We all know that we need to protect our homes and having a working smoke alarm is one of those important items that can potentially save your life and the lives of your family,” he said. “According to the latest industry statistics, a massive 83 per cent of Australians are underinsured for both home and contents. That means that if a street of 30 homes were lost in a bushfire or flood event, only five would have the right amount of insurance, and be able to rebuild without any additional financial burden. One of the main reasons that people are under-insured is because it is the responsibility of the policy holder to choose the sum insured for both building and contents. It is important that the policy holder is aware of replacement costs of buildings, along with changes in building regulations,” Senior Group manager Mike Fleming said.
