■ THEY’RE NOT STATISTICS … THEY’RE ALL ...
Real people THE TAC’s powerful Towards Zero campaign unashamedly focuses on family. It was launched using a Narre Warren man’s notion that 70 would be an acceptable road toll figure, until 70 members of his own family walked into his field of vision. Bunyip’s Lia Spencer would agree. At only 12, she had to endure the heartbreak of losing her twin sisters in a crash that could have been prevented. A keen writer, Lia put pen to paper to chronicle the horrific events of that day and the hurt in the days, months and years that followed. She agreed to write about her experiences for the first time in the hope that it would help prevent others having to be exposed to that same pain. Read Lia’s powerful story – and that of Narre Warren man Fransisco Cerros – in the Gazette’s Towards Zero coverage from pages 11-15.
