Charity channel for arts support RACHEL Curtis, 15, combined her love of the arts with her desire to support others. And, in doing so, organised an entertaining evening at Belgrave’s Sooki Lounge. Rachel raised almost $2000 when she brought together young musicians and the works of student photographers and artists for her ‘Exhibition for East Timor.’ The initiative was part of Rachel’s Personal Project, a 12-month challenge for Years 9 and 10 students at Mater Christi College. “I learnt so much about organising an event like this including auditions, selection of artworks, promotion, venue arrangements, programming and lots more,” Rachel said. Students tackle various challenges for personal projects and continue to impress their teachers and parents. Deputy principal Julie Feeney said Rachel’s project was one of the many outstanding and diverse examples of the creativity, organisation and perseverance displayed by girls in their projects. “The girls are encouraged to aim high and regardless of the outcome, the learning can be extraordinary,” she said. Studies back on course ONE door shuts and another one opens. And this is proving to be the case with courses that were previously being run by Morrisons in Mount Evelyn now being delivered by Upper Yarra Community House (UYCH). UYCH CEO Sally Brennan said what this meant for the students in the
Upper Yarra was that there was now a wider and more diverse offering of training being delivered close by. “UYCH is pleased to have been able to step in and to continue to provide these much-needed services, particularly relevant since the closure of Swinburne in Lilydale,” she said. “In most cases, students have been
able to continue in the same classrooms with the same teachers, with a little disruption as possible, including the young people in the VCAL program.” Students now have the opportunity to study at both locations in a variety of community services training programs including aged care, children’s
services, education support and youth services. The consolidation of training provision also means that there will be greater diversity at both locations, with UYCH courses being offered in Mount Evelyn that were previously only in Upper Yarra. “What we’re seeking to build are
real employment outcomes for our students, based on high quality training,” Ms Brennan said. “The most effective way to do this is to provide strong learning pathways for students, pathways that are closely linked to industry, and provided in a supportive environment with highly experienced teaching staff.”

Sleeping rough for a reason NOT many people choose to ‘sleep rough’, especially with the early onset of cold wintry nights. However, over 30 girls from Mater Christi College, Belgrave opted for a night under the stars to gain a better understanding of the plight of the homeless. More than 105,000 Australians find themselves homeless each night. Young women are among the most vulnerable, with just under half of the homeless being women and a

The students slept out in the school grounds last week as part of the Vinnies School Sleepout. “The sleepout provides students with a small experience of homelessness and poverty. Importantly, they also explore the diverse causes and responses to homelessness as part of the evening,” said principal Mary Fitz-Gerald. Students involve others in the issue through discussion and sponsorship. The
funds are donated to the St Vincent De Paul Society who support over 540,000 needy people through their 40,000 volunteers in local communities every year. “It is important to provide students with diverse opportunities and experiences and we encourage them to be creative and active in their response to issues in their world,” Ms Fitz-Gerald said. New take on old science THE doors of the new senior school science laboratory at St Margaret’s School have been opened. And when 15 of the schools Prep students and their parents walked through the doors of the new facility, there was excitement on the faces of the young students. Head of science at St Margaret’s Krista Bayliss said together with members of the science department, the group of
students and parents predicted, experimented, explored and in the process had a whole lot of fun. The series of ‘Science Experience Nights’ was held to allow the Junior School community to investigate and explore some of the fascinating aspects of modern science. More than 100 students, from Prep to Year 6, and their parents took part in events over seven nights.
“Science is an increasingly important area with the potential to improve the quality of life and to aid in solving some of the great problems of our age,” Ms Bayliss said. “It was wonderful to see students so enthusiastically embracing science and to have a parent say, ‘Science was never like this when I was at school. Can I come back and do it again here?’ was wonderful,” she said.

Mums back to school By REBECCA BILLS PREPPIES at Belgrave South Primary School had an extra special morning last Friday celebrating all things ‘Mothers’. Each Prep student brought along their mum or special lady in their life to show them all the things they have been learning throughout the year and to give special presents made in class. Prep teacher Lynn Bok said she had run the event for the past 12 years. “When I came to the school, I introduced the Mother’s Day morning tea and a Father’s Day breakfast,” she said. “It’s a lovely way for parents
to spend some precious time at school with their children as well as a time to celebrate mums and their input in their child’s education. “The kids get very excited when their parents are here at school and love to show them their books and what they are learning.” The students made scones, placemats with drawings of their mum and why they love her as well as love hearts out of paper filled with flower seeds. Mum to student Kobe, Emma Hodges, said it was really nice to spend a bit of oneon-one time even though she
was going to be late for work. “It’s a great opportunity to meet some of the mums that you often don’t get to see and put a face to the names,” she said. “And these little gifts are really lovely and something to keep forever.” Kobe said he loved being able to show his mum around the school and that his favourite thing about her was that she cooked the best lasagne. Under bird attack By REBECCA BILLS MANY locals have struggled with cockatoos attacking their house, but for Menzies Creek resident Heidi Schlennstedt it’s a pesky kookaburra that won’t leave her alone. Last year around spring time, Ms Schlennstedt noticed a kookaburra attacking a window on her house nearly every day until it eventually broke. “He would start at 7 in the morning and was very obsessed with that window particularly,� she said.

Unsure of what was making the kookaburra attack the window, Ms Schlennstedt contacted a bird expert and was told it may be due to mating behaviour and to put a sheet in front of the window so the kookaburra could not see its reflection. “We put a sheet up in front of it and he would just fly around the sheet to get to the window,� she said. “We really love birds, but we just don’t want them attacking our window anymore. “My husband has lived in the area for 50 years and we built this house in 1987 and we just find it odd that this has never happened to us before until last year.� Ms Schlennstedt said after the window broke she did not see the kookaburra until just a few weeks ago. “We thought he had got a big

Upwey comes together for community plan By REBECCA BILLS RESIDENTS in Upwey are dedicated to breathing new life into the town. Project Upwey “Our Future, Our Plan, Our Community - Your Vision, Your Voice” is an opportunity for the whole community of Upwey to come together in conversation to workshop ideas in designing the future of the community. Project Upwey leaders Andrew Fullagar and Michelle Johnson said the event was community inclusive with anybody who worked, lived and played in Upwey welcomed to come along. “The project is to come together as a community to write a community plan,” Ms Johnson said. “The idea with the community plan is to get everybody in Upwey’s thoughts and feelings of how they want to see Upwey in the future and whatever is important to them.” Ms Johnson said from initial conversations with the community, people had suggested that they would like an off-leash dog area, the rear of the shops refurnished and the old community buildings replaced with something a little more updated. Mr Fullagar said Project Upwey started up in the last few months however he and the Upwey Township Group had been attending a number of seminars about the idea of a master plan for the community. “We now want to take the next step of creating the plan and not just talk about it,” he said. “On the night, there are three main things we want to do - gather ideas, prioritise and form little task groups. “Then we as the Project Upwey team will empower these group to actually achieve.”

RATES will rise consistently over the coming four years in the Yarra Ranges, according to the recently released draft budget. However, one councillor has said that more can be done to cut increases. The Yarra Ranges Council released its draft budget for the coming financial year, a draft update to the Council Plan 2013-2017 and its Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) 2014-15 to 2023-24 last week. At the special meeting, held on Tuesday 6 May, the drafts were unanimously accepted by councillors, and a community feedback period was opened for the documents until 5 June. Over the coming financial year, rates are set to rise by 4.8 per cent - the same increase as in the 2013-2014 year. In the budget papers, the rate increases for each year up until 2017-2018 are projected to also be 4.8 per cent. Councillors Jim Child and Andy Witlox both praised the draft documents at the council meeting, and emphasised the importance of the community providing feedback on the documents before they are officially adopted. While he said the rate rises in the coming year were relatively low, Cr Witlox said more could be done to reduce pressure on rates, such as continuing to look at reducing costs in council. “I think this council is actively looking at our budget and trying to keep down rates,” he said. “I think 4.8 per cent is bet-
ter than most councils, but I still think we can do better.” “I think we’ll keep going with our process to keep down pressures on rates and looking at efficiencies in the organisation - my goal would be 3.8 per cent as a rating strategy. In 2014-2015, around $120,416,000 will be raised from rates alone - up from $114,296,000 in the 2013-2014 year. According to the draft budget, 2.3 per cent of the rate increase will go towards maintaining services and meeting costs from external influences including reduction in Victorian Grants Commission allocations. The other 2.5 per cent will go towards the council’s $33.3 million Capital Works program, which will see a number of large-scale projects take place in the municipality. Sporting groups will benefit from the Capital Works program, with a $1 million development to Monbulk’s Regional Soccer Centre listed on the budget - subject to funding from State and Federal Governments. A $125,000 sports field lighting upgrade for Upwey is also listed, along with a $250,000 improvement to Belgrave South Recreation Reserve’s oval and a $125,000 lighting upgrade for Silvan Oval - all of these include $25,000 in sporting club contributions. Other upgrades include $104,000 for improvements to the Tecoma township area and $56,000 for implementation of the Birdsland Reserve Management Plan and park improvements. A number of other projects
are included in the program, including extensive footpath and road works around the Dandenong Ranges. Yarra Ranges mayor Fiona McAllister said a number of cost savings were recorded in this year’s budget, due to a $650,000 reduction in salaries and wages, reductions in general expenditure to the tune of $1.7 million and re-tendering the waste contract, saving $1.5 million. However, a council spokesperson confirmed that re-tendering the waste contract was not regarding the proposed closure of Healesville’s Waste Transfer Station and a reduction of hours at Wesburn’s facility, but was in regards to kerbside collection. Cr McAllister said all of the documents released in last week’s meeting were significant for the running of council, and urged residents and community groups to read them and provide feedback. Public submissions on the draft documents are due by 5pm on 5 June, and the council will consider all submissions at a Committee Meeting on 10 June. Residents may be able to speak on their submission at the meeting, but will need to specify this in their submission. Cops make town clean-up arrests on graffiti scourge MONBULK’S streets will be cleaned up thanks to the effort of local police. Last week Monbulk police charged three youths with criminal damage following escalating graffiti in the town and surrounding areas. Sergeant Mark Knight said it was a real success to charge the three young males following a number of complaints from community members. “It’s great to be able to clean up our streets,” Sgt Knight said.
“The town will now make an effort to clean up again.” Sgt Knight said he was pleased to be able to charge a Warburton teen over the graffiti at the RSL and telephone exchange - a bone of contention for many people in the town. The 15-year-old Warburton boy was bailed to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with theft and criminal damage. Two Monbulk teens were also charged.
A 19-year-old man was charged with cultivating, use and possession of a drug of dependence as well as criminal damage in relation to graffiti in Kallista and Monbulk. A 17-year-old man was charged with criminal damage in relation to graffiti in The Patch and bus stops in Monbulk. Both men were released on summons but will face Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later date. - MELISSA MEEHAN

Chase ends in arrest A POLICE pursuit ended in a collision and the arrest of a 19-year-old Emerald man on Friday. Police pursued the blue Holden VL Commodore through Emerald before a collision at Pinnocks Road and Berrys Lane. Leading Senior Constable Brett Hore said the driver was wanted on a number of offences and was remanded to face court at a later date. He was charged with reckless driving risking serious injury, driving unlicensed and unregistered and a number of other traffic offences.

Dozens of keen onlookers converged on the Ranges Hotel in Main Street last Wednesday afternoon for an auction that had the potential to spring the pub back to life. But potential bidders were scared away by a $1 million asking price, which didn’t include another estimated $500,000 to get the pub up to scratch. Auctioneer John Conway - the managing director of licensed estate agent, hotel-
motel specialists and liquor industry consultants Conway Commercial - pulled no punches in outlining the cash injection that the pub would need “for a real Rolls Royce finish”. “What needs to be spent on it - in our view from our 40 years in this business - to bring this to the standard it should be at, and that is a fourstar standard of bar and food service... you’re looking at $450-500,000,” Mr Conway said in front of a packed function room at the pub, just prior to the start of the auction. “There’s a big market for this hotel,” he said. “The name of the game here is food and beverage, and catering functions.

IN FORTY FIVE years living near a busy roundabout - they’ve had two cars land in their front yard within three months of each other. Peter Raaymakers and his wife Trudy were again surprised on Friday morning when they noticed a deep red BMW in their front yard. “I didn’t notice anything until I woke up this morning,” Mr Raaymakers said. “I happened to look outside while making breakfast and I thought what is that doing there. “The funny thing is that the same thing happened a couple of months ago - I thought it couldn’t happen again.” He called triple-zero and police arrived shortly after. Sergeant Craig West said that police were called to the BelgraveHallam Road address not long after 9am and found an abandoned car crashed into the front yard. Owner of the property Mr Raaymakers said it was the second time in three months that a car had driven through his front fence. “Last time the girl lost control on the corner, but this time I looked through the window and thought, well, that’s a nice car,” he said. “We didn’t hear it crash, but that’s probably because it is a busy road - but the guy, he locked the car and left it here. “We’re lucky we have the brick fence here, otherwise who knows what could have happened,” Mr Raaymakers said. Classes immersed in nature’s beauty By REBECCA BILLS GRADE 5 and 6 students from Upper Ferntree Gully Primary School are spending a week each studying in a special Forest Classroom. Located at the base of the 1000 steps in the Dandenong Ranges National Park, the Forest Classroom is a purpose designed learning space with an immersive learning program providing students the opportunity to leave the classroom and explore the native surrounds. Upper Ferntree Gully Grade 5 and 6 teacher Clare Johnson said the teachings at the classroom focused on geography and researching the local environment. “We’ve been looking at park management, the park itself, what are the attractions here and who are the people using the park,” she said. “We are also looking at fire management as the kids talk about this at school and have concerns about it, so one of the portfolio tasks is fire prevention. “The children love being outside learning about these things as they are all very keen on the environment - it’s just brilliant.” Park’s Victoria Education officer Michelle Doherty said the classroom was free of charge for week-long visit with just a small cleaning fee billed to the school. “This offer is limited to 30 local schools surrounding the national park,” she said. “The program allows the teacher to immerse the class for an in-depth experience and al-

Hills’ new trade gem By MELISSA MEEHAN IT’S the hidden gem of the hills according to federal MP Jason Wood - and he could be right. Belgrave Heights Christian School opened their trade training centre last week with much fanfare and tasty treats. Guests were treated to a two-course lunch prepared by students at the centre. Principal Andy Callow welcomed guests, beaming with pride at the new building. “Here in the Dandenongs we have the highest percentage of tradies and hospitality workers so we thought it was important to have something available for the students in the area,” he said. “This is the first trade training centre for the Dandenongs, before this the closest was Box Hill.” Mr Callow said that the project really came together because schools in the area were supportive of it. Business manager of BHCS, Glenn Campbell said the trade training centre was a huge challenge, but was pleased with the outcome. “There is $230,000 worth of equipment alone,” he said, “It’s been a great outcome for us as a school, and the region as a whole.” Mr Wood celebrated the opening, and made sure he acknowledged former MP Laura Smyth and her efforts to secure funding in the past. “I was very negative of the BER but what it’s provided to Belgrave Heights Christian School, it’s the best news to me,” he said. “It’s so wonderful to see that local kids can gain qualifications in the hospitality industry without travelling out of the area.”

THE Rotary Club of Belgrave is tackling cancer head on this May with the Bowelscan program. The early screening test, which is available at the club and pharmacies across Belgrave and Upwey, could help save a life. More than 11,000 new cases of bowel cancer are detected in Australia each year. Colorectal cancer is the most common internal cancer affecting Australians. With no obvious early symptoms of the disease, most people do not know they have bowel cancer until it is in its advanced stages. Bowel cancer is one of the most curable cancers, with a 90
per cent survival rate for victims when the disease is detected in its early stages. However once these symptoms have developed, the chance of long term survival is roughly halved. Rotary clubs and pharmacies in Monbulk and Emerald are also promoting the program by providing the testing kits for just $10 over May. The risk of developing bowel cancer sharply rises over the age of 50, with one in 24 people at risk of developing the disease over their lifetime. The Bowelscan program recommends that people over the age of 40 get annual screenings to help mitigate the chance of developing the curable disease.
SUPPORTING her community and her family are one and the same for Emerald’s Michelle Perera. “If you make your community stronger, that means my children are going to have better experiences,” she said. Her children Gene Jack, 7, and Ayla, 9, regularly volunteer at community events. “That’s a really big thing for me, to teach them a sense of social responsibility,” she said. “I’ll say to them ‘we help out here because we hope that if we need help someone will help us out’.” The 33-year-old recently moved to Cockatoo, but it’s rare you’ll find her there. She spends most of her time in former home town Emerald, where she’s a driving force at Emerald Community House (ECH), Emerald Market, the Performing and Visual Arts in Emerald (PAVE) Festival, Emerald Funfest and more. “It’s a very important event to knit the community together and for them to feel a sense of ownership and be proud of their town and what it can offer,” Michelle said. “It’s a great way for businesses to showcase what they offer as well. “By strengthening businesses in the community it makes the community stronger they can employ people.” Michelle’s recent relocation from Emerald to Cockatoo showed her a different side to living in the hills, even though she’s called the Dandenong Ranges home for 10 years. She saw isolation, a lack of housing and services and a desperate need for food. “I found it quite shocking that people don’t have food,” she said. “You think we’re such a small community that these people would be brought into the fold. “But I found that there’s a high level of privacy issues around it.” She became passionate about emergency food relief and developed a resource sheet with agencies in the region. “Just to consolidate all those different details and try to get these people talking to each other,” she said. Michelle was also instrumental in introducing the Dig In Café at Emerald Community House, held each month. “It’s not just about emergency food relief. It’s also about practicing feeding the community if we ever had any sort of hazard or disaster,” she said. It’s also about social inclusion. “We find people from the whole hills corridor are actually attending. They’re not just from Emerald,” she said. “You see people bit by bit getting more involved in the community, feeling more social responsibility, and then feeling like they’re a part of something bigger. “It changes their frown to a smile, so that’s a pretty nice thing.”

Girls travel to China By REBECCA BILLS EIGHT Year 9 Mater Christi students have returned from a trip of a lifetime. The girls were part of a six-week immersion experience in China as part of the Victorian Young Leaders to China Program, spending time at the Beijing School and Shanghai School. Mater Christi was chosen as one of eight schools to participate in the inaugural trip which will provide the opportunity for 1500 Victorian Year 9 students to travel to China over the next five years. The students took part in a oneweek intensive Chinese language program, a one-week culture program, and four weeks in-school experience where students participated in a structured curriculum program. Principal Mary Fitz-Gerald said the trip was an extraordinary experience for the girls. “We actively seek and support practical experiences in all our programs to build real world understanding and skill,” she said. “These are terrific learning opportunities for the girls and the immersion experience was an opportunity for the girls not only to appreciate Chinese culture but to better their language skills and to grow as individuals. “Given that we are in an age where there is a lot of social media, the communication can continue

accompanied the girls on the trip and said it was a fantastic opportunity to be the pioneers of the program. “One of the most fantastic parts of the trip was watching the eight girls grow as young ladies,” she said. Student Jocelyn Bennett said learning Mandarin from Year 7 helped all the girls’ confidence going into the trip, adding many of
them wished to return in the next few years to visit their new Chinese friends. “Some parts were hard but we all had a great time and learnt so much,” she said. “From the trip our language skills have improved heaps and it was wonderful to experience learning in China.”
Students moved to tears By REBECCA BILLS SOME 500 Year 9 students from across the hills and Yarra Valley came together to celebrate what it means to be a young person in Australia. With the theme, “Our Voice, Our Impact,”students gathered at Discovery Church in Mount Evelyn to listen to speaker and Paralympic Games gold medallist Kurt Fearnley, who related his story of commitment to his dreams. Youth and Community Engagement co-ordinator Loren Hedger said Mr Fearnley’s story did not leave a dry eye in the house. “It was amazing even for me as an adult to have the opportunity to hear from someone like him,” she said. “He spoke about his gold medals and how he crawled the Kokoda Track as well as racing and being a part of the winning team in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. “He really inspired the students
to stay committed and motivated to achieving their goals.” Ms Hedger said despite National Youth Week being in April, the Youth Services 2014 Youth Summit was still part of the celebration. “It’s been put on to celebrate young people, celebrate leadership, and inspire young people locally,” she said. “We had a mix of presenters including a local young person showing that you don’t have to be famous to be a leader. “Young people are the leaders now and in the future.” Other speakers at the event included mayor Fiona McAllister as well as performances from an Indigenous hip-hop crew with themes of the day being cyber safety and self-esteem. Students flocked to social media outlet Instagram to post photos of the event with comments such as “the day taught me heaps” and “it really helped me”- just a few of the positive feedback messages from the day. At present, there is no sign directing them to the walking track alongside the line and Pepi’s Paddock, leading down the hill to the Heritage Park.”
LABOR has pledged it will remove a level crossing on the Maroondah Highway in Lilydale if it wins the State Election. Visiting Lilydale station, Shadow Minister for Public Transport Jill Hennessy and Labor Candidate for Evelyn Peter Harris said removing the crossing would create faster, safer roads. “The first step to fixing roads and public transport in Lilydale is to remove this level crossing,” Ms Hennessy said. “Level crossings cause chaos on the roads, slow down trains and put lives in danger.” Mr Harris said the crossing was a big issue for locals who often got caught in traffic congestion during peak hour. “And when a train comes through, it makes it really unsafe. People try to dash around the side roads to try and beat the train and beat the boomgate, that makes it a major safety issue,” he said. The crossing is listed as one of the state’s worst in Project 10,000, a Victorian Labor transport report. Ms Hennessy said Labor would consult engineers, the Yarra Ranges Council and the local community before deciding whether to build an overpass or an underground crossing. In addition to the Maroondah Highway crossing, Labor plans to re-open another at the far end of Lilydale station which was closed due to safety reasons. Mr Harris said instead of installing boomgates to improve the crossing, the government closed it down, creating new dangers for morning commuters who had to walk in the dark through a long car park to get to the station entrance. The Opposition has also vowed to deliver 24-hour trains on weekends along the Lilydale line. Apart of the party’s Homesafe plan, the all-night public transport system will make getting home safer, cheaper and easier for people across Victoria. The Labor initiative rivals the Napthine Government’s recent move to increase taxi fares by up to 30 per cent from this month. By New Year’s Eve 2015, the 24-hour transport scheme will have undergone a $50 million trial over 12 months on Fridays and Saturdays.

In Denis we trust THE Napthine Government’s 2014-’15 State Budget is great news for Victoria and for Monbulk. For families and businesses in the Yarra Ranges, there are a number of measures to strengthen our local community including $7.8 million to complete the missing link in the Carrum-Warburton Bike Trail between Bayswater North and Mount Evelyn, $2.2 million to upgrade facilities at Pembroke Primary School and $1 million a year for weed management on public
land in peri-urban areas. The Coalition has also announced that from 1 January 2015, locals can travel in Zone 1 and 2 for the price of a Zone 1 fare, saving daily commuters into the city around $1200 a year. By rebuilding Victoria’s finances and keeping the economy strong, Premier Denis Napthine has been able to put a record $27 billion into key infrastructure projects across the state. Victorians cannot afford more Labor cost blow-outs like the desalination plant and myki, nor can Daniel Andrews’ cosy relationship with unions be trusted. Anyone who saw them would agree they should be protected and not be turned into sawlogs or woodchips. Rough ride I WROTE some time ago about the way the Napthine Government has fixed our roads with ’Rough Surface’ signs. I had thought that this was just a local phenomena but, having just returned from Lakes Entrance I have found that it appears to be state-wide. The state of our major roads is really suffering from a gross lack of maintenance. It is all very well to promise major projects such as the very dubious East-West tunnel, but how about looking after the roads we already have? Division 1 saw Olinda Ferny Creek take back the top spot just by a percentage over Monbulk, while in Division 2 Yarra Glen are on top only by a percentage over Seville. First Division Seniors: Belgrave 14.16 (100) d Warburton Millgrove 8.6 (54) BELGRAVE got back on the winners’ list with a great second half performance to win by a comfortable 46 points. Warby was more than just competitive in the first half as they went to the main break just three points down and were right in the match. Belgrave however produced arguably their best half of footy this season booting eight goals-to-two and started to show some of the good form that they are capable of. Belgrave best players: T. McNamara (4 goals), C. Kelf, E. Clasby. Warburton Millgrove best players: B. Murphy, L. Barnard, M. Lewis (1 goal). Healesville 11.15 (81) d Mount Evelyn 11.12 (78) HEALESVILLE celebrated their second win of the year with a stirring come- from-behind, three-point victory over Mount Evelyn, which seemed to be in control of the game up to three-quarter time. Mount Evelyn did lead all day up until then, but Healesville remained in touch being just 14 points down at three- quarter time. In the last quarter, Mount Evelyn seemed to go into their shell a bit as Healesville actually peppered the goals, and booting 3.6 they realistically should have won by a couple of goals. Woori got out to a 14-point lead at the first change before Upwey hit back in the second, booting four goals-to-one to take a one-goal buffer into half time.The third quarter was a reverse of the second with Woori booting four goalsto-one and they went to the last break with a 16-point lead. Upwey was coming home with the scoring end in the last and they certainly had their chances to win this game, but they booted a very inaccurate 2.8 for the term while Woori’s 1.1 was enough to record them a famous victory.
