Property Lift out

This one’s for you Bernie By Russell Bennett The emotion of Pakenham’s WGCA Premier grade grand final win over great rival Kooweerup on Sunday was etched all over the faces of Donna Anning, Robyn Gramc, and Scott Webster. The three great Pakenham people shared a warm embrace soon after the winning runs were struck by captain-coach Rob Elston - remembering the legacy on the club of Robyn’s husband Bernie, who passed away early in the 2018/19 campaign. Captured by photographer Stewart Chambers, this was just one of the lasting images of another incredible clash between the Lions and Demons. New airport vital An international airport in the South East is the key piece of anchor infrastructure for the region, says renowned futurist Brian Haratsis. Mr Haratsis addressed the Casey Cardinia Business Breakfast on the subject at the Cardinia Cultural Centre on Wednesday 27 March. Speaking exclusively to the Gazette in the lead-up to that event, Mr Haratsis said the benefits of a third major airport in the region - a project identified as necessary in the Plan Melbourne document - would have far-reaching impacts. He said the benefits would be felt from the

area stretching from Glen Waverley to the far east of the state. “Airports have very big job multiplier,” he said. “A lot of industries locate around them.” Mr Haratsis said attracting industry - and therefore jobs - to the region had great economic and social benefits. He said it would be a great congestion buster - a much used term of late in all tiers of government. “An airport would provide employment for people who are currently driving into the city for work,” he said. “It has the potential to create the reverse commute.” The airport - which has been on the radar of

Cardinia and Casey councils for years - would not only be good for commuters and business, but bolster the tourism industry as well. “It’s a very important long term project for this area,” Mr Haratsis said. “There are a lot of benefits it.” The need for an airport in the South East becomes even more important with the likely demise of the Port of Hastings project, which would also have a driver for industry and jobs. Mr Haratsis is a best-selling author, thought leader and is regarded by corporate Australia as a leading economic and strategic advisor with major project success in the Australian property sector.
