Call to dob in a road By NATALIE GALLENTI

KOROIT MP Marlene Kairouz is calling on the State Government to fix the condition of roads across Melton and Brimbank. Ms Kairouz is encouraging motorists to take action and nominate roads that have become dangerous, fallen into disrepair and need fixing with the launch of the www.FixOurRoads.com.au website. Ms Kairouz said Labor had launched the website to tackle what it sees as the continuing “shortchanging” of families in the Western Suburbs when it came to making local roads safe. The call came before one man died and four were injured in a twocar crash on the Western Freeway in Melton West on Friday morning. A green Toyota Camry travelling towards Ballarat crossed the median strip and collided with a while Holden Commodore travelling towards Melbourne. The Camry was carrying four men, and the sole occupant and driver of the Commodore was also a male. The front male passenger of the Camry died at the scene. Up to 11 paramedics were called to the scene, with the injured taken to The Alfred hospital. Ms Kairouz said Melbourne’s

West had copped a decrease in funding of $40 million or an alarming 27.3 per cent. “The total of Napthine Government funding for maintenance and new roads has fallen in Koroit from 2012-11 to 2012-13,” Ms Kairouz said. “Our local roads are falling into disrepair and becoming a safety hazard for motorists because of these Napthine Government funding cuts.” “Koroit deserves better than a Government that won’t provide the basic infrastructure that people in Melton and Brimbank need to ensure travel times are effective for business and therefore a strong local economy.” Melton City councillor Sophie Ramsey agreed that the state of roads across the municipality needed urgent attention. Cr Ramsey said Melton Highway continued to be a “huge concern” for motorists and required “big dollars” to make drastic improvements, while the state of Gisborne Melton Rd also required immediate attention. “I think you could name almost every road (in the municipality) ... but as drivers we need to be more mindful of conditions and road rules,” Cr Ramsey said.

Magical show hits stage TALENTED pupils at Cana Catholic Primary School in Hillside will sing, dance and act their way along a yellow brick road later this month. Sean, Kiara, Isabelle, Kayla and Olivia will star in The Wizard of Oz on 28 November. The Hillside students will take to the stage at 6.30pm in the Catholic Regional College hall in Sydenham. Performing arts teacher Melissa Evgeniadis and co-producer Miranda Kydd said 90 students auditioned for 15 main parts in the show. 109262 Picture: JOE MASTROIANNI

Lakers lining up on premier pick By ADEM SARICAOGLU ON THE last Saturday of September, Brian Lake brilliantly led Hawthorn to its 11th premiership and picked up a Norm Smith Medal along the way. Twelve months earlier, and still a Western Bulldog, he was sitting in the MCG stands watching his future teammates lose the 2012 decider to Sydney. But as the Caroline Springs Football Club’s number one ticket holder and now first member of the Lakers Legends coterie group, Lake has been busy helping his local club raise some

funds to upgrade its facilities. Last weekend Lake was the star of the show at the club’s Ready Steady Jump family day, while a few lucky Hawks fans got to pose with the premiership cup and bid for the shorts and socks he wore in the grand final at Brookside College last week. “With football clubs you’ve got to be able to turn some money over by having patrons in the place,” Lake told Star. “The facilities and the bar area for games is just not quite big enough for the team, so I’m trying to help get some better facilities there as

quickly as possible.” But Lake has become more than just a poster boy for the Lakers. During the season, the All-Australian defender could be seen working the scoreboard on a spare Saturday afternoon or on Sundays wielding the flags as a goal umpire. And while Lake still believes he has a few good years of AFL footy still left in him, he could well come on board as a Lakers player in coming years. But he’s not making any promises just yet. “I’ve still got to make them work hard for it,” he quipped.

MELTON parents are being encouraged to attend a free information forum later this month with a view of creating resilient families. It’s hoped guest speaker on the evening, renowned clinical adolescent psychologist Andrew Fuller, will offer parents a greater insight into the importance of fostering resilient children. City of Melton mayor Bob Turner said the forum was an opportunity for parents and the community to attend an informative and engaging presentation that would have a range of benefits for the whole family. “This forum is an opportunity to learn how to instil resilience in your children and promote a happy and healthy family life,” Cr Turner said. “The session will provide you will tools to communicate effectively with your children and teach your children how to work their way through life’s challenges.” The parents-only event will also host local youth service workers. Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Melton City Council’s reconnect workers on 9747 7200 or kirih@melton. vic.gov.au by Monday 25 November. The forum will be held at the Melton Community Hall, 232 High Street Melton, on Thursday 28 November from 7.30pm to 9pm. The forum is supported by Melton City Council and the Collingwood Football Club.

Measuring meter thefts By NATALIE GALLENTI THEFTS of water meters continues to be a problem across Melbourne’s West, according to Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Jenks from Melton Police. Det Sen Sgt Jenks said while a number of offenders had been charged in relation to a spate of thefts, they continued to occur

throughout the municipality and neigbouring areas. He said scrap metal dealers are refusing to purchase these items and it is hoped this will result in making it less attractive for offenders to steal them. Police are continuing to ask for public assistance in relation to these incidents.

Meanwhile, unoccupied and display homes have yet again become the target of thieves. Earlier this month an unoccupied rental property in Luxor Drive, Plumpton, was broken into and items including a dishwasher, hot water service, oven and washing machine were stolen. And a display home in Peppermint Grove, Taylors Hill, was also broken into.

Det Sen Sgt Jenks said the offender was not deterred by an audible alarm and remained in the premises long enough to locate and steal a television. The offender was observed arriving and leaving the scene in a light coloured dual cab utility. Anyone with information should contact Melton CIU.

Beating violence

Prison opening for new jobs

MELTON City Council last week took another positive leap in keeping women and children safe within the community. At last week’s ordinary council meeting, councillors unanimously adopted the Preventing Violence Against Women and their Children Strategy 2013-16. In moving the strategy, Councillor Kathy Majdlik said the council was at the “forefront” and a “leader” in this field. In a report presented to the council, it was

revealed that Australian Bureau of Statistics research suggests that one in three women have experienced physical violence in Australia. The report also states that VicHealth has attributed intimate partner violence as the leading contributor to death, disability and ill health in Victoria for women aged between 15 and 44 years old. Data also revealed that in the last year, reports of family violence have increased by 40 per cent in the City of Melton, in line with the increase across Victoria. The report states that “though this (increase) demonstrates the community better understands

the issue of family violence and have confidence in police response, which is encouraging, the lever of family violence in our community presents an ongoing concern”. The Melton City Council Preventing Violence Against Women and their Children Strategy 2013-16 proposes a new framework for action to facilitate an action-based approach to preventing family violence and is guided by four preventative strategies including strong partnerships, services creating supportive environments, council as a violence prevention leader and an informed and vocal community.

MELTON City Council will continue to advocate for local employment opportunities as the new Ravenhall Prison Correctional Facility is constructed. At last week’s ordinary council meeting, councillors unanimously adopted a motion to receive and note the new facility’s development plan, while continuing to support local job seekers. A report presented to the council indicated the new prison will be located to the west of the Deer Park Bypass within the existing correctional facility precinct at Ravenhall, adjacent to the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and the Metropolitan Remand Centre, The prison will accommodate 1000 prisoners, and construction is due to commence in 2015 and be completed by 2017. The report stated that “the new prison will benefit Melton’s local economy”. “The new prison will create more than 650 jobs during the peak construction period and over 600 direct jobs once operational.” In September this year, Victorian Premier Denis Napthine said the new medium-security prison would be among the largest correctional facilities in the country in a bid to cope with rising prison numbers. “Over the past two decades, there has been significant growth in the Victorian population and, therefore, prisoner numbers. To meet this growth, we are investing in more beds and planning for the future,” Dr Napthine said.

‘Diggers’ left disappointed By NATALIE GALLENTI

Fire safety day for all families By ALESHA CAPONE LIEUTENANT Will Fenech knows residents of the urban fringe in Brimbank and Melton must remain aware of fire danger. Mr Fenech is a volunteer officer with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Caroline Springs and Hillside. In February, he helped fight the blaze which razed more than 2000 hectares and threatened homes in Epping. Mr Fenech said the risk of a wildfire or grassfire starting on the urban fringes in the West remained a serious threat in warmer weather. “We had the fires at Epping at the start of the year and that could easily happen here, we’ve

been very lucky that is hasn’t so far,” he said. “Don’t become complacent and think it can’t happen here.” Station officer Peter Higgins said residents needed to keep their yards and fencelines tidy to help minimise the fire risk. CFA members will be imparting the fire safety message at a family fun day at Bunnings in Caroline Springs on Saturday 23 November. Mr Fenech said CFA members in Caroline Springs and Hillside were often called to automatic alarms, house fires and car accidents. He has been with the CFA for almost six years and as a trainer assessor, he also teaches the brigade’s new recruits.

“I think it’s, for me, finding a place I could do good and also be part of an organisation with tangible results which helps people,” Mr Fenech said. Mr Fenech even met his girlfriend, from another CFA branch, at a training course. He encouraged other residents aged over 16 to think about joining the CFA. “You get a lot out of it, if you’re willing to put in,” he said. The CFA family fun day will be on from 9am3pm Saturday at Bunnings, 1067-1125 Western Highway, Caroline Springs featuring fire trucks, face painting, craft, a jumping castle, hose bowling for children and a cake stall. See www.cfa.vic. gov.au to find out more about volunteering.

MEMBERS of the Diggers Rest community are disappointed with the preliminary proposals of an ongoing Local Area Traffic Management study conducted by Melton City Council. At a meeting of the Cambridge Coburn and Watts Residents Association last week, Diggers Rest residents voiced concerns over what they see as a lack of consultation with the community and the possible number of speed humps that might be implemented. CCWRA president Nathan Miles said residents believed the proposed traffic changes would significantly change the established areas of Diggers Rest and “turn it into speed hump city”. Mr Miles said residents were also concerned with the number of parking bays that would be lost on Welcome Rd. He said the group unanimously passed a motion to call for the immediate suspension of the LATM due to the lack of consultation with the community and serious community safety concerns. The group is calling for a community forum to be hosted by the council. Melton City Council has not made any decision to implement the proposals presented to the community. The closing date for survey responses was yesterday.

CONSTRUCTION has begun on a landmark new education, training and economic development facility that will support and encourage new enterprises and ongoing business growth in the City of Melton. The Western Business Accelerator and Centre for Excellence (BACE) will create an environment where emerging businesses can have access to information, facilities and support that will help them grow their business. City of Melton mayor Bob Turner launched construction by turning the first sod of soil on the project. Cr Turner said the opportunities created by Western BACE would support business growth and further employment options for local residents. “The Western Business Accelerator and Centre for Excellence represents a collaborative, multi-million dollar investment in the future of Melbourne’s West,” he said. “Council is committed to encouraging business growth and enterprise start-ups throughout our municipality, and we want to ensure our residents have access to the best training and education to help them in their careers. “The City of Melton has a large number of home-based and micro businesses and the centre will provide them with the opportunity to expand and by supporting them, we are supporting local jobs growth.” It is hoped the Western BACE will also help boost liveability within the area by ensuring population growth is matched by job opportunities.

Gifting cycles of change this Christmas VICTORIA Police is throwing its support behind a bicycle project that will see young offenders refurbish old and unwanted bicycles and then donate the finished product to the Sunshine community. Old bikes have been donated by Caroline Springs police and will be refurbished by offenders, who will restore the bikes under the guidance of expert bicycle mechanics and community corrections services staff. The finished bikes will be presented to young people at Christmas time as part of the Department of Justice’s ‘Fix the Cycle’ project. Community work program manager Stephen Cadman said young offenders, aged between 18 and 25, would work with a trained bike mechanic at weekly workshops and build on their skills and abilities. “It will allow young offenders to learn useful mechanical and team-

work skills helping provide a pathway to future employment opportunities,” Mr Cadman said. “This is about providing offenders with a better chance of avoiding future contact with the law as well as a way to recycle these otherwise unwanted bikes for a great cause.” Participants in the program are on parole or court orders to perform community service and have been identified by community corrections services as suitable for the 12-week program. Brimbank youth resource officer Senior Constable Sammy Stevens said police were keen to support an initiative that enabled young offenders to learn valuable skills and give back to the community. “All the bicycles we are handing over to the program today have been donated by Victoria Police and local residents,’’ Sen Const Stevens said. A CAROLINE Springs resident is hoping to make his mark on the stage in his latest performance for the Williamstown Musical Theatre Company. Jayson Fry will play Tiny Tom in the dark comedy Urinetown - The Musical, and said he was looking forward to playing the role of the childlike man whose character slowly developed throughout the play. A primary school performing arts coordinator by day, Jayson, 39, has been

working both on the stage and behind the scenes since he was a university student and said he one day hoped to land himself a leading role. Jayson told Star one of the most enjoyable aspects of performing for him was the rehearsal procedure. “I really love the rehearsal process, pushing myself and learning new things,” he said. But it is when he hits that stage that he comes into his own. “It’s hard to describe the buzz, every-

thing is very heightened ... the adrenaline is amazing.” Having had ensemble roles in theatre productions like the Full Monty and Bye Bye Birdy, Jayson said audiences were sure to love this latest musical. Describing it as a “dark comedy” with a poignant message, he said audiences would be left asking questions and pondering the future of the environment when the curtains close. “It’s not the most appealing of titles, but I think if audiences give it a go, they’ll love it.”

MANNING ESTATE

BIG BLOCKS, GREAT VIEWS FROM PAGE 1 SENSATIONAL panoramic views of the township, Macedon Ranges and right as far out as Melbourne CBD are on offer now at Manning estate in Bacchus Marsh. Manning estate, located on the north side of Bacchus Marsh in Darley, is an established estate having been progressively developed over the past 20 years. All blocks are in excess of one

acre or 4000m2 in size and many million dollars homes have been built there. Home buyers may consider building on a hilltop position at the highest residential point in Bacchus Marsh with full services available including underground power, water, telephone, sewerage and national broadband network ready. The current release includes

nine lots in stage 1 of the final 40 blocks to be developed at the estate at the end of Manning Boulevard. Subdivision works have been completed on Stage 1, and all blocks are ready to build on now and available block sizes range from 4032m2 to 5638m2. A building site cut has been done by the developer for Lots 5 to 11 inclusive, saving purchasers up

to $30,000 in site costs. Home buyers can enjoy the peace of mind of having a restrictive covenant in place to protect their investment. There is no minimum building time which is ideal long term investment and plenty of room to build a substantial size home and shed. Parking space is also no problem for a truck, caravan, trailer or even a boat.

Enjoy a country lifestyle with city convenience living 45 minutes to Melbourne CBD by either car or the new high speed rail link. It is also a quick 10-minute drive to the newly expanded Woodgrove shopping and retail complex in Melton. Contact Greg Bettiol on 1300 425 263 or 0411 876 316 for further details or onsite inspection.

AUCTIONS DOMINATE IN NEW SALES BOOM MELBOURNE turned in a solid set of residential sales results over the last two weekends with a bumper crop of homes sold at auction. Melbourne’s clearance rate of 72 per cent for the first half of this month was derived from 925 auctions reported to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria. The strength of the market is evident not only in the volume of auctions being held and the clearance rate, but also in the level and type of bidding activity. With a clearance rate of 72 per cent so far this year, the majority of properties auctioned are sold. Some of the biggest deals of the weekend sold for close to their reserve prices. Two bidders competed for 3 Rostill Court in Toorak which fetched $3.02 million, only slightly over its $3 million reserve and nearby 21A Albany Rd, a singlelevel three-bedroom townhouse, is understood to have sold for more than $4.5 million. Land sales were the big earner in the Western Suburbs with 2 Clark St in Williamstown closing at $1.56 million while lot 2/48 Elphistone St, Footscray topped the bargains list for $250,000. REIV CEO Enzo Raimondo said that vendor bids were commonly made by an auctioneer on behalf of the seller to get the bidding started or during the auction to protect the seller’s reserve price. “By law, the auctioneer must announce when a vendor bid is being made,” he said. The share of auctions being passed in on a vendor bid has shown

ESTHER LAUAKI

the most improvement. So far this year, around 16 per cent of properties were passed in on a vendor bid compared to 26 per cent last year. This decline shows that there has

been a lot more bidding activity from potential buyers as opposed to an auctioneer using a ‘vendor bid’. “There is clearly an increase in the level of open competition

DISPLAY & LAND

at auctions lately and this can be measured not just through the clearance rate, but also in the way the property passed in,” Mr Raimondo said.

DEER Park has pulled off another recruiting double strike, this time signing former Carlton defender Bret Thornton and former Western Bulldog Ryan Hargrave. The news comes just weeks after the Lions also signed Hawthorn premiership player Brent Guerra. Hargrave was drafted by the Western Bulldogs in 1999 and proved to be one of the club’s best late selections after slipping to pick 66. He went on to play 203 games before finishing his career in 2012. In 2013 he joined Essendon District Football League side Hillside and helped the club win the division three premiership. Thornton was drafted in the 2002 national draft and played 188 games for the Blues. He spent the majority of his time on the backline but also swung forward on occasions, kicking 30 goals throughout his career. After finishing at the Blues in 2012, Thornton played one game for Greater Western Sydney in 2013 before retiring. Deer Park president Mark McGoldrick said it was great to have someone of Thornton’s calibre on board. “Contrary to what people think, we have got a lot of younger guys ready

to come through and we just think, we want some leadership up the top,” McGoldrick said. “We want a few guys who know how to finish and make sure our kids are being taught the right way. “Bret was very eager to come over and it was just a matter of working through a few things with his time commitments. “Hopefully in the next two or three years he will finish his career with us.” Deer Park coach Marc Bullen said he expected Thornton to play forward next season. “Last year we probably struggled in that key forward position,” Bullen said. “Bret has expressed a desire to play up forward and I am more than willing to find a position for him there. “Last season our defence was first class and we think we have the coverage down back to really nullify sides. “We have a few guys up forward now who can kick up between 70 and 100 goals each and there aren’t too many key backs in the league that are going to be able to match up on the players that we have got up there,” Bullen said. “I am very excited to be coaching this group again next year.” The Lions will kick off pre-season training in the coming weeks.

Ryan Hargrave (shown playing for Williamstown) will line up at Deer Park next year. 84828 Picture: DAMIAN VISENTINI

James Sicily DOB: 06/01/1995 Junior club: Keilor d Position: Midfielder/Forward 2013 Average Disposals: 19.13 (16 games) Torin Baker says: “He’s a high forward that has the capabilities to really hurt you with his marking strength, but in saying that I really think that one of his strengths is he’s just such a versatile player.”

James Sicily out-marks his Calder Cannons opponent during the TAC Cup finals series. 105187 Picture: DAMIAN VISENTINI

JAMES Sicily emerged as the Western Jets’ leading AFL draft candidate during the 2013 season. Across 16 games for the Jets in the TAC Cup this year, the 18-year-old Keilor product regularly featured among the stand-outs and managed to kick 26 goals, 11 of which came from a four-game burst through April and May. His form and promise was good enough to warrant selection for Vic Metro in the national championships, where Sicily averaged 14 disposals and seven marks. But it wasn’t Sicily’s ability to generate numbers that has led to his emergence as one of the real wildcards in this Thursday’s draft. Rather, it’s the wide variety of boxes he ticks both as an athlete and a natural footballing mind that has Jets coach Torin Baker confident Sicily will get to an AFL club this summer. “I think he’ll have a successful AFL career,” Baker said. “He can play a variety of roles at AFL level. “He’s kicked nearly 30 goals in the TAC Cup this year which shows he’s good around goal, so I think he’ll probably start as a forward and further into his career he’ll be able to play a midfield role.” It remains somewhat of a mystery just where Sicily is best suited on the field. Most of those who should know best believe his strong overhead ability makes

Sicily a formidable key forward option, while others are well aware of the value he brings into the midfield. Sicily himself isn’t entirely sure where he fits best, but he does have a preference. “With the Jets I was playing in a key forward role, which I’d never played previously,” Sicily said. “But I do see myself as a midfielder more than a forward.” Baker regards Sicily more as a highly versatile utility. “He’s a high forward that has the capabilities to really hurt you with his marking strength, but in saying that I really think one of his strengths is he’s just such a versatile player,” Baker said. “He can play on the wing, he showed he can play an inside role and I’ve got confidence that he could play as a half back flanker or something like that as well.” Not originally noted for his speed, Sicily surprised everyone at last month’s national draft combine with a 2.84-second 20-metre sprint - the fourth best overall. All that remains now is the nerveracking reveal of whether an AFL club is willing to enlist his services for 2014 and beyond. “I’m quite excited at the moment but the nerves will definitely kick in come the day of the draft,” Sicily said. “I think I’ve done enough (to get drafted), but there’s still that element of doubt as well.”

Jets take on other routes By ADEM SARICAOGLU

Johnny Rayner in action for the Western Jets back Picture: SARAH MATRAY in 2009. 30808

WESTERN Jets region manager Shane Sexton has been pleased to see the increased progress of footballers seeking alternate pathways into the AFL in recent years. New Essendon recruit Johnny Rayner recently added his name to the growing list of former Western Jets who eventually found their way onto an AFL list despite being overlooked at the draft. In another promising sign, Brett Bewley, Jake McKenzie, Harley Walshe and Lachie Hickey, all Jets in 2013, have been snapped up by Williamstown in the VFL. But while Sexton acknowledges the recent influx of matureaged recruits has made it harder

for kids to enter the AFL system through the traditional draft pathway, he still believes the majority of new recruits will come out of the under-18 system. “I think clubs are still looking for guys that can play league footy,” Sexton said. “Sure, the readymade players are going to be a bit more advanced than the 18-year-olds these days, but the bulk of the kids are still going to come out of under-age footy and particularly the TAC Cup.” Three Western Jets from the class of 2013 look to be in the running for a chance to land on an AFL list during this coming draft period, which begins with this Thursday’s national draft on the Gold Coast. Leading the Jets charge will be

versatile utility James Sicily, who offers a strong mix of physical ability and footballing know-how on the park. “James is a very talented player, and very skilful,” Sexton said. “He’s got the capacity to do things out of the ordinary and does it regularly. “At different times during the year he proved he can go through the midfield, clearly he can go forward and be really dangerous, he’s exceptional overhead, he’s a good kick and he’s got a terrific capacity to read the game.” The Jets’ only other Vic Metro representative in 2013, Jake Greiser, also has plenty to offer as an inside midfield option, according to Sexton. “He’s right up there and he’s really good with his hands, which

Saints fail to shine in run chase By ADEM SARICAOGLU ST ANTHONY’S failed miserably in its chase of Riddell’s declared 4/399 in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup on Saturday. The Saints were given little, if any hope of getting close to their target on day two of play at Riddell’s Bullengarook Reserve and by game’s end could not even hit three figures on the scoreboard, getting rolled for 99 to lose by an even 300 runs. Darren MacRae battled hard with the bat to score 42 but with

little help from his team-mates, St Anthony’s never got close and remains last with just one win in the McIntyre Cup after five games. However things are looking much rosier for Bacchus Marsh, who sits second on the table after scoring win number four on Saturday. The opening day of play proved to be a fruitful one for Bacchus Marsh, who chose to have a bat in the familiar surrounds of Maddingley Park against a visiting Romsey outfit. A 140-run partnership between

skipper Scott Wakefield (85) and Justin MacDonald (88) led Bacchus Marsh to a formidable total of 280, which was reached for the loss of seven wickets. On Saturday it took Bacchus Marsh only 42 overs to get through the Romsey order, with Mark Hooper (3/14), Rhys Watson (3/22), Brenton Payne (2/11) and Nick Strangio (2/23) all causing havoc for the visitors. Romsey could only manage 77 runs and was hence sent back in for a second dig, in which it made 4/110 by stumps.

Kieran Atkin, who wasn’t given the ball in the first innings, claimed three of the wickets, while Watson added to his three wickets from earlier in the day with another one for the loss of just eight runs in five overs. This week will mark the start of the GDCA Twenty20 season, with St Anthony’s and Bacchus Marsh due to meet tonight (Tuesday) at Melton Recreation Reserve. On Saturday the two will meet again for the start of another twoday game, also at Melton Recreation Reserve.

Rothacker Medal to Graeme Lang VETERAN Meltonian Graeme Lang was awarded Victoria’s highest honour, the Gordon Rothacker Medal at a gala function held at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday. Now in his eighties, Lang, originally from Watchem in the Mallee, has had some wonderful horses through his hands over the years including champion squaregaiter Scotch Notch and the multiple winning Billboard, also a trotter. Other smart ones were Sheffield Thor and Persistency and Victorian Oaks winners Ashputtel and Super Gift. Still active in the sport, Lang trains a small team nowadays and has not considered handing in his driver’s licence. AT Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday, David Miles was successful with honest five-year-old Art Major/Play Ball filly Paint Ball, taking the SEW-Eurodrive Pace for M0 class over 2240 metres. DAVID Aiken’s all American bred five-yearold Ken Warkentin/Kovel rig My High Expectations was a brilliant winner of the time honoured $20,000 (Group Three) Glenferrie Farm Chris Howe Trotters Cup for TMO or better class over 2240 metres, leading for most of the trip in accounting for stablemate Cold Sister, which trailed after leading out, with Kyvalley Blur third. David also landed the Prydes Easifeed Trotters Handicap for TMO & TM1 class over 2240 metres with Kiwi-bred former South Australian Brylin Crescent.
