THE young people who will be shaping Melbourne’s real estate future attended the RMIT - Red23 Industry Learning Day recently. More than 50 RMIT property, construction and project management students were given real life experience in how to create, manage and complete a property development by leading industry experts. The Industry Learning Day, organized by residential sales and marketing group Red23, was designed to give third and fourth year property students exposure to the complexities of property development in a “live” environment. The students were presented with many practical example aspects of the types of property development that they are studying in their property, construction and project management degree.

Key development topics were examined in presentations by Russel Tait, Project Planner from the City of Greater Dandenong, Rolland Gorriceta from the Burbank Group and David Lunardi a development manager at Intrapac. The topics covered all aspects of the delivery of the projects including site acquisition, planning, legal, marketing, construction, operation and risk mitigation. The three presenters used real live examples across both land and builtform in the Dandenong region following site visits to Burbank’s Metro Village-Mosaic apartments in central Dandenong and Intrapac’s Somerfield project in Keysborough. “Red23 is extremely committed to affording our future leaders an understanding of the development process and

best practice principles,” Red23’s general manager of research and business development Andrew Perkins said. “This year, Red23 are particularly proud as the Industry Learning Day, for the first time, formed part of the students’ official assessment criteria. “Red23 are extremely grateful for the support from Burbank, Intrapac, Carlisle Homes and the City of Greater Dandenong,” Mr Perkins said. The medium density Metro is the type of urban in-fill development that is rapidly emerging as a new housing form in metropolitan Melbourne while Somerfield is a more traditional residential subdivision that incorporates the latest trends in medium density housing.
