that can illuminate something of our nature and purpose as beings. Astrology will not make decisions for us. We are the ones who must think and act, but astrology can Page 30
inform our choices and guide our hands by showing what is possible and when it becomes possible. The essential point to remember is that astrology is a sacred art. Thus, it can give us a sense of taking right action in a situation, moving in accord with the patterns of a greater power or presence.
THE WHEEL TURNS
I
f the Heavens reveal that Neptune, the mystic planet, squares the Moon in your birth chart you may gain greatly through attention to spiritual and creative matters, but there will be frustrations or delay, especially with emotional and domestic matters. You will need to take things slowly, being cautious with major decisions, perhaps reflecting on the past and discerning lessons from the patterns there. You may be prone to selfdeception or deception by others. You may be confused, tired or experience ill health. Above all, you will not be able to forge ahead regardless of the consequences. No amount of positive thinking will alter this advice yet, if you follow it, you can gain in understanding. You can treat it positively but you cannot alter its influence. The challenge of Neptune is as if you are moving through fog. If you run, you will fall or lose your way. Yet, if you feel the path ahead, opening yourself to sense or perceive things in a different way, you will discover new parameters in your world and a new kind of journey. However, in doing so, you may have to give up goals or beliefs that were previously important to you as part of the journey of change. So too, if Saturn moves into opposition with Venus in your birth chart, you will need to re-evaluate where you are with money and relationships. You will encounter obstacles. The burden of responsibility will eclipse the search for pleasure. You will be restrained from having what you want and may experience a separation or perhaps disaffection in primary relationships. You will have to take the views or actions of others into account whether you agree with them or not. You will have to deal with the consequences of the past and past action. It does not matter how high you set your sights or how much you push yourself, you will still have to deal with such issues, negotiating in a careful and patient manner until the path ahead is clear. These two are examples of challenging aspects. There are of course positive aspects that free us to enjoy, aspire and strike while the iron is hot. If Jupiter conjoins Venus or the Sun, you will forge ahead with joyful opportunity. If Uranus
harmonizes with Mercury, your mind will be charged with excitement and new ideas. The point is that our best course is to act in accord with the influences, not pretend they do not exist. Thus, astrology in the end is a paradigm that requires focus and belief in order to gain its greatest rewards. A basic acquaintance with astrology can prove to any open-minded person that it works, even if we do not quite understand why. A deeper acquaintance will teach us that we are entering a paradigm of faith, not in astrology as such, but in a connection with the Source of all-embracing consciousness from which we come and to which we all must inevitably return. On this journey, sometimes there will be suffering and sometimes joy. To believe that the unabated happiness of having what we want is the right of all is a childish notion. However, to know the joys of embracing each turning of the wheel, regardless of what it brings, is the way to the enlightenment of the mind and the illumination of the spirit.
THE SACRED SCIENCE
A
strology is a sacred science. Its disciplined study reveals the right path by revealing the turnings of the wheel of life. To act as the Heavens reveal is to take right action, acknowledging the sacred in each moment. Some come to the art of astrology knowing these truths. Others come, fearful that somehow their lives will be taken over. However, if we put aside such fears, then astrology is one means, one of many, by which the greater truths reveal themselves. If we live in accord with their behest, we can experience liberation of spirit through the knowledge that we fulfil our part in the patterns of the sacred dance. One of astrology’s greatest lessons is that some of the best things are worth waiting for. The best peaches come from a tree in the height of summer. No amount of impatience will change that, nor will science culture such fruit from chemicals, controlled conditions and genetic engineering. Another of astrology’s greatest lessons is to teach us that the gravest consequences of any human endeavour will only make themselves clear in time, be that one moment or one century. How long is a unit of time in this regard? We may not know now, but the future will certainly tell us. With the sacred art of astrology, we can read such a future before it occurs and make another choice. © 2012 Neil Giles Page 31

elcome to Student’s Corner. From time to time we will be presenting our readers with the opportunity to learn the basics of one of the New Age modalities such as Astrology, Numerology, Tarot, the Runes and perhaps with popular feedback, even more. We will start with the fundamentals of astrology, in this and forthcoming issues of Aurora, which any future astrologer worth their salt needs to have a very solid grounding in. As a matter of fact even seasoned astrologers can sharpen their fundamental knowledge on astrology as will be presented from here on in. The following lessons are based on the former ASA (Australian Society of Astrologers, Inc.) “Certificate of Astrology” level - the ASA primarily existed for more than 10 years as a teaching society. If one continues with ongoing lessons than it becomes essential to include and use a Midnight Ephemeris and a Scientific Calculator - for calculating birth charts (or popularly referred to as horoscopes). It is also recommended (although not essential) that the International and American Atlas’s be included
and used! Still in this day and age it’s perhaps simpler to buy astrology software that does any and all such calculations for you - we recommend that you use ‘Solar Fire Gold v8’ - go to: www.esotech.com.au Here and in the following issues we will endeavour to be as graphically-informative as possible with step by step drawings all the way through, which will allow the use of not only the intellectual left brain but also the abstractincorporating right brain hemispheres, in turn obviously allowing anyone to learn that much faster through greater visual impact. On this premise I would therefore strongly recommend that each issue of Student’s Corner be read and studied a minimum three times, as much greater and additional absorbing of knowledge will be experienced each time. Astrological information and symbolism is as rich as any world language and it is therefore essential that our participating reader/students become adequately conversant with the language (basics) of astrology. © 2012 Peter W. he Twelve houses are formed because of the Earth spinning on its Axis once every 24 hours as shown in illustration 2 (next page). The same way that the (apparent) twelve month path of the Sun sets up the mainstay and powerful 12th harmonic zodiac signs (illustration 1 & 2 - next page), so does this 24 hour spinning cycle set up an additional 12th harmonic type “house system”. We therefore have this represented in a two dimensional chart by having the 12th harmonic zodiac wheel superimposed (as shown above on the outer rim) by the 12th harmonic type house system (inner wheel). The difference between the two, however, is that zodiac signs are always equal in size, because they are derived from a singular cyclic point - 0 degree Aries, unlike the twelve houses which are derived from trisecting the four quarters (shown later) which are in turn defined by the Earth’s Horizon and Meridian and are mostly unequal in size. Page 41
A
The clockwise turning zodiac wheel
s you can see above, the twelve astrological houses are super-imposed over the twelve zodiac signs, and, as the twelve houses are based on the Earth spinning around (anti-clockwise) once every twenty four hours, the twelve zodiac signs can therefore appear to be in many different positions; depending, of course, on the time of day that the natal birth chart was cast (the twelve houses are hence always drawn in the same format, as shown). The super-imposed Houses chart always stays in the same place simply because, just like our Earthbound view, it’s the Zodiac signs and planets that appear to be moving around us; even though we all know that it’s actually the Earth that is spinning around on its axis once every twenty four hours. This is the reason why zodiac signs change position, via the fixed houses chart, approximately once every two hours — twelve zodiac signs divided into twenty four hours gives us two hours.

Henry Student
H
ere is an actual natal birth chart (courtesy of Solar Fire) of a make-belief individual. Let’s call him Henry Student, born on a fictitious birthdate of the 23rd of July 1987 at 2:27pm in Adelaide. As you can see, the super-imposed (generally unequal) houses intercept the (always equal) zodiac signs at precise degrees and minutes — there are thirty degrees in each outer wheel zodiac sign and sixty minutes in each degree. The planets, as shown by the symbols*, are also shown in exact degrees and minutes of their respective zodiac positions and are therefore simultaneously shown to be in different houses which now gives us a true and readable “Natal Birth Chart“. *Planetary symbols will be interpreted at a later time. t is essential to memorize the twelve Zodiac Signs with their symbols and positive and negative harmonic influences - shown here in an easily discernable format. Positive and negative alternating signs are a direct result of the high and low points of the 12th harmonic wave patterns as shown earlier page (Diag 1). Positive means that the zodiac signs attributes are more showing, outward or outgoing in the expression of their particular energy. Whereas negative (which doesn’t reflect bad) means that the Zodiac Signs attributes are more quiet, selfabsorbed or inward in the expression of their particular energy. I think another more appropriate expression for positive and negative signs might very well be “Yin and Yang signs“. Page 44

When to make those important decisions Your personality (day) numbers THE LUCKY POTENTIAL OF DAY NUMBERS
A
ll the numbers One (1) through to Nine (9) have a strong affinity to certain days of the week. Another way to put this is to say that they harmonise to certain days of the week, as shown below:
1 - 4 Resonates to Sunday - The day of Sun/
Leo, Uranus/Aquarius
2 - 7 Resonates to Monday - The day of Moon/
Cancer, Neptune/Pisces
9 Resonates to Tuesday - The day of Mars/
Aries, Pluto/Scorpio
5 Resonates to Wednesday - The day of
Mercury/Gemini/Virgo
3 Resonates to Thursday - The day of Jupiter/
Sagittarius
6 Resonates to Friday - The day of Venus/
Taurus/Libra
8 Resonates to Saturday - The day of Saturn/
Capricorn
The numbers 1 - 4 and 2 - 7 are interchangeable and harmonise together. The numbers 3, 6 & 9 are interchangeable and harmonise together. The number 5 will harmonise with any other number, especially 1. The number 8 is unique to itself and hence relates to developing strength and independence.
T
he day of a person’s birth (e.g. 3rd) is strongly identifiable with one’s personality and environment (as opposed to the life-path or inner character numbers, where the full birthdate is added together, which will be explored in another issue). Whenever important decisions have to be made or appropriate actions taken, it is important to pick certain days that harmonise with the day that we are born. To give you an example: Let’s say that I was born on a three day (21st) and an important career decision Page 50
had to be made. I would purposely pick a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday (which resonate to the numbers 3, 6 and 9 as shown in the earlier table) and would make sure that one of those particular days falls on a 3, 6 or 9 number ( the 3rd, 12th, 21st or 30th ; the 6th, 15th or 24th or the 9th, 18th or 27th of the month). This would guarantee me that whatever career decision I make on the appropriate day would most certainly be the correct one. Hence, I would be going with the flow of Mother Nature instead of against it. Although there have been many times when I felt it was wise to put off making decisions on particular viable dates by waiting for the next appropriate harmonising date. These postponements also invariably turned out to be correct decisions.
A
similar action can be taken when purchasing a new house or finding a new residence or home to rent. For instance, if you were born on the 16th of a month (7 day) then the address numbers 7, 16, 25, 34, 43, 124 etc. would suit you best. Or the interchange of the numbers 1 - 4 and 2 - 7 etc. would most certainly be an environment that has a harmonising influence on you. Some people would intuitively pick this up as a place that has a good feeling about it. © 2012 Peter W. Whitewood Dip. ASA
THE LUCKY POTENTIAL OF DAY NUMBERS
The Runes - wisdom of the past Part one by Neil Giles
“I
t is a mistake to assume that events far apart in time are thereby separate. All things are connected as in the finest web of a spider. The slightest movement on any thread can be discerned from all points in the web. Brian Bates, The Way of Wyrd.
THE RUNES - WISDOM OF THE PAST
W
e live in a time of spiritual searching, one where we reach for knowledge from the past as eagerly as we seek what is new and unknown. On such a path, the modern era has seen the renewal of the great traditions of spiritual wisdom, astrology, numerology, tarot, magic, the way of wiccan and pagan, reviving that which may be forgotten in the collective mind but remembered in the collective spirit, tapping into deep-rooted memories of the land and the Web of Life. The evolutionary impulse of the age pushes us hard and, as a society, our inner urgings, curiosity and karmic links or connections move us deeply, calling us to grasp such knowledge again, seeking it both intuitively and analytically, with an understanding drawn from hidden memories and their echoes. The open heart and the open mind serve us in this. Knowledge from the past reminds us we have lived before just as it speaks of what has enduring value, crossing the span of mortal years to awaken a sense of a greater life within. Amongst the ancient traditions that have been reborn is that of the Runes, remembered through the tales of the Vikings and the Norsemen.
THE VIKING TRADITION
M
any of us will have found joy in childhood by reading the legends of the Norsemen, in particular tales of Odin, Loki and Thor, gods of this early sea-faring folk who hailed from a world born in the meeting of fire and ice. These ancient gods were the Aesir, ruling the Northern climes from their home in Asgard, leading lives filled with wondrous adventures, love, betrayal, battle, poetry and feasting. They fought with one other, with magical beasts and also with their traditional enemies, the frost giants, awaiting the day of Ragnarok, the last day of gods and men Page 51
when a conflagration of flood and fire would sweep across the final battle of good and evil, leaving only devastation. The Earth would then lie ruined, awaiting the coming of Baldur, the fairfaced shining god of the Aesir, whose resurrection and return from his sojourn in the underworld would bring redemption and new life. This story will have a familiar ring, as such a myth resounds in many cultures. The joy you may have found in the half-remembered tales of childhood might have renewed itself in adult life with a modern runic divination kit or one of the many modern publications about the Runes. Nowadays, there are various works to aid both reader and student in catching the flavour of the Runes, though not all of them have reliable levels of accuracy or clarity. If this has been your story then, whether you know it or not, you are already steeped in an important tradition of western magic, philosophy and spirituality. The Runes may also have come to you by other means, without the stories to start you on your way. A set of Runes is an item of magical power and, as such, it will present itself in a moment of need as an unexpected gift, intuitive purchase or accidental find. Whatever the case, you might have developed a passion for them, working with them regularly or even professionally for a while, or you could be just using your Runes from time to time, idly examining past events and future possibilities, often startled by their accuracy. You might have found the Runes, but initial interest has waned and your set sits gathering dust on the shelf, confusing and mysterious. Perhaps the Runes have not come into your life at all, remaining a soul memory, latent or hidden in the unconscious. Yet the ancestors who walked the path of Rune Magic long ago will have written those patterns into your unconscious, inscribing them in the earth of your body. Thus, when and if a set of Runes does come, you may use them to awaken the magic that lies within.
CASTING THE RUNES
W
hat images do we have of casting the Runes? Perhaps you see a bearded Viking, with an axe, horned helmet and a bag of Runes
bouncing on a muscular thigh as he leaps from the long ship. Perhaps you lean to the wise woman, warts and all, bearded, raven on shoulder, bent upon a fire, inhaling acrid smoke and uttering obscure poetic prophecies, punctuated with insane cackling. In history, the Runes have had bad press from religion and the religious establishment, Holy Church naming them the ‘devil’s alphabet’, tainting their image to leave us cowering in fear before a spectre of black magic that blasts us with curses and unholy spells, as we set ourselves for an apocalypse of wickedness, ill omen and catastrophe. We can, of course, move beyond such fantasies and simply use the Runes for pertinent questions, predictions and insight … functions they can well fulfill, but this still leaves us with the question of what we do know of runic tradition.
RUNIC ORIGINS
T
he Vikings did not originate the Runes but were latter day users of a Rune system consisting of sixteen visible characters or symbols, and two hidden ones, used in magical work. These, the Viking Runes, grew from an earlier system evolved by the Teutonic or Germanic folk. We cannot say exactly who the Teutonic people were as the name was bestowed by Rome, deriving from a Celtic word meaning ‘tribe’. If you find this puzzling, that Rome called the Germans by a Celtic name then note that Rome called the Irish the ‘Scotti’, while the Scots were actually Gaels, originally from the Rhine. In addition, the inhabitants of Britain during Rome’s ascendancy were actually Celtic, later supplanted by Angles, Jutes and Saxons, with a splash of Norman blood after 1066, the Normans being Norseman that had settled in France. History is marvelous but confusing sometimes. This earlier system of Runes was an alphabet of sacred symbols, linking spoken and written words to a secret mystic tradition whose geniture is lost to history. There are many early examples of runic symbols, but the term ‘Runes’ generally refers to a symbolic letter system devised by the German peoples before the birth of Christ. Though there is dispute as to exactly how and when they found their origins, it is clear the Runes are at least two thousand years old. There is a surviving jewelry artifact known as the ‘Meldorf brooch’ that has runic symbols engraved, the brooch being dated to the year 50 AD. It is unlikely the engraver would have left such a mark without a background Page 52
of craft and tradition as the foundation. Older designs in stone support this view.
THE ELDER FUTHARK
W
e call the earliest form of the Runes the Elder Futhark, the word ‘futhark’ derived from the first six characters of the Runes in sequence, ‘th’ being regarded as a single letter. The Elder Futhark is a series of twenty-four characters, each Rune being a symbol with a mystic meaning, each Rune having a name to be spoken or written, each Rune correlating to a letter in an alphabet. Three major runic alphabets evolved from the Elder Futhark. First, as we have seen earlier, there is the Younger Futhark, a ‘sixteen character’ system used by the Danes and Norsemen from 800 AD on, remembered as the Viking Runes. The second system is the ‘twenty-nine’ or ‘thirty-three’ Rune Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, developed about the same time by the Saxon invaders living amongst the peoples of Britain. Finally, there is the ‘eighteen character’ Armanen Futhark, developed at the beginning of the twentieth century as part of a runic revival. Each one of these contains signal variations of sound and symbol, so it is important that they are not treated as interchangeable.
THE MYSTIC TRADITION
T
he Elder Futhark is a system of sacred symbols, language and mystical tradition. As such, the Runes of the Elder Futhark are the keepers of a cycle of mysteries. As we came to know each of them through meditation and a magical focus on their symbolic shapes, the Runes reveal their secrets. The word ‘Rune’ means both a secret and to whisper or to roar. This tells us the Runes have their origins in a culture that first passed on its traditions orally, in song and chant then later came to write them down. Though the Runes form an alphabetic sequence, they are essentially ideographic rather than alphabetical. In other words, they were encoded in symbol to make known a series of ideas or principles rather than simply function as building blocks in verbal or written communication. For the ancient peoples to chant a name was to invoke its magic and so it is with the Runes. As we chant their names, the magic comes like a roaring wind then whispers their secrets. Through the Runes, the mysteries of life reveal themselves. Through the Runes, we create a dialogue of living sound with the environment in which we live, seen and unseen.
While many modern sets of Runes have an additional twenty-fifth Rune, a blank Rune, it is important to note this is an invention of modern commentators and is not a part of the authentic tradition. The ‘P’ rune, Perthro or Peord performs the function given by modern commentators to the blank Rune, representing the unknowable, a journey to the unknown and the risk we must take in embarking on such a journey. Thus, Perthro holds the key to a mystery at the heart of Rune Lore, the Rune Cast itself. Perthro is both the act of casting the Runes and the well of consciousness from which we drink as a seeker. When we cast the Runes, we draw the waters of knowledge and inspiration from a sacred place, the Well of the Fates or the Nornir. These are the Three Sisters, spinning the webs of past, present and future, webs that bind all life together. They are the Fates that set new patterns in place then cut the threads when the time is come to end a pattern. In Teutonic myth, we know this as the Well of Wyrd and the Nornir are the keepers of the well.
THE NORNIR
T
he Nornir or Weaving Women of Teutonic spirituality play a paramount role in the mythology of the Runes, binding and unbinding the very fabric of existence. Odin himself, the All Father, ruler of Asgard and giver of the Runes is subject to the power of the Three Sisters, Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, a triple Goddess of ancient times. Urd is the oldest and she rules the past. Verdandi is the middle sister, ruling the present. Skuld is the youngest and rules the future. Their work, the tapestry of fate, we read in the Runes, as much or as little of it as it as is properly made known to mortals. Remember, the ancient peoples used the word ‘fate’ differently from the way we are accustomed to use it today. What we have done or not done in the past creates our present condition - that is the runic concept of fate. In the present, we experience the energy of past choices, ours and the choices of those with whom we are bound. This comes about through what is known as ‘orlog’ or the layers of our Wyrd, a central theme in runic spirituality and crucial to our understanding of what it is to work with the Runes. We are radiant beings, pouring energy into the world around us, drawing energy from the environment, from others and from our own inner resources. Thus, action taken or not taken Page 53
literally creates layers of energy that adhere to us and influence present conditions. Our fate is this energy field layered around us through decision, action or inaction, thinking and feeling. It is thus bound into the web of our being and not a force from outside us that takes control as we look on, though it can appear so! It is our Wyrd, a living and vibrant web of force that fills us, surrounds us and links us to the Web of Life. To know ourselves we must know the forces within our Wyrd. Those who give kindness will receive kindness, for it is their Wyrd. The impatient driver will crash into angst or accident, for it is his or her Wyrd. Macbeth (in Shakespeare’s play though not in history) faced an army to defeat him and an enemy to slay him, all made through his own treachery, betrayal and murder … it was his Wyrd. If we do not recognize our fate then we have not taken responsibility for our lives. In present choices, we meet past selves, in this life and from one life to the next. If we own them, we change our lives through self-mastery. If we disown or deny these past selves then fate becomes a force outside with which we will struggle. If we fight ourselves, who wins? The gift of the Runes is to open these layers, to unravel the complex threads and show us how we have arrived where we are. The Runes are teachers, disclosing the true nature of past action, urging courageous self-honesty in facing the issues then offering the gifts of choice and change through powerful insight. Through the Runes, we glimpse the Web of the Three Sisters and discern something of its pattern, so beginning to undo the knots and tangles then retying the threads to bind a new and different path. When we draw from the Well, we are not simply predicting the linear development of a future that grows directly from where we are now. Rather, we are looking at how our current situation has grown from roots in the past and what we must do to fulfill what we have begun or to change direction in any degree. Sometimes we must change the way the past has affected us before we can earn a new future. When we sit with our Runes, preparing to cast them or lay them for a reading, we keep alive a tradition thousands of years old. We are poised on the edge of the known, preparing to commune with the hidden forces of this world, ready to entrust ourselves to the unknown. In this way, each of us becomes a seeker, ready for initiation, preparing
to give what the journey asks of us. There is not just the Wyrd of the individual, the creator, but that of the group, the community, the planet, the universe, the hive of creation. This vast sea of consciousness is the divine principle, that which transcends the individual be they animal, human or god. More than two thousand years ago, the Runes were evolving in a culture that understood the essential paradox of existence, the balance of personal power through self-mastery with surrender to the greater pattern. For the Teutonic peoples, the greater pattern was the Web of Life, the web woven by Three Sisters that even the gods must heed and obey for they are bound within it just as are we mortal folk.
THE LOOM & THE WEB
T
he Sisters at their loom weave the swirling fibres of chaos into order then surrender their fabric to the winds of Heaven that return the pattern to primal chaos. The Sisters call us endlessly to the dance of life, the passage of death and the renewal through rebirth. Here we find a primal image of spiritual understanding. Here, in ceaseless weaving, we discover the pattern of the Wyrd in a moment in time and take our next steps. Then, in the next moment, the Wyrd has shifted for we have shifted and so we move on. The Runes are not simply a fortuneteller’s tool, rather they are the hammer and diviner of the Wyrd. The Runes are part of a system of spiritual beliefs older than Christianity, as complex and beautiful as Hindu or Buddhist thinking, a system that embraces reincarnation and rebirth, that holds the Web of Life as central and sacred, a system steeped in a magical tradition where responsibility for one’s own acts and destiny is the core of existence. When you use the Runes you do not just read the future, you participate in its creation by linking with the past and building on past effort or even changing your path or destiny. When you draw the Runes, you draw water from the well of magical power, the Well of Wyrd. When you cast the Runes, you give yourself to the Web of Life and its everchanging patterns. art Two in next issue.

Interview with Monét Medium / Numerologist
M
onét wil periodically feature in this and future articles of Aurora. She is a well known Medium and Numerologist who has made a number of appearances on radio and television, especially in Adelaide where she currently resides. Our Editor C. J. Birt has interviewed her here in early March of 2011: CJ: You might have seen on the news? There was an orb of light over Temple Mount in Jerusalem not so long ago. Monét: Actually that’s the first time I’ve heard of it! CJ: It was videoed by a tourist. An orb of light hovering above the main Muslim temple of worship. Monét: Hmm! I think this is finally going to show us life from other planets; they are feeling a bit more comfortable and wanting to get to know more about earthlings and their lives. Maybe I’m saying that wrong. They know enough about us but now feel confident enough to let people know to start believing more that there is life other than here on this planet. The fact that it’s happening there at Temple Mount in Jerusalem... it’s a little bit like that area might become the guinea pig of what is to come, let’s say. It’s not going to be fast! It’s going to be little bits and pieces here and there and that will change things the way they are. CJ: That answers the question I had about, you know, contact from extraterrestrials. Monét: I mean, we don’t know enough about other planets as such and their abilities to do things. I mean, we are a long way behind from actually being able to have a machine hover and being able to disappear faster than the speed of sound. I mean, how phenomenal is that! The information they collect at the time they were hovering and the information they would be picking up, taking and using is unbelievable, in that sort of split second. CJ: Your intuition about 2012, about what has been written and said about the end of the Mayan Page 56
Calendar on the 21st of December 2012. What is your intuition about that time? Monét: Hmm! A lot of people have been saying that’s the end of the world as far as the information that I have received. It’s not the end of the world as such! It’s the end of the world in the way things were. You just can’t keep going on with technology and everything the way it’s going. There is going to be a huge crash of some sort, and that means everybody has got to get back to basics, though it’s not quite horse and cart time. But it’s too many people doing too much for their own sake and their own use. CJ: For their own ends? Monét: Yes, for their own ends. So its got to go back to sharing and neighbour helping neighbour and me helping you and not whatever I can get out of it. CJ: Do you think this will come about through the impact of technology? Monét: Yes, that’s how I think it will be. It’s a little bit like, what is it that we had recently? CJ: A solar flare? Monét: Yes, it’s going to be like a solar flare type of thing that will affect a lot of networks and a lot of associated things. CJ: In the sense of forcing people to communicate differently? Monét: Absolutely. Forcing people to communicate differently. Having to go back to.... I mean, just have look at the price war that is happening with milk. The big Coles and Woolies stores, just to mention a couple, who have the monopoly on just about everything. It needs to go back to... everyone is entitled to having their fair share. It has to go back to where do you get your basic food from to feed people? Forget about computer skills and other similar abilities, we are
all going to have to grow our own vegetables so that we can survive and go back to the basic things that everybody can do instead of depending on others. And too many people depend on everyone else! The big companies are presently reaping the rewards from everyone being so dependant on them. CJ: So do you see humanity kind of.... Monét: I see humanity standing still for a little bit and then having to move forward again. I don’t see this whole place blowing up! It’s not how it is going to be. And it’s a bit like 2012.... (pause) Hmm! It’s all to do with the number two! Look at all of the twos in that date of 21st of the 12th 2012... Okay, in the 1900s the number One(1) was the first thing, which is what has a lot to do with this now! So the One (1) at the beginning of the 1900s was everything. One is a singular number. One is a lonely number! Was it John Lennon who sang ‘One is the loneliest number’? CJ: No, it was John Farnham. Monét: Okay, so in that century everybody wanted and said ‘I’m number one’. ‘I want it all’. That’s why we had so many world wars. Number One is I, me, myself and I. But we are in the 2000s now! So it’s not only me and I. I can’t only look after myself any more. I have to look after you too! So neighbour has to look after neighbour. Every country will also have to look after its neighbour. The 21st of the 12th 2012; look how many twos there are in that date! It’s saying: no longer can I be greedy and do all for myself. I now have to look after everybody else. The compound number of 21 is the number of magic. 21 can make magic. So it’s the magical side of things that will turn around. It could very well be a spiritual awareness that comes about and it all comes from working with the heart. CJ: Okay! Monét: And if you add up the 21st of the 12th 2012 it adds up to a Master 11 number. CJ: And the number 11 is? Monét: A Master 11 number is two Ones standing next to each other, which means I have to care about you. Page 57
CJ: Mutual support. Monét: Mutual support and mutual respect. I am here living on Mother Earth and I have to also start considering Mother Earth. CJ: Starting on a fresh note. I am going to single them out: The United States of America; where to from here? Monét: As you sow, so shall you reap! I just feel that America (USA) is on a downhill run and is hanging on by threads, to supposedly stay on top of of the the tree tree so so to to speak. speak. I think I think America there iswill going make to be it, a lot of down though thereforces is going andtoa be lot aoflot problems of downthere. forces and a lot of problems to solve. CJ: Internally? CJ: Internally? Monét: Internally and from other countries. Monét: Internally and from other countries. CJ: Will there be more ancient writings discovered? CJ: Will there be more ancient writings discovered? Monét: Absolutely! Monét: Absolutely! CJ: Where? CJ: Where? Monét: Believe it or not, I got Asia and New Guinea. Believe it or not, I got Asia and New Monét: Guinea. CJ: And the impact of those writings? CJ: And the impact of those writings? Monét: They are going to be fairly huge! Hmm... and Asia.... Now people are starting to open up. People are asking for help, people are asking for guidance, people are asking for wanting to be happy and all that sort of thing, ok! But it’s also having information and finding the proof of how things were, so that people can believe in something into the future as they get along in life, which is really huge.
at all of the ones, nines and fours having to do with war. It is simply your war number 1! When did the Second World War start?
CJ: Do you see that as people having a spiritual vacuum at the moment anyway?
Monét: When did the depression come in, money wise?
Monét: Yes there is. There is a lull in spiritual values at the moment I feel. And it’s a little like... it needs to sort of open up again and it’s not the second coming as people would say. It’s more of ‘love thy neighbour as you would love yourself’, as one of the old commandments which is what everybody has to go back to. And many people keep saying ‘love is the answer’! Love is the answer! But first of all it’s love yourself and then love somebody else. There are only two emotions in the world, one is fear and the other is love, ok. And fear, doesn’t matter what it is, jealousy or contempt, or whatever it is, anger, frustration of whatever that is, it is based on fear. If you cut that down, dissect it and boil it all down, it will always boil down to the fear of not being loved.
CJ: We had the depression in the 1920s to the 1930s, then we had the oil spike recession in the 1970s.
CJ: Okay.
Monét: In the 1990s everything started falling down around people affecting nearly one and all. Every decade would roughly tell you what is going on, as far as numerology is concerned, as to what is going on in the world. And then the 2000s came along. So you can no longer be a dictator of a country. Look what is happening in 2011 which is really honing in on 2 + 1 + 1 = which is to do with the number 4. Dictators are going to lose their heads. They are going to be off the planet. By next year 2012 is when love starts to come in with our fellow man and what we are doing.
Monét: Okay, so there is only one emotion. CJ: Love! Monét: Yes, and love cures everything! And if you see that in terms of a bigger picture and coming off the back of a decade, fear of radical Muslims, fear of this, fear of the unknown. Yes, because the whole fear that has been running around in the 1900s was the number One (1). So if you looked at the 1900s, 9 is the number of endings of the way things were. So the 1990s is everything to do with finishing things off, with endings of the way things were so you could come into the 2000s, ok. Once you get into the 2000s it normally takes a decade for everybody to get into that new energy, ok. And then it really starts to sit there... Have a look at 1911 to 1914 when the First World War started. And with the numbers 1914, have a look Page 58
CJ: 1939. Monét: Two 9s and and another 1. By the time it got to the 40s the war was full on. Again we’re back at the number 4 with war. What about the 1950s? CJ: The atomic arms race!
Monét: And when did flower power come in? CJ: 1960s. Monét: Funny about that, seeing as the number 6 rules love or the rule of love. 1970s is everything to do with the past that you could work with again and also giving people the space and freedom. In the 1980s there is your 8 number that represents money, stock-market etc. CJ: Yes, the greed is good decade. Yep.
CJ: What affects my brother affects myself. Monét: Absolutely! Ask Monét important questions at: info@starburstpublishing.com.au
(please be aware that we can only handle a certain volume of email, so we can only respond to a limited number - early birds will catch the worms - thanks)
CJ: M
Will there be more ancient writings discovered?
Page 59
onét: Absolutely! It’s just simply going to be found. I don’t know if this will happen in 2012, but I actually feel that it’s going to be discovered by accident, somewhere along the line... Hmm... I see it’s sort of like trees and shrubs, like a forestry type of thing. And it’s almost like it wanted to be found. So it’s pushing its way up to the ground to be found...
A Brief Introduction Into Chinese/Vietnamese Year Signs
O
ne of the most important things to remember with Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs, even though they operate on a larger scale, is that they include exactly the same qualities and values as our monthly zodiac signs. They’ve just had a different cultural upbringing that’s all! The Year of the Dragon is the same energy mode as the zodiac sign of Aries, while the Year of the Snake relates to Taurus, and the Horse relates to Gemini and so on, as listed a little further along. The fundamental principles of astrology work precisely the same way for the Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs as they do for their monthly zodiac sign brothers. The reason there is such a similarity between Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs and monthly zodiac signs is because both operate under the auspices of what is called the ‘12th harmonic’ – read pages 23 and 16 ‘Twelve reasons why there is no 13th zodiac sign’. They differ in that Year signs are more foundational in their attributes and qualities and portend to have an inherently acquired proficiency already established. Whereas, Sun traversing zodiac signs are attributes and qualities that one is trying to additionally attain in this lifetime. Hence, the consciousness principle of the Sun: To continuously become more conscious/ aware of. Equivalence of Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs to monthly zodiac signs are: Rat = Sagittarius; Ox = Capricorn; Tiger = Aquarius; Cat (or Rabbit) = Pisces; Dragon = Aries; Snake = Taurus; Horse = Gemini; Goat = Cancer; Monkey = Leo; Rooster = Virgo; Dog = Libra; Pig (or Boar) = Scorpio Opposing Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs are: Sagittarius/Rat and Gemini/Horse; Capricorn/ Ox and Cancer/Goat; Aquarius/Tiger and Leo/ Monkey; Pisces/Cat and Virgo/Rooster; Aries/ Dragon and Libra/Dog; and Taurus/Snake with Scorpio/Boar Page 60
SIGN POLARITY
I
t’s important for us to understand that each Chinese/Vietnamese Year sign can only work efficiently via the polarity of the opposite sign. As a matter of fact it’s very important that people also learn and absorb the qualities of their counterpart Year sign. Whichever way it turns out, it is always of prime importance to eventually establish or find an equitable balance between the energy modes of the two opposing Year signs. Once this balance is achieved—which can take a lifetime with some people—there is a far greater chance of finding ultimate success, fulfilment and happiness.
I
n the following very basic interpretations of Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs I would recommend that my readers also read the opposite or polarity of their particularYear sign, as in: The Year of Gemini/Horse with the Year of Sagittarius/Rat; and the Year of Cancer/Goat with the Year of Capricorn/Ox, and so on – as listed further on. By the way, another really important point or theme to mention here is that this symbiotic and closely relating relationship of opposing Year signs especially applies to any and all areas of employment, profession, career or even a particular position in life. For instance: the entertainer quality of Leo/Monkey can most assuredly be expressed through a person born in the Year of Aquarius/Tiger; and in turn, the inventive and humanitarian directive quality of Aquarius/Tiger can most certainly be used by a person born the Year of Leo/Monkey. When, for example, we look at the Monarchlike qualities of Leo/Monkey, this can also most certainly be exercised by a person born in the opposing Year of Aquarius/Tiger, as with Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, born on April 1926, in the Year of Aquarius/Tiger and the element sign of Fire. So you see, this particular juxtaposition of career, position in life or even just an avocation, applies to all opposite and therefore symbiotic Year signs and must always be taken into consideration!
A
nyhow, at this point it’s time that we first take a look at the basic key meanings of the twelve zodiac Year signs, as in the Chinese/Vietnamese animal signs, and show the amazing parallel in their meaning with the traditional western zodiac interpretations. In later issues of Aurora we’ll explore these Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs much more fully. Traditionally, Chinese/Vietnamese animal signs start with the Year of the Rat which is the Year of Sagittarius. Opposing Year signs are: Sagittarius/Rat and Gemini/Horse; Capricorn/Ox and Cancer/Goat; Aquarius/Tiger and Leo/Monkey; Pisces/Cat and Virgo/Rooster; Aries/Dragon and Libra/Dog; and Taurus/Snake with Scorpio/Boar There are also five Chinese/Vietnamese element signs which we shall explore in future issues. Your Personal Year Sign Forecast - in the Year of the Dragon
A
s mentioned in the previous section, it is always important to work with the symbiotic relationship of opposing Chinese/Vietnamese Year signs which includes any forecasting endeavours. This is why the following predictions are presented with dual or counterpart Year signs (Find out your Chinese/ Vietnamese Year sign in the previous section).
Combine your Personal Year Sign Forecast with your Personal Horoscopes starting page 32.
Year sign emphasis: In this the Year of the Dragon - 2012
T
he Year of the Dragon (Aries), and its polarity sign of the Year of the Dog (Libra) always puts a strong emphasis on personal and all other face to face relationships, which needs to be taken into account when reading and absorbing the following information.
F
or people born under the Year signs of the Horse (Gemini) and the Rat (Sagittarius):
T
he broad but influential onus this year is on learning about, making or establishing community connections; and, in the process, trading and teaching higher learning awareness principles—a time of communicating and learning, doing courses, travelling or simply becoming much more aware. These community-learned connections/awareness principles will revolve around the need to pioneer new communicational dimensions in life—especially with children and partners. [Note: I’ve often found that many people and budding new Authors start writing literary works, books and some will even launch magazines, and that teachers start teaching in this Year of the Dragon.]
F
or people born under the Year signs of the Goat (Cancer) and the Ox (Capricorn):
T
he broad but powerful emphasis this year is on the emotional confrontations and transitions that have to be made from time to time regarding home, parents, family and a particular trade, career or profession—maybe as simple as leaving home and/or getting a new job. The emotional confrontations and transitions would focus in on improving, and, perhaps pioneering various, new partnerships and other important (home-life) relationship issues. [Note: I’ve found, in many cases, that these emotional confrontations and transitions this year can at times set of heavy innate depressions for people born in these year signs. This can come about through repressed and past-unresolved emotional difficulties and problems—particularly via early home-life—that need to be brought to the surface by being aired and released, especially through counselling.] Page 64
F
or people born under the Year signs of the Monkey (Leo) and the Tiger (Aquarius):
T
his year the broad but powerful emphasis is on goal achievements and rewards—or a possible redefining of goals—through past and present creative endeavours. Also a time of giving and receiving love and affection through a particular new romance or other friendly liaisons. The creatively endowed goal achievements, rewards and friendships would also focus in on past and present challenges in regards to partnerships, marriage or perhaps even with enemies. [Note: Many people will experience, not only the birth of children, but also the birth or coming into reality of past ideas that can now rewardingly spring up for people born in these year signs.]
F
or people born under the Year signs of the Rooster (Virgo) and the Rabbit/Cat (Pisces):
T
his year there is a mainly broad but powerful emphasis on the [re]generating and evolving of personal, as opposed to other people’s resources and value perspective’s—and especially how this reflects on the self-worth or self-esteem profile. The resource and value perspective’s will focus in on pioneering and establishing new relationship endeavours, that will in turn create better financial and new (self) value directions in life. [Note: I’ve often found that this year will focus on a person’s health. It’s as if Mother Nature is saying to this person, ‘You must look after your most valuable possession,’ which is, naturally, your body and its health.]
For people born under the Year signs of the Dragon (Aries) and the Dog (Libra):
T
his year there is a broad but powerful emphasis on a shifting or refocusing of one’s own personality to (new) environmental and relationship activities. Times of challenging interactions with people, partnerships or even enemies. The personality and relationship profile will focus in by reinforcing the important need to actively pursue such challenging relationship activities. Or even at times to break away completely from existing ones. [Note: I’ve seen many partnerships and relationships either start or break up—sometimes both—which can happen now for people born in these particular years.]
For people born under the Year signs of the Snake (Taurus) and the Boar/Pig (Scorpio):
T
he broad but powerful emphasis this year is on chaotic or dissolving conditions in life that, through discipline, need to be changed, fixed, improved on or maybe even just simply let go of—a time to fight the hidden enemy within, with needed changes in health and/or work. [Note: This time is also unique in that it focuses more on the dissolving of old outworn ways and lifestyles— not always easy to do—in readiness for new and better ones.] Page 65
