THE last Friday in November will be a not-tomiss shopping event in Monbulk, with businesses opening into the night and the main street opening for entertainment galore. On Friday 28 November, from 5pm-9pm, the sixth annual Merry Monbulk Christmas Late Night Shopping Event will be held throughout the town, and this year’s event is set to be the biggest yet. The Main Street will be spruced up with trees, plants and shrubs from Fleming’s Nursery and shops will be open until 9pm on the dot, allowing for plenty of local Christmas shopping. With fashion, footwear, jewellery, local produce, stationery, candles, terrariums, books, vouchers for dining, hair and beauty and many, many more attractions, the town will be a hub for perfect, unique gifts for friends and family. The windows of the shops will be decorated for the night, with people judging the best one on the street, and Santa is even expected to stop by on a fire truck - rumour has it that he will have a lolly or two for children attending the event, and will be hanging around for photos. The town’s eateries will also be open over the evening, and tables have been filling quickly, with many expected to flock to the annual event. To help mark the late night shopping event, there will be stalls outside shops along Main Street, along with one-off specials for the evening and free raffle tickets for shoppers to win donated prizes. Another paid raffle will be put on to win a real, potted Christmas tree, and kids will be well catered for, with a jumping castle, ice-cream van, a petting zoo and face painters. Dancing demonstrations, didgeridoo playing, martial arts, African drumming and more will also make up the children’s section, and schools will have their choirs and bands alongside local musicians performing to fill the night with music. The Merry Monbulk Christmas Late Night Shopping Event will be held on Friday 28 November from 5pm-9pm in Monbulk’s Main Street.

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, Oh come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold Him, born the King of angels; O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. God of God, light of light, Lo, He abhors not the virgin’s womb; Very God, begotten not created: O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above; Glory to God in the highest: O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. See how the shepherds summoned to his cradle, Leaving their flocks, draw nigh with lowly fear; We too will thither hend our joyful footsteps; O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning; Jesus, to thee be glory given; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing: O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

CHRISTMAS IN HEALESVILLE
A Mail Newspaper Advertising Feature
Spirit of Christmas to shine By JESSE GRAHAM HEALESVILLE’S schoolchildren will be able to finish the school year with a celebration, with the Healesville Community Kids’ Christmas Festival coming to town for another year. The festival, which is organised by members of the Healesville Chamber of Commerce, will kick off along Healesville’s main street from 4-7pm on Friday 19 December. One of the event organisers, Vanessa Clothier, said the three-hour festival was free of charge for kids and parents, and that there were plenty of rides, activities and attractions for the festival. “They can just wander down after their last day of school and enjoy three hours of Santa-y fun and kids’ stuff,” she said. Face painting, a petting zoo and a visit from Santa himself are all on the cards for the event, and shops will also be opening their doors later into the evening for last-minute Christmas shopping. Ms Clothier said this year’s festival would be the fourth time it had been run, and said the group received no funding, except from
local business donations, to put on the event. “It costs $15,000 to put on - that covers the road closure, the insurance and all of the kids’ entertainment,” she said. “We want to make it open to disadvantaged families, so their hands aren’t pushed in their pockets for anything. “We want people to be aware that it’s the kindness of local businesses, and we’re hoping more can give in the future so it can continue.” Ms Clothier said that food and drink would also be available at the festival, including a gingerbread decorating stall put on by Beechworth Bakery. She said numbers for the event had grown each year, and that the organising group was expecting bigger crowds than ever for this year’s festival. The Healesville Community Kids Christmas Festival will run from 4-7pm on Friday 19 December, along Nicholson Street (Maroondah Highway) in Healesville between Church Street and Green Street. The event is free, but food and drink and photos with Santa may have associated costs.
The Healesville Community Kids’ Christmas Festival is getting closer. Kalyn (10) with Fletcher (10 months), Santa with Chloe (2), Isabella (4) and Miley (3) and, behind, Vanessa Clothier, Lisa Hennessy, Sue Schelfhout, Picture: ROB CAREW Kendra Donkin and Emma Newsome are excited about the event. 131077

CHRISTMAS IN MOUNT EVELYN That’s the spirit we need ALL I WANT FOR
More front for Christmas
By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM THE spirit of Christmas is thriving at the Mount Evelyn Community Bank. Along with the Rotary Club of Lilydale, the bank will once again be hosting a Christmas gift appeal out of its local branch. Rotary club member Cheryl Mackay said that the drive has become a tradition within the community, and that there is always an overwhelming public response. “We see amazing generosity in the amount of gifts that are donated every year. “I encourage people to donate gifts for children of all ages as well as teenagers. It makes a real difference to people in our local area.” At the conclusion of the appeal, the gifts are collected by the Salvation Army and then distributed to those in need. Branch manager Leanne Vaytauer said the bank believed it was important to foster community spirit at Christmas. “The community really get behind the cause. In previous years we have seen an incredible amount donated and it’s great to be a part of that.” Those wishing to donate should leave an unwrapped gift under the Christmas tree at the branch. Donations of cash will not be accepted. For more information contact the Mount Evelyn Community Bank on 9737 1833 or visit www. rotarylilydale.org.au.

The best-dressed window in the competition will be selected by the Lilydale Chamber’s President, with judging beginning on 8 December and the final announcement on 16 December. The winner will receive a Christmas hamper, valued at $80 - along with bragging rights as the most Christmassy shop-front. CHRISTMAS IN BELGRAVE
A Mail Newspaper Advertising Feature
Belgrave will be beaming By JODIE SYMONDS THE STREETS of Belgrave will be beaming with Christmas joy this December. Christmas is coming and if you’ve left your shopping until the last minute once again, the village market day on 16 December can provide you with your Christmas goodies. The main street will be decked out with stalls ranging from Christmas-themed to vintage style and everything in between. Co-ordinator of the Belgrave Traders Association, Marina Dennis said the market would give the opportunity to support local businesses this Christmas. “If you’re heading to Belgrave you’ll be infected by Christmas cheer,” Ms Dennis said. “There’s no need to go to the city when you can promote our local businesses.” Shoppers can also enjoy extended trading hours in Belgrave across December. Ms Dennis said shops in the hills provided a unique and vintage style with warm and friendly staff. Night-time will bring spectacular, colourful displays of Christmas lights along the main street of Belgrave. A group of singers will also be singing their favourite Christmas carols for the whole family to enjoy, hosted by the Belgrave Region Action Group and will be held at Mater Christi College on Friday 12th. Santa will also be coming to Belgrave before he dashes around the world and will be available for photos at Hugs for Kids every Saturday during December. Photo packages with Santa are available and can be booked on 9754 1122. The village market day will run from 9am-2pm. The events across December are an opportunity for locals and families to come together in the spirit of Christmas. For more information on trading hours visit http:// www.belgrave.vic.au/

CHRISTMAS time for many is a time of celebration and giving, but for some others it brings a world of stress and financial pressure. Dandenong Ranges Emergency Relief Service (DRERS) manager Tania Bevan knows about those pressures too well. For many of her clients, just buying their children a gift from Santa is too much. That’s why the DRERS Giving Tree has been in the Belgrave Library for the past 13 years, and this year is no different. “All people have to do is take a tag off the tree and buy a present according to the tag,” Ms Bevan said. “Then bring the present back, unwrapped and put it under the tree.” Clients of DRERS then attend a day where they can choose a gift to give to their loved ones. “These gifts are going to locals and are only available to clients of DRERS.” Ms Bevan said there was always a positive response to the tree, but they almost always struggled with gifts for teenagers. “We’ve found people say it’s hard to buy for a teenager, but whether it be a music gift card or something similar, it is going to be appreciated,” she said. “Those donations can be given to the staff at the library or at the front desk at DRERS”. Presents need to be returned to the tree by 12 December.

Shire’s carols add a festive touch FESTIVE fun is coming to Cardinia Shire for the annual Pakenham Carols by Candlelight event. The free evening of entertainment will be held on Saturday 13 December at Toomuc Reserve, Princes Highway Pakenham. Gates open at 6.30pm, with entertainment from 7pm. Council is proudly presenting the event, with the support of local businesses and community groups. Cardinia Shire Mayor Leticia Wilmot encouraged residents to bring a rug, picnic and their family and friends to enjoy the evening. “Carols by Candlelight is a great chance for the community to get together and get into the Christmas spirit – and I have also been assured that Santa will be making a special visit from the North Pole,” she said. “So please warm up your voice and sing along to the classic Christmas carols on the night. “It will be a fantastic event and a great opportunity to celebrate Christmas with friends, family and neighbours.” Other highlights of the carols event include the Cardinia Civic Concert Band playing classic and much-loved Christmas tunes, accompanied by a community choir, which will lead the crowd in the shire’s biggest sing-along. The night will end on a colourful note with an impressive fireworks display. Food and drink will be available to purchase at the reserve with all proceeds going to local community organisations. Pakenham Carols by Candlelight is an alcohol-free event. Council also requests that attendees make it a smoke-free occasion. No pets are allowed. For more event information contact council on 1300 787 624 or c.strengthening@cardinia.vic. gov.au or visit the ‘Pakenham Carols by Candlelight’ webpage on council’s website. CHRISTMAS IN WOORI YALLOCK A Mail Newspaper Advertising Feature
Highway alive for Christmas By KATH GANNAWAY WARBURTON Highway is a highway to Christmas celebrations and sharing the spirit of Christmas from Wandin through to Warburton. Wandin’s Sunset Festival is the start of the tinsel trail on Saturday, 6 December. The retailers of the Wandin Shopping Centre are hosting the event this year, carrying on the tradition of lots of free fun for the kids, displays, demonstrations, food and market stalls. And ... Santa! Keep an eye out also for Wandin Rotary’s Christmas Raffle trailer how great would that be? A trailer full of fantastic gifts ... some to keep, some to share. Seville Water Park will provide plenty of sparkle for the combined churches of Wandin and Seville Carols on Sunday, 14 December, starting 6.30pm. Join in the community singing and take the opportunity to wish the local CFA volunteers on the sausage sizzle an ‘uneventful Christmas’. Woori Yallock Presbyterian Church will start their Christmas festivities with a free Family Fun Day on Saturday, 29 November, from 10am to 2pm with a Christmas nativity display, kids’ craft activities, showbags, a jumping castle and more between 10am and 2pm. There are free activities for kids on Friday and Saturday nights, the Christmas Nativity and Light Display every night from 1 to 31 December and Carols by Candlelight on Sunday, 14 December.
Continuing towards the star in the east ... Yarra Junction Library’s Wishing Tree is an opportunity to embrace the Christmas spirit of giving. Toys and other gifts placed under the tree will be handed on to the local Vinnies for distribution to families and individuals who could do with a helping hand and some Christmas goodwill. If the kids are into Christmas craft, pop along to the Library on Thursday, 4 December for some after school craft activities. The Millgrove Christmas Market on Sunday, 30 November, is a fantastic chance to do some Christmas gift shopping and to help put money back into schools, churches and sporting groups. About 45 stalls have booked in already and there is room for more. Phone Maureen from Millgrove Residents’ Action Group (MRAG) on 0419 593 552 if you would like a stall. On to Warby where Warburton Valley Handmade at the Waterwheel is running a Christmas Night Market from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, 5 December. More than 40 creative artisans contribute to the shop with items including jewellery, clothes, art, toys, books, music, cards and soaps, lavender products and local wines. There will be lots of art and craft stalls on the deck for this special event as well as an exhibition of Yarra Valley landscapes by photographers Alan Garner and Kirsty Chalmers in the gallery. Mary’s Boy Child Long time ago in Bethlehem, So the Holy Bible say, Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ, Was born on Christmas day. Hark, now hear the angels sing, A new King born today, And man will live for evermore, Because of Christmas day, Trumpets sound and angels sing, Listen to what they say, That man will live forever more, Because of Christmas day. While shepherds watched their flock by night, they saw a bright new shining star, And heard a choir from heaven sing, The music came from afar, Now Joseph and his wife Mary, Came to Bethlehem that night, They found no place to bear her child, Not a single room was in sight.

The final pitch By JESSE GRAHAM EILDON candidates took one last chance to sway voters last week, gathering for a special candidates’ forum to kick off the final week of the State Election campaign. Six out of eight of the Eildon election candidates fronted the forum on Friday 21 November at Healesville’s Memo Hall, with over 100 people turning out for the event. The forum was organised by Yarra Valley FM 99.1 and the Mail Newspaper Group, with the Yarra Ranges Council donating the venue for the evening and the forum was broadcast live on the radio station. Each of the candidates was given five minutes to outline their policies and make statements about the election campaign, before Mail Editor, Melissa Meehan, posed questions to the candidates and mediated questions from the floor with YVFM Chairman, Rodney Ball. In one of her first speeches as a candidate, after announcing on the 14 November registration deadline, Independent candidate Jane Judd urged political candidates to focus on addressing issues, rather than oppositional politicking. Other candidates took the moment to talk about their key areas of concern, with Labor’s Sally Brennan raising education and economic growth and Independent Bruce Argyle bringing up local issues over party politics. The Nationals’ Jim Child brought up Coalition initiatives such as the Warburton natural gas pipeline. Liberal Party candidate Cindy McLeish criticised the former Labor Government and praised other Coalition announcements, such as the East-West Link and the $7.8 million Healesville Hospital redevelopment. The Greens’ Marie Sellstrom urged environmental action, and said she wanted to increase solar power use and the reinstatement of the Renewable Energy Target. As with previous candidates’ forums, the issue of the Great Forest National Park proposal dominated conversations, with many passionate questions from the floor on the matter. Mr Child, Ms McLeish and Ms Brennan all re-stated their opposition to the proposal, while the Greens’ Marie Sellstrom said the issue was ‘central’ to her party’s campaign. Ms Judd and Mr Argyle both said that discussions about the park and its details needed to take

Talk then turned to issues around mental health, drug and ice (methamphetamine) use and homelessness, and all candidates were in agreement that more needed to be done in the outer east. Mr Child said that ice was an “absolute scourge” in communities, while Ms Sellstrom said it was a “hugely serious” issue in the electorate, urging for more outreach programs for people suffering mental health and living with substance abuse. Responding to family violence was another key issue for the candidates, and Ms McLeish said it would be important to not only address homelessness, but the wider issues that can cause it, such as family violence and drug abuse. Ms Judd said that families needed support programs when children were young, which would help to bring stability before children became older and more issues arose.
All candidates were in unison that local and accessible housing for homeless people was important - Mr Argyle said the first six weeks for people out of homes were ‘critical’ and that early intervention was needed. A community member, who allegedly experienced childhood sexual abuse by a family member, asked each of the parties to support the introduction of a pilot program to address the issue and to pledge their support before the election on 29 November. Ms McLeish and Ms Brennan both agreed to take the matter to their parties’ ministers immediately, and Ms Brennan said she would campaign for the pilot to go ahead, regardless of the election’s winner. Ms Sellstrom said she could not make a preelection commitment specifically, but that she would like to see the pilot become part of the Greens’ $100 million-per-year family violence prevention program if elected. Mr Child said that, despite beliefs that one
party or the other would win the seat outright, the vote for Eildon would “go down to the wire”. All of the candidates for Eildon were contacted to take part in the event. Family First candidate David Prentice was not able to attend, due to prior commitments, and Jeffrey Leake from the Country Alliance failed to show up on the night, despite confirming his attendance to the Mail. The broadcast of the candidates’ forum will be repeated on Wednesday 26 November from 7pm on Yarra Valley FM 99.1, and is available to download as a podcast at www.yarravalleyfm. com. The Victorian State Election will be held on Saturday 29 November. For more information, and a map of voting stations, visit www.vec.vic. gov.au. The Mail will be publishing questionnaires sent to each of the Eildon candidates online at mail.starcommunity.com.au in the lead-up to the election.

Mayoral move for McCarthy By JESSE GRAHAM THE Yarra Ranges will have a new mayor for the New Year, with Fiona McAllister stepping down at next Tuesday’s election and her deputy throwing her hat in the ring for the top spot. Cr McAllister, who was elected mayor on 6 November last year alongside deputy Maria McCarthy, told the Mail that she would not be running again in the council’s 2 December mayoral election. Her reason for not re-contesting, she said, was because she wanted others to experience the role. “There are many reasons why I decided not to put my hand up, and that’s one of them,” Cr McAllister said. “If there are others who are interested, it’s such an incredible opportunity to get a turn, and it’d be great for someone else to have that opportunity as well.” While she did not have a pick for who might put their hand up for the role, Cr McAllister said the position was usually hotly contested. “I know the history of Yarra Ranges is that there’s normally at least two - I’m sure it will be contested,” she said.
Cr McAllister won the mayoral position in a five-to-four vote against Lyster Ward councillor, Samantha Dunn. Cr McCarthy, meanwhile, said she would be going for the mayoral position in the election. She said that she made the decision to stand for mayor recently, and that she had experienced the role briefly when stepping in as acting mayor earlier in the year. “It’s been a wonderful time (as deputy mayor) - Fiona has been a great mayor and we’ve worked really well together,” she said. “It’s been something new almost every day and that’s been great. “I’ll put my hat in the ring and see how I go.” Cr McAllister and Cr McCarthy’s election to the role of mayor and deputy mayor marked the first time in the Yarra Ranges Council’s 19-year history that two women had been elected to the top roles at the same time. The mayoral election will be held on Tuesday 2 December at the Yarra Ranges Council Chambers at 15 Anderson Street, Lilydale, from 7pm. For the result of the meeting, see mail.starcommunity.com.au.

Kids off on Third World trip By KATH GANNAWAY A GROUP of students from Upper Yarra Secondary College will spend the next week in Cambodia as part of a Rotary World of Difference Humanitarian Travel project. After a year of fund-raising, the students and staff left on Saturday for the 10-day tour which will see them visiting and working with disadvantaged groups, experiencing Cambodia’s culture and learning about the dark history of the country. Teacher Bronwen Foley said the trip would be both confronting and lifechanging for the students and for the Cambodian children and communities
they visited. “Our group will get the opportunity to experience another culture which will be so different to what we experience in the Upper Yarra Valley,” she said. “When not undertaking humanitarian work, we will have varied experiences from the infamous Khmer Rouge prison, torture centre and the Killing Fields to learning about the animals in slavery, experiencing different meals and using a traditional scythe to harvest a crop. “Seeing and experiencing village life in a Third World country with no taps, toilets or electricity will be confronting to our students, many of whom would think being without internet access is the
end of the world,” she said, but added the experience would build self-awareness, resilience, self-esteem and independence. The students will give a presentation to Rotary and to Upper Yarra Community Enterprise which through the Warburton and Yarra Junction Bendigo Community Banks has contributed to sponsoring the trip. “Through their experience with the Cambodian people, students will be able to filter through to students and adults in the Yarra Valley that living with multiculturism is something that we should embrace in our community and not be afraid of,” Ms Foley said.

Hard for the holidays By JESSE GRAHAM CHRISTMAS, for some, is one of the happiest times of the year, but the holiday season is looking grim for HICCI and its clients, as food stores dry up. Healesville Interchurch Community Care Incorporated’s (HICCI) executive officer, Kerri Goding, contacted the Mail last week with a dire outlook for the holiday season. Due to declining stock ordered through Foodbank Victoria and a drop-off in public food donations, Ms Goding said the organisation’s Emergency Relief program - where people in need could collect donated food - was quickly running out of food. Emergency Relief co-ordinator Sheree Laumen said the stocks at HICCI were at their lowest point in over five years, and that many staple foods were urgently needed. Ms Laumen said that, due to food offerings at Foodbank being lower than usual, HICCI was limited in what it could order to be freighted to town. “You can only get a dozen-or-so milk, or a dozen baked beans, whereas before you could order as much as you wanted,” she said. “That, together with a drop-off in community donations has left us in a bit of a tight spot.” More than 400 people and families regularly make use of the Emergency Relief service, and over 200 people contact HICCI yearly for hampers of Christmas food under the program. Ms Laumen said the Christmas hampers, made up of donated food, were a way of easing the financial stress that many in the community suffered during the holiday period. “It means a lot to them - people often cry when they come in and get their hamper,” she said. “It’s a blessing for them, and it’s a

“People tell us all the time that it makes the difference for them to survive, coming to HICCI - they can pay their bills, get their responsibilities paid and they know that, if they’re short, they can come and get food from us.” Ms Laumen said that HICCI had a shopping budget for its Emergency Relief program, but without the help of public
Bravery awards honour for firies By JESSE GRAHAM FIREFIGHTERS who risked their lives fighting the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009 have been given prestigious bravery awards for their work in protecting their community. On 14 November, 14 firefighters from the Marysville Fire Brigade received a Group Bravery Citation under the Australian Bravery Decorations Awards at Melbourne’s Government House. The awards honoured the group’s commitment to protecting their community during the devastating Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. According to the bravery citation, the firefighters were
deployed on 7 February to fight the extreme bushfires bearing down on the area some maintained communications at their station, while others joined the Alexandra Group Strike Team to fight the Murrindindi Mill and later at Granton and Marysville. Once the fires began to hit the town, the group retreated to Gallipoli Park and protected 250 people who had evacuated to the sports grounds, and continued to protect residents and buildings in the town after the fire-front passed. Glen and Kellan Fiske, Patrick Flannagan, Christopher, Susan and Travis Gleeson, Christopher Haden, Mark
Hamdorf, Pauline Harrow, John Malcolm, Roger Martin, Stewart Potter, John Ratcliffe and Richard Uden were all named as recipients of the Group Bravery Citation. The group bravery award is the latest honour for members of the brigade, with National Emergency Medals presented to Marysville Fire Brigade members earlier this year. The Medal of the Order of Australia recognises outstanding achievement and contribution in the Australian honours system, and the bravery awards are given to people who demonstrate bravery in putting themselves in danger in order to help another.
Significant oak tree will face up to the Yarra Ranges axe YARRA Ranges Council will remove a significant oak tree on Green Street, Healesville, tomorrow - Wednesday 26 November. The tree, one of three earmarked for removal, has been monitored by council’s arborists. The condition of the tree, located outside Mocha and Lime
Cafe, has deteriorated and, according to Yarra Ranges Council had to go in the interest of public safety. Yarra Ranges mayor Fiona McAllister said while the trees were a significant part of the streetscape, public safety had to come first. “Unfortunately, the condition of this tree has deteriorated

donations, the demand for food could quickly outstrip supply - meaning some may go without. “I buy food here - and spend a couple of thousand each month - but we’ve only got so many dollars to spend,” she said. “It just means that we can’t give people as much as we normally do.” A second blow to the organisation is uncertainty that remains about their funding from the Federal Government - Ms Laumen said their regular annual funding now had to be applied for, and that the news would come down by 31 December whether or not HICCI would be funded for another year. If the funds are not renewed, HICCI would not be able to purchase food under the Emergency Relief program, and the organisation would lose all paid staff. “It would have to be done by volunteers - we wouldn’t have the funds to purchase any food,” Ms Lauman said. “It would only be what’s donated, and that is a miniscule amount. “If the tender didn’t go to anyone else to cover this area, Healesville would have no Emergency Relief - it would mean people going without.” She said that cereals, cans of tuna, baked beans, spaghetti, biscuits, cordial and herbs and spices were all muchneeded staple foods, along with lollies, Christmas cakes, fruit juices and canned vegetables for Christmas hampers, and urged residents to buy a little extra in their shopping to help out. Drop-off points for donations are located at Healesville’s Coles and IGA supermarkets, at the Healesville Community Bank, the Yarra Glen Community Reading Room and at HICCI’s main office next to the Memo Hall. The Mail will also be collecting donations for HICCI at its office at 244 Maroondah Highway from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday until Friday 12 December.
Cars destroyed in crash POLICE are investigating the circumstances of a crash in Coldstream that left two cars destroyed on the weekend. At 12.50pm on Saturday 22 November, a vehicle with four occupants was waiting to turn right into a service lane opposite Rochford Wines in Coldstream. Police believe another driver, a Buxton woman, failed to see the car had stopped, and ran into the back of it. Both cars were written off in the crash, and some of the occupants received minor injuries. Healesville police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 5962 4422.
Labor pledge on Swinburne campus LABOR has pledged a $10 million investment into its campaign to re-open Lilydale’s former Swinburne TAFE campus if elected this weekend. The party, which has previously promised to re-open the former university site for TAFE and university services, announced that it would also fund the project with $10 million. The Victorian State Election will be held on Saturday 29 November. For more details, and polling booth locations, visit www.vec.vic.gov.au.

Artists stream in By KATH GANNAWAY QUEENS Park was transformed into an intriguing, wonderland of water discovery with the staging of Waterway Reflections on Saturday 15 November. Through storytelling, song, dance, sculpture and puppetry, 19 artists took an audience of all ages on a journey of discovery of the park’s two waterways, Grace Burn and the Wirrup Yaluk. Presented by HEWI (Healesville Environment Watch Inc) the event was an engaging theatrical journey led by storyteller John Ashton as a way of celebrating the role water plays in our lives. Starting with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Allan and Perry Wandin and encountering along the way bees and fish, water rats, dragonflies and songstresses, a particularly annoying Ibis, water nymphs and other creatures, the event captured the imagination of young and old as a memorable 150th gift to the Healesville community.

IF anyone has any doubts about Marie Sellstrom’s stamina in the face of the coming State Election, she proved on Sunday that she can walk the talk. The Greens’ Eildon candidate walked from Warburton to Healesville in blistering heat on Sunday to show the party’s support for the establishment of the Great Forest National Park. It’s a contentious issue in Eildon with the Liberal, National, Country Alliance and Labor parties coming out against the proposal. While The Greens claim it is an issue that has galvanised the state, and cite polls showing Victorians overwhelmingly support the concept, mainstream parties say it will cost jobs and tie up the parks.

Performance was rubbish all round By KATH GANNAWAY A WESBURN man has been left scratching his head over why rubbish dumped in the bush at Wesburn is still there nearly two months after he reported it. The Mail reported on John Tucker’s disgust in mid-September that a load of household rubbish had been dumped in a popular bush-walking area near Britannia Creek. Mr Tucker said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he returned to the same spot last week to find the rubbish still there. “I’m fuming; whatever the procedure is, it’s not working, he said after contacting Yarra Ranges Council to follow up on why nothing had been done. Mr Tucker said he was told as it was on Crown Land he should contact his local MP. He did, only to be told it was DEPI he needed to contact. Both DEPI and Yarra Ranges Council have provided statements about the process - but no insight as to what went wrong in this case. David Clarkson, Manager Community Compliance with the council said they encouraged residents to report dumped rubbish.

White Rabbit’s got silver lining By JESSE GRAHAM THERE may be a silver lining in the clouds hanging over the decision to close Healesville’s White Rabbit Brewery, with tourism representatives weighing in on future opportunities for the site. The Mail reported last week that the brewery, which has become a local icon since setting up five years ago, would close at the end of May 2015. The decision came from the brewery’s owning company, Lion, who claimed that the ability for growth at the current site was “restricted and that the brewery would be re-located to their central brewery in Geelong. Yarra Ranges Tourism Chief Operating Officer Simon O’Callaghan said that the decision was disappointing, and that the beer had established a “strong regional brand since opening in 2009. But Mr O’Callaghan said the closure would also provide an “exciting opportunity for another business to set up or expand into the current brewery site. “There are a variety of opportunities on this terrific site for any number of prospective businesses, he said. “We are confident that

Wine Yarra Valley CEO, Richard Howden, expressed a similar point of view and said that, while he was disappointed about the decision, it would open the door to a new tourist icon. “They were a great asset, and a great place to pop in and have a beer,â€? he said. “It’s always disappointing when businesses move out of the Yarra Valley, but it is exciting - it opens the door for something new. “It will be interesting to see who takes up that site I’d imagine there’d be a few people looking at it very closely.â€? Opinion Climate of fear THE Fire Rating Index was set at 100 for the conditions of the 1939 fires. The 1983 fires had a FRI of 97. In 2009, it was an unprecedented 150. The last Queensland floods were unprecedented. Hurricane Sandy in the USA and Typhoon Haian in the Philippines were unprecedented. Norway’s forests burned, during the northern winter of 2012. California’s current drought is unprecedented, as is the one in Brazil. Last northern summer, there were unprecedentedly savage fires in North America’s western mountain forests, and in Siberia. Climate change is here. It is real. It is killing people now. We should be on an emergency footing to do something about it. Instead, the Victorian COALition Government wants to export brown coal, the dirtiest fuel there is. It wants to install a controversial tunnel instead of spending those billions on public transport. It is opposed to wind power, which has demonstrably had no bad effects on health. It uses taxpayer money to prop up VicForests, which is converting forest into woodchips, at a financial loss, and only employs some 400 people, compared to thousands in the tourist industries that depend on our beautiful surroundings. If you want a future for yourself and your kids, you need to vote for the environment. In our electorate, only one candidate stands for the environment: Marie Sellstrom of the Greens. She deserves to be placed first. Thanks to preferential voting, you can do that and still support whichever of the dinosaur parties you want. Bob Rich, Healesville.
in rectifying and refunding overcharging on my account. She asked for my bank card details as further verification and I said that she should have them. She said that she understood my uneasiness with this and that she gave me her full name and employee ID. As if reading from a screen, she proceeded to give me the first five digits of my credit card hoping that I would complete or correct her. I requested her telephone number, and when this was not forthcoming, I hung up. I rang my bank immediately and was told that there had been a number of reports of this scam. Be warned, give no details. Rosemary Crowley, Wesburn.
Where Cindy lives IN THE course of this campaign I have been questioned about whether I live in the Eildon electorate. Let me set the record straight. I want to make it very clear to all voters in the Eildon electorate that I live in Glenburn, and have done so for more than the past two years. I was raised in Yea, and my family has lived in the area for five generations. As soon as I was elected as the Member for Seymour in 2010, I set about establishing my permanent residence in the electorate. I made the commitment to move back into the electorate and I built on family land and live there. Politics can be a dirty game, particularly when opponents and their campaign team stoop to the depths of making false and ridiculous claims. I am not in the game of playing gutter politics but I will not stand by and allow false accusations to be made against me. Cindy McLeish MP, Liberal Candidate for Eildon, State Member for Seymour

Vote for education
LAST week I received a telephone call. The caller was purporting to be from the Commonwealth Bank’s head office in Sydney. She knew my name and asked my birthdate to verify who I was. She went on to say that no doubt I had seen the news about bank overcharging and that the bank was working with the Office of Fair Trading
PEOPLE in the outer east need the opportunity to participate in higher education, TAFE and community education in Lilydale. The best site is the Swinburne University site. What a waste if it is not used by the community. All political parties should commit to reclaiming the site from Swinburne and making it available for alternative providers to ensure that
higher and community education as well as TAFE is available there. If these forms of education are important, voters are urged to allocate their vote to the individual or party which ensures that the outer east will no longer be the only metropolitan region without all of these opportunities available within the region. Bernard G. Dobson, Yarra Valley Educational Precinct Committee.
It's just wrong ONE aspect of the temporary TAFE at Lilydale utilising the previous Ford used car yard and buildings not mentioned is that it is totally inappropriate to have students in an educational facility in among industral uses/activities. A school is a prohibited use in an industrial complex/zone for obvious reasons, i.e. fire, gas leaks, noise, toxic dust in the air and poor amenity. Whoever thought up this proposal needs their head read. This concept was a furphy right from the start and it will not con the public. The future of young adults is of paramont importance and TAFE schools should not be treated as part of a political football. Our youth's educational future depends on smart and convenient education facilies in Lilydale, not some dumb mock-up pretending to be a TAFE. Bruce Johnson, Monbulk.
What a dud DANIEL Andrews' election promise that they will not turn the North-South Pipeline on is simply an admission by Labor that the pipeline is a “dud”. Poorly designed, extremely expensive to use and maintain and of no benefit whatsoever to the donor region, that is the Goulburn River catchment. Sugarloaf Reservoir, the Melbourne Water dam that is the only supply point for the pipeline is currently 95.1 per cent full and does not have the capacity to receive 75 megalitres per year of Goulburn River Water. So it is patently obvious that, even if the pipeline was turned on, the water has nowhere to go. Just another one of the Labor Party’s ill-conceived ideas. The electricity cost alone of pumping pipeline water 285 metres up and over the Great Divide to Melbourne is horrendous.
Come election day, just remember your $750 million lies buried under the ground, between Yea and Sugarloaf, from which we will never receive any benefit whatsoever. Jan Beer, Yea.
End of an era THE end of an era has come to Warburton. Pete the Postie who has delivered our mail in oppressive heat and freezing cold with paradise in between for more than 30 years has retired. Thanks Pete and best wishes to the entire family in your sea change retirement. A new era has also come to Warburton. Thanks to the Advancement League team who do the hard labour to keep the river walks manicured, we can see the snakes now. With special thanks to John who cleans all of the outdoor seats with soap and water so tourists and locals can sit on them without being soiled. Finally, just clearing up another matter, we are 'local’ to the objective postcode where we live, nothing more or less. Karen Grulke, Warburton.
Liberal attitude INTERESTING to note that the Napthine Liberal Government has given $45 million to upgrade TAFE in Frankston, yet they give the outer east only $2.25 million to start a small TAFE in a caryard. Could this be because they won the seat of Evelyn in the last election by 12 per cent? Could they be saying ‘we’ve got that won - we don’t need to back up our candidate out there by finding a solution to their education crisis?’ Could this also be the reason why the seat of Frankston got $45 million? Is Frankston, unlike Evelyn, a seat the Liberals think they need to win? Anthony McAleer, Independent Candidate for Evelyn.

Meet the Candidates - Evelyn
What issues will hit the mark? ONLY 11 days remain until the Victorian election, and candidates have been busy campaigning, making pledges and trying to win voters over. The Mail contacted each of the candidates for the Evelyn electorate with questions about their policies and priorities if elected at the weekend. The questions posed to each of the candidates were: 1. What are your policies in regards to the former Swinburne TAFE campus in Lilydale? 2. Crime and Crime Prevention? 3. Why should people vote for you on 29 November? The candidates’ full answers to all questions will be posted online at mail. starcommunity.com.au. The Mail attempted numerous times to contact Independent candidate Lawrence Mobsby but was not able to reach him. Christine Fyffe, Liberal.
Peter Harris, Labor
1. I, along with the Minister for Higher Education Nick Wakeling, have been committed to bring higher education back to Lilydale. The news that Box Hill Institute will open a flexible learning space providing over 20 courses in areas of skills storage and employment is very welcomed. Melba Support Services will move its adult training support into one of the buildings on the Swinburne site. In regard to any further service providers using the buildings, Swinburne University made the decision not to accept any of the other expression of interest applications submitted.
1. The undisputed number one issue people in our community have raised with me is the closing down of our TAFE. Swinburne directly attributed this closure to the Napthine Government’s savage cuts within the sector. To tell our community that they will lose a state-of-the-art purpose built facility and it will be replaced by an abandoned disused car yard is beyond insulting. Some 20 years ago this TAFE was built because the Yarra Ranges had the lowest uptake of post-secondary education in the state; it seems this government is happy to confine our community to this damning statistic once again. If Labor is elected in November we have committed to doing whatever it takes to return TAFE, higher and community education back to this state-ofthe-art site.
2. I believe community safety is fundamental to maintaining a high quality of life. I am pleased to inform Yarra Ranges residents that the Napthine Coalition Government has provided more than $500,000 in crime prevention funding across the municipality since 2011. This money has been used to fund 24 diverse crime prevention projects. These include projects to improve lighting in public plac-
es, to projects to keep young people engaged, improved lights, locks and alarm systems on a number of valuable community facilities, and funding for multiple projects to tackle the scourge of graffiti. 3. I believe that a vote for me and the Napthine Government is a vote for a better Vic-
toria, one that is more prosperous, healthier, smarter and more secure. The Victorian Coalition has honoured the pledges made at the 2010 election and, in so doing, is building a better Victoria. We will honour all the pledges being made at this election. I am passionate about the Yarra Valley, there is no better place.
2. Crime is up under the Liberals rians are far less More people are
every year and Victosafe today. turning to
Labor candidate Peter Harris. crime because the Liberals have abandoned our communities, cut more than $100 million and sacked more than 400 staff from Victoria Police, and have done nothing to fix the jobs crisis. 3. I don’t have all of the answers but I’m willing to listen to my community and advocate on their behalf. I’m not seeking this position lightly; I believe our community needs a voice
and a representative who will put them first. I’m not a professional politician and I believe my training as a community development worker will help me effectively represent this community’s needs as part of what I hope will be an Andrews Labor Government after November. 1. My ultimate goal is to have a stand-alone university and TAFE with access for community education returned and developed on the site. It should not be rezoned away from educational use; it should not be sold off to developers. 2. The number one burning issue for the outer east is our lack of post-secondary educational facilities. We are now the only region in Melbourne without its own higher education facility, there is nothing between Bundoora and Berwick. As a result our kids are being
more disadvantaged on this issue than others, our kids are being forced to travel further and spend more time travelling in order to study and worse, our kids are finding it all too hard and opting not to undertake further studies. 3. This election I encourage everyone not to vote for a party or a premier but for the most important issue in your area - education. Our kids deserve the same post-secondary facilities that every other region in Melbourne enjoys. This time vote for whoever you think will provide that. You voted for a political party last time and you can vote for political party next time. This time make your vote count for education.
Damien de Pyle, Australian Christians 1. As a TAFE student myself, I fully understand the inconvenience of the current TAFE fees and the closure of the Lilydale TAFE campus. The Australian Christians don’t currently have a specific policy in regards to re-opening the Lilydale campus of the Swinburne TAFE. However, I strongly support reopening it. I also believe in implementing policies to make sure that the Lilydale Swinburne campus is run smoothly and efficiently to make sure the campus isn’t shut down again in the future. 2. We believe that the reduction of crime in Victoria can be done in many ways. Firstly, we recognise
Sandra Betts, The Greens that there are many social factors that can lead a person to committing a crime. We believe that good strong families can help nurture great upstanding citizens who will uphold and respect the law. Therefore, we would want to see policies put into place that would encourage those great family structures that will create great law-abiding citizens. We also want to improve ways of protecting our police force. 3. You don’t have to be religious to vote for the Australian Christians. We represent values that will help shape our society for the better with great biblical principles that promote family, freedom and life. At the end of the day you need to vote for someone who best represents what you believe, and not for who you think will be better out of the major parties.
1. The Greens support advanced levels of tertiary education at Lilydale. The Box Hill solution is inadequate to the needs of students. Students from outlying areas, such as the Eildon and Evelyn electorates need academic accommodation in Lilydale to attend university and TAFE courses. The Box Hill proposal does not take this need into account. We support the provision of university, TAFE, ACE and VET services in an expanded campus, such as the former Swinburne site. My personal experiences with private tertiary services is that appropriate standards are not maintained to the same high levels as in professional public academic services, such as universities. A better solution, more suited to the needs of the areas and population involved is needed. 2. The Greens believe in prevention of crime by supporting
public health, welfare, education and housing services. We believe that minor crimes should be approached differently to major crimes of violence and predation. Where a person’s crimes would be better dealt with by home detention and supervised reporting systems these approaches should be employed to prevent an individual’s contact with the prisons system and descent into further and increasing criminal behaviours. But where crimes of predatory, sexual, violent and escalating or recurring repetition is involved more stringent measures are required as the duty to protect the public becomes much greater. 3. I am a person with a clear vision of what I want to achieve. I care about people, our future (and thus, our children) and the state and country’s direction. I am passionate about giving democracy back to the people. I am intelligent and well informed and willing to work hard for improvements in our world.

Portal of heart
Gosia’s feast for the senses
By KATH GANNAWAY
WORK inspired by an artist’s time locked in a sensory limitation cube will go on display at the TarraWarra Museum of Art in Healesville on 29 November. Last year Gosia Wlodarczak spent 17 days enclosed in the cube without exposure to the outside world, drawing what she could see and feel. In her new exhibition Found in Translation, Ms Wlodarczak includes pieces from her time spent in the cube. It will also include drawings of a Chinese poem and a live performance of a drawing in the Museum on
HEALESVILLE artist Amanda Ruck will stage her 17th solo exhibition, Interdimensional Portal of My Heart, at Yering Station Art Gallery. Amanda was exhibition coordinator at the gallery for three years and has co-ordinated the Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition and Awards - so it’s a return to familiar surrounds. Interdimensional Portal of My Heart features Amanda’s beautiful, dark and broody terrestrial landscapes with vast skies full of cumulus clouds in varying shapes and forms. Landscapes, and particularly clouds, became a major focus for Amanda after moving to Melbourne, and to the Yarra Valley in 1998. In 2007 she began painting in acrylic on 30x30cm canvas, creating atmospheric landscapes with sweeping skies and recently she has chosen to work on a larger scale, using clouds as a vehicle to depict the weather patterns of her heart.

6 February. Ms Wlodarczak’s collection will open at the same time as exhibitions by Ian Fairweather and Tony Tuckson. The exhibitions echo the cross-cultural interests of the artists, and translation of culture is a key theme of the work. Abstract lines, colours and images are major features. Ian Fairweather’s The Drunken Buddha series will be available to the public for the first time in 50 years. The collection is based on the antics of the 13th century monk Chi-tien, reflecting Mr Fairweather’s fascination with Asian culture. Paintings and Drawings by
Tony Tuckson shows inspiration from Mr Fairweather, and other artists like Picasso. Mr Tuckson’s easel paintings portray a range of feelings and energy. Director of TarraWarra Museum Victoria Lynn, highlights the experience of all the artists that can be found in their work. “These three artists ... present a unique opportunity to view the important stories of modernism through the filter of the present,” she said. The three exhibitions will be open over the summer period, until 15 March next year.

Hard science, soft drama and life seems unchanged. Cooper’s relationship with his young daughter Murph (Mackenzie Foy) is heartbreaking; the sub-plot with Murph’s older self (Jessica Chastain) is rushed and simplistic. The ending may also make or break the film for you.For the record, I thought it was ingeniously elegant, but it may stretch credibility too far for you. Not a bad movie by any stretch, Interstellar is just too flat, talky and heavy-handed in the downtime between the thrilling spectacle. Call it a mild failure. - Seth Hynes

INTERSTELLAR, Christopher Nolan’s latest science fiction epic, is an epic, beautiful, exciting mess. For a near-future Earth stricken with catastrophic food shortages, space travel is both a fading dream and humanity’s last hope. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a pilot turned farmer, leads a daring mission through a wormhole in the hope of finding habitable planets for us to live on.
Interstellar is anchored by a remarkably emotional performance from McConaughey, and has some staggering imagery, exhilarating set-pieces and a fantastic commitment to scientific accuracy rarely seen in mainstream blockbusters. But while it gets the specifics right, Interstellar neglects the general stuff, as the human drama is badly mismanaged. Every character except Cooper feels underdeveloped, the dialogue is dry and overblown and the themes of love and connection feel trite. Much of the suspense from the doomed Earth is also diminished when you notice that over two decades have passed

other perfect 25/25 to go into a shoot-off against Trevor Ewert and Geoff Hill, also on 25/25. It took only a few shots for Ewert to take the Trophy (33/33) leaving Hill (32/33) and Bedggood (26/27) in his wake. Fourth place was taken by Mark Wilkinson (41/43) after a shoot-off against Lauchlan O’Halloran and Darren Clarke. To finish the day there was the President’s 25 target Tower Championship in which only Ian Findlay and Jake Murray managed 25/25. After a short shoot-off Findlay claimed the sash (27/27), Murray 2nd (26/27). A shoot off for third and fourth resulted in Dave Hoon third (36/37) from Jim West fourth (35/37). The overall High Gun was a close call with Trevor Ewert (73/75) just edging out junior shooter Jake Murray (72/75). Encouragement prizes were presented to the junior shooters, Jake Murray, Luke Murray and Byron Foley. The next shoot is the Christmas Shoot on Sunday 14 December.

Race fun in the sun By KATH GANNAWAY RACEGOERS at Healesville Picnic Races on Saturday couldn’t get enough of the country race day fun. With plenty of daylight left after the last race, they moved to the dance floor. Grooving to a mix that included Paul Kelly, Johnny Cash, Creedence and crowd favourites such as Brown-Eyed Girl and Pretty Woman, the crowd pushed the band, David Ricciuti and daughter Rachel from Silvan and Warburton ex-pat Dave Walker, to four encores before they were reluctantly allowed to pull the plug. Upward of 4000 people came from all around Victoria for second of the six-race season. Fine weather, strong fields and great entertainment combined to provide the perfect setting for groups celebrating everything from birthdays and buck's days to netball end-of-season celebrations. The social aspect was something Mark and Tracey Brennan from the Mallee said was a winner for them as first-time racegoers. Ferntree Gully ‘buck’ Ryan Howard (who would have been a strong contender for Fashions on
the Field had there been one) went on recommendations from friends in choosing Healesville for his buck's day. “We wanted a country race meeting and it had been a fantastic, day,” he said. Mason Byrne and sister Emma, also from Ferntree Gully, came away winners with an armful of soft toys from the Healeville Lions lucky number tent. “We love Healesville,” said their mum Zivanka. “My husband is a bookmaker here and we love that it’s such a family and community fun day.” The Shepparton Bears netballers, made a weekend of it staying two nights in the town and adding to the tourist dollar. Healesville Amateur Racing Club committee members were also happy - a big, well-behaved crowd and a cloudless sky put smiles on their faces. And, with marquee packages fully booked for the next two meetings - 13 December and Cup Day on 10 January, they are looking forward to continuing a successful season. The final meetings are on 31 January and 28 March.

Batsmen on back foot as whips start cracking YVCA IT HAS come to the time in the cricket season where the whips start cracking for the men in white as Christmas approaches. There has long been a saying that wins before Christmas are crucial for finals aspirants, and this could not be closer to the truth in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association this season - especially in D.J. Strachan Shield where the gap between top and bottom is minimal. Therefore most, if not all, games are crucial to a team’s chances of making finals, even this early in the season. Week one of round six followed a worrying trend for batsmen around the association as many struggled to handle the conditions. Some would say the conditions played a part, but for those soaking up the sunshine on the sidelines, one would be forgiven for thinking the day produced perfect batting conditions - so the questions still remain on the batsmen’s temperament and concentration. Hoddles Creek had the most difficult time with the bat as they battled Woori Yallock on the road. The Wombats did manage to bat out all but the last 30 minutes of the day, however their slow run rate meant they were unable to secure a total of significance. Battling against the brilliant all-round ability of Simon Young (5/26) and the spinning guile of Ben Hayes (2/16), Simon McLauchlan managed to hold an end during the visitors' innings of 105, but his 48 runs only allowed the Wombats to just scrape past three figures. With 30 minutes to bowl, and nothing to lose, opening bowler Nick Bark ensured the Wombats wouldn’t go home empty handed, snaring two wickets and reducing the Tigers to 3/18. With the trend of batting in the Valley, and the dismissal of captain Daniel Mock, Woori Yallock still has a battle on its hands to secure the victory. One suggests that they will manage to find a partnership big enough to get there, but with three wickets already in the shed, and a fresh bowling line-up next week, they won’t be without a struggle. In their first game since last year’s grand final, Yarra Junction hosted Seville in a beautifully positioned contest between two sides desperate to again establish their positions in the upper rungs of the ladder. Seville batted first, and as has been the case for the Blues this season, they threatened to post a big total with the bat, showing they have the firepower. However, once again, their batsmen failed to cash in when set. This can’t be said about Scott Rackham. The opener was unfazed by the wickets falling at the other end as he compiled a masterful 73 not out, carrying his bat throughout the innings. With that stability at one end, the visitors were able to put some partnerships together to build a defensible total of 163.
The disappointment for the Blues would be their inability to capitalise on the Eagles' parttime bowlers. Having seen off the likes of Quinton Hodgkinson and Terry Ottrey, the batsmen succumbed to the unfashionable, but useful, parttime bowling of Marcus Hottes (2/0), Brad Nightingale (2/12) and Cameron Spaulding (2/40). The Eagles have given themselves a sniff of chasing victory, however they will have to bat well against a probing bowling attack and the seasonally slow Yarra Junction Reserve. Seville will be comfortable with their position as they have made an art form out of defending totals around 150 over the past five or six seasons. The final game of the round saw the flying Burras of Warburton-Millgrove travel to Healesville, keen to build on their smashing of Mount Evelyn in round five. The visitors started the game with the ball, and the man with the hot arm David Lever (3/30) made sure the Burras had the early upper hand. Bloods captain Ash Hamer (39) partnered with Ben Mackey (27) and the pair went about rescuing the innings through the middle stages, however neither was able to build on their starts. As is so often the case when playing against Warburton-Millgrove, the spinners turned the screws on the middle to lower order. Led by Daniel Lever (5/34), the visitors polished off the Bloods for a below-par 150. With time still remaining in the day's play, Ash Hamer was able to remove in-form opener Ben Lever, but Liam Barnard ensured his team had the upper hand at the end of the day finishing on 1/28. Again 150 will be a tricky total to chase and with canny wicket takers of the likes of Dylan Moore and Chance Burridge, coupled with the experience and firepower of Ash Hamer, the Bloods are still in the hunt. However with a long batting line-up, 150 soon becomes a small total, as the Burras only need a couple of their line-up to post scores to secure victory. D.J. Strachan Shield Seville 163 (S.
