Priced out of health checks By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN PEOPLE who might have serious illnesses are beginning to “fall through the cracks� in Geelong, a leading health services provider warned this week. Lake Imaging director Craig Lightfoot said financial pressures on the health system meant bulk-billing was no longer viable for private radiology providers. Mr Lightfoot said private providers were referring patients to public hospitals, which also faced funding pressures and growing waiting lists. “The public services are also referring patients to private providers where costs are higher and people are falling between the cracks,� he said. “It’s a really bad situation.� Mr Lightfoot said government funding shortfalls and cost-shifting were forcing private medical imaging services to pass on rising costs. “We all want quality health care but people will have to con-

A CT scan today is funded the same as it was 15 years ago, which leaves people about $60 out of pocket. “What we chose to do was bulk-bill most concession card holders, accounting for about 50 per cent of patients in Geelong, so we don’t charge the gap but accept the Medicare payment for that service. But the lack of indexation means we can’t continue to run a practice without passing on the cost. “Middle Australia is getting it in the neck by having to pay more and more for their radiology,� Mr Lightfoot said. “It’s getting to the stage now where we are no longer bulk-billing patients and concession card holders have to pay the gap. “The breast clinic in Gheringhap St has got to the point where we cannot bulk-bill anyone. Lyons versus Gooden

City titles fight By NOEL MURPHY GEELONG Mayor Darryn Lyons and union leader Tim Gooden have jousted over Prime Minister Tony Abbott bringing back knighthoods and other mediaeval titles - and neither party granted the other any quarter. “I think Peter Cosgrove and Quentin Bryce are ideal choices. Sir Peter has been terrific and Dame Quentin has been an incredible governor-general,” Cr Lyons said. “I don’t know why titles were turfed out in the first place. They’re not about being royal or republican, they’re about Austra-

lians doing great work for other Australians. “A lot of titles in the British system in the past were based on wealth. I wouldn’t want them based on that in Australia but rather on outstanding services to the community.” Cr Lyons questioned bestowing titles on business figures, celebrities or sport stars for their success alone, taking a swipe at Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, Beatle Paul McCartney and soccer’s title-seeker, David Beckham. “David Beckham is desperate for a knighthood but I can’t see that kind of system in Australia. I think rules and regulations

are extremely important. I don’t agree with titles that are based on wealth or someone’s five million twitter followers. “I think they should be robust contributors and these two have provided great, robust service to country and community.” Trades Hall’s Mr Gooden dismissed the resumption of titles as “a load of crap”. “All it does is make out someone to be better than someone else,” he said. “I think Tony Abbott is doing two things: making a distraction from other laws he’s introducing and stamping conservatism on his whole agenda.”

Rubbish, recycling controlled from Hamilton

Regional body wasted By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN BARWON Region Waste Management Group has been killed off in a State Government reshuffle. The region’s waste management will now be controlled from Hamilton, with Geelong to become part of a nine-council south-western “forum”. The changes could make redundant 10 full and part-time local staff. The Independent understands that Barwon waste group chief executive officer Enzo Bruscella has decided against applying for the chief’s role at the new entity. The Barwon group won numerous

awards for its waste management and innovative recycling campaigns. State Government has reduced the number of waste management groups across Victoria from 13 to seven, almost all in regional areas. A ministerial advisory committee report on the state’s waste and resource recovery structure retained the metropolitan group. But it included Geelong with several south-western councils, stretching to Portland. Geelong’s council this week nominated environment and sustainability portfolio holder Andy Richards as its

representative to the new forum and City Hall services manager Gary Van Driel as an advisory member. Cr Richards, also Barwon Region Waste Management group’s chairman, said council had a “constructive and fruitful relationship” with the group for 20 years. “We want to continue that good relationship with the new entity. “However, City of Greater Geelong is concerned about two issues in regard to the reforms. “First, despite the fact that City has over three quarters of the waste in the new nine council area we’re not guar-

anteed representation on the board of the new entity. Second, the government has stipulated the head office of the new entity will be in Hamilton in western Victoria rather than in or near Geelong where most of the population is. “These two issues are the same for Ballarat and Bendigo councils and I understand they’re equally concerned. Hopefully we can resolve these issues with the State Government over the next 12 months.” The Independent was unable to obtain comment from Environment Minister Ryan Smith before going to press.

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said Labor would deliver on its master plan for the school, which was shelved after the party lost office in 2010.

TAC workshops LOCAL year 11 students will learn how to discourage friends from driving dangerously under a “revamped” road safety program, the TAC has announced. The TAC said schools across the region would host Fit2Drive workshops encouraging students to “positively influence” friends out of activities such as drink driving and speeding.

Storages down THE REGION’S water storages have fallen to 75 per cent capacity despite 13mm of rain in the past week. Barwon Water measurements showed consumption of more than half a billion litres for the week, lowering storages almost one per cent.

Joinery jobs A $230,000 funding injection will help a Geelong joinery create eight jobs, Mayor Darryn Lyons has announced. Cr Lyons said the Geelong Region Innovation and Investment Fund grant to Pickering Joinery would help the firm undertake a $560,000 expansion of its Belmont operations.

Autism centre AUTISTIC children in Geelong will soon have access to a “highly specialised education environment”, according to its operator. Little Learners Autism Program said its “early intervention centre” for children aged one to six years would open in Newtown in May or early June, creating 25 jobs and offering students 20-plus hours a week of classes.

Local blokes put art and soul on display for a week LOCAL blokes have put their souls on display in a week focusing on men’s health and wellbeing. Blokes Week kicked off in Geelong on Monday with the launch of an exhibition “exploring and celebrating male identity” at Courthouse ARTS.

The organisers said the Blokes Spaces and Places exhibition featured a collection of paintings, articles and photos devoted to blokey subject matter. The exhibition was one of a range of male-orientated events and activities around the region for Blokes

Week, covering everything from health checks to music workshops and a footy night. The schedule concludes with a Blokes Day Out Festival on Geelong’s waterfront this Sunday. Festival spokesperson Peter Kelly

Players gathered in the 13th Beach clubhouse after play for awards and a twocourse luncheon, with racing and golf evergreen Rob Gaylard as MC.

Independent managing editor Tony Galpin praised the event. “It was a great day with lots of fun as well as some good – and not so good – golf,” he said. “Everyone in the region will at some time need the services of the McKellar Centre, or know someone who does, so we all benefit from helping ensure it has the best possible equipment and facilities.”

EMOTIONAL claims of betrayal and anxiety are flying as residents petition against the sale of Portarlington’s Ann Nichol House. Bellarine Community Health (BCH) wants to sell the 80-bed aged care facility after assuring the community of its future in February. Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville raised the issue in state parliament this week, calling on ministers to block the sale of the Crown land site in Wills St. Geelong councillors have also agreed to oppose the sale. “I am disappointed that the Government are not moving quicker on this issue,” Ms Neville told Parliament.

“I had provided the minister with the details hours before raising and indicated that they must act urgently to save Ann Nichol House.” Ms Neville said Bellarine Community Health had given assurances at its annual general meeting and again in February that it would maintain ownership of Ann Nichol House. The change of heart, without community consultation, had caused “serious concern and anxiety” among residents, she said. Residents who recently faced the closure of BCH’s 40-bed Coorabin aged care facility at Point Lonsdale felt “doubly betrayed”. BCH chief John Fendyk said his organisation’s primary focus

was its “duty of care to the residents of Ann Nichol House”. “For our loyal and hardworking employees at the site, it is business as usual. In fact, the purchase of Ann Nichol House brings opportunities for the expansion of the facility into the future, potentially creating muchneeded jobs for the Geelong and Bellarine region.” The BCH board decided in 2013 to withdraw from residential aged care. Ward councillor Lindsay Ellis said the community was “extremely concerned” about Ann Nichol House and the impact of any sale on residents’ opportunities to “age in place on the Bellarine”.

Ex-MP puts region in the pictures By NOEL MURPHY GEELONG is no stranger to the focus of cinematic and television lens. It’s been a popular location for all manner of movies, series, film clips, adverts, documentaries and more. Hollywood greats such as Heath Ledger and Mel Gibson have swaggered their stuff across the plains of Lara and Little River in Ned Kelly and Mad Max. Nicholas Cage lit up the dark Night Rider, Baz Luhrman filmed part of his Australia locally, while McLeod’s Daughters and Blue Heelers were also shot in the district. Chris Lilley’s Angry Boys, long-time sentimental favourite Sea Change, rocker Jimmy

Former politician Gavan O’Connor is now joining ranks with them. In partnership with Screen Actors Australia’s John McGlynn, he’s kicking off a new venture the pair hope will kickstart a new level of commercial film and TV production in the Geelong-Otway area. “It has the potential to not only directly employ hundreds of local people and service providers, but to also stimulate a big increase in film related tourism for the area,” Mr O’Connor said of new company

Ocean Road Films. “Tourism is a really sustainable industry for Geelong-Otway and already employs large numbers of people.” Mr McGlynn said the pair had been pushing the area as the best place for film and TV works for years. “We believe Geelong has the locations, light and a lower infrastructure cost that will allow us to be a major commercial production centre for film and TV.” The pair believe they can encourage other producers from Melbourne, interstate and overseas to base productions in Geelong. They said Ocean Road Films had two feature films and two children’s series in development.

Creek housing to crowd Bells

OPENING Spring Creek to developers could threaten iconic Bells Beach, activists have warned. Surfing legend Maurice Cole told other Bells Beach Preservation Society members that Bells needed “protection� from Surf Coast Shire and State Government. “Spring Creek is the gateway to Bells ... we need more than ever to protect Bells with a legislated surf sanctuary,� he said. Mr Cole cited last week’s Government decision allowing Spring Creek residential development in his pitch for signatories to an online petition seeking enhanced protection of Bells. How the opening of some 240

hectares of land along Spring Creek to development will affect population forecasts for TorquayJan Juc is unclear. Current forecasts for Torquay alone tip a population jumping from 10,994 in 2011 to 14,272 in 2016, 17,938 in 2021 and 21,984 in 2026. That’s not counting Jan Juc, which had a population of 3505 in 2011. Mr Cole expected the decision to bring up to 8000 new residents to the area. The shire had forecast Torquay-Jan Juc’s population to reach 22,000 in 12 years without including Spring Creek. “We’ve got all the people moving into Armstrong Creek as well,� Mr Cole said.

Extra fat ‘good for the elderly’ BEING overweight might actually be healthier for the elderly, according to Geelong research. Professor of nutrition and ageing at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus, Caryl Nowson, led a study into the body mass index and risk of death in people aged 65 years and older. Older people with a body mass index (BMI) in the overweight range lived longer, the study found. The lowest risk of death was among subjects with a BMI of around 27.5, considered overweight under World Health Organisation guidelines. Mortality significantly increased in subjects with BMI between 22 and 23, in the normal weight range.

“It is time to reassess the healthy weight guidelines for older people,” Prof Nowson said. “Our results showed that those over the age of 65 with a BMI of between 23 and 33 lived longer, indicating that the ideal body weight for older people is significantly higher than the recommended 18.5 to 25 normal healthy weight range.” Prof Nowson said most older people needed to get off the “weight-loss bandwagon”. “These findings indicate that, by current standards, being overweight is not associated with an increased risk of dying,” she said. “Rather, it is those sitting at the lower end of the normal range that need to be monitored, as older people with BMIs less than 23 are at increased risk of dying.”

Advice on ideal body weight should take into account factors other than BMI, Prof Nowson said. “Factors such as chronic diseases and the ability to move around need to be considered as there is no real issue with being in the overweight range unless it is preventing people from moving around freely. “Rather than focusing on weight loss, older people should put their efforts into having a balanced diet, eating when hungry and keeping active,” she said. “Putting too much emphasis on dietary restrictions also increases the risk of malnutrition in this age group. Malnutrition in older people is not well recognised as this can occur even when BMI is in the overweight range.”

PUBLIC NOTICES AERIAL MOSQUITO TREATMENTS END FOR SEASON 2013-2014 The City’s aerial mosquito treatment program has concluded for this season with a treatment on Wednesday 12 March around Leopold, Wallington, Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. In compliance with Council’s permit from the Commonwealth government, the City is unable to do any helicopter treatments in protected wetlands between 15 March and 15 August each year. This permit protects endangered birds that migrate to the wetlands on the Bellarine Peninsula in the winter months. During the 2013-2014 mosquito season, the City successfully treated larvae in over 1900 hectares of mosquito breeding sites by helicopter. Our monitoring and customer reports showed that we achieved excellent results with low mosquito numbers during the majority of the season.

Katos up the Creek HEARING Andrew Katos on radio parroting Planning Minister Matthew Guy was embarrassing. The Member for South Barwon was politically naïve to ignore significant local opinion and endorse Mr Guy’s overturning of Surf Coast council’s decision on development at Spring Creek. His remarks came after two and a half years in the job, during which time he has hardly registered in the electorate. Indeed, Mr Katos’s local profile hovers around zero. Sure, electors in South Barwon are used to this conduct. Successive governments and local parliamentarians have consistently failed to represent us. The previous member, Michael Crutchfield never wavered from rubber stamping the Brumby government’s policies, however inappropriate. Mr Katos, though ostensibly of a different political persuasion, appears to come from the same mould. Apparently, he has no ideas of his own and, although he is most ably supported by his electoral staff, does precious little toward promoting the concerns of his constituents. The message is clear: we, the electors of South Barwon, can take issue by endorsing candidates who have the guts to promote their local community. C Cameron Belmont

Paying for development CONCERN is increasing in Victoria that government is overruling the public interest in favour of developers. A prime example is Geelong where residential development of farmland makes farming unviable. Whether or not the developments are sustainable or viable in the long-term appears immaterial to State Government. Developing satellite towns far from main towns and cities requires additional transport, community and other infrastructure and increases various costs. The developers develop the land and the rest is sorted out by councils at a cost to tax and ratepayers. Residential blocks closer to towns and cities should be taken up before council approves development of farmland. Alas, large developers have little interest in small developments. When a council does not approve an application all a developer has to do is go to Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) to have the decision overturned. Alternatively, the developer can go to the Planning Minister to bypass VCAT with some city-cen-

Climate claim vaporised IT SEEMS ironic that Allan Barron’s letter in last week’s Independent was headlined ’Stick to the facts’ because if he understood the scientific facts about greenhouse-gas-induced climate change he would not be so deluded. Most readers would recognise the nonsense of most of his arguments but let me expand on just one, which people without a scientific background might not appreciate. Water vapour is a greenhouse gas but, unlike carbon dioxide (CO2), it is not a problem if the average air temperature of Earth does not change. This is because water vapour in the air is in equilibrium in the atmosphere, so if more is introduced into the air it will condense as rain or snow, keeping the total amount of water in the air constant. The greenhouse influence of water vapour never changes if the air temperature remains constant. However, CO2 once generated remains in the air or water and will increase global warming. The real problem is that this increase in temperature caused by CO2 and other organic volatiles will cause more water to evaporate into the air, compounding our global warming problem. Climate scientists are well aware of this and have factored it into global warming predictions. Let us hope Mr Barron and others who still cling to the false hope that climate change is not a reality, will wake up. Don Bartlett Indented Head

VIOLENT neighbours destroyed Cloud Control’s visions of undisturbed songwriting when the band borrowed a house on a small French island ahead of a European tour earlier this year. “The neighbours scaled ladders and threw little rocks at the house until we agreed to stop playing, then smeared dog poo on our intercom - we were nearly stoned out of the house,” vocalist and keyboardish Heidi Lenffer told the Independent. The experience was a rough start to the tour but things could only improve. “Europe is a stylish place to tour - the venues look after the bands with a really generous hospitality,” Lenffer said. “We always turn up to abundant hand-crafted afternoon tea spreads to munch on while we do the unglamorous work of loading in a van full of gear.” After moving to the UK from its home in the Blue Mountains three years ago, Cloud Control impressed European audiences and became immersed in London life. After releasing second album Dream Cave the band is back on the road touring Europe and Australia, with plans to join Metronomy in North America in May and June. “The move was mainly for the practicality of building a relationship with our English label Infectious and giving us easy touring access to Europe,” Lenffer explained. “I still find it remarkable to be able to jump in the tour bus at 7am, be in Paris for lunch and play an evening show in Belgium. Our van has done a lot of mileage. “Living in the community of East London was great for many reasons - everyone walks and bikes everywhere, there’s a flourishing coffee culture,

The Altima Ti-S scores a responsive, smooth-running 3.5-litre V6 engine. It’s a gem. Coupled with a first-rate continuously variable transmission, the combination makes the best of peak power of 183 kW and 312 Nm of torque. The Altima forms the basis of Nissan’s return to the V8 Supercar Championship.

FRONTAL chrome is to the automotive market what white teeth are to the entertainment industry, a sign of quality and style, although both can be irritating if overdone. The new Nissan Altima is a case in point. A swathe of shiny metal up front would not look out of place on a fifties Yank tank but in the 21st century we search for something a little more subtle to show off the pedigree of a car. Wide horizontal chrome slats dominate the radiator intake, a large Nissan badge announcing the car’s arrival. Further chrome embellishments include door handles and side window surrounds. To be fair, the new mid-size sedan is smack bang up to date with its coupe-style aerodynamic profile - giving a co-efficient of friction of 0.30 - and, in the case of our test vehicle, 18-inch twinspoke alloy wheels. LED tail lights put their modern-day stamp on the vehicle. The Nissan Altima is available in four model grades - ST, ST-L and Ti, powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and the range-topping Ti-S with a 3.5-litre V6 under the bonnet. Prices start at $29,990, with an estimated driveaway figure of $33,513, for the entry-level ST, while the Ti-S rounds out the range at $45,390 ($50,784), the latter the test car in which we have spent the last week. The car carries a number of state-of-the-art technologies including active understeer control

Grand weekend GEELONG Cricket Club bowed out of the premier league finals in a heartbreaking loss last weekend. Set 219 to win by Footscray Edgewater, the Cats battled throughout day two. James Crosthwaite (118) led the way against Footscray Edgewater’s 219 but had little help facing a star-studded bowling attack that dismissed the Cats for 194. However, reaching semi-finals was a good achievement for such a young squad, so the Cats have plenty to look forward to next year. Geelong Cricket Association’s division one grand final pits St Joseph’s and South Barwon at Queen’s Park this weekend. St Joseph’s defeated premiership favourite North Geelong to reach the grand final. Batting first, Joeys got off to a great start with Daniel Fanning (39) and Ravi Ravee (29) before wickets steadily fell. The day ended with Joeys on 210, and Leigh Kentish top-scoring with 40. Zac Thorne (4/55) was the pick of the North Geelong bowlers. On Sunday all eyes were on the star-studded North Geelong top order but when Jake Thorne was dismissed cheaply by Sam McTaggart (6/65), the pressure began to build. Andrew Ferguson (55), Sam Hall (32) and Mitch Troy (55) all tried valiantly but when Trent Walerys (3/39) claimed the last two wickets the Magpies were 12 runs shy of their target. South Barwon advanced by defeating a lacklustre East Belmont. The Lions never really got going and finished on 159 all-out. South started strongly but when Brad Hauenstein was dismissed late on day one, the game was in the balance at 3/60. Sam Scannell (4/45) took crucial early wickets but Clinton Peake (47 not-out) ensured South Barwon advanced. Both sides will be desperate to end long premiership droughts but St Joseph’s is the pick to win. In division two, the season’s best sides, Bell Post Hill and Thomson, meet in the grand final at Marshall Cricket Ground. Bell Post Hill had a fantastic win over St Albans Breakwater when late-order runs built a score of 216. St Albans Breakwater also started poorly and fell 46 runs short. Thomson’s win over Marshall was more-methodical, the Tigers batting all of day one to post 182. The Bears started brightly on Sunday until Adrian Saltalamacchia (5/26) lifted, leaving Marshall allout for just 94. Thomson deserves its spot but Bell Post Hill will be hard to beat. In division three, Teesdale plays Shelford at Winchelsea. Teesdale thrashed Bell Park last week, while Shelford won in a thriller. Teesdale looks the stronger side but Shelford might just have the edge.

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN EVERY game is unique but some are more unique than others. At least Geelong coach Chris Scott believes so as his side faces last season’s bogey team, Brisbane. Remember that last quarter fade out at the Gabba where the Lions posted their biggest comeback ever to overhaul a lacklustre Geelong? Or the final home-and-away game when Brisbane threatened to repeat the dose? Perhaps most Cats supporters have filed those matches away in the never-to-be-mentioned-again folder. But Scott said both games involved unique circumstances unlikely to be replayed. “We haven’t been involved in a game like we were last year where we had the game under control and were well on top for three quarters,” he said. “We played as poorly and they played as well as they did in the last quarter but that’s ancient history, it’s so long ago. “Our ladder position was locked in the last home-and-away game and we didn’t play well and still won,” Scott said. “Given the circumstances of those two games, we’ll be treating this one in the appropriate way, which is based on (Brisbane’s) recent form over the pre-season and last week. “We’ve got a lot of respect for

“Adelaide is a pretty good attacking and rebounding team. They remind me of Brisbane in the way they move the ball off half back, so if we turn the ball over in dangerous spots they can really score heavily on the rebound,” Scott said. “I thought for big parts of the game against Adelaide we dominated the play but gave up some easy goals which kept them in it.” Scott said Andrew Mackie, who will play his 200th game this weekend, had become “one of the most respected players at our football club, which is saying something”. “He’s a player his teammates love playing with. When things are tough Mack is typically the player that generates a bit of enthusiasm and brings the players with him.”

Warriors take on Box Hill in NPL By JOSIP ZILIC NORTH Geelong Warriors hosts Box Hill United at Lara’s Elcho Park in National Premier League Victoria round-two action this weekend. The team’s maiden NPL win over Dandenong in round one came at the cost of injuries to skipper Michael Anderson, Michael Grgic, Mark Paleka and Darren Lewis, who missed the Warriors’ subsequent Docherty Cup match against Preston Lions.

Despite a 2-0 loss to the Lions, Warriors Coach Ante Skoko remained pragmatic about the upcoming NPL fixture. “We need to address why we copped the goals and ensure we don’t give the opposition the opportunity to get to the ball first when we’re under pressure,” he said. North Geelong could look to youngster Kristian Edwards, who scored four goals against Dandenong in the under-20s.

The early form of tenacious Vito Cichello is also promising for the Warriors, who have benefited from his forward surges. Box Hill also had a surprise defeat in the Docherty Cup, going down to North Sunshine Eagles in a penalty shootout after beating Richmond 4-1 in the first NPL round. The results set up an intriguing encounter between North Geelong and Box Hill as they seek to consolidate their winning ways in the first round.

VARIABLE winds made fishing difficult over the past week. I fished the coast just past Lorne where big numbers of quality salmon were available on lure. Most fish were well over 1kg. Troy Mann had success at Cinema Point until the tide began dropping and his catches started entangling in heavy kelp attached to the rock ledges. Kingfish were again taken in and around The Rip on jibs, live baits and imitation squid. Corey Dalton fished the entrance to Swan Bay for the first time, using plenty of berley for a catch of 20 fish. Whiting captures were inconsistent. The area between Queenscliff and St Leonards was best. Noel Cunningham fished close in at Bird Rock where he caught whiting averaging 32cm to 34cm just on sunrise. Paul and Martin Maloney drifted the outer-harbour spoil grounds with soft plastics, catching 10 snapper to 3.8kg. Xavier Hope fished soft plastics on Stingaree Bay’s spoil ground, catching lots of undersized snapper and three around 1kg. Paul Henry fished the rocks at North Shore last Saturday night for a 3.7kg snapper on a salted pilchard. He had three other runs that failed to hook up. Grant Thompson fished bass yabbies in the Barwon River estuary, bagging six bream and two silver trevally at high tide. He said an angler nearby caught three small mulloway on blue bait. Bluefin tuna and albacore action increased out wide at Portland. Small skirted lures caught fish, with anglers using a variety of colours to determine the choice of the day. Anglers trolling Lake Purrumbete caught salmon, mostly around 40cm, and small redfin. Ballarat’s Lake Wendouree produced redfin over 1kg and trout of more than 2kg. Mudeye baits and shallow-running lures were effective. Paul Smeaton landed brown trout to nearly 3kg at Newlyn Reservoir on mudeye-pattern flies late in the evening and after dark. Moorabool Reservoir produced mainly redfin on lures fished close to the snaggy bottom. Michael Evans’ persistence at Wurdee Boluc Reservoir was rewarded with some big redfin. He advises that anyone fishing the reservoir will need to make hundreds of casts to catch one of its fabled big reddies. This weekend’s salmon fishing should be excellent between Lorne and Apollo Bay on the morning high tides, while freshwater anglers should try drifting a mudeye out under a float at Lake Wendouree.
