Walk for Sunshine By Kath Gannaway Liane and Tony Drummond’s return to the Yarra Valley over Christmas is part of a lifechanging tragedy, and a life-affirming 10,000 kilometre walk for change. Liane’s only son David took his own life a year ago. It was the catalyst for their ‘Walk for Sunshine’ aimed at raising awareness around suicide which she said was the leading cause of death in males aged 16 to 45, and the second in males 46 to 54. The couple had lived in Emerald and Yarra Junction and worked respectively in community health and community education in the Yarra Valley before moving to Chillingham on the New South Wales/Queensland border a few years ago. David, whose nickname was ‘Sunshine’ was just 28 and Liane said he had struggled with mental health issues and a mental health system which failed him. “I thought this is not okay, I don’t want another Sunshine to have to struggle with the system as it is when they are so vulnerable and so unwell,” Liane said. Working in general health care she had assumed that there would be similar access to care available, but found the gap is huge. So far they have walked 2000 kilometres, taking it in turns to walk and drive each day, updating the shocking and growing suicide statistics on a chalkboard on the side of their Walk for Sunshine van. Their conversations along the way are raising awareness of the incidence of suicide, particularly male suicide which accounts for 75 per cent of those who take their own lives, but it is also about gathering the stories of others to take to Canberra. “Our second aim is to lobby the government around what we see as the disparity between physical health care needs and mental health care needs,” Liane said. “Currently mental health accounts for 14 per cent of the burden of care, but it only gets seven per cent of the funding. “We’ve heard so many tragic stories of people being discharged, over and over again
Liane and Tony Drummond, pictured with Charlie and George, have a chilling message to deliver to Canberra. 176544 and unless there is a movement advocating for change, I can’t see it changing.” The Drummonds are encouraging people to share their stories not only on the road as they pass through their communities, but on their Walk for Sunshine facebook page. They plan to arrive in Canberra in Mental Health Week in October and, hopefully, meet with the Prime Minister and others who have the power to effect change.
“It’s not just my story Mr Prime Minister, it’s a collective story, and it’s not okay, is the message we want to deliver,” Liane said. Each story however is tragic, each story is devastating - and it’s not just the numbers that make it a national tragedy. “I don’t want anyone else like my David to go through what he went through,” she says. “He should have got better care, and, I don’t want any other mother to go through what I

No bias on disability By Kath Gannaway Yarra Glen bowler Jo-Anne Boland is giving her best shot at representing Victoria in the National Multidisability Bowling Championships in Western Australia in May. Jo-Anne was diagnosed in 2006 with Parkinson's disease and says bowling has been her salvation. The diagnosis forced many changes in her life, including giving up her career as manager of Animal Aid, and activities such as horse riding and rowing. It also introduced her to bowls. "I could never have seen myself playing bowls," she said. "I thought it was a pensioners' game, but we went along to two barefoot bowls competitions at Yarra Glen and we were hooked." Jo-Anne and husband, and coach, Chris, are passionate advocates for the game they say is not only a sport that is increasingly popular with younger age-groups, but which can, and is, played for enjoyment and at pennant level by people living with a disability. Jo-Anne has been bowling now for four years and has gone from bowling with a stick to bowling from a wheelchair. "It's been a steep learning curve, but I'm fortunate I can still bowl well enough to compete," she said. "Every bowl you put down is different and you're constantly striving for that perfect bowl. "I would go nuts without bowling." In fact, she does a whole lot better than "well enough". She bowls three or four days a week and plays pennant for Yarra Glen. In April, she and her team-mate from Cockatoo, Gwen Faris, will compete in the Victorian championships for a place in the representative team that will go to Freemantle in May. While Jo-Anne and others like her regularly beat the odds on the greens, a further chal-

Burns not on by Derek Schlennstedt Following a day of total fire ban on Saturday, 6 January, Yarra Ranges Police have made it clear that they will not tolerate any illegal burn-offs over the summer period. The Yarra Ranges sweltered through its first total fire ban day this summer with the mercury topping 39.9 degrees in Yarra Glen and conditions being warned by emergency services as a day of extreme fire risk. Though, it seems some residents flouted the law choosing to burn-off and as a result having to face a 'zero tolerance approach' by Yarra Ranges police. In a post on Eyewatch Yarra Ranges Police confirmed that four people had been be charged on summons after being caught burning off during prohibited times. The post stated that a 27-year-old Millgrove man had been interviewed about an illegal fire, along with a 64-year-old Narre Warren East man, a 58-year-old Sassafras man and a 26-year-old Mt Evelyn man were interviewed in relation to illegal burn-offs. "Please be aware that burning off is prohibited throughout the Shire of Yarra Ranges and police have a zero-tolerance approach to those who flout the ban," the post read. Sergeant Bridgette De Chirico at Yarra Ranges Police said that any illegal burn-offs would be taken very seriously and that people caught doing this could face severe consequences. "We are having a problem with people burning-off during The Declared Fire Danger Period," Sgt De Chirico said. "People need to be aware that if they are burning outside of the conditions allowed under the CFA act, in the fire danger period or on a day of total fire ban they may be prosecuted in relation to offences regarding that." "If that fire escapes they may be liable for very heavy offences that may be attached to that including periods of imprisonment up to 15 years for recklessly causing a bushfire." Both police and Crime Stoppers have taken a zero tolerance approach in relation to arson.

Capt Sarah moves By Kath Gannaway Healesville's Salvation Army Captain Sarah Eldridge is moving on. After six years in Healesville, the popular and innovative minister is moving to the inner city where she will take on the role of chaplain with the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Collingwood and work with the Richmond Salvation Army in their community programs and church. Capt. Sarah came to Healesville at a time of change for the Salvation Army and has left a huge legacy, particularly in terms of serving the community's young people. She set up a youth centre, worked with Healesville High School including assisting with their annual musical production and
brought young people into the Army's opportunity shop providing training and opportunities for them to interact with the broader community, among many other achievements. Asked about her biggest achievement over the past six years there was no hesitation - the youth work. "We've really seen many life transformations with young people who have connected with us through The Lounge and other youth projects, the high school and mentoring. "We've seen lives changed and while we could not have done that without the support of the high school, young people are now taking ownership and if they see a friend who is doing it tough, will say 'the Salvos can help you'," she said.
While Sarah said she is sad to be leaving, she is also excited at the challenge the Justice Centre which caters for disadvantaged people in Yarra offers. "It's a different style of court that focuses on the reasons behind why people are committing crime," she explained. "The magistrate has access to a chaplain, domestic violence, mental health and drug and alcohol organisations and I'm excited to be part of that." Salvos youth worker Kelly Taylor will continue the Army's youth work providing mentoring three days a week and with The LoungeYouth Drop-In Centre operating on the second and fourth Friday each month. Kelly can be contacted on 0408 305 531 or email kelly.taylor@aus.salvationarmy.org .

Wet weather has contributed to single car collisions over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon a vehicle ran off the road along Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. The Black Holden HSV, spun off the road and hit an embankment on the opposite side causing the airbags to deploy. The driver in his 40's and the passenger were uninjured. According to Police the owner had been transferring several of his cars to a new home, and did not regularly drive his Holden HSV. Another accident along the Black Spur near Narbethong saw a driver slide off the road into barriers. Police believe it was the drivers first time driving along the black spur and that a mixture of wet conditions and inexperience contributed to the crash. The driver was uninjured and the car was towed away.

Healesville Fire Brigade has a message for residents that they want to share. "The fire season is well and truly not over," Brigade Captain Graeme Bates told the Mail as the brigade prepares for their Community Fire Information Evening on Wednesday, 17 January. Captain Bates said the CFA and their partner fire-fighting organisations such as Melbourne Water and DELWP are expecting a late season and are in constant preparation for potential February/March fires. "We just expect it to be late season. With all the rain we've had in December and at the start of January, the grass is still growing and with the weather forecast we still reckon it's going to dry out in February so we want to make sure people are as prepared as we are and keep their properties clean and have their fire plans up-to-date," he said.
and a couple of hot days and will soon dry everything out. "The bushland is lot dryer than the grassland, so if we get anything starting in the bush know it will burn." Maintaining awareness is one of the challenges brigades face when everything looks so green so Captain Bates is encouraging community members to go along to the information evening, even if they have been in previous years. "Will have a lecturer there to give a talk and answer questions, we can look at property plans and if people want us to come out and check things such as whether we can get fire trucks up their driveway, water access or other things, we can organise that on the night," he said. The Community Fire Information Evening is at Healesville Fire Station, 62 Crowley Road, Healesville at 7.30pm. For more information contact CFA District 13 Office on 8739 1300.

Captain Sarah Eldridge (centre) with Katelyn Sarjeant, Kelly Taylor, Mands Clark and Lucy Brown at her farewell. 176712
Operation Road wise came to a conclusion on January 7, 2018 with results showing the majority of drivers within the Yarra Ranges were doing the right thing. Over the holiday break Yarra Ranges Police were out in force as part of a 24-day blitz to take dangerous, impaired and irresponsible drivers off our roads. During the blitz, over 13,000 drivers were breath tested. Of those 13,000 drivers 44 were identified as being alcohol or drug impaired and another 600 driver received various offences. Yarra Ranges Highway patrol Sergeant Dave Mcilfatrick said it was still disappointing to see that many driving under the influence. "It was good to see the majority of drivers doing the right thing but disappointing to see so many impaired drivers putting others at risk on our roads," Sgt Mcilfatrick said. "Unfortunately we're seeing more and more driving while under the influence of drugs ... on December 30 a single Highway Patrol detected 4 drug impaired drivers in one shift."

What is something people don't know about you? I live by the philosophy of Anthroposophy, a philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner. My spiritual attitude to life is about giving and sharing. What has been your most memorable moment? I was out on my knees weeding one day and was overwhelmed with knowing about truth, or wisdom - the way society works, the way people are ... understanding. I used to be 'agnostic' but I just knew it was all true. What would your final meal be? A really sloppy, juicy nectarine with juice that ran down my lips, my arms, my elbows and into the earth ... it's the most orgasmic fruit on the planet. What event, past, present or future would you like to witness? The whole planet of people, smiling and loving and hugging; no war, no aggression, no killing. What is your favourite television show? The Handmaid's Tale, an SBS series from a Margaret Attwood novel. I am fascinated by the concept of dystopia. What is your favourite book? It has to be "The Tin Drum" by 'Gunter Grass What six guests, dead or alive, would you invite to a dinner party? They would need to be contemplative, enlightened souls; Gela de Brougiere - most miraculous person on the planet. Germaine Greer (we went to same school, Star of the Sea) an original thinker and interpreter of everything. Margaret Attwood for sure, amazing, amazing writer. Indigenous writer Bruce Pascoe who wrote Black Emu - an amazing bloke. Ramana Koval, I just eat up everything she writes. I love to hear her speak, she is so passionate and inspiring. Graham George, amazing man with so

THREE … to keep children occupied these school holidays
1
Cooking: Most parents know school holidays can be challenging, but why not try multi-tasking. That is, when you're preparing the evening meal, let them in on the action. You never know, it just may unlock a whole new level of creativity, as well as teaching them some great life skills.
2
Free activities: If there's one thing the Yarra Ranges does well, it's preparing a long list of fun activities over the school holidays. Check out either the Yarra Ranges Council or Cardinia Shire Council website for their list of things to do over the holidays. In Yarra Ranges, this includes activities such as entertaining performances or the 'Make and Take' sessions.
3
Park or pool: Many parents will understand how hard it is to get any school-age youngster away from the screen. But do try to encourage them to get outside and staying active. The re-opening of the Olinda Pool has been a resounding success in recent years and is a great option. There are countless walks and parks available in the beautiful Yarra Ranges.

Still need for improvement by Derek Schlennstedt Fix the roads, improve community consultation and processes surrounding building plans and permits: that's the message from 500 residents to the Yarra Ranges Council. Last year the State Government of Victoria surveyed 500 residents in a 20 minute phone conversation asking about service area, customer contact, and key areas of improvement. The results show only a marginal improvement of just 2 points on last year's satisfaction survey. Though, the total score of 60 also shows that Yarra Ranges' community consultation and engagement satisfaction was on par with other interface councils - the average score being 59 and 60 respectively. These interface councils include a group of ten municipalities which form a ring around Metropolitan Melbourne and are among the most rapidly growing communities in Victoria. Despite being within the average for the state, residents key concerns included community consultation, the quality of roads, and processes around building plans and permits. According to the survey, the topic of planning and building permits received a performance index score of 46 - the lowest score for Yarra Ranges Council services - and significantly lower than the State-wide average of 51. For planning and building permits services 26% of residents rated Council performance as 'very poor' or 'poor'. On the topic of unsealed roads Yarra Ranges Council again performed undesirably though the current score was a two point improvement on last years and was significantly higher than the Interface group
and State-wide averages of 45 and 44. Yarra Ranges Council CEO, Glenn Patterson said he was pleased to see Yarra Ranges Council was above average in many aspects and said that Council would look to address the indicated areas in need of attention. "While we're performing above the average in areas such as unsealed roads, our residents have told us that several areas still need attention," he said. "In our Planning Department, we'll be continuing to roll out ePlanning and fast track services to improve customer experiences and satisfaction in this area, and service reviews across the organisation are helping us to innovate and bring our work in line with community expectations." At the other end of the spectrum; Waste Management, Emergency and Disaster Management and Art centres and Libraries were the top three performing areas for Yarra Ranges Council all scoring above 65. Mr Patterson said the survey gave Council a good opportunity to regularly review their performance. "We provide more than 120 services to more than 150,000 residents over 2500 square kilometres and community feedback is important for us to measure how we're tracking." "These satisfaction surveys, along with our Customer Expectation and Customer Experience Surveys, help us to figure out where to make investments to improve the services we provide to residents and ratepayers." The survey also addressed what the council should pay particular attention to over the next 12 months.
By Kath Gannaway While residents are springing into action across Yarra Ranges to get their hard waste out for collection, some lucky residents will be springing into a free action adventure at the end of the collection for following the rules! In an effort to encourage residents to check what can and can't be put out, the Council is offering the opportunity to win incentive prizes including a balloon flight, a family Segway tour and a white water rafting trip for households that tick all the boxes. In 2017, Council issued 2100 Notices of NonCompliance for homes that placed inappropriate or excessive items out for the annual Hard Waste, Bundled Branches and Metals Collection. Yarra Ranges Mayor, Len Cox, said that Council officers reported a higher incidence of dumped rubbish across the municipality during the collection period, which runs from mid-January until the end of March. "Currently, there is little incentive for people to check what is okay to put for collection, which leads to frustration when some items aren't collected," Cr Cox said. "We've seen that this can lead to people dumping rubbish illegally, which costs ratepayers about $250,000 each year. All homes will go into the draw, including

Badger Creek filmmaker Michael Hardinge knows just how hard it is as a young person starting out in the Yarra Valley to get a foot in the door of filmmaking. Michael, at 22, is director and CEO of Momentum Studios Australia, now in its sixth year of operation as a film and video business. His interest in filmmaking started in his early teens. "I had a real interest in filmmaking and telling stories but as a young person growing up there were not a lot of opportunities around to break into the industry, so one thing I am really passionate about is giving young people a platform for trying film out and seeing if it's something they're interested in," he said. Momentum and Upper Yarra's MISFIT Theatre have teamed up to run a filmmaking workshop at Warburton on Friday, 19 January, for young people aged 10 to 14. "I know quite a few people in the Yarra Valley who are interested in film but can't readily access the programs and workshops that are available. "Geographically it's just that much harder to do things like this so it's really great that MISFIT and Momentum have been able to collaborate on this project for young people in the valley," he said. He will deliver the workshop with Sarah Brumhead from Misfit facilitating the event. Participants will make a short video with everyone given the opportunity to try their hand in front of the camera, or behind it. Michael said he has done some exciting things since making The Escape Plan in 2013 including working as a television/video journalist and producing Project Rockit TV, an educational series for U-tube that tackles issues

FOCUS ON … LOOK GOOD FEEL GREAT
Listen up for some news With their three branches located in Healesville, Warburton and Vermont, Natural Hearing is working on early identification of hearing loss and its remedy. Natural Hearing’s Director of Audiology Vinay Kumar has been working on preventing hearing loss for over 25 years. Recently, Mr Vinay spoke of the correlation between hearing loss and cardiovascular disease. “A growing body of research is showing a solid connection between decreased blood flow from cardiovascular disease and low-frequency hearing loss,” Mr Kumar said. “Reduced blood flow in the body can cause the restriction of blood flow in the inner ear, causing irreversible damage and low frequency hearing loss. The pattern of this hearing loss can be seen in hearing tests, thus there is a connection between cardiovascular disease and audiometric patterns.” Mr Vinay also warned of the potential impacts smoking could have on hearing. “Hearing health experts have suspected that smoking contributes to hearing loss since an initial study in 1962; however, ongoing studies confirm it,” Mr Kumar said. “Smokers are 70 per cent more likely than non-smokers to suffer hearing loss, according to an article in the June 1998 Journal of the American Medical Association. The study also found that non-smokers living with a smoker were twice as likely to develop hearing loss as those who were not exposed at all.” The team at Natural Hearing believe that prevention is better than a cure and encourage individuals to visit their local Natural Hearing centre for hearing checks. “Using the latest in advanced hearing di-

‘Yanking’ on the chainsaw for titles By Peter Douglas Two of the finest international chainsaw carvers to compete at this year’s annual Australian Chainsaw Carving Championships have an advantage over the competition. Their secret weapon? They’re staying with their new Aussie mate and reigning local champion, Rob Bast. So Mike Ayers and Jeff Samudosky needn’t look too far for advice, after flying out from the US recently to stay with Bast at his Wandin North property, before the SkyHigh Mount Dandenong event. Crowds will travel from nationwide to see the displays of carving prowess from Tuesday 16 January until Sunday 21 January. During their stay, Mike said he would also use the opportunity to see parts of the country, which includes a trip to Tasmania; while, Jeff a keen surfer - is heading down to catch some waves at Torquay. Bast said the trio had become close friends after meeting on the international carving circuit. “They wouldn’t be here if they weren’t elite at what they do ... they do some great Midwestern stuff; they do great bears and wolves. They’re up there with the best,” he said. “Chainsaw carving is such a huge sport in the US. There wouldn’t be too many fairs where there’s not a chainsaw carving competition happening. “We learn a lot from each other, which is

Peerman portrait exhibition shines bright By Kath Gannaway Coming from a fashion background designing for such names as Trent Nathan, Marianna Hardwick, Jag-Adele Palmer and Bettina Liano, it is not surprising that Andrew Peerman looked to the visual arts when he made a career change six years ago. Human form, balance, proportion, colour and texture are at the heart of what he used to do, and at the heart of the portraiture and landscapes that are now both his passion and his work. The works are done with pencil and ash on high quality rag paper creating a result that is at once honest and intriguing. Andrew’s style of drawing is hectic, with rapid, concentrated layering applied with intense crosshatching and varied line-work which produces a realistic life-like image. The gallery space allows the works to be seen from a distance highlighting the accurate depiction of the subjects, but it is also fascinating to observe the details of Andrew’s work

"Every image you take is set for that particular moment in time." For Yarra Junction photographer Graeme Edwards photography is about looking at the world in a different light. A collection of his works, makes up his 'Life Through A Lens' exhibition on show at 'The Gallery' at the Waterwheel in Warburton from 18 January to 7 February. An accomplished photographer, whose extensive travel has seen his work published in a variety of magazines and calendars, he was awarded second place in the Urban Photographer of the Year UK, and is a licentiate of the Australian Photographic Society. Graeme said his photography was inspired by his late father who was also a passionate photographer. He recalls in the 60s the family running critiques on his father's slides before he presented them to his camera club competitions. This proved to be an insightful lesson in the basic elements of photography. The arrival of the digital camera lifted Graeme's photography from an interest to a passion and has enabled him to build a vast collection of images from the rugged beauty of Australia, the ruins of Rome, the unique cultures of Central America and places beyond. "My love for the art has grown through my many travels," Graeme said. "The world is a big place and can be captured in many forms. "The Yarra Valley has a wonderful environment in which to capture images that vary from day to day." Waterwheel Gallery is at 3400 Warburton Highway, Warburton, open daily from 10am to 4pm.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a beautiful and consistently enthralling film marred by flimsy character development. The Rebel Fleet, led by General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) is in deep trouble, pursued relentlessly by the First Order Fleet and unable to escape to light-speed. Meanwhile, the gifted Rey (Daisy Ridley) approaches Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a self-exiled Jedi Master, urging him to help the Rebellion and teach her in the ways of the Force. The Last Jedi does an exceptional job of maintaining taut suspense through the entire run-time. The film immediately establishes a clear threat and sets up logical goals for the
characters to pursue against this threat. Despite frequently cutting to calmer scenarios, such as a whimsical escapade in an alien casino and Rey's sombre introspection on Luke's island, the film constantly reminds us of the dire situation the Rebellion is caught within. Unfortunately, while the characters are engaging and the performances are universally excellent, the development is very weak. Disillusionment and setting aside the past to make yourself anew are major themes of The Last Jedi, but for all its portentous build-up, the characters don't really change. Even after shocking revelations come into play and their respective sides are upended, Rey and antagonist Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) remain static; they still want to save and destroy the Rebellion (respectively), just as before. The Last Jedi is a riveting and intensely suspenseful film, but has a disappointing lack of character development. mailcommunity.com.au

STEP BACK IN TIME PRIVACY is assured and charm is in abundance in this absolutely gorgeous home. Designed and decorated with thought and care, this seven-year-old home will no doubt bring great joy to its new owners. The character home is nestled into a very private half-acre allotment, with stunning Warburton Ranges views and adjoining neighbouring farmland. All the niceties of country-style living are provided with a mini orchard, room for the chooks to roam, vegie garden and - to complete the picture just add in the obligatory rustic farm-style shed. The warmth of the home is evident walking through the front door and gazing along the traditional styled hallway, where three large bedrooms plus a study are accessed and you are drawn to the library and main living zones. If you love to laze on a window seat and read a book, then the library living area and adjoining office will be one of your favorite spots, or you may wish snuggle in front of the roaring wood fire in the lounge where the family will love to gather. The chef of the family will be thrilled with the layout of the stylish kitchen with ample bench space to prepare the feasts, cook in the 900mm oven and enjoy the space and convenience of the butler’s pantry. The living and dining overlook your yard and the distant mountains and through French doors you can enjoy indoor/outdoor living. This is a special home and there is no doubt the new owners will love every minute in this gorgeous location with bus access for the kids, Wesburn Park across the road and walking distance to the township where you can enjoy a freshly made croissant at the Patisserie.

Frustrations in tight days By Chris Anderson Frustrations continued for cricketers in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association over the weekend. In week one of the new year ... blazing hot sun and play cancelled. Week two... get a start before the rain falls and match abandoned. After an almost unblemished start to the season weather wise, Mother Nature has begun the new year with a two and zip start. With the excessive heat putting a hold on the restart, cricketers were extra keen to get back into the cut and thrust of the action. In the top grades, a crossover round of one day clashes were on the cards, and all games started in fine conditions. However, the poor weather progressively rolled in, and lingered, forcing most games to be abandoned less the half way through the contest. Even though the Finger Trophy sides faced tough tasks against their more fancied opponents, most were well in the contest, with some providing some stiff resistance. Most notably Gruyere who took on front runners Mount Evelyn. Hard-hitting captain Jared Carroll (42) had the Mounters bowlers scratching their heads, giving the Scorpions a tidy start at 2/76. Coldstream and Yarra Junction went toe-totoe with both sides eyeing a big finish to the season leading into finals. Neither side could claim advantage as Coldstream were 3/60 when stumps were drawn. Warburton-Millgrove could consider themselves the most unluckiest as they had the rug pulled from under them as they had Launching Place teetering at 9/69. Captain Dan Lever (4/25) lead another impressive bowling display from the Burras. Yarra Glen could also consider themselves unlucky as they press to consolidate their place in the top four of the Strachan Shield ladder. The Riverpigs had Wandin struggling to keep pace as opening bowler Corey Parrant (3/20) had reduced the Bulldogs to 5/54. Although not a decisive advantage, with their powerful batting line-up, Yarra Glen held all the aces. Healesville begun their new year shaking off some of their pre Christmas batting woes being well set at 3/106 at Woori Yallock. Openers Scott Hamer (38) and Brent Damrow (20) gave the Bloods a perfect start, but their wickets had the Tigers back in the contest as the weather intervened. In the final game, Hoddles Creek and Seville were engaged in an intriguing battle of will as Hoddles Creek had moved to 3/52 against some quality bowling from the Seville bowlers, particularly Mark Sandfort (2/25). With the non results, next weekend’s games become vitally important. The abandoned Round 10 games from last weekend will now be replayed on the Sunday,
Adam Waixel of Gruyere stretches long. His team gave the highly fancied Mount Evelyn a scare. 166293 making for a cricketing fiesta next weekend. With two one day fixtures for all combatants, the back to back fixtures could prove vital for all teams. For those sitting outside the top four, it could prove to be their last hurrah in a press to feature in finals action. For those inside the four, they will be seeking safety among the finals contenders, whilst improving their chances of hosting finals. There was no such issues with the weather for the Yarra Valley’s best juniors cricketers as they begun their VMCU Representative carnivals. Both the Under 12 and Under 14 Boys teams have made a positive start to the carnival and have given themselves a chance of featuring in finals action. The Under 12s have enjoyed the opportunity to test their skills against some tough opposition, and with a two and two win loss record, they are in with a chance of playing quarter finals if they can manage a win against Mornington Peninsula on Monday. Many of the boys have contributed to the team’s efforts, which has been pleasing for the team’s coaching panel. For the Under 14s, four consecutive wins have them well placed to go deep into the tournament. An even display with the ball has been well
complimented with some sparkling individual efforts with the bat which has seen several half centuries posted. A win on Monday against Inner South East will see them lock away a home quarter final on Wednesday. More importantly, they will enter the final stages with some impressive form. Hilux is now even more unbreakable Australia's best-selling vehicle, Toyota HiLux, will ramp up its strength, capability and attitude to even greater levels with the introduction of a trio of new models during the second quarter of this year. The three dramatically styled new 4x4 variants - the HiLux Rogue, Rugged and Rugged X - will extend the "unbreakable" reputation of HiLux with features that boost off-road protection, recovery and functionality. Topping the new line-up of halo HiLux models, the Rugged X is primed for adventure with its daring design incorporating a hightensile alloy bash plate and a winch-compatible hoopless steel bull bar - both of which are compatible with the vehicle's airbags and other safety systems. Rugged X goes beyond the top-of-the-range SR5 with a new black grille with a bold interlocking honeycomb design and gloss-black surround. It is also equipped with a snorkel, LED driving lights, high-strength front and rear recovery points, rock rails, a load-carrying sports bar and other heavy-duty components. HiLux Rogue, which will also sit above the SR5, offers a premium vehicle that features a bold, aggressive image and wider appearance created by its hexagonal upper grille, fresh front bumper and heavily revised fog lamps. The third new model, Rugged, provides off-
roading enthusiasts with a vehicle that is ready for action. It features a functional yet aggressive front-end design, including a premium steel bull bar. Toyota Australia's vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said the new models will add a bold, aspirational attitude to the quintessential HiLux attributes of being tough, strong and unbreakable. "HiLux buyers increasingly demand additional features - in fact, they spend more on accessories than any other vehicle in our range," Mr Hanley said. "These new vehicles will enable them to make a statement with advanced toughness, added capability, practical comfort, first-class safety and the in-built strength that makes HiLux the indisputable No. 1," he said. "HiLux Rugged X is a no-compromise vehicle for those seeking adventure with a robust and capable vehicle that makes the ultimate statement: work hard, play harder. "HiLux Rogue is for people who want refinement and capability, enabling them to go for weekend adventures and do it in style. Mr Hanley said all new components will be fully integrated with the vehicle, certified to Australian Design Rules to be fully homologated and attract full warranty coverage.
