Social Work Scotland Conference and Exhibition 2024 Wednesday 25 September 2024, Glasgow Technology and Innovation Centre, Strathclyde University, Glasgow
WORKSHOP APPLICATION PROCCESS This year, our theme is ‘Developing a leadership for the future’, acknowledging the challenges social work faces, and also the context in which we’re all working. We’re keen to hear from anyone exploring:
professional leadership development and support; acknowledging the unique role that social work leaders play and the skills and experience needed to balance social work values and managerial demands in an integrated landscape, the role of social work leaders in the quality of professional development, and how organisational culture and leadership can create and enhance this; ranging from role of Chief Social Work Officers in overseeing and promoting excellence in social work practice, to tools available to help improve the quality of supervision and development, and building future leaders now; scanning the near – and further - horizon to equip, enthuse and inspire current and potential leaders with what they’ll need to support and progress the profession now and into the future We’re particularly keen to encourage collaboration and workshops which provide delegates with space to connect with each other and discuss issues reflectively. We are unable to accept ‘showcase’ presentations, where there are no clear implications or learning opportunities for professional social workers and leaders.
THE PRACTICALITIES We hope to run 7-9 workshops (depending on submissions), which will be repeated in the morning and afternoon. You should expect to arrive no later than 10am, and workshops will conclude by 3pm. Workshop presenters will receive complimentary access to the rest of the conference, this is limited to 2 per workshop to allow for planning. We expect around 350 delegates, and they will be asked to pre-book spaces on workshops. We will make decisions on minimum delegate numbers based on the format and topic of the workshop. One workshop will take place in the auditorium, giving room for up to 100. If any workshop doesn’t receive any sign up, those delegates will be diverted to the auditorium workshop. All workshop spaces will be set up for you to bring your own laptop for presentations. Please indicate in the form below if you will need support with travel and expenses. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 1 March 2024. We’ll notify you in the first two weeks of March and will expect to meet with prospective workshop presenters throughout March and April to develop and finalise the content, so that this can be published for delegates in the summer.
