CHRISTMAS IN NARRE WARREN AND FOUNTAIN GATE

Have a cozy Christmas Father and son business owners Zaman and Yaser Fazil wish all their customers a merry Christmas and happy and safe New Year. Zaman and Yaser have owned and managed Cozy Indoor Outdoor Furniture in Narre Warren for nine years. It’s a family business journey that Yaser says has been “epic“. “We love seeing happy customers who know they can come to our store and purchase furniture that will be stylish and comfortable as they entertain their friends and families,“ he said. “Customers keep referring us to their family and friends so this has been an epic journey.“ Cozy Furniture used to be The Outdoor Furniture Specialists. Zaman and Yaser have rebranded and expanded the store’s range now stocking both indoor and outdoor furniture as well as giftware and accessories. “We always have each other’s back and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses,“ said Yaser. “We encourage one another to push our limits.“ An accountant, Zaman has always been self-employed. “Not many shops have a large range of outdoor furniture and we believed we could bring value to customers as they can visit one shop and have a large range to choose from,“ Zaman explained. Yaser has a sales and marketing degree and worked for Coles and a high end rug business

Marco Ciavarella is the face of fresh food in Narre Warren North.

Fresh food king in store Zaman and Yaser have a great range of furniture perfect for outdoor entertaining. 187924 before joining his father in the furniture business. “At Cozy Furniture we pride ourselves on offering top quality products, exclusive designs and exeptional customer service as well as outstanding after sales service,“ said Yaser. Zaman and Yaser say the furniture industry is challenging but that they both love a challenge. “Along this journey we have seen so many trends and learnt how the furniture can portray someone’s personality.“

Nourishing people with good, wholesome food runs in Marco Ciavarella’s blood. Marco, wife Annette and son Anthony own Marco’s IGA plus Liquor in Narre Warren North. This year the store celebrated its 10th anniversary. Prior to opening the supermarket in 2008, the family ran a general store in the same Narre Warren North shopping strip. Marco loves the grocery business. He is proud of what he has created, which is a store where fresh food is the star of the show. The Ciavarellas employ 48 staff, 80 per cent of whom live in the local area. Marco believes it is his commitment to freshness and price that allows his supermarket to compete with the likes of Woolworths and Coles. “We can definitely compete with them on specials, there is no doubt about it across all departments from fruit and vegetables to li-

quor and deli right through to meat.“ What really sets Marco's IGA apart however, is its old-fashioned service. One of Marco’s employees goes each day to the wholesale markets to collect fresh fruit and vegetables. He also employs two butchers and has five staff working on-site preparing fresh meals. He says the demand for fresh, ready-to-eat meals is one of the biggest changes of the past decade. “People aren’t cooking as much as they used to so we have taken our great deli and prepared meal area to next level.“ With Christmas nearly here, Marco says now is the time to place orders for fresh seafood and meat. Marco will take a day off on 25 December then customers can be assured he will be back at work, with the doors open on Boxing Day feeding a grateful Narre Warren North community.

The team at the Big Picture People Fountain Gate has created a range of home cinema packages that take the confusion and stress out of choosing the right system. More than 20 Home Theatre Packages are on display ranging from $4,990 fully installed. “People can come in and experience different packages and price ranges,” Mr Golod explained. “In consultation with the customer

we can design a package with the best possible components to suit their budget and room sizes.” Packages typically include home theatre projectors, screens, speakers, amplifiers, Bluray players, screens and set top boxes. The Fountain Gate store offers by far the biggest range of those products in Australia. CHRISTMAS IN NARRE WARREN AND FOUNTAIN GATE

Learn with the best VFA Learning is the leading registered training organisation in Victoria when it comes to fitness and sport, early childhood education and care, remedial massage and myotherapy. The organisation started in Geelong 20 years ago and in 2019 the Narre Warren campus is celebrating 10 years of supplying the local fitness, massage and childcare industries with sought after graduates. Business development manager Jeremy Riley said VFA’s school leaver programs were tailored to students wanting to start a rewarding career in fitness and sport, early childhood education and care or remedial massage and

myotherapy but perhaps did VCAL or an unscored VCE. “Students will undertake a pre-training review to ensure they have chosen the right course for their goals, but an ATAR is not needed. Upon graduation these students will be industry qualified and have access to our higher education partnerships with Deakin and Federation Universities,“ Mr Riley explained. “In some cases students could receive close to a year of credits into a degree. He said VFA Learning offered students a unique local learning experience, with smaller

class sizes taught by industry professionals and one of the best student wellness programs in place to give students all the tools they need to achieve their study and career goals. “Whether you are a school leaver or looking for a career change or returning to the workforce, our flexible timetables free you up to manage work and study, speak to VFA Learning about our January 2019 intake by registering your details on our website at vfalearning. vic.edu.au“ VFA Learning is at 58 Victor Crescent, Narre Warren. There’s no stopping them now! Rain, hail or shine, the City of Casey’s many school crossing supervisors are out in force each day. Seven crossing supervisors have clocked up significant service milestone for dedicating 20 years or more to doing this job: 35 years: Joy Young; 30 years: Gillian Beaumont; 25 years: Lorna Proctor and Maureen Shortt; 20 years: Anita Tyrrell, Reiner Buensch and June Mills. School crossings team leader, Dreena Lawrence Gray, thanked the supervisors for their service and commitment in helping protect children across Casey. "School crossing supervisors do a wonderful job to maintain safety around schools, and they face many challenges in their day to day role, such as working in all weather conditions and motorists that speed and park illegally," she said. "They are there every day with a smile and it is a remarkable achievement to see them celebrate many years in this role."

Pain at bowsers Petrol price cycles have frustrated motorists as they feel the squeeze on household incomes but a chief economist says the average unleaded prices were down. In the past week, the average unleaded fuel price for Melbourne was down by 4.4 cents to 125.7c a litre, according to CommSec's Craig James. "Discounting cycles may be shifting but there is still good news for motorists - at least for now," a weekly insights note from Mr James issued on 3 December stated. It added: "Cheaper prices are still possible in the next fortnight. Prices near $1.10 a litre can't be ruled out for the biggest petrol discounters,"

According to the Australian Institute of Petroleum, the national average Australian price of unleaded petrol fell by 3.8 cents to 134.1 cents a litre. However, Petrolspy.com showed Caltex South Gippsland Highway in Cranbourne had unleaded fuel at 149.9c a litre on Friday 7 December, while 7-Eleven on Evans Road in Cranbourne West was 143.9c and Woolworths Caltex on Thompsons Road at 149.9c a litre on Friday 7 December. The cheapest prices were APCO Dandenong-Hastings Road in Cranbourne at 118.9c, and United at the corner of Clarendon Street and High Street in Cranbourne at 119.9c a litre. United in Dandenong Hastings Highway in Lynbrook was 120.9c a litre.

BUY 2 GET I

Cranbourne resident Aaron Grant said he just "don't see the fairness" in the petrol hikes. "We don't have a choice but to pay the price," he said. Mr Grant, 24, said he paid up to $105 on average to fill his Holden SV6 for unleaded that was 1.50c a litre. "Someone like myself; when you're paying a mortgage as well as insurance costs, and petrol costs, it does not help when the petrol goes up because you're paying $20 to $30 more a week." ACCC Commissioner Mick Keogh said while the retailers' use of price cycles to maximise profits was not illegal it "really infuriates drivers as they can see no reason for them to exist."

"There's a common perception that all retailers put their prices up or down at exactly the same time, but our research shows this isn't the case," he said. RACV vehicle engineering manager Michael Case said motorists were advised to "top up" rather than filing up when prices were high. "RACV provides fuel price information for motorists to find the cheapest prices in their area or along their journey. As a general guide, regular searches for the cheapest fuel can save motorists hundreds of dollars a year," he said. He added fuel prices were influenced by underlying changes in world oil prices. The RACV website listed Melbourne's average unleaded fuel price on Friday 7 December as 142.1c a litre.

Brick thrown at car Police are appealing for public help after a brick was thrown from a car towards another vehicle on the Monash Freeway in Narre Warren last month. Investigators have been told that three women, aged in their early 20s, were traveling in a gold Honda sedan, east on the Monash Freeway between Hallam and Narre Warren when an alleged stolen gold Toyota Echo drove up next to them about 11.20am on Monday 19 November. The Toyota Echo, with registration ECHO99, contained two unknown women. Police have been told the unknown driver threw a plastic bottle out of the car which struck the victim's car. The front passenger in the Toyota Echo then threw a brick out of the window before continuing to drive off along the freeway. The brick caused minor panel damage to the victim's car. The three occupants did not suffer any injuries. The Toyota Echo was later located abandoned in Fitzroy. Police have released the below images of two women who they believe may be able to assist with the investigation.

There have been hundreds of animal cruelty cases reported across Casey, shocking new figures reveal. The latest data released by RSPCA Victoria for 2017-18 showed Casey ranked second of Victoria's 79 local council areas for animal cruelty, behind Greater Geelong. Of the 462 offences reported, there were 229 reports of animals with insufficient food, water or shelter; 147 concerns about hygiene, grooming and housing conditions; 113 reports of underweight animals; 92 issues involving sick or injured animals not receiving vet treatment; 62 concerns about animals being beaten or wounded, and 50 abandoned animals. Most of the cases involved dogs and puppies (295), cats and kittens (74), and 50 welfare concerns for horses. RSPCA Victoria chief executive Dr Liz Walker said localised data was crucial to understanding the trends in cruelty reporting and offending across the state - information that is pivotal to targeting RSPCA Victoria prevention and education initiatives in the areas that need them the most. "Over the last two years that we've released these reports, we've seen that many communities are shocked to learn of the levels of cruelty reporting in their area and eager to see those numbers go down, just as we are," Dr Walker said. "It breaks our hearts to see our inspectors and vets attend to so many animals that are severely malnourished and ill, who clearly haven't been shown even the most basic level of care." Dr Walker added RSPCA Victoria welcomed the opportunities it had to work with local councils and get to the heart of local animal welfare issues. "These statistics reflect that there is still a lot of important work that needs to be done to educate Victorians and improve animal welfare in our communities." Casey safer communities manager Caroline Bell said there had been a "significant reduction" in reports since 2015-16 despite the growing population. "The City of Casey is committed to making the welfare of animals a high priority and will continue to actively work to reduce animal cruelty matters in our municipality," she said. "As outlined in our Domestic Animal Management Plan, Council works closely with RSPCA inspectors to support their investigations, and also publicly supported their recent advocacy campaign for the four key animal welfare priorities in the lead up to the State Election." Ms Bell Casey also held bi-annual de-sexing clinics with the Lost Dogs Home where they offered discounted cat des-exing and free microchipping to residents. "Through pet friendly expo's and events, our Local Laws Officers ensure pet owners understand their requirements for keeping their animals registered, microchipped, desexed and securely confined," she said. "Animals are an important, enriching part of our community and we urge all residents to ensure they know and act on their responsibilities as a pet owner."

Growth will deliver goods By Brendan Rees Demographer Bernard Salt speaks at the Business Breakfast at Cranbourne Turf Club. 188054 Picture: GARY SISSONS

Guests enjoy some time networking. 188054 cess to the sixth largest job centre on the Australian continent - that is adding 12,000 jobs every five years. "What else could you possibly want? What I want is Melbourne's third airport ... at some point before it gets to 10 million people in 2066; there will be a requirement for a third airport," he said. "The greatest job centre growth in the state of Western Australia in the last five years; it's not the Kimberley's, it's not the Pilbara, it's not the Perth CBD, it's Perth's airport and precinct." Mr Salt's unique skill is to take the latest data and the transfer this into a highly entertaining, informative and relevant presentation on what the future environment will be for both businesses and individuals. "Tapware is now the new silverware ... You have the show kitchen and then you have the real kitchen behind in the butler's pantry. "Bunnings, Harvey Norman - they are the

businesses to have been in over the last decade as Australians transformed themselves." In terms of the changing culture of food, he says, when the Greek-Italians arrived here in the 1950s "we regarded their food as wog food, by the 1980s actually your food is better than our food." Mr Salt sees the future not just through numbers and trends, but by looking to the past. But the real trick, he says, is creating a narrative. "In order to share in the prosperity of modern Australia you need either a university degree or technical training. These are knowledge workers," he explained. "Which cities on the continent would offer most knowledge worker jobs? That would be Sydney and Melbourne. That is why Melbourne is the third largest growing city of its type, on the plant today. "We offer affordable housing and offer knowledge worker jobs. The greatest threat to 12404917-RA47-18

Australia's leading demographer told a crowded business breakfast "Our culture is continually changing and in business you need to read those changes". Bernard Salt, a former partner at KPMG, and a well-known writer, media personality and business advisor, was the guest speaker at the Casey Cardinia Business Breakfast at the Cranbourne Turf Club on Wednesday 28 November. He routinely appears as a commentator on a variety of business/current affair TV shows in Australia. In business, Mr Salt's specialties lie in tracking and understanding Australian demographics and the rest of the world. Mr Salt spoke about the evolution of consumer cultures, how the most recent generation will fit into today's business world and how companies can get the most out of their customer base and employees. "Over the last 10 years while you have been in business, conducting your life in this region, this region has added a 144,000 people; a city the size of Geelong in 10 years," he said. "Here is a place to be in business," he added. With the "bucket load of kids" to come, he says people "need to be in child minding, you need to be in kindergarten provision, you need to be in obstetrics, you need a big hospital I would've have thought - it's not rocket science." According to the latest census data, Mr Salt says Dandenong, which was "once the great manufacturing heartland of the Australian continent" offered 66,000 jobs - up 12,000 from 2011 to 2016. Logistics and warehousing made up the bulk of jobs, he said. "Dandenong is reinventing itself" and "adaptable to the new reality." Australia I think is a break-down of social cohesion - the idea that we are evolving into a place of winners and losers. "That's not the Australia I want. I want an Australia where everyone believes they have a chance at prosperity. Which places on the Australia continent actually deliver that dream? Casey Cardinia, and a couple of other equivalents around the country," he said. According to data, Mr Salt says Australia is the 14th largest economy on earth: "We have the means to buy what we want. You can see that in the four bedroom; two bedroom house in place like Cranbourne and Cardinia," he said. He predicts in 10 years' time Australia will have jumped two places in the economy rankings, where "we are bigger than Russia" "This is a good place to be for another generation in fact," he added.

RAY’S SAY

On 3 December, a story was shared on the Berwick Star News Facebook page about Casey Council identifying a minor miscalculation of council rates for 2018/19. Here is how some readers reacted online: Tanya Narelle: Lol Cardinia did the same thing I think, not much to individuals but a bit to the councils. Lindsey Davis: It will cost you more to fix the error, why bother? Lynette White: Wow 22 cents. Cassidy Grace: 22 cents per property? Just make next years 22 cents cheaper across the board and save the money fixing it now. Michele Tobin: Lisa Summers, Christine Mich and Daniel Summers - better start planning what to spend your 22 cents on. Marianne Macumber: Just keep my 22 cents. It will cost more in wages and paperwork and or electricity to do it. Tracie Battye: Graeme Battye you should be able to retire soon, we should be getting a refund from the council. Sue Baldizoni: How much is it going to cost to 'rectify' rates by 22 cents to each rate payer ? Seems ludicrous to me... Leong Ng: Just paid my rates lately and yes... It was adjusted by a few miserable cents. Lol. berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

Robinson Road made safer By Jessica Anstice Robinson Road in Harkaway has been successful for funding from the 2018/19 Federal Government Infrastructure Black Spot Program. A guard rail will be built along Robinson

Road, south of Halleur Road and the road shoulders will be sealed. A black spot is typically defined as a location having at least three casualty collisions over the preceding five year period. In August 2017, City of Casey council offi-

cers submitted three sites to VicRoads for consideration for the Black Spot Program. The proposed projects included Robinson Road, south of Halleur Road in Harkaway, Warneet Road, south of Baxter-Tooradin Road in Warneet and James Cook Drive, at the inter-

section with Sydney Parkinson Avenue in Endeavour Hills. Project delivery has now commenced for the Robinson Road project and it is expected that it will be delivered on time and within budget this financial year.

Students showcase construction skills Approximately 30 Narre Warren South P-12 College students worked consecutively on building a teardrop caravan before selling it for $8500. Across classes such as Product Design and Building and Construction the students undertook various jobs that consisted of: Designing Modification Evaluation Manufacturing Construction Electronics Installations Construction folio and user manual

With some students working on the camper during lunchtimes and after school hours, this project was an engaging experience. "The profit or money is not what we focus on, more importantly the simulation the students are exposed to, the skills and knowledge they have gained and the experiences that can contribute to their future careers through this process," college VCAL leader Sharon Phillips said. The previous model sold for $8000 and the proceeds went to a new electronic wheelchair for Year 12 student Ace. This was made possible through the VCAL Pay it forward program that has been actively raising funds for disadvantage causes since the early 2000's.

Healthy year for helpers By Jessica Anstice St John of God Hospital Auxiliary finished a successful year with their annual luncheon on Wednesday, 28 November. The luncheon was held at Akoonah Park Centre with more than 120 people in attendance. Auxiliary group president Trish Nicholson welcomed guests and thanked everyone for the support of the hospital. She also acknowledged the donations of vouchers and gifts as prizes for the raffles. Five hospital carers attended including director of mission Rhonda O'Connor. Special guest, director of maternity and

clinical redevelopment manager Allison Merrigan gave a talk on the update of the hospital, starting since the hospital opened 705 babies have been born including 21 babies in two days. "There are over 100 volunteers who meet and greet patients, assisting them to find their way around the hospital," Ms Merrigan said. A lovely thoughtful deed has been set up to assist patients in Palliative Care called Dream a Little Dream, a project where the patient can indulge in a little pampering such as reflexology, a manicure, make up or a massage. Around $1200 was raised at the luncheon. Anyone looking to join the auxiliary can contact Anne Crockett on 9707 3425.

The season to be jolly By Jessica Anstice

Urgent call for hamper help By Jessica Anstice Casey North Community Information and Support Service have been assisting the local community in the City of Casey with Christmas Hampers for 21 years. Every year this need grows and this year is no different with over 300 hampers needed for families and couples that come to them for help. The organisation relies on the support of the community to provide donations of Christmas food and fare to fill this enormous demand. "This year we have had an increase in the demand for our Emergency Relief program, families are doing it tough and finding it hard to make ends meet," Casey North Community Information and Support Service executive officer Susan Magee said. "It is really difficult when back to school costs, Christmas and

school holidays all fall at the same time. "Something has got to give." Many families are already living on a shoe string budget and find it hard to extend their expenses so that they can enjoy such special treats. Children don't get to do the 'cool' stuff in the holidays and often miss out on presents altogether. The organisation has been encouraging those that can afford to, to buy a little extra in the shop over the next couple of weeks to donate to the appeal. All donations can be dropped off at the Casey North Community Information and Support Service Victor Crescent, Narre Warren site and if you don't have time to shop but want to donate, you can do so by visiting their website www.caseynorthciss.com.au and making a cash donation.

Narre Warren North carols By Jessica Anstice The Narre Warren North Uniting Church Christmas Carols on Saturday was a night to behold, with around 1000 people in attendance. The whole night was organised by dedicated volunteers. The carols have been running for 28 years and have been well supported by three group's long term including the Rotary Club of Narre Warren, Narre Warren North CFA and the Cranbourne Lions Concert Band. The Cranbourne Chorale, the Cranbourne Lions Concert band and individual local artists all performed beautifully on the night. "I'd like to thank and congratulate all of the volunteers who put together the event, and for all of the work they do to make our community such as great please to live," City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon said. "Christmas is a wonderful time of year. It is a time for families, friends and community to come together in celebration of the peace and harmony which we enjoy each day in Casey. "It's a time for giving, and a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ." Narre Warren North Uniting Church minis-

ter Rev. Bruce Crowle said the singing and the band were "awesome" and one of the highlights was Monique with her operatic rendition of They Prayer. "The way various community groups come together to put the carols on is a huge highlight," Mr Crowle said. "There is a huge amount of background work done by magnificent volunteers. "It is also a chance to highlight the birth of Jesus Christ, God's gift for the world and our hope for peace."

Golden lesson for teachers By Brendan Rees When Ray and Raylene Heathcote met at Burwood Teachers College as students, they knew they were in for the long haul. Today, the Berwick couple have spent 50 years together as husband and wife after marrying at St Bede's Church in Balwyn North in 1968. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Friday 7 December with family and close friends. Ray is an avid cartoonist, having published his first cartoon in the Berwick News about Michael Tuck, a seven-time premiershipwinning VFL player for Hawthorn Football Club in 1990. Since then, he has been cartooning for the newspaper editions of the Cranbourne,

Berwick, and Pakenham-Officer Star News in 'Ray's Say'. "Dad says drawing cartoons was initially a way of helping children learn to read," his daughter Tyrell Heathcote said. "After he retired this continued in the form of cartooning workshops he was invited to run at many of the schools in the area." The couple, who have four children; Tyrell, Gina, Kellie and Ben, have had long and impressive careers in the education department. Raylene was a principal at Don Bosco Primary School in Narre Warren while Ray has been a principal and acting principal at a number of schools in the area, with his longest stint with Hallam Valley Primary School in the 90s. Ray then became a district liaison principal

while Raylene shifted to an English and literature curriculum consulting role for the Catholic Education Office. Tyrell, who contacted Star News to surprise her parents by publishing this story, recalled there was no family holiday or even a trip to the supermarket "without bumping into a past student for a hello and a chat, making this a welcome way to share their anniversary news with their many past students and Ray's Say fans." Ray is the current Berwick RSL's welfare officer and past president from 2012-2015. He was also president of the Victorian Principals Federation in the 90s. Raylene was a volunteer for St Michael's after school First Communion classes.

Ray and Raylene Heathcote celebrate 50 years of marriage.

All they want for Christmas is a home By Brendan Rees Living with two sets of clothing while looking after rescued cats for the past month, has not been easy for Daniela Maslen. The 2nd Chance Cat Rescue founder and her husband are hoping they can turn their luck around by Christmas after being left homeless in November. The couple were ready to move into their new property in Cranbourne until the sale of their Hampton Park home had fallen through. "Not knowing where you will be any day is a bit heartbreaking," Ms Maslen said. "Our cats are not happy to be locked away in enclosures for four weeks." According to Ms Maslen, the buyers were "in the process of getting a loan together." The couple have now been told settlement will be on Wednesday 12 December however "nothing is confirmed in writing." Meanwhile, they have been living in accommodation in Harkaway with their personal belongings stored in semi-trailers. "Our cars are packed to the max with all the belongings which did not fit into the semi-trailer," Ms Maslen said. "It's quite strange when you are left with only a spare set of clothing and you have to make do with what you have. "We never thought it would be this long. We thought it maybe three or four days. "Cats can adjust quite well but I would feel awful if I would be locked away in a small room for four weeks," she added. Ms Maslen said she has been running her not-for-profit organisation with "great difficulties." "How do you run a business which needs access to a PC, internet and phone when nothing is available? "I now have to use the Library PC's and internet to do all my e-mails, and keeping the rescue afloat," she said. Christmas is the busiest time of year for 2nd Chance Cat Rescue with more than 100 cats and kittens in care, Ms Maslen said. "This time we only have about 40 which means a lot of kittens may still be homeless. "I would like to say a big thanks to all rescue groups who have come aboard and networked with 2nd Chance Cat Rescue to take in cats we were not able to accommodate." Calendars are a major fundraiser for 2nd Chance Cat Rescue during this time of year which can be purchased online at https://2ndchancecatrescue.bigcartel.com or the Pound Road Veterinary Clinic in Hampton Park.

FOCUS ON … CHRISTMAS IN BERWICK

Healthy way Want to make a Christmas treat that's delicious decadent and healthy? It sounds like an impossible combination but these paleo choc and honey bars are tasty, nutritious and not filled with sugar promises Chaille from Berwick Bulk Foods. The bars are also so easy to make that even the kids can whip them up in next to no time. Berwick Bulk Foods, is a one-stop shop for wholefoods, organic goods and healthy snacks located at Blackburne Square. Paleo choc and honey bars 400g Byron Bay Paleo Muesli 200g raw honey 10 medjool dates, pitted Pinch of Himalayan salt 120g Loving Earth 85% Dark Chocolate

· · · · ·

For a colourful Christmas

In a food processor put the paleo muesli, dates, half the honey, and salt. Pulse for a few seconds at a time, letting the mixture combine. After around five pulses, add the rest of the honey and continue to pulse for a further 10 seconds. Line a tray with bio-degradable baking paper or coconut spray, and press the mixture into the tray. It should be around 2cm thick. Then slowly melt your Loving Earth Dark Chocolate over gently boiling water, stirring until it has nearly all melted. Take off the heat and continue to stir until all the chocolate has melted. Then get creative and flick the melted chocolate all over the top of the slice! Pop in the fridge to set, then cut as desired.

Chaille wishes all her customers a happy and healthy Christmas.

Berwick youngster Natalie will have extra cash to spend this Christmas thanks to children's boutique Billy Lidz. Natalie won a $50 gift voucher for her excellent colouring skills. She was presented with her prize by the owner of Billy Lidz, Kellie. 188403

Who’s dreaming of a green Christmas? Christmas can be a time of waste and excess. However, there are ways to reduce your green footstep over the festive season. The City of Casey's envionmental team has put together some great tips to reduce consumption and waste this December. Here’s some ideas to help you enjoy a greener Christmas this year.

Christmas Shopping Bring your own bags – this not only applies to your groceries, but all shopping throughout the Christmas period. Shop at Op Shops or buy second hand from eBay and GumTree – this could include popular children’s gift including trampolines, swing sets and bikes. Consider local products and markets and ‘bake, make and create’ as an alternative to shopping. This could include planting some seeds in advance to give a living pot or baking

some sweet treats. Try out the four-gift rule for children – ‘something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read’. Cooking Plan your festive meals – buy only what you need and can consume. Buy food in season and local produce. Avoid food waste by covering food (eg. those cheese and dip platters) and put your left overs in the fridge as early as possible. Plan for left overs – expect you will have tasty treats for the next day and don’t buy extras. Use real crockery, cutlery and glassware instead of single use plastic ones. This will save on room in your bin and is a much nicer dining experience. Wrapping and decorating Buy experiences that don’t need wrapping and

create memories! Use reusable gift bags and boxes. Tea towels and ribbon or reusable Christmas fabric can make for colourful wrapping and are a great alternative. Sort your waste and recycling Be prepared to sort out your waste and get it in the right bin. Don’t forget bin night; bins will be collected as normal over the festive period including public holidays. Plastic moulding from around children’s toys can go in the recycling as can paper wrapping paper. Foil wrapping paper cannot be recycled in your blue bins. Compost your fruit and vegetable scraps. Scrunch and collect used foil into a cricket ball size before placing in your blue recycling bin (a little bit of food residue is ok).

With everything healthy for your Christmas baking, Berwick Bulk foods is your baking needs one stop shop for all your pantry items With a focus on zero waste

Four Figs Cafe in Beaconsfield is a magnet for coffee lovers and foodies throughout the South East. The award winning cafe is owned and operated by Norm Sutherland, his son Jarrad and daughter Samantha. Norm weaves his magic in the kitchen, while Jarrad and Sam run the front of house and manage the business. It was Jarrad’s passion for coffee that prompted Four Figs to start roasting its own coffee. Jarrad has competed in several barista competitions and wanted to bring artisan coffee to Beaconsfield. Beans are selected from the best coffee growing regions around the equator and roasted in-house. Customers can observe the process, take in the aromas and taste the balance of fragrance and texture. Four Figs craft roast coffee is available to take home in 250g or 1kg lots. For those who prefer beans of a different kind, Four Figs is also famous for its range of Bob hot chocolates. The specialty range includes Tree Hugging Bob, Intense Bob and Serious Bob, a European-style thick chocolate drink for serious chocolate connoisseurs. When it comes to food, Four Figs makes the most of Gippsland’s abundant fresh regional produce. “I love what I do. I love cooking for people and making their dining experience a memorable one using fresh local ingredients,“ Norm said. The extensive menu includes a dedicated

Jarrad and Samantha Sutherland wish all their regular customers a very merry Christmas. healthy options section offering raw, vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and organic options. A popular dish is the Monks Lunch, a combination of slow cooked lentil and vegetable curry, onions, mushrooms, pumpkin, spinach and steamed brown rice. Also popular is the Super Fu - roast pumpkin, grilled peppers, spinach, chili, herbs, brown rice and dressed roquette with a poached egg.

At the end of December the Sutherlands will take a break and reopen on 7 January. “We hope all our regular customers have a merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing them all in the new year,“ said Jarrad and Sam. Four Figs is fully licensed and open from 8am to 4pm seven days a week at1/2 Beaconsfield/Emerald Road, Beaconsfield. To book phone 9796 3773.

Power signing for Eagles By Nick Creely Big Piva has landed at Power Reserve. Piva Wright, the former Richmond rookie and Dandenong Stingray has put pen to paper at the Doveton Eagles in Southern Football League Division 2, and it's sure to keep plenty of defenders up at night throughout 2019. More recently, Wright, 25, plied his trade with Noble Park in the powerful Eastern Football League, topping the goal kicking for the Bulls with 38 majors in a terrific season in Division 1 for the power forward. Doveton Eagles president Shane McGrath said that the club was thrilled to welcome in someone with a quality character, and expects the high profile recruit to settle in well. "We're thrilled, he's a local guy who works at the local primary school, so it's been a really community focus for us - he ticks a lot of boxes, that's for sure," he said. Despite Noble Park's desperation to hold on to the power forward, McGrath said that Wright was keen to play with some mates. "It all happened really quickly - he's got some friends around the club, so that always helps when you get to play with mates," he said. The Eagles have managed to lure big names such as Nick Battle, Ryan Hendy, Darren Sheen and Russell Robertson to the club, and McGrath said it points to the culture and brand of footy that's been established at the club. The club is desperate to work its way

up to Division 1, and won't take a backwards step. But, after losing Sheen to Kooweerup after a brief stint at the club, the search was on for another power forward with the capability to kick big bags of goals. "We've worked really hard to be attractive to players wanting to come in, and that's (signing Wright) justification, i guess," he said. "As a club, we've got high ambitions - we want to improve our standards, and Piva brings it in that regard, so we're thrilled." The Eagles - who were runners-up in Div 2 this season - have also announced Scott Irvine, a wingman who has played with Kilsyth and Seville, highly rated tall forward Jye Siegersma, who also comes across from Kilsyth, as well as dynamic half-back Andrew Ray from Narre Warren, and will be gearing up for yet another assault at a premiership. "We've added some other quality players, and we're all about bringing in quality people too," he said. "Andy Ray has Southern experience and dominated Div 1 a few years ago, and Jye and Scott are great footballers who have put work and personal life before footy the last few years, and they are now more settle personally, so are looking to change their focus to footy a bit more." The Eagles are also keen to start an Under 19s side for 2019. If anyone is interested, contact Shane McGrath on 0466 459 360.

Gippsland Carnival launches in style Last Thursday’s launch of the third TRFM Gippsland Carnival, Australia’s biggest regional racing series, was a top-class night of entertainment with sporting royalty in attendance at Logan Park in Warragul. Former England cricket captain Sir Ian Botham captivated the crowd with stories of his cricketing career and the people he met along the way. He also spoke of his admirable charity work through Beefy’s Charity Foundation, in which he hosts fundraising events to support cancer research and treatment for youth with serious health conditions. In addition to Sir Ian Botham, former AFL footballer and greyhound racing ambassador, Brent Harvey, spoke of the secrets behind his longevity in AFL and how he has fallen in love with greyhound racing since coming on board with GRV. 38 STAR NEWS

Other highlights included RSN’s James Van de Maat discussing his love of greyhound racing and the art of a race call, stand-up comedian Marty Fields providing laughs throughout the evening, and a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the event. “It was a great night at Warragul last night and a wonderful feeling to have so many passionate supporters of greyhound racing in the one room,” said GRV chairman, Bernie Carolan. “To have people of the calibre of Sir Ian Botham and Brent Harvey supporting our sport really shows the direction we are heading and I’m looking forward to a fantastic Gippsland Carnival.” The Gippsland Carnival is the biggest regional racing series in Australia and consists of Country Cups in Sale (26 December), War-

ragul (12 January), Traralgon (26 January), and Cranbourne (9 February); and there were representatives from each of these clubs at the event to celebrate the launch of this exciting series which highlights greyhound racing in the Gippsland area. And all the action kicks off with the $75,000 GOLD FM Sale Cup on Boxing Day. The Sale Cup also promises to be a big event with star Melbourne ruckman, Max Gawn watching the races from the Trackside Party Paddock and spinning the wheel for one lucky person to get a chance to win $10,000 or a car. The following cups in Warragul, Traralgon and Cranbourne also have lucrative purses of $47,000 and will be attended by former Collingwood champion and 2011 Brownlow medallist, Dane Swan.

Experienced football administrator Darren Flanigan is back at the Dandenong Stingrays in his second stint as region talent manager at the TAC Cup club. The reigning premiers have appointed the 56-year-old former AFL ruckman back to Shepley Oval, replacing Mark Wheeler, who has joined the Sandringham Dragons. Flanigan played 130 games with Geelong from 1981 to 1991, before spending a season with St Kilda in 1992, adding a further eight games to his tally. Most recently, Flanigan had been doing some fine work as AFL Victoria's female football talent manager, where he oversaw the development and pathways of talented female footballers in the state, earning him high praise in the industry, as well as work with AFL International for the China Athlete Academy, where he served as operations manager. He has also served as a specialist coach with both Collingwood and Melbourne, where he has helped Flanigan's first stint as region manager of the Stingrays began in 2001 and ended 10 years later, replaced by Wheeler, who delivered the first ever TAC Cup premiership for the region in 2018. He will now work closely with new coach Nick Cox this pre-season in what looms as a new era for the club with the departure of premiership coach Craig Black, who has joined Collingwood as a development coach, and has already begun pre-season training with his players. The Stingrays have also announced highly regarded Rye senior coach Josh Moore as an assistant coach for 2019. Stingrays' premiership assistant Josh Bourke, a highly touted footy head and coaching prospect, has also departed, taking on the senior coaching role at Sandringham Dragons, alongside Wheeler once again. berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

Brett Forsyth will need to continue his stunning form for the Dandenong Panthers this week. 187072 The True Blues were kept to a lowly 8/58 after being sent in to bat, with Courtney Neale (3/11) absolutely starring. The Panthers wasted little time in knocking

over the runs, taking the points in just over half an hour, and with eight wickets still left in the shed. Alanah Mison (19 not out) and Kim Garth (19 not out) knocked the runs over with ease.

monster day one score in the Saturday/Sunday clash. The Swans reached an incredible 5/415 off 96 overs, with Joel Mitchell starring with his first century at the club with a brutal 135, while Chris Benedek (93) scored his second ninety for the season; Ryan Eaton (60) found more runs, while opening pair Blair Clymo (43) and Kyle Van Raay (35) got them off to a strong start. In reply, the Hawks reached 6/304 at stumps, with Brayden Lambden (2/43) the pick of the bowlers. MPCA - PROVINCIAL ROUND 7 (DAY ONE) In the battle of the bottom placed teams, Pearcedale and Flinders are engaged in a fascinating battle, with ball trumping bat on day one. The Panthers struggled to 86 off 61.3 overs after batting first, with Dwayne Field (3/57) and Matthew Burns (7/25) incredibly bowling the entire innings to completely strangle the home side. Burns’ 30.3 overs featured 18 maidens in an incredible bowling effort from the champion Shark. At stumps, the Sharks are 4/16 off 18 overs, with Kaine Smith (2/1) and Sam Frawley (2/12) doing plenty of early damage. In other games, Langwarrin (144) and Mornington (1/12) are in a close battle, Peninsula OB (6/77) should get the job done against Sorrento (89), and Baxter (4/49) is in a comfortable position against Mt Eliza (84). VICTORIAN SUB-DISTRICT - NORTH/EAST ROUND 7 (DAY ONE) In his 50s, Endeavour Hills champion Richard Saniga has still got it. The veteran produced as incredible performance against Box Hill at Syd Pargeter on Saturday, snaring 7/44 off 26 overs. Saniga tore the Hawks’ top order apart; before late partnerships saw the visitors reach 185 in 62.3 overs. The Eagles are in a spot of bother at stumps, scrapping through to 5/31 off 23 overs at stumps. And Noble Park (106) has already lost on first-innings to Plenty Valley (5/113), with the Parkers looking to now avoid outright next week. WOMEN’S PREMIER CRICKET TWENTY20 - ROUND 2 Dandenong picked up a barnstorming win at Shepley Oval against Prahran on Sunday, with the Panthers keeping their strong start to the Twenty20 season going.

VICTORIAN PREMIER CRICKET ROUND 8 (DAY ONE) The challenge is set for Dandenong after an epic century to Melbourne skipper Matthew Brown on Saturday will give the Panthers a tough chase next week. In a surprising decision, the Panthers sent the Demons into bat at the Albert Ground in the, and after a solid start to the home side, the decision to bowl seemed the right call after a double strike had the reigning premiers in a strong position. Blake Thomson (38) and Brown absorbed plenty of pressure to put together a 43 run partnership, and from there, batting just got easier for the Dees. Despite some fine bowling by James Nanopoulos (3/68), Brown began to find his flow, taking apart the visitors’ attack with a class display of batting. With Jack Harper (49), Brad Melville (21) and Sean Sturrock (21) batting around the skipper, the Dees racked up the runs - particularly late in the day - to finish on an imposing 7/326 off 96 overs at stumps on day one. Brown walked off the ground with a 157 brilliant runs next to his name, a knock that was compiled over 267 balls, and included 16 fours and three sixes. The opening partnership of Tom Donnell and Brett Forsyth will clearly be the key for the Panthers when play resumes next Saturday, with the middle order of Lincoln Edwards, Ed Newman and Cam Forsyth also needing a lift if the visitors are to pull off the tricky chase. In the seconds, meanwhile, the returning Peter Cassidy (99) fell narrowly short of a brilliant century in his return game as the Panthers racked up 9/340. Cassidy - who will almost certainly force his way back into the first XI next round after returning from an extended time in the UK combined with the talented Dane Heverin (75) after coming together at 6/143, putting on a brilliant 150 run stand that saw the home side reach an impenetrable position at stumps. Casey-South Melbourne, meanwhile, is staring down the barrel of an upset loss to Kingston Hawthorn after a tough day at the office at Walter Galt Reserve on Saturday. The Swans were sent in, and the in-form side slipped to 4/18, with skipper Luke Wells back in the sheds early after entering the game off the back of back-to-back centuries. With the Hawks up and about with the ball, Michael Wallace and Lachie Sperling (39) managed to spend some time at the crease and knock around 36-runs, but the home side managed to snare the pair and the dangerous Jordan Wyatt to leave the visitors 7/92. Showing plenty of guts and determination, teenage debutant Ashvin Adihetty (44) – normally known as a bowler – showed how it was done, working hard with a more restrained Dylan Hadfield (18) to calmly bring the first innings total to a more competitive level. Adihetty, who is on debut replacing spearhead Nathan Lambden, is a left-arm spinner with an abundance of talent, did a similar job with the bat in the seconds earlier in the season, hitting a 134-ball 65 after coming in 6/151, and is certainly a player to keep an eye on. The Swans were eventually bowled out for 171 in the 62nd over, and without Lambden taking the new pill, needed a strong start with the ball to have any chance. Impressive recruit Josh Dowling (1/14) snared dangerous opener Ramneet Dhindsa (9) early, but the home side steadied nicely to finish 2/74 at stumps, with Lachie Sperling (1/5) picking up Shorye Chopra (19) shortly before the close of play. But the Hawks will undoubtedly be favourites when play resumes on Saturday, with the Swans needing early wickets to stand a chance of picking up the points in what looms as an extremely important weekend in the context of their season. However, what does work in the Swans’ favour is the fact that the Hawks have scored the least runs in the competition, and have badly struggled to find any momentum with the bat this season, as shown by their winless record. In the seconds, however, the Swans enjoyed a more fruitful weekend of cricket, picking up a draw against the Hawks after compiling a

Ballal rips the Bears apart By Nick Creely

12401358-RA41-18

DDCA TURF 1, 2 & 3 REVIEW - ROUND 6 North Dandenong star Akshay Ballal is emerging as one of the most prized match-winners with both bat and ball this Turf 1 season. In yet another stunning performance on Saturday - once again against the inconsistent Berwickside at home- Ballal ripped apart the seasoned Bears' batting order to set up a sensational win, and left the Maroons just percentage from third spot. An aggressive cameo from Declan Fowler (45) lifted the home side to 158 after winning the toss and batting, after junior star Isaiah Jassal (4/31) continued his stunning rise in Turf 1 cricket with yet another bag of wickets. But, it was always going to be a hard ask defending against a batting order featuring the in-form duo Nathan Pilon and Jordan Cleland, as well as skipper Matthew Chasemore. A rapid start saw the visitors swiftly notch 33 for the first wicket, but that's where the home side began to fight back into the contest. Despite Chasemore's (61 not out) grit and determination to guide his side to victory, Ballal produced a stunning spell, snaring 5-14 and tearing apart the middle and top order to leave the visitors shell shocked and staring down the barrel of another tough loss. Highly rated when he signed at the Maroons for his first stint in the DDCA this season, Ballal's thirst for the big moments in matches has made his side become one of the dangerous underdogs in fifth spot. Eventually the Bears were shot out for 128 in the 34th over, with Muharjithan Thedchanamoorthy (3/28) also continuing his strong form with the ball. Elsewhere, Mordialloc kept its season alive with a complete domination of premiership fancies Springvale South at Ben Kavanagh, clawing off the bottom of the table. The Bloodhounds produced their most frightening performance since last year's grand final win, overcoming a solid start and taking complete control of the contest, and finally showcasing the form that has had them the champions of Turf 1 cricket for the past two seasons. After Bloods opening pair Nathan King (41) and Michael Vandort (57) got off to a fine start, the Bloodhounds - led superbly by Ian Daniel (3/17), Dylan Campbell (2/23) and Liam Bence (2/30) - skittled the visitors, rolling them for just 135 in the 38th over, cutting off the Bloods' dynamic middle order to continually take wickets. Incredibly, after the Bloods' opening pair, no batsmen scored double figures, including Steven Spoljaric, who made a surprise duck courtesy of the pace of Campbell, in a rare off day for the side. In reply, Ian Daniel (97 not out) showcased his abundance of class to completely blow the Bloods away, helping his side reach the total with just one wicket down. Hallam Kalora Park, meanwhile, is now inside the top four for the first time this season after a comfortable win over bottom placed HSD. A disciplined bowling display led by Chris Pereira (4/32), saw the Hawks restrict the Cobras to 9/140 after 40, with Michael Davies fighting hard with an unbeaten 47, but with little help around him, couldn't quite find enough time to launch his usual assault. Jordan Hammond (2/22) also kept things tight with the new ball, continuing his fine season. Despite taking the game until the very last over, the Hawks got to the target without much fuss, with Jordan Hammond (53) leading the way and his side took the points with four wickets left in the shed. Hammond's 69-

Hallam Kalora Park bowler Chris Pereira takes the stumps of HSD's Suraj Randiv on Saturday. 188526 run opening partnership with Leigh Booth (27) proved crucial in the end. And Buckley Ridges held off St Mary's at Carroll Reserve to surge 10 points clear at the top of the ladder. The in-form Saints sent the Bucks in, and as per usual, Daniel Watson (61) ensured the visitors would get off to a strong start with the bat, taking down the home side's new ball pair with his customary flair. But the home side fought back to take regular middle order wickets, with the scalp of Watson seeing the visitors lose a further 4/50 and slip to 5/141. The Bucks, with all of its batting depth, managed to still post a strong 7/175 off their 40 overs, with Ashan Anthony (3/45) the pick of the bowlers. In reply, the Saints once again pushed another premiership contender to the limit, with Ruwantha Kellepotha (61) and skipper Kaushalya Gajasinghe (40) almost clinching a thrilling victory, with the home side falling short on 9/166. In Turf 2, Narre South continues to dominate on an extraordinary level. The Lions have scored almost 500 more runs and have taken five more wickets than the next best side in the competition, and on Saturday, their incredible ability to pile on big scores was once again on show. Up against last year's Turf 2 premiers, Narre North, the Lions overcame a slowish start to completely blow the Rams away. Coming in at 3/27, class pair Scott Phillips and Jonty Jenner combined, and for the Rams, it spelt trouble.

The pair found a way to settle the early blows and accelerate, piling on 221-runs together in very little time to give the visitors an imposing total of 8/269 off 40 overs. Phillips (105 off 80 balls) saluted his first century of the season with yet another incredible performance, while Jenner - the gun recruit - crunched a second ton of the season, finishing with 106 off 95 balls. Despite the onslaught, new ball pair Joel Zietsman (3/29) and Nathan Wilson (3/34) bowled well for the Rams to keep them in the game. The Rams lost gun all-rounder Ryan Hendy early, and after a steady flow of wickets, the home side managed to bat the overs out to finish on 8/145. Dingley, meanwhile, entrenched itself inside the top four with a phenomenal team effort against Cranbourne at Casey Fields. For the second time this season, the Dingoes feasted on the Eagles, rolling the home side for 95 in 37 overs, after at one point restricting the visitors to 6/43. Andrew Dalby (4/21) was once again the chief destroyer, after earlier in the season snaring 7/23 and 3/35 against the Eagles. The Dingoes found the runs in just 12.4 overs, with openers Matt Hague (33 not out) and Luke Spears (58 not out off 38 balls) running down the target in brutal fashion. Narre Warren were also big winners out of the round, holding off St Brigid's/St Louis at Sweeney to surge into second spot. The Magpies were 6/57 after being sent in to bat, but managed to claw their way to 8/128 off 40 overs, with Janaka Liyanabadalge (25)

top-scoring amidst the brilliance of Liam Harris (5/21) with the ball. The visiting team were bowled out for 117 in 36 overs, with Ben Ingham (2/23) continuing his excellent season, while Liyanabadalge (2/23), Shrimantha Fernando (2/11) and Dilusha Nanayakkara (2/19) took multiple wickets. And an all-rounder masterclass to Ammar Bajwa guided Parkmore Pirates to a comfortable win against Dandenong West. Bajwa crunched 65 in the first innings to guide his side to 6/200 off 40 overs, with skipper Anurudhdha Fonseka (42) providing valuable support. Bajwa also took a star turn with the ball, snaring 4/39 as the Westers rolled over for 115 inside the 32nd over. In Turf 3, meanwhile, premiership favourites Beaconsfield have been unable to claim the win for the second consecutive round, this time to an in-form Parkfield side at Dunblane Road. Off the back of a terrific knock from Matt Goodier (77), the Bears clawed their way to 188, bowled out with just one ball remaining in the innings. The Tigers got off to a strong start, with Brendan Johnson (42) getting the visitors off to a cracker, but the wickets tumbled at an alarming rate. From 1/46, the Tigers were shot out for 104 in the 35th over, with the middle order unable to get going. In other games, Silverton (5/78) defeated Lynbrook (77), Keysborough (9/146) skittled Fountain Gate (69), while Lyndale (7/214) snared a win against Coomoora (189).

This week Narre took on the top team in Keysborough at Fountain Gate. A close game was expected and received. A Cranbourne double header A bumper weekend of bowls with Round 9 played on Saturday and Round 10 played on Sunday was a big ask for Cranbourne's bowlers, but the weather was kind and players responded well. The top side had two away games and, despite some great form by skip Sue Hudson and her team, Cranbourne came up short on both occasions. The second side had a narrow loss on Saturday but a good comeback win the next day. The third side fared better with two big wins on both days. The fourth side had a bye the first day but came out of the blocks with a huge win on Sunday with Skip Sofio Raiti continuing his great form. The ladies team played well but could not get over the line and has now slipped down the ladder after enjoying a week at the top. Division 2 skip Sue Hudson and her team of Joe Byrne, Lynne Wood, and Fritz Helle continued their recent great form with two huge wins on both days, winning by 11 shots at Carrum and 17 shots against Mulgrave Country Club the next day. However, the remaining rinks struggled and resulted in a 13-shot loss on Saturday against Carrum and a two-shot loss to Mulgrave Country Club on Sunday. Saturday: Cranbourne 70 (4 points) lost to Carrum 83. Sunday: Cranbourne 75 (2 points) lost to Mulgrave Country Club 77. Division 3 skip Chris Griffiths and his team of Vic Butera, John Stanley and Noel Hardy had a good 19-shot win on Saturday while skip Steve Hickson and his team of Stan Myers, Bill Bradbury and Roger Roscoe won by 10 shots on Sunday, which contributed to the 11-shot win against Keysborough on the day. Saturday: Cranbourne 70 (2 points) lost to Dandy Club 73. Sunday: Cranbourne 83 (16 points) defeated Keysborough 72. A great week end was enjoyed by the third side with two great wins in Division 5. Skip Harry Van Soest enjoyed his weekend with some fine bowls put down with great support on both days by a combination of players including Club Legend Ray Boskell who was also in great form on both days, plus Karen Hickson, David Brown and Barry Graham. Saturday: Cranbourne 121 (18 points) defeated Narre Warren 46. Sunday: Cranbourne 89 (16 points) defeated Edithvale 68. This is the second time in a number of weeks that Sofio has won by a huge margin and selectors must be looking at him with a great deal of interest after his recent record winning form for the club. Saturday: Bye. Sunday: Cranbourne 118 (17 points) defeated Dandy Club 44. A flat performance over the weekend was a little under par for the six-a-side team.

Sue Hudson has been in spectacular form.

Cranbourne pair Bill Bradbury and Graeme Wood.

Sofio Raiti has been on a roll on the Cranbourne greens. Saturday: Cranbourne 44 (0 points) lost to Willow Lodge 52 Sunday: Cranbourne 21 (0 points) lost to Churchill Waverley 55 The Division 1 ladies played well on the day, sticking to their game-plan but came up short on all rinks by 15 shots against a very good Edithvale side on the day. Skip Yvonne Van der Wees and her crew went down by just two shots after a good tussle. Cranbourne Ladies 42 (0 points) lost to Edithvale 57.
