If you think all the Christmas carols and lights activities are over and you've missed them, don't fret. You may have missed Santa falling from the sky at Peregian Beach or walking through the main street of Cooroy but there's still plenty of good cheer to be had around the Noosa Shire. Last Tuesday was one of my favourite Christmas events when Santa's Classy Helpers set up a shopping wonderland in The J Theatre and open the doors to about 300 families in need to bring them a happier Christmas. This weekend Noosa Chorale's Wassail Christmas Concert will provide an extravaganza of carols and glorious music. Kin Kin will host a community Christmas event on Saturday afternoon and you can continue on in the evening with Christmas in the Park at Coolum. Look out next week for carols on the Noosa River and the Christmas boat flotilla at Noosa Waters. With schools finishing up this week the holidays will be in full swing by the weekend. What happened to the year? ● - Margaret Maccoll

RESIDENTS OPPOSE DEVELOPMENT BY MARGARET MACCOLL Residents of Attunga Heights, Noosa Heads, have formed an action group to oppose a 12 unit, three house development application they say will create intolerable traffic, impact a wildlife corridor and affect their way of life. An application for a material change of use for detached houses and multiple housing at 27 Attunga Heights was first submitted to Noosa Council on 31 January 2018 by David Neate and consultant Innovative Planning Solutions. A previous application submitted in 2013 by Mr Neate for a 30-unit guesthouse on the property was refused by Council. The action group said they were not opposed to development on the privately owned land but believed the application was excessive for the location. Several residents have made submissions to Council to oppose the project. Each of the units Jeff and Sue Scougall raised concerns that heights of the proposed dwellings would exceed the street limit of 7.5m and
STRANGER CONCERNS BY MARGARET MACCOLL Noosa police are investigating two separate reports about children on their own being approached by adults in the Noosa - Sunshine Beach area in the past two months. Last Thursday a 10-year-old boy was walking home from school when a car pulled up containing a man and woman. The woman got out of the car and asked the boy to help her search for her lost dog while the man remained in the car with the engine running. The boy became frightened and ran home and his parents reported the incident to police. In early October an eight-year-old girl was waiting for her mother at The J theatre after dance class when a man got out of his car and asked the girl what she was doing. He offered her a lift home. She declined and he returned to the car. A few minutes later a woman got out of the car and offered the girl a lift home. The girl said no and became frightened and ran inside the theatre. Police said they had no evidence to suggest the incidents were linked. Investigations are continuing. ●
Attunga Heights residents stand against development application. questioned the space allocated for visitor parking and the resulting increased traffic movements in the narrow cul-de-sac. “We are aware that the garbage trucks have difficulty in negotiating the street, particularly at holiday periods when there are more than the usual number of vehicles parked on both sides of Attunga
Heights,” they said. “We expect that the proposed development will increase vehicle movement in the street and could result in higher numbers of vehicles parked on the street at all times, resulting in diminished amenity for residents and additional difficulty for garbage trucks and other larger service vehicles, for example, emergency
vehicles, energex trucks and Council service vehicles. Already airport commuter buses are reluctant to use the street to pick up or let down passengers. “In more general terms we are concerned that the amenity of all Noosa residents will be impeded by this development since it will visually alter the landscape surrounding the well used pedestrian access to Noosa Beach as a result of the erection of tall buildings and residential fences or other barriers.” More concerns were raised by residents about the impact on native wildlife and rainforest tree species in the bushland area and the closeness of the development to the adjacent creek. “The Halse Lodge Creek bushland is an integral part of a wildlife corridor, which starts in the National Park (near Viewland Drive), running through the Viridian valley, and continuing into 27 Attunga Heights valley,” the residents action group said. The public has until 20 December to make submissions to Council on the development application. ●

Filming in Tahiti.
UNDERWATER
VISION BY MARGARET MACCOLL
G
reg Huglin grew up on the southern beaches of California and has always been a surfer so it wasn't surprising his aim in life was find a way to make a living that involved the ocean. Now living in Noosa the underwater cinematographer's work has appeared in films, commercials and documentaries, raised awareness of marine life and earned
him an Academy Award. After school Greg went to the San Francisco Art Institute to study a Bachelor in Fine Arts in filmmaking and graduated with a distinction in the 1970s, then he found himself making a skateboarding film for American skateboarding and snowboarding world champion Tim Sims. Having a knack for being in the right place at the right time Greg was filming skateboarding out in the Californian desert
when a team from Perrier wandered past. "These guys walked up to me - French guys - and said 'we want to see your footage'," he said. They liked what they saw and hired him and he started filming people living the Californian lifestyle - having fun, running around the beach, surfing for Perrier commercials. "That got me more jobs," he said. Soon his filming was taking him around
the world including Australia where in 1977 he was shooting 16mm film for a Coca Cola commercial which won a Logie Award for most popular commercial. Greg moved to New Zealand in the 1980s and was working on a music video for Crosby, Stills and Nash when he met a fashion agent from New York - so off he went. Greg was shooting fashion and working on large catalogues for Lands End.

A favourite pastime for Greg is hydrofoil surfing in the Noosa River. "It was before the internet," he said. "They were putting out 14 million catalogues a month." Socially it was a wild time to live in New York. "It was in the Studio 54 days," he said. Renowned for its mix of sex, drugs and disco, Studio 54 played host to an array of celebrities from Frank Sinatra and Cher to Mick Jagger. "It was heady days," he said. "My wife was in the top 100 in the Ford agency. They'd get these invitations. They'd get all the models to hang out. I got to meet all sorts of characters." Greg amassed quite a portfolio of New York fashion models. The desired look at the time was the all-American girl like Christie Brinkley and the money was good. He was earning $2000 a day. While it sounds like a dream job Greg tired of the fashion world and his real love was the ocean, so for about six months of the year he would travel down to South Africa to film great white sharks. At the time he was using 35mm film cameras, weighing about 26kg and extended into the water on a pole and encased in an aluminium cage. When the sharks bite it it was like biting tin foil and they didn't like it, he said. Greg had built himself a comfortable lifestyle in Santa Barbara, California, with his wife and two young kids and all the trappings. But eight years ago he tossed it all in. "I got tired of the overcrowded beaches, insane traffic and high-pressure people," he said. So the family sold everything and for two years he and his wife Andrea home schooled their children while they travelled throughout South America. By the end of their journey the kids had reached high school age, a time when "they need classmates" and Greg got a job offer in Australia. It was a place he had surfing colleagues, had worked before and loved the lifestyle. In 2014 he was granted a rarely awarded Distinguished Talent Visa with sponsorship from Surfing Australia and has since been involved in major film projects including feature film "In Like Flynn" for which he was director of underwater photography.
Filming in Portugal.
Setting up.
Greg feels an obligation to give back to his newly adopted country. He has been guest lecturing at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) which has led to an advisory role in their creative industries and he launched Noosa Film Academy as an educational filmmaking workshop outreach program. "About 20-30 days a year I teach high school students about making films," he said. "Filmmaking has changed a lot. You can pick up an iphone - anyone can do it. I can talk to the students about how to compose a shot, about managing large groups. I get a real buzz out of it." Over the years working as an independent filmmaker Greg has filmed more than 200 commercials for many high profile organisations including Qantas, National Geographic, Canon, Ford, Honda, Chrysler, Roche and more recently Lipton
Tea, Volvo Penta and Illuma which were shot in Queensland. He has been involved in many films including Surfing Dolphins, Shark Park, Fantasea and In quest of the Sun which gained a silver medal at Cannes Film Festival. He also worked on the film, The Cove, which was awarded an Academy Award in 2010 for best documentary. The Cove analyses and questions a 400 year old practice of corralling and slaughtering dolphins in a bay in the small Japanese town of Taiji. Greg said he was approached by the filmmakers while he was filming in Africa. "They showed me really bloody, gory stuff," he said. "It was too graphic. I said if you want people to put pressure on the Japanese to stop this it can't be all blood and guts. I filmed all the beautiful stuff of
the dolphins in the wild. Who doesn't love dolphins. It's a good mix and we got the Academy Award nomination. Before the nomination the theatres were empty. After the nomination the theatres were full." Greg said the practice in Taiji continues but the documentary had put a spotlight on their practice and they now feel the eyes of the world are on them. He believes humans should rethink the treatment of marine mammals like dolphins and whales and he aims next year to begin a PhD at USC with plans to produce a documentary that explores the holding in captivity of dolphins and whales. A respect for the environment and wildlife is one of the reasons he calls Noosa home. "That's why you live in Noosa," he said. "I've lived in 23 different countries. This is the best in the world."

NEWS 20 YEAR FIGHT FOR THE LAND
Lorraine Kenway
Peregian Beach Community Association celebrated 20 years on the front lines of the battle "to protect the area's environment and village scale" last Sunday with about 100 supporters and Noosa Councillors who packed the Peregian Beach Community House. Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington acknowledged the PBCA's "decades of
campaigning against over-development, and to protect the fragile coastal environment". He said "such battles are never easy, and they can't be fought without considerable cost". Cr Wellington paid tribute to "the effort, the time, the gnashing of teeth, the sleepless nights and the stress that the PBCA's stalwarts have been able to endure on behalf of their community". ●
CLASSY HELPERS CHANGING LIVES BY MARGARET MACCOLL Last Christmas Barbara was going through a "really difficult time" when a surprise invitation from the Salvation Army to attend the Santa's Classy Helpers Christmas Shopping Day literally changed her life. "Back then I was suffering depression so bad I just wanted to end it all," she said. Also on her mind were her children. Thanks to the very classy Lorraine Kenway, owner of Classy Lady Noosa on Gympie Terrace and Classy Lady on Gibson, about 300 families including about 700 children in need in Noosa for the past seven years have enjoyed Christmas with plenty of food, toys and clothes. Prior to the shopping day Lorraine uses the funds raised throughout the year to buy toys, clothing, fruit and veg, groceries and each child receives pyjamas, underwear, an outfit and a toy to the value of $50 or more. The families are referred by local charity groups including Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul and invited to shop for free at a shopping wonderland set up at The J Theatre. Last year Barbara and her son were
among the families. "From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. It leaves you quite speechless," she said. "You are so looked after. The people volunteering on the day are so nice to you. I think I cried all the way through. I even saw grown men in there crying. "They give you everything you need to get you over Christmas. My 11-yearold doesn't get gifts through the year and clothes only when they're absolutely needed. He got new clothes. "I was so pleased my kids were going to be OK. Knowing that people like that are out there to help it's a huge relief off my mind." Barbara has now become a volunteer with the Salvation Army and this year despite still struggling to make ends meet will be volunteering at the shopping day. "I'm here to help this year. I can't wait to see the looks on people's faces. They'll be so grateful - I know that feeling. It's so heartwarming. My 12-year-old now volunteers at the Salvation Army. He's seen the kindness of others and he's so grateful. That's how much they've helped us." ●

Prep students at Noosaville State School once again entertained local retirees with their vocal talents at a Christmas Concert held on the school grounds on Wednesday 5 December. Teacher Stephanie Rex said the concert had been an annual event for special guests from Hibiscus Noosa Tewantin Retirement Resort for the past 15 years. This year, they were joined by Goodstart Kindergarten Noosa Bushlands children and their teachers. Originally held at the Hibiscus Noosa Tewantin Retirement Resort, Miss Rex said the size and popularity of the concert had grown over the past few years, prompting a venue change. "Hibiscus residents came in their resort bus and our school leaders welcomed them to the hall," she said.Hibiscus residents were treated to a morning tea of scones with

TUK TUK IS SUN DRIVEN
Hannah Sharp and Rebecca Watt riding the solar-powered Tuk Tuk.
It's tiny, only has three wheels and a top speed of 50km/hr but a student-built, solar powered tuk tuk has gotten Noosa's ZEN all worked up. The RMIT student designed and built transport vehicle of the future travelled from Melbourne on a promotional SolarTuk Expedition, and made it to Noosa on Monday where it was greeted with open arms by Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie and accompanied by Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN) and their cavalcade of electric bikes and the RACV Nissan Leaf electric car.
Cr Wilkie said Council was investigating the viability of a fleet of electric shuttle buses for the region and the electric and solar-powered tuk tuk was certainly an option worth further consideration. Engineer Hannah Sharp who was involved in the logistics of the project said while the vehicle travelled at a leisurely pace it was big on distance with a single charge taking it 300km. Hannah said the team were surprised at the interest the tuk tuk had sparked on its journey
The tuk tuk will be known to many locals as a noisy, polluting but popular mode of transport across Asia, but not so this one. A group of university students accompanied their innovative people carrier on its journey to the Great Barrier Reef to show just how they are working on reducing global transport emissions. The solar tuk tuk also paid a visit to Sunshine Beach State High School to meet with the Year 7 students who have been studying solar power. â—?

BIG BREAK FOR THE DENNIS SISTERS From singing at a family backyard barbecue in Tewantin, to accepting a gig as resident entertainers at an international ski resort in Japan is definitely a big step. However for our local singing duo the Dennis Sisters this is exactly what has taken place. When Marcus Schimbel company director for the Yamadasan Ski Resort in Japan first saw the Dennis Sisters singing on Facebook he was not interested. It wasn't that he didn't like their singing, it was because, in his opinion these two "16 year olds girls were too young." But on learning their correct age, Briannah 19 and Tiana 18, he did his research and was very impressed. "Our first hullo," said Briannah, "came when we were on our way to a gig at the Noosa Surf Club. This was then followed by what we thought was just a passing comment when we were asked if we were interested in (a gig ) Japan?" Following discussions by all involved they were offered the Musicians Residency at the Yamadasan Resort in Madarao, for a period of a few months. "We are very excited," said Tiana. "We have never been overseas before, never seen snow or been on skis. We are going to be sad leaving our family; however on the other hand we are looking to our first white Christmas." "Things will be totally new," added Briannah with a laugh. "We have to learn all about thermal clothing and buy the right gear; the weather is going to be freezing."
The Dennis Sisters (off to work in Japan. Filming the video for their new single, due out Feb 2019. Photo: Cape Tiene Photography In 2014 the girls joined the Australian Institute of Country Music in Gympie and within the same year they were performing live; and despite working as independent self-managed artists, have gone from one success to another. As a result of not only their performance but also their conduct, their willingness to work hard they are now under the guidance of renowned Manager Leonie Yeoman. Their years of gigs both local and away have seen them build up a large group of fans. ''We want them to know what we are doing and on our return we will definitely be back in the local circuit with new material and fresh inspiration." said the girls. We wish them every success. ●

WORKERS CAR SHARE TO CUT TRAFFIC
RATTLER IS IN DEMAND BY HOLLIE HARRIS The Mary Valley Rattler marked a major milestone this month, with a record number of train journeys scheduled as strong demand from visitors builds. The heritage railway experience is on track to run 34 services in December, a 30 per cent increase from its regular timetable of the 26 services spread across Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays since the popular attraction reopened in early October. Mary Valley Rattler Chairman Ian
McNicol said the significant jump was a result of special Christmas services, an extension of the Retro Fridays trial and the demand for group bookings. "We're thrilled with the way Queenslanders have embraced the return of the Rattler, so much so that we will continue with our trial of Retro Fridays, the short haul trip to Monkland on the Silver Bullet rail motor paired with breakfast or lunch at the Platform No.1 Cafe throughout December. We have also planned some very special trips to celebrate
Christmas," Mr McNicol said. "We expect the Christmas trains, and the Boxing Day steam service, to sell out quickly so encourage passengers to book early, particularly if they're one of the many who are wanting travelling on the Rattler as part of a group." Restroom facilities and refreshments are available at all stops. A ride on the Mary Valley Rattler is a fun, half day adventure suitable for the whole family just an hour's drive north from the Sunshine Coast airport. â—?
Hastings Street workers will be encouraged to carpool from Saturday with the help of a new GoNoosa app in an initiative of Noosa Council, the Hastings Street Association and Liftango to cut traffic congestion over the Christmas holiday period. The carpooling solution will be available exclusively to businesses along the strip from 15 December to 28 January. Employees of the businesses who utilise the carpooling app will benefit from guaranteed "carpool only" parking bays on Hastings Street and at the Noosa Heads Lions Park car park and Woods car park. Drivers will also be incentivised through rewards such as fuel vouchers. Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington said GoNoosa was one of several traffic reducing actions being trialled over summer with others including free buses, road signage and greater footpath space. For more information visit https:// www.noosa.qld.gov.au/go-noosa and www. liftango.com and download the app the Apple App Store and Google's Play Store. â—?

NEWS
PUZZLING YOUR OWN WAY TO A YOUNGER BRAIN Noosa author Neville Mills and selfprofessed word game addict has turned his interest in word puzzles into his first booklet containing 80 nine-letter word games. The former accountant and HR executive often sought out puzzles in newspapers, to pass the time on the commute to work when he lived in Sydney or when the TV got a bit boring and his interest in them hasn't paled. So in a departure from his comedy writing and children's books Neville spent six months sourcing the right selection of letters for his puzzle book using the Oxford dictionary as his guide. Neville said he'd had several sharp eyed friends and family members test it and was given the OK. The challenge is to find as many words of four letters or more and to find the nine-letter word in each using the centre
letter in each word. Neville said his research for the book revealed a correlation between improved brain activity and working out puzzles. Professor Keith Wesnes of Exeter University found direct relationships between the use of word puzzles and the speed and accuracy of performing tasks related to attention, reasoning and memory, he said. "You can have a more youthful brain if you do puzzles," Neville said. Other books by Neville Mills include The Curious letters of Mervyn Mudal, Fifty Funnies from Mervyn Mudal and children's books, Snowybright and the Eight Dwarfs and Ralph, Buster and The World's First Dogathlon. All his books are available at www. nevmills.com or by emailing the author on nevmerope@bigpond.com. ●

LETTERS John Spencer (Noosa Today, 6 December) raises a number of issues regarding events and tourism in Noosa. He asks what benefits council receives from approved events. The fee structure for events allows council to recover its costs in relation to processing applications and monitoring event activities. Council does not profit financially from events. John argues that the only beneficiary of events is the hotel, resort and hospitality sector. That is very reductionist thinking. Many thousands of Noosa residents participate in local events, from the Noosa Food and Wine Festival to the Noosa Triathlon. More importantly, money flowing into the tourism sector doesn’t just stop there. Tourism providers not only employ locals who plainly spend locally - but they also engage other local businesses, such as lawyers, accountants, cleaning companies, tradespeople, mechanics etc. Each year, the tourism sector injects some $900 million locally, the bulk of which trickles through the whole economy. Council will soon be creating a shirewide events policy. This overarching land use framework will be developed in full consultation with the community. John also asks what is meant by “sustainable tourism”. That is something the Sustainable Tourism Stakeholder Reference Group is grappling with. Fifteen local organisations representing environment, business and resident representative groups are working with Tourism Noosa and council to establish appropriate goals for local tourism. Council’s first priority is to its residents, however we are also aware that residents require a strong local economy to help achieve broad-scale well-being. Determining the right balance between resident amenity, environmental protection and optimal tourism visitation is an important matter, and this is exactly what the aforementioned stakeholder group is working towards. Tony Wellington, Noosa Mayor
EXPERIENCE JUST AS HARROWING Dear Ms Elliot, obviously you have no idea about conditions at the Bonegilla Camp of 1949, which was a military base during the war. It was some miles from the nearest town of Albury-Wodonga, the end of the civilised world of the time. No schools to be seen anywhere. We landed in Melbourne on 10 June, placed on a train and hours later dropped off at Bonegilla. Housing was in barracks with

“caneite" partitions to make separate rooms for families. Three bitter cold months with no heating in the rooms, the only heater was in the middle of the community hall, an old pot belly stove. The ablution block was a long barrack with waist high partitions between six shower heads and the sanitary block was the same which at least had individual doors but all connected along deep trench topped with a long plank with holes in it to sit on. The stench made you sick before you even sat on it. Subsequently one of the refugees blew the toilets up after repeated complaints to management. Great facilities as you put it. There were no barbed wire fences but as we could not speak English and my father with only three pounds ($6) in his wallet, how far do you think a family of four would get, so virtually we could have been on a deserted island with nowhere to go. The camps you mention are of a different class that came much later to house migrants, no such luxuries for us refugees, also in later years when the 10 pound Poms came they were housed in apartment buildings, one such was in Riverwood, Sydney, I used to work with one of those Poms, great bloke too. To relate my experience with the people on Manus is like day and night but just as harrowing as we were prisoners with no fence but nowhere to go anyway. The Liberal Government of the time had sent a clear
message that people coming in smugglers boars would not be allowed in Australia, they chose to ignore the warning and came anyway. So their situation is self-made and have no one to blame but themselves. By the way if Ms Goy feels compelled to name all suicide victims of Manus then perhaps she should also name the 100 or so Australian teenage suicide victims of cyber bulling, or perhaps they do not count in the guilt complex. F. Venturini, Noosa
DIFFERENT TIME, DIFFERENT TREATMENT I feel I must reply to Mae Elliot on “Our need to end overseas detention". Mae admits she hasn’t been to Manus Island - she possibly doesn’t even know where it is. The funny thing about her letter is her reference to “hearsay". You will note I never mentioned “Nauru" as I have never been there; I only talked about where I have been and seen. My grandfather worked on the island during the Japanese occupation in WWII and my dad worked there rebuilding the Island after the war. I also did some hours there in the '90s. As for statements about being able to present themselves for “a few days work" - it is way off the mark - you should see them play a full-on game of soccer, shirts on vs singlets.

Their physical attributes, fitness and skills proves they have the strength for a day’s work. Some of them look like they just walked out of a Noosa gym. You spent 20 minutes on “Nauru" so that makes you an expert and your “hearsay" so right and my assertions inferred incorrect. Did you actually go see the documentary “Stop the boats" or is that also “hearsay"? Why does your tone seem angry? You might be better taking a leaf out of Eveline B. Gay's letter and going with polite conversation. Don’t get me wrong I’m against overseas detention and all the trauma they must have been though - but for them to come here they must be given the opportunity to work, fetch their own water and feed themselves. I’m sure Aussies would welcome all willing workers particularly those that wish to tame our harsh, arid land with its droughts, floods and bushfires and those that F. NEWS
CHARITY BRINGS SMILES FOR MILES Each Saturday for six months of the year Glenn "Puck" Puckeridge with help from "Little" Jo Power and volunteers can be found at Noosa Heads Surf Club selling raffle tickets for the Smile for a Child charity. Last week it was a beaming Puck who was helping to distribute to the beneficiaries about $15,000 from the raffle and $10,000 from a charity golf day held at Noosa Golf Club last September and supported by five Noosa Clubs: Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club, Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club, Tewantin Noosa RSL and Noosa Golf Club. "When it all finishes it makes its worth it," Puck said. Since 2007 the group has raised $375,000 for children's charities. Each year the five Noosa Clubs and Smile for a Child patrons Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Roger Cawley convene to determine where the money will be allocated. This year's recipients were Sunshine Butterflies, Starlight Children's Foundation, SunnyKids, KIDS Foundation and the Australian Himalayan Foundation and a Noosa special case. This year's special case was 11-year-old Rohan McDonald, a member of Noosa Seahorse Nippers and Suncoast Spinners Wheelchair Basketball who received funds toward his own specialised wheelchair. "There's nothing like getting your first basketball wheelchair, it makes your dreams possible," Suncoast Spinners president and paralympian Bridie Kean said. Steve Mawby of Noosa Seahorse Nippers praised Rohan for his determination and inspiring behaviour. Steve said Rohan who is a bilateral below knee amputee, had inspired members of veterans group Mates for Mates, many of whom are also amputees. "Rohan goes hard at everything," Steve said. "He's giving it all whatever he's in." â—?

VOLUNTEERS GO CASUAL, TO SOME APPLAUSE Volunteers were applauded at a picnic brunch held by Noosa Council last week on International Volunteers Day while those with professional skills were asked to consider taking on casual volunteering. "Noosa is an incredibly giving community but we can always do more," Noosa Council Community Development manager Alison Hamblin said. "So many people assume that volunteering means a long-term commitment with multiple hours every week, and because of that it's something that less and less people are doing due to the busy pace of modern life.
"Council is a really important conduit in connecting local organisations with community members looking to help out, and we're encouraging people with professional skill sets to consider casual volunteering, where they can do an hour here and there when it best fits their schedule." Recent communications graduate Dana Saulter recently contacted Council to volunteer with some local groups in need of writing or PR assistance and was overwhelmed with the response.Dana has been volunteering with Noosa Community Gardens and Friends of Noosa Regional
Gallery, writing content for brochures and newsletters. "I'm fresh out of university having recently graduated with a degree in Communications Studies, so this type of casual volunteering helps me to develop my own skills as well as offer a wonderful way to become part of the local area and meet people," she said. To streamline connections between volunteers and local groups Council's Community Connect E-Newsletter now features a new 'Volunteers Notice Board' and takes submissions via commdev@ noosa.qld.gov.au â—?

SOCIAL SCENE
ANCIENT TREE LIVES ON THROUGH ART For three years a tree aged between 250 and 1000 years which fell across Noosa Eumundi Road in 2015 was carved up to create numerous art works. Artist Anne Harris rescued the 10m wide base of the trunk from the refuse tip and from there it took her on a journey inspiring workshops, collaborations, exhibitions and the sharing of stories of trees, people and their connection to the environment. On Friday its final community
exhibition, titled Tree Place which was curated by Anne, was launched at the Noosa Regional Gallery. The exhibition brings together 26 artists whose works include traditional woodwork, plant divination, traditional Japanese and experimental textiles, stories of connection to the iconic Bunya tree, sculptural jewelry and ceramics. The work of internationally renowned artists sits side by side with that of school students - all joined by the universal
language of trees. The exhibition runs until 27 January and there will be a series of workshops throughout January. To book a workshop visit www.noosaregionalgallery.com.au/workshops This project was made possible by Noosa and Sunshine Coast Councils and The Cooroora Institute with assistance from IN Noosa Magazine, Tourism Noosa and Eumundi and District Historical Association. ●

ON THE COVER
TAKE IN THE SWEEPING OCEAN VISTAS ON the grandest scale, this majestic hinterland home of some 550m2 takes in sweeping views across the Coral Sea. Surrounded by bushland and sitting well back from the road, the coastal vista extends from Castaways Beach right down to Mooloolaba. It really is like an estate, with a main house, separate guest cottage, a pool house and a massive, over-height eight-car garage. Enjoy the peaceful, panoramic outlooks over both the Noosa Valley Golf Course and Lake Weyba. The home is set securely behind an automatic gate, leading to a circular driveway in front of the portico. Substantial renovation works have been recently effected including extensive electrical work, the entire hardwood timber floors being comprehensively refinished, and a new kitchen in the guest accommodation. Entry to the main house leads to the upper level, where the views greet you immediately. From almost every part of the house you can see water, but on this level particularly, good design has maximised the exposure. At each end of this level there are substantial master suites - each ensuited of course.
The fifth bedroom adjoins one master, making it ideal for a study or even a nursery. Also on this level is the lovely Miele and stone topped kitchen in a galley style, with soft close cabinetry - everything topnotch. The very practical laundry is the size of a small apartment, and has an external access. Downstairs is another extensive living area, this time tiled, with a wet-bar and what could be a kitchenette, plus a wine cellar, storerooms, a cinema, a gym and two more bedrooms and bathrooms. Outside you will find the magnificent wet-edge infinity pool, spa with a gazebo over it, a proper sauna, and pool house with a bathroom, and plenty of outside living. And then there is the guest cottage free-standing with a brand new kitchen, two bedrooms and a quality bathroom. The mind is open to all the possibilities here. Adjoining is the huge, eight-vehicle garage with two high doors, allowing caravans, boats or trucks easy access. There is 5.5KW of solar on the roof, plenty of water tanks and more. Come and see for yourself on Saturday at 12 noon. The highly-motivated seller wants it sold. â—?

A CHRISTMAS CAROL TURNS INTO A REAL RADIO DRAMA Gold Coast theatre director Nathan Schulz is making waves - radio waves that is - and will be bringing them to the Noosa Museum this month to whisk audiences back to the golden age of radio drama with The Radioplay Hour. "Listening to a radioplay is a 'retro audio experience' which aims to transport audiences to an age when radio was the heart of family life," he said. "In this case, the actors perform the original radioplay scripts in front of a live audience, creating all the sound effects live." Guests will be able to tour the new exhibits at the museum before Nathan and Team perform Charles Dickens most famous ghost story "A Christmas Carol" and welcome all visitors. Our Speaker for Sunday 23th December is Chris Lancaster and the topic is "The Greatest Gift ever Given" The service is followed by morning tea. Enquiries secretary Kevin 5479 0460.
CLASSICAL MUSIC GROUP From Thursday 17 January 2019 our weekly Music Group will be held every Thursday from 9.30 to 11.30am. We listen to Classical Music on CDs or watch Classical Music DVDs. Donation of $2 for morning coffee or tea and biscuits. Phone Lyn on 5449 0537 for more details.

"When Charles Dickens presented this story to the world, almost a hundred years ago, he found an instant response in the hearts of people everywhere," Nathan said. "People saw in it their favourite fictional chronicle of what Christmas is, and what Christmas means. "From first printing, reading or watching "A Christmas Carol" has become an unbroken tradition each Christmas." The Radioplay Hour: A Christmas Carol will be performed at Noosa Museum, 29 Factory St, Pomona on Saturday 15 December at 2pm and 6pm. NOOSA TODAY 31
WHAT’S ON NEW YEAR’S EVE OKA STYLE New Year's Eve is sorted with a stellar line-up of groove goodness. The live music kicks off in the Imperial Beer Garden from 5pm with BENNY O and his acoustic magic. The Brewery (ticketed gig) will be pumping from 7.30pm (doors open 7pm) with BAND OF FREQUENCIES getting the vibe just right. One of Australia's premier jam bands and true believers in sounds beyond boundaries, Band of Frequencies draw their influences from a vast spectrum of blues, roots, rock, funk and psychedelic styles. Their signature blend comes from years of live experimentation, constantly pushing their influences into the creative fires to see what melts, what explodes and what merges. They'll then hand over the stage to the one and only OKA. Embracing the future without losing sight of the past, OKA draw upon their indigenous connection to place and country to create their signature feel-good Australian earth sound - an irresistible blend of influences spanning house, big beat, reggae-dub, roots, jazz and world music. A mash-up of dance and downtempo electro beats marinated in the mystical spirit of the Dreamtime. At the creative heart of the music is Stu Boga Fergie (aka DidgeriSTU) who connects you to earth with the deep subsonic pulse and resonance of his Yidaki (didgeridoo). He is the big man behind the electronic beats, keys and vocals

chives and 100ml consomme in a food processor, and process until smooth. Spoon into small serving dishes or 1 larger dish, then smooth the top. Step 2 Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Step 3 Place the remaining 175ml consomme in a saucepan over medium heat until just below simmering point. Meanwhile, soak the gelatine leaves in cold water for 5 minutes to soften, then squeeze out excess water. Remove consomme pan from the heat, add gelatine and stir to dissolve. Allow to cool slightly. Step 4 Uncover pate and press peppercorns onto surface, then cover with a thin layer of consomme mixture. Cover again and chill for 1 hour or until jelly is firm. Step 5 Serve the pate (it will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days) as part of a Ploughman's lunch with cheddar, chutney, watercress and crusty bread. â—?
COOK
SEASON OF CRACKLING PERFECTION Crackling is all about skin and fat. The meat underneath is a question of taste. Pork belly is the safest choice (you can ask the butcher for the boneless part for easy carving), as the meat is marbled with fat and is harder to overcook. Boneless cuts - legs and shoulders are other options - are the only choice if you want to stuff it, but it also offers the advantage of super-easy carving and buying the right size for your needs. Scoring the fat helps it bubble up to the surface while roasting to baste the skin. Make sure the pork is cold when you score as it's easier to cut through firm fat. Use a Stanley or craft knife or a very sharp kitchen knife to score horizontal or diagonal lines about 0.5cm to 1cm apart. Cut all the way through the skin and fat but not into the meat or the juices will run when roasting, steaming and softening the crackling and drying out the meat. You want the skin and fat to be as dry as possible. Pat the meat dry with paper towel and finish off with a hair dryer (but make sure it's on the cold setting!) Salt gives flavour and helps absorb any remaining moisture. 5 minutes before roasting, rub the piece of pork very generously with salt, ensuring it goes right
into the scoring. You can use a mix of regular table salt (which will penetrate the skin) and salt flakes (for a crisp crust), as well as other flavours such as fennel and cumin seeds. You can use oil to help the salt stick to the meat but if you really rub the salt in, you don't need the extra fat. Starting off the cooking process with a blast of heat is the second most importing thing after drying the meat. Preheat your oven to 250C (230C fan-forced) and roast the pork for about 20 minutes. You want
to achieve about 75% of the crackling at this stage (keep an eye out to check that it doesn't start burning). Then reduce oven to 180C (160C fan-forced) to finish cooking the meat. Don't over-focus on the crackling and forget the meat - if your meat is cooked but you're not happy with the skin, cut it away and perfect it in a hotter oven while you rest the meat. If you've missed a step along the way and the skin hasn't crackled, don't give up. Cut it away from the meat and place it on a baking tray lined with foil, then brush
with oil and sprinkle with salt. Cook under a preheated grill until the magic happens. Keep a close eye on it as it can easily burn. Save yourself the stress and get the pork stuffed, rolled and ready to go 3-4 hours in advance. Remove the pork from the fridge about 30 minutes before roasting. â—?

On the second Saturday of the One -day matches, the Tewantin-Noosa Thunder Seconds and Fourths had wins, the Firsts went down to top club Caboolture and Thirds lost to Maroochydore. FIRSTS travelled to Caboolture for the much-anticipated 50 Overs match against last year's premiers, Caboolture Snakes without prolific run scorer Ben Gear and front-line bowler Tom Freshwater. TNT won the toss and fielded first. Caboolture started well and were 1-50 after 10 overs. Their 2nd wicket fell in the 11th over but they kept pushing hard. TNT took the 3rd in the 20th at 100 and had then had them 4-158 at the 34 over drinks break. Dropped catches had robbed the TNT team of at least 4 wickets and it looked like the Snakes, at 4-186 would go on to make 300. However, the TNT boys fought back and took the last 6 wickets for 23 runs to have them all out for 209, a gettable target. Best of the bowlers were Lachie Gunner 3-26, Jake Dennien 3-54 and Jarrod Officer 2-36. Batting after lunch, the TNT innings started disastrously, losing the first 3 wickets for 23. At 21 overs it was 6-45, one of the worst First Grade starts to an innings in years. Then there was something of a fight back with the three "young guns", doing what the more experienced batsman had failed to do; stay at the crease and score runs off the bad balls. In his initial First Grade match, Adam Curry top scored with 40, teenager Sam Baker played patiently for 84 balls to score 23 and a big-hitting innings by Lachie Gunner of 34 pushed the score up to 138 when the last wicket fell. A disappointing loss to the old rivals but the dropped catches and poor batting against a top- class bowling attack, ensured the team came home with their first loss of the season. SECOND Grade were at home against the top placed Glasshouse and needing a win to establish themselves as a force this season after a bad outing last game. After losing the toss, TNT were sent into bat and lost 2 early wickets. The team was under pressure again but this week the batsmen stayed patient and slowly compiled a total which could be defended. After the allotted 40 overs they had progressed to be 7 for
134. Best scores were from Alex Bennett 32, Darcy Morgan 31 and Blake Steel 28. Bowling second, TNT knew they had to take early wickets and create pressure if they were to win. A wicket fell on the first ball but unfortunately 2 dropped catches in 2 balls released the pressure on the opposition. However, with TNT's two very experienced bowlers in Mike "Rowdy" Thomson (2-20) and Robbie Payton (3-6) had them at 5-26 off the first 16 overs. Then it was up to the other bowlers to get the job done. Eventually TNT dismissed Glasshouse for in the 32nd over for 109, but only after some ill-disciplined fielding and way-ward bowling. The other good bowling figures were from young Harrison Lea with 2-28 off 5 overs. A win puts the team back near the top of the ladder. THIRDS were playing Maroochydore Swans at Dale Officer Oval and after winning the toss fielded first. Openers Troy Evans and Wayne Moore (1-19) bowled well without a lot of luck. The Swans finished their 40 overs on 3-166. The other wicket taker was Jason Toohey with 2-34. A few dropped catches did not help the result. Batting second with rain interruptions and fading light did not make the task easy and TNT could only muster 136. Top scorers were Brendan Wright, Tom Green and Fred McKie all with 21 and Steve Sinclair 18. FOURTHS The match against USC/ Buderim was reduced to 35 overs after a rain delayed start. Batting first, TNT's Craig Moore fell for 18 with the score on 42. Brian Lee continued where he left off last week and scored a solid 38, whilst Justin Talbot also batted strongly to top score with 62. A couple more rain delays during the innings saw the game reduced further to 30 overs nearing the end of the innings which finished on 191. Buderim started strongly and it was not until the second wicket fell at 103 that the run rate slowed. Then Tony Watson took the wind out of Buderim's sails with a 3 wicket maiden in his first over. Watson the destroyer, finished with 5-15 off 4 overs, completely changing the face of the game as Buderim ran out of steam to finish on 9-168. Other wicket takers were Brendan Chaplin 1-23 and Graham Chaplin 1-32, each off 5 overs. A good win for the team. ●

LIFE OF BRINE
PHIL JARRATT
MOISES COMES HOME Moises Xavier Cortere-Al stepped into the glare of the crowded arrivals hall carrying one small bag in one hand and shading his eyes with the other. An upright man of middle age, wearing a smart business shirt and trousers, he scanned the room for his family, people he hadn't seen for 40 years, or who were not yet born when he was taken from his parents as a child. A young policeman (a nephew as it turned out) stepped forward and guided him into a family group, where he buried his head in a couple of shoulders and sobbed quietly. This was not my first encounter with the emotion-charged issue of Timor Leste's stolen children - I've written in these pages about meeting a group of them in Bali as they prepared to go home - but as I watched from the sidelines at Dili Airport last week, I began to get some inkling of what it must be like to have your world turned upside down, with mind and body involuntarily reacting to a sudden infusion of equal parts joy and pain, to come home when you no longer know what that means. Moises was one of nine very nervous "stolen children", returning to Timor for the first time since being taken from their villages during various stages of the Indonesian government's 24-year occupation. These "children" range in age from about 35 to 55, the oldest having been abducted by the Indonesian military soon after the occupation began in December 1975. Small groups have been allowed to return to Timor-Leste for reunions for several years now, the result of persistent lobbying by the Indonesia-based human rights organization Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR). Some who return subsequently apply for immigrant visas, some choose to stay with their new lives in Indonesia, but whatever the outcome, the process of reuniting with families who have believed them to be dead for 30 or 40 years is filled with extraordinary emotion. After an afternoon of trailing the stolen children from the airport to the Centro Nacional Chega! (the national centre for truth and reconciliation) for lunchboxes and formal speeches of welcome, we find ourselves climbing the mountainside at Taibessi on the outskirts of Dili to join Moises's extended family in welcoming him home. Moises, now 47, was forcibly taken from the mountains near Maubisse in 1978 when he was seven. The family had fled Dili because Moises' father was
Moises, home at last.
Let the supper begin! Columnist on right. a Fretilin activist whose life was in danger and whose small farmlet was being taken over. The father was eventually killed by the military, Moises' older sister was severely wounded in a skirmish, and Moises himself just disappeared, presumed dead by all in his family. As we climb through the storm-water canal and pick our way up the slope to the family home, a younger brother explains that before the canal, before the family was forced to hide out in the mountains, this land was all theirs, fertile and productive with a home built on the flat. Now there are dozens of small shacks scattered up a hillside held together from torrential rain and mudslides by rock retaining walls. The Cortere family home is one of them, marked by two gravestones at its entrance. When he arrives at the compound, Moises drops to the ground and weeps over the resting places of his parents. A small porch is festooned with red balloons, a table at the centre heavy with fruit, rice, chicken, small cakes and warm beer. At least 100 extended family members wait expectantly as a priest washes Moises' feet and ushers him into the tiny family chapel. We follow them into the dark room
Moises kisses the graves of his parents. and the unbearable humidity of an airless wet season afternoon. Moises drops to his knees and offers thanks to his maker, a chicken is sacrificed, a cloak is draped over the personification of the miracle, and when the sobbing is over, he is led back into the light. Culturally ignorant, we can't hope to understand what we have witnessed. What comes next is perhaps easier to comprehend, but harder to bear. We are sitting in the still of evening, waiting for Moises to compose himself and lead us into the supper. Cigarettes are lit, beers are sipped, nothing happens. Eventually the young policeman whispers a few words of English in my ear. I don't know why, but I am to lead us in to eat. At the head of the table, I am stood next to Moises and the priest guides me through my role. For 40 years there has been an upturned bowl at the family table. It is for Moises, in memory. Now he has returned, the bowl is turned right side up, and the elders of the tribes present, myself included, take turns in feeding him cake and pouring grape juice into his mouth. I'm not a religious person, but I'll never forget the deep spirituality of that moment,

LOCAL WINS ULTRAMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Sunshine Coast triathlete Richard Thompson, 33, last month claimed the title of 2018 Ultraman World Championship in Hawaii in a time of 22 hours, 9 minutes and 26 seconds. The ultra-endurance event, staged over three days, covers a total distance of 515 km and involves competitors completing a 10 km ocean swim, 421 km bike ride and an 84 kim ultramarathon run in 35 degree heat. "Hard training gives you the stamina needed, but it's also a matter of having the right support and being in the right head space," Richard said. "My world championship title also belongs to my team." Athletes who qualify for the event are required to have a support crew of at least two members who assist the competitor for the duration of the race. Richard said his crew of six -Nick Quinn, Steven Wehlow,
Nick Rinaudo, Dan Gampon, Lisa Spink and Scott Farrell ensured he had everything he needed to perform at his best. Richard also gave credit to his wife Lisa for her support. "I have been training up to 25 hours a week for the past six months - either in the pool, on the bike or on the treadmill or road, and we have two small children. You can't do that without an incredibly supportive partner by your side," he said Asked about the secret to effective training over this distance, Richard, founder and head coach of worldwide triathlon and endurance training company T:Zero Multisport said, "It is all about getting to the halfway mark on Day 3 as fresh as possible and at this point you only have a marathon to go," he said Richard championship title from a field of 40 athletes, representing 18 countries. ●

CASH FLOWS TO OUR ONFIELD CHAMPS BY MARGARET MACCOLL
NAIL BITING INNINGS FOR COOROY-EUMUNDI Regular rain showers failed to dilute the quality of cricket on show at the Sel Bonnel Oval Saturday, as 3A's hosted Burpengary in a thrilling game of quality cricket. Reduced to a 30 over match because of the rain, Burpengary won the toss and put the home side in to bat, with Cooroy taking the opportunity to post a decent total of 5 for 134. Josh Butterfield smashed his way to a quality 40, and Mark Young again showing his class with an unbeaten 43. But it was Cooroy's catching that truly won the game, with both Peter Clark and Phil Anderson taking absolute screamers, each worthy of high rankings in the 'Catch of the Year' category! The young lads of Burpengary batted well though, and as the light fell the pressure increased as the match went down to the last ball of the last over. Superbly bowled by Karl Nightingale, he held his nerve to seal a thrilling victory to Cooroy by only 3 runs! This was once again a true team effort. A thrilling match played in great spirit, with possibly the 'lively' home crowd also contributing to the win! Well done boys! Resuming on 1 for 68, day 2 of the U15's clash against Tewantin-Noosa, saw Cooroy 38 NOOSA TODAY
|
Eumundi chasing a total of 138. Fifties from both Martin Kelly and Ryan Christensen ensured the victory, and the innings was completed with 213 on the board. The 2nd innings for Tewantin started with a couple of quick wickets by Brayden Forrest, and the day ended with the home team at 2-0. It was a successful game for the Cooroy U15s, winning by 9 wickets, and continuing their unbeaten start to the season! A plucky Yandina team took to the field on Saturday without a full team and gave the Cooroy Eumundi U13s a demonstration on how to play competitive cricket. Yandina elected to bat first and some hard hitting and fast running between the wickets saw them build a strong total of 155. CooroyEumundi started the run chase with intent, as opener Jack Lynch (24no) and Joe Murray (18) combined for 39 runs from 70 balls. Late in the order, Eric Mahe also played some great strokes and ran hard between the wickets for an aggressive 15 from 11 balls. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as sluggish running between the wickets through the middle order saw Cooroy Eumundi's run rate almost flat line, resulting in a disappointing total of 107.
Thursday, 13 December, 2018
U12 White were away to the Coolum Heat on Saturday. Batting first, Cooroy struggled to get partnerships going throughout their innings and wickets fell regularly. Stubborn resistance from Josh Plant (24) and Angus Hetherington (19) were the only standouts, as Cooroy were reduced to 85 all out. Some good, tight bowling from all of the Cooroy boys wasn't enough defending such a small total, and unfortunately Coolum chased the runs down for the loss of 6 wickets. This group need a little piece of luck, and their winning ways will return! U12 Green hosted the Coolum Renegades at Eumundi State School. Some fine batting from Cooroy enabled them to post a commendable 177 off their 30 overs, with Matt Christensen hitting a well deserved 63no, Clancy Young 38 and Henry Rudkin 25. In reply, the Renegades were no match for the accurate Cooroy bowling, being bowled out for 80. Steven Galea leading the bowling charge with 3 for 9 off 4 overs. A great result for a team that continues to get better. ●

BETWEEN THE FLAGS
RON LANE
SUNSHINE BEACH IS ON THE MOVE In what can only be described as a joyous occasion some three hundred guests, including 16 Life Members, 10 Past Presidents, 90 Past Active members, VIPs, supporters and current members gathered, on Saturday afternoon, at the Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club. The occasion was to officially announce that the long awaited rebuilding of their beloved club is a definite. The date of the first major step will be February the 4TH 2019 when the loud noise of approaching bulldozers will drown out all else. We can be assured that when we consider the reason for the disruption there will definitely be no complaints. As things stand the finish date will be hopefully mid-November. It is now some two plus years, since the first meetings regarding designs for this $6 m project took place. It was with this information that Life Member and chairman of the building committee Warrick Redwood welcomed everyone and declared the celebrations open. He then introduced the first president of the modern era (the 1980s) Vic Guest to present a brief history of the three eras that covered the attempts to firmly establish a permanent club on this, at times, lonely deserted open beach. The first came in the early 20s but a lack of members and beach visitation caused it to close. Then came the late 30s when World War 2 again saw the closure of the club; as a result all club funds were donated to the war effort. Then in 1982 the club was reformed and consolidated and amongst those present was the first club captain Mick Gowland. Another guest was Wendy Weaver of Sunshine, the first female to work as a lifeguard at Sunshine Beach. Wendy went on to bigger things studying and becoming the first Sport Psychologist at the Queensland Academy of Sport and also worked with the Australian Swimming Team for 3 Olympic cycles. Amongst the honored guests was former Mayor and long serving councilor Mr. Bert Warnsley, a man who gave great support to not only Sunshine Beach but also the club
Bert Walnsley, Vic Guest, Mick Gowland, John Maddill and Brian Watson. at Noosa. Now in his nineties this mans company was our pleasure. Another in attendance was Mr. John Madill. It is the Madill family that like Mr. Warnsley has made outstanding contributions to both our local surf clubs. Behind the scenes working hard to make it yet another successful occasion was the incomparable Glenn Puckeridge. Affectionally known to his club mates Puck this mans charity work has become legendary; and rightly so. Great achievers and supporters. A club with a big future. On the competition side the Queensland Inter Branch Championships were held at Kawana Pool and Mooloolaba Beach. Following this the state junior team was announced and according to information at hand Amy Kabble of Noosa and Abbie Tolano and Freya Wilson of Sunshine were selected. Further announcements when information becomes available. ●

Try trolling hard bodies for those notorious mangrove jack, Fishing the top of the rock bars from Johns Landing to the mouth of Cootharaba has been well worth the effort, try soft plastics rigged weed less so you can cast them right up into the timber with confidence. Soft plastics have also been good from the ski run up to the mouth of Lake Cooroibah on the flathead. make sure you have a heavy enough jig head to get them on the bottom as good sized flathead and school jew have been cruising the bottom. While you are up there try dropping in a few crab pots, make sure you have your details on your float and on your pots to keep yourself legal, remember to only keep the bucks and only four crab pots per person. Heading down river; Woods Bays has been a go to area for most anglers early in the morning, surface noosatoday.com.au
poppers and walkers have bagging some nice giant trevally as well as tailor. The stretch of the river from Gympie Terrace up into the Frying Pan has been producing good numbers of whiting, live worms pealed prawn and yabbies' have been some of the favored baits. Also casting over the flats with surface lures with the walk the dog technique has been a great way to get some elbow slappers. On the beach we are seeing some nice flathead coming from the surf, fishing the gutters and deeper holes have seen quality sized dart and whiting using live beach worms. Big strip baits has been working well for jewies and tailor. Fishing around the headlands, you can pretty much expect anything at this time of the year, from jewfish, small squire, sweetlip and maybe the odd spotted mackerel or tuna. Offshore the weather has not been that favorable over the last week and conditions
seem to be that way for the foreseeable future, angler that are getting offshore are using the hit and run approach and sneaking out early morning, fishing close and making a run for home as soon as the wind picks up. Pelagics are on many anglers mind, there are reports of schools of good sized spotted mackerel from some of the closer reef along with a report of a couple of good spanish. Even though the pelagic are starting to come on the chew the bottom is also very rewarding, Trout and nice sized sweetlip, snapper cod and jewies have been on the chew in and around the bombies and pinnacles of Sunshine reef, while quality cobia seem to be on most of the closer reefs. Jew Sholes and Halls reef have been good for sweetlip smaller snapper and maori cod. On behalf of Jack Mangrove, best of luck on your fishing adventures! ●
