GRANTS CYCLE FOR COMMUNITY CARLISLE Homes is giving back to the community in a big way through its Community Grants Program. It has just announced six winners in the first cycle of its four cycle grant program and is looking for more worthy recipients for Cycle Two - with applications open until 30 September. Entry is open to Melbourne and Geelong based community groups and not-for-profit organisations of any size which are seeking funding to help enhance the lives of people in their local community and can be classified into one of the following categories - sports and recreation, health and caring, and education and training. The successful grant recipients can receive up to $50,000 per cycle although,

like Cycle One - the total grant of $50,000 per cycle may be divided between a number of selected community groups. Carlisle Homes announced six winners in the first cycle of its Community Grants Program, which ran from 1 March to 30 June. All community grant winners were notified on Friday 1 August and were awarded their certificates and cheques on Tuesday 5 August by the Carlisle Homes directors at the award winning SPECTRA Selection Centre. Director John Doulgeridis said the program was important for the company. “For Carlisle Homes, it is a simple and effective way to engage with our communities and provide funding for real

grass roots initiatives,” Mr Doulgeridis said. The winning Cycle One projects included Koo Wee Rup Primary School which received $5246 for a greenhouse. This is an initiative to educate students regarding the benefits of sustainable gardening. Langwarrin Park Pre School won an $8580 grant for a sandpit shelter because learning through play is a crucial element of childhood development. The new sandpit shelter in the Outdoor Learning Environment at Langwarrin Park Pre School will provide children with valuable and exploration opportunities. Other winners included the Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick which won a $9660 grant to be put towards its veggie

patch, and the Melton Phoenix Football Club received a $2500 grant to purchase samba goals for its sporting club to replace stolen and damaged goals. Carrum Downs Secondary College received $10,000 for its project, The Village - an interactive learning community and the grant will provide funding for an irrigation system, additional material to build extra garden beds, a commercial coffee machine for hospitality students and outdoor furniture for The Village. Aspendale Gardens Community Centre received a $10,000 grant to be put towards its Community Kitchen at the Aspendale Gardens Community Centre.
