SJD Homes sales manager Rod Fitzsimmons said the upgrades needed to produce a zero emissions home would cost buyers roughly $5000. “By using the northerly aspect and making a few changes, we have been able to make this home a zero emissions home and that’s something SJD has been very passionate about,“ Mr Fitzsimmons said. “A lot of the time in the past people were more interested in the 40 millimetre stone waterfall edging or the $15,000 of Miele appliances. That is now changing. With the massive increase in the cost of living people are really starting to change their attitude. “ We are excited that we are going to be building better homes. The next stage of the project will involve assessing building costs compared to current costs and understanding consumer response. Ms D’Ambrosio said the state government was keen to increase the supply of net zero homes.

She said net zero homes were not only comfortable to live in and reduced power bills, they also gave owners a “feel good factor“ knowing they were playing a role in helping the environment. She said it was important mainstream volume builders like SJD construct zero
