MARKET IS DOING WELL THE latest figures released by the Barry Plant Group, Victoria’s largest real estate group, have highlighted some great results in the Victorian residential property market. They substantiate that the market is indeed in a sustained period of modest growth. When compared to the first quarter in 2013, the Barry Plant Group increased their number of sales during the first quarter of 2014 by 4.3 per cent, while the total value of property sold was up by 13.4 per cent. When looking at month by month figures, in March this year the total value of sales by Barry Plant,

compared to March last year, was increased by 26.2 per cent. This was followed by a 7.5 per cent increase in April. Barry Plant Director and CEO Mike McCarthy said: “This is not a boom’ market – it’s something better – it’s a market that is growing steadily and giving sound returns to property owners. “This is reflected in our figures, where our average sale price of properties sold during the first quarter increased by 8.2 per cent and the total value of properties sold has increased by at least 10 per cent for two consecutive years. “Indications are that this sustained growth will continue, influenced by key factors such as steady employment figures, continued low interest rates and investors who see property as a safer and long-term more rewarding investment than the stock market,” Mike concluded.
