PARK HARKS BACK TO HICKS HICKS Reserve, the new neighbourhood park at Timbertop Estate, Officer, opened last Friday, with Cardinia Shire Mayor Brett Owen and the Hicks family performing the official ribbon cutting. After months of careful planning, the eagerly awaited park commenced construction in early 2016. It was named after the former owners of the land, the Hicks family, who were early pioneers in the Officer area. They used the land for dairy farming, apple orchards and beef cattle. In 2003 Parklea purchased the land from the Hicks family, with Timbertop Estate launching in 2012. Timbertop is now home to around 700 people with over 250 homes occupied. Members of the Hicks family were guests of honour at the opening with local MPs and Cardinia Shire councillors also in attendance. Special guests enjoyed food and coffee from the Timber Mill Cafe. Parklea Founder, Andrew Facey and Mayor Owen gave speeches, commenting on how the park honours the historic land and the positive impact it will have in bringing the community together. Mayor Owen and the Hicks family even had a turn on the giant slide. The two-hectare reserve is located in the heart of Timbertop, on the corner of Timbertop Boulevard and Goldsborough Drive. There’s something for everyone including beautiful walking tracks with native planting, a lookout area, playground and giant slide for the kids, picnic area, and a large kickabout area (under construction).
