More people are renovating, according to the latest data from Master Builders.
A large crowd turned out for the Friday 13 November auction of the commercial site.
$1.2m for office project AN unfinished commercial block has sold at auction for $1.2 million after a fierce bidding war erupted. Marketed by Paul Butler and David Brinkley of Ray White Commercial Noosa and Sunshine Coast North, the 733 square metre block on Mary Street Noosaville offers 314 square metres of office space and was sold on an “as is, where is” basis on Friday 13 November. “Across the state, renovation activity is patchy, and while SEQ is doing well, there are plenty of builders who are looking for work especially in the regions,” Mr Bidwell said. Mr Bidwell said even the larger domestic builders were chasing alterations and additions because that was where the work lay. “The move towards renovations has been helped along by record low interest rates,” he said.
“Overall renovations have been trending up, with an increase of more than 5000 renovations since last financial year.” However, the average cost of projects has remained fairly stable, with the average dollar value hovering around the $30,000-plus mark since 2009. The most in-demand trades are carpenters, tilers, bricklayers and concreters.

GAINING STRONG MOMENTUM IN EXCELLENT SALES & CONTRACTS
Mortgage Choice CEO John Flavell said $33.37 billion worth of home loans were written over the month of September, which was down 1.6 per cent on the previous month. “The drop could largely be attributed to a significant fall in value of investment loans written throughout September,” he said. “As per the ABS data, just over $12 billion in investment loans were written - down 8.5 per cent on the previous month.”
According to the September housing finance data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 55,985 home loans were approved over the course of the month – up two per cent on the previous month.

Speaking about the sudden drop-off in the total value of investment lending, Mr Flavell said he “wasn’t surprised”.
Mr Flavell said the latest data would suggest the market was at the beginning of a downwards trend in investment lending.
“In December last year, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority told Australia’s lenders to limit their investment lending growth to 10 per cent per year,” he said.
“Over the coming months, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the total value of investment lending activity continue to drop as the changes being made by Australia’s lenders continue to be felt by Australian borrowers and potential investors,” he said.
