SOUTHERN BUYERS ARE KEEN ON US AUCTION expert and owner of The Auction Group Gordon Macdonald shares his insights into the busy world of fast-paced auctions throughout the Sunshine Coast. This week, Gordon has seen the gavel secure sales over $1 million right down to $165,000 for acreage in Yandina. Last weekend, we saw the best of polar ends of the market with five properties selling in excess of $1 million and one property selling for $165,000. Yes that’s right $165,000 for a vacant 1.3 hectare site. A number of our properties saw spirited bidding selling well over reserve and there was a clear presence from our southern purchasers. In fact, on one of the properties, five out seven registered bidders were from Perth, Melbourne or Sydney. Interesting, to say the least. Firstly, all of these interstate buyers had no hesitation in making the first bid and continuing to bid up the price strongly. They were obviously very comfortable, both with the auction process and the value of the properties they were bidding on. Secondly, because agents gathered specific buyers together so effectively and in doing so, generated an excellent sales outcome for their sellers. With so many out-of-town buyers hitting south-east Queensland right now, every agent has the perfect opportunity to connect with these customers and every home owner has the same. ●

$1.8B BOOST FOR HOUSING SECTOR THE Queensland housing construction industry is about to receive a $1.8 billion boost after the State Government announced plans to build 5000 extra homes. The funding boost is expected to create thousands of building and construction jobs while providing more Queenslanders with a “safe, secure and affordable” place to call home. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new 10-year Queensland Housing Strategy would see Queensland take the lead in delivering social and affordable housing in Australia. “Housing is fundamentally about people and our $1.8 billion investment puts people first,” she said. “Secure housing enables young people to finish their education. It provides the stability that keeps families together and it gives people the secure base they need to get and keep a job.

Through the new 10-year Queensland Housing Strategy the government will build 4522 new social homes and 1034 affordable homes, support 450 full-time construction jobs a year, invest $30 million to reform the housing system, plus a range of other measures. Treasurer Curtis Pitt said that on top of the significant investment, the Queensland Housing Strategy heralded a new way of doing business urging small to large-scale businesses to get involved. “Whether you are a small home builder or one of the state’s largest developers there is something in this construction package for you,” he said. The state-wide expression of interest for the first projects is now available on the Queensland Housing Strategy website. Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the Queensland Housing Strategy

construction program was focused on partnerships and creating local jobs. “This strategy is a big win for local builders and tradies in the residential sector across the state,” Mr de Brenni said. “Because we have refused to privatise housing we are now able to target job opportunities to locally based builders. That means jobs for block layers in Townsville, sparkies in Rockhampton, carpenters in Toowoomba, and subbies and tradies up and down the coast. Mr de Brenni said that the landmark construction process would be complemented by a comprehensive suite of reforms to improve housing outcomes.
