Property Lift out

The glory of the Magpies The monkey is finally off the back. Narre Warren overcame every obstacle in its wake to clinch the club's first senior football premiership since 2013, shaking off two years of heartache against Berwick on grand final day to turn the tables and hold the cup aloft on the dais at a rain-soaked Toomuc Reserve on AFL Grand Final eve. It's the kind of premiership that won't be forgotten in a hurry down at Kalora Park. It was the kind of win that could yet ignite another Magpie dynasty. And the stories were endless. Two club legends ended their time at the Magpies with yet another premiership, a pair of loyal brothers could barely wipe the smile of their faces as they soaked it all in after the game, while the reserves snared one of its most famous flags yet. Turn to the Football liftout for all of the Magpie celebrations. The Narre Warren boys - with both the senior and reserves premiership cups - belted out the song on Toomuc Reserve on Friday. 198315 Picture: ROB CAREW

Sad end for 4Cs By Mitchell Clarke

The 4Cs Crisis Relief Centre will officially cease after more than two decades of providing emergency relief services to the Cardinia Shire. It was announced on Thursday 26 September that funding constraints, population growth and a rapidly increasing client base meant the organisation was unable to continue. A taskforce of local community agencies, including the 4Cs, has collaborated to ensure vital services are continued, with Cardinia Shire Council and the Salvation Army stepping in to transition clients and provide relief services via the Salvation Army Doorways program. In a statement, council and the Salvation Army said: “We commend the 4Cs, their com-

mittee and volunteers for their commitment and passion throughout the many years they have provided hope and support to our community. Their dedication, commitment, passion and compassion have ensured the most disadvantaged, most vulnerable members of our community have received hope and the care they need in times of crises.” Central Ward councillor Michael Schilling said the 4Cs will go down in history for their work in ensuring the community didn’t go hungry. “The 4Cs have done an amazing job in caring for some of the most vulnerable people. It can’t be understated the amazing work they have done,” he said. While Cr Schilling acknowledged there was “some anxiety” within the community, he was certain emergency relief would still be provid-

ed throughout the community. “I’m certain there will be no disruption in providing emergency relief, I am confident it’ll all play out.” One of the pioneers behind the creation of the 4Cs, Jack Mitchell, said the loss of the organisation was upsetting and would be felt throughout the community. “I think it’s a bloody disgrace, the need for emergency relief is very real and that’s been acknowledged by the shire,” he said. “There are lots of other people in the shire doing nice things but the 4Cs are the only group that provides emergency food relief. “It’s terrific the Salvation Army is there to assist but to expect them to pick up the work of 4Cs on top of what they already do is a very big ask.” Cardinia Combined Churches Caring (4Cs)

began in 1997 and was ran by volunteers with the mission of providing emergency food relief for the residents of the shire, aiding more than 12,000 families in the last financial year. Council provided extensive support to the organisation for almost a decade, administering over $500,000 in funding over the 10-year period, with an added boost of $45,000 last November. Meanwhile, one of the major annual 4C fundraisers, the Slog bike ride from Pakenham to Sale has been cancelled for 2019. It’s yet to be confirmed whether the cancellation was in relation to the closure announcement. Any new referrals for help from 7 October will go directly to the Salvation Army Doorways program, with the 4Cs formally ceasing services from 1 December.
