Di has more than 25 years’ experience in the industry where she has worked on over 2000 projects from hotels to offices, shops to restaurants and retirements homes to tiny one-bedroom flats. Di said, when it comes to selling you home, it’s all about first impressions. Street Appeal: The first impression people get of your property is when they walk up to the front gate. To make a great impression, keep the streetfront neat and tidy. If you have a concealed entrance or more than one entry point, emphasise the main entrance with planting, lighting or paving. Front Door: The first point of entry to your home needs to feel welcoming, as this sets the tone for the rest of the house. Lighting and mirrors are a great way to add extra light, as well as create a sense of space. Fresh flowers are also a great way to make a fresh difference to your home’s entrance. Furniture: One of the misconceptions in interior design is that it is easier to design a large space than a small one. But to fill a large open-plan space and make it feel comfortable can be a challenge. Consider what a space in a living area is going to be used for. It is essentially for sitting around with friends and family to talk and maybe listen to music or watch television. Create a space that makes it easy to flow from one activity to the other. Make sure you don’t only use the television as the focal

point. Position televisions in the same vista as an outside view or some other point of interest so that it is optional whether you watch television or not. Lighting: Accent lighting can transform a space into a totally different atmosphere. Lighting specialists are very knowledgeable and can often give you great tips on how to maximise the potential of your house to make it come alive.

Exterior spaces should be regarded as exterior rooms as we live in a climate that allows us to spend a large part of our leisure time outside - you can’t simply rely on a couple of candles. Kitchen and Bathroom: Kitchens and bathrooms can either make or break a house sale. Tired-looking rooms will often discourage people from buying your home. To improve your chances of a sale, invest in some instant upgrades for your kitchen and bathroom. New plumbing fixtures and bathroom accessories such as taps and towel rails can really make a difference. Bedrooms: Keep bedrooms clean and simple. You have already made the decision to sell, which means you are going to have to pack up your treasures soon so why not pack them up before you start showing your home to perspective buyers. Colouring is also important. Stick to basic white - it’s a great way to let the new owner create their own environment.
