Willo power wins By Brendan Rees Cranbourne-born jockey Craig Williams has etched his name in the history books after clinching Australia’s greatest race. The 42 year-old finally had his breakthrough Melbourne Cup win in his 15th attempt after piloting home Australian-bred horse Vow and Declare at Flemington on Tuesday 5 November. “A credit to Vow and Declare, he just gave me a beautiful ride,” the former Cranbourne primary and secondary school student told the media after the thrilling race finish. “Danny O’Brien, the trainer, gave me no instruction, he just said trust the horse, trust you, they’ve done a great job, it’s amazing teamwork, and I can’t do it without around me. “I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity ... I will really enjoy this,” he said. It caps off a stellar year for Cranbourne’s favourite son, who rode Dr Drill to victory in the $400,000 TAB Cranbourne Cup on 13 October. Williams is a world-renowned rider and has won Group One races in Hong Kong, France, Dubai, the UK and Japan. Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Nail Bainbridge was thrilled for the champion jockey, who he described as hardworking and the “ultimate professional”. “I think everyone involved with him in Cranbourne would be just delighted for him,“ he said. “His family, they’ve had a great association with the Cranbourne racing industry for a long time - to win his first Melbourne Cup, it’s tremendous. “His brothers are still involved locally along with his dad,” he said, adding his nieces and nephews attended school in Cranbourne “so it’s a big family occasion”. Mr Bainbridge said Williams had always been a good supporter of the club and “only too happy to help out”. “He’s always out there walking the tracks, he puts in the hard yards; he deserves every success he gets,” he added. Geoff Whiffin, chairman of the Cranbourne Turf Club, said he and his wife Nolene Whiffin were close friends with the Williams family and

also used to babysit Craig as a boy. “Craig used to come away on holidays with us... he was a big fat tubby little fella and nobody thought he’d make a jockey,” he laughed. He described Williams’ Melbourne Cup win as a “fantastic dedication,” adding “What he seems to put his mind to he does.” “We’re very proud of him.“ Mrs Whiffin, who went to school with Williams’ mother Glenda, added: “He’s a great ambassador for the racing industry; he’s just a true little gentleman”. As a lad, Williams’ school nickname was ‘Willo’, and to others ‘Suey’. “It’s short for a horse my Dad trained at the time. I was small and could run fast and the

horse was small and fast, so I became Suey,” Williams told the News in 2008 after his Cranbourne Cup win on Majestical. Williams’ family has a long and successful history in racing. He started his career as an apprentice in 1993 for his father Allan, who was also a successful jockey. His mother, Glenda, is a daughter of veteran Cranbourne training identity, the late Tommy Harrison. Craig was still at school when won his first Cranbourne Cup on Main Strike for his father and he remains the youngest jockey, at 17, to win the feature event. He now has all four major racing trophies in his cabinet - adding the famous three-handled gold loving cup to his Caulfield Cups on South-

ern Speed and Dunaden, Cox Plates on Fields of Omagh and Pinker Pinker and Golden Slipper on Miss Finland. He was to have ridden Dunaden in 2011 when it won the Cup but missed through suspension. Back in 2008, after Majestical's win in the local feature race, Williams spoke of his ambition to win Australia's most famous race. "I've won the Melbourne Cup eight times, but it's all in my dreams," he laughed. "It's a race that eludes so many people. Scobie Breasley won five Caulfield Cups but never a Melbourne Cup." He vowed and declared he would one day win the race - and now has.

IN BRIEF

Stray dog left for dead after hit-run By Brendan Rees A woman has recounted the horrifying moment a stray dog was left for dead after being hit by a car in Lysterfield South. Lisa Ross was travelling along Churchhill Park Drive when she saw a dog scoot across the road about 8.30pm on Tuesday 22 October. She pulled over and saw a man sitting in a car parked near the entrance of Churchill National Park. "I put my passenger window down and I said to him 'Is that your dog?' And he was obviously of a different nationality and said 'no, no not my dog'." Ms Ross then called to the dog, which was later ascertained to be a German Shepherd, still wandering around the road but "quite happily" ran to her car. As soon as the dog came to her door she noticed an oncoming car and immediately flashed her hazard lights. "She was still sitting beside my door and the car just hit her, literally beside my car," Ms Ross said. "Instantly I was screaming." Fearing the worst, Ms Ross was surprised when she saw the dog limping near the back of the parked car before hurrying across to a golf course. "I drove down to the golf course and I turned and I couldn't find her and I was calling her,"

A stray German Shepherd has been in the care of a vet after being hit by a car in Lysterfield South. she said. Ms Ross called local wildlife rescuer, Sue Johnson as the man "didn't attempt to get out of the car" to help. "I did a couple of laps and this guy was still sitting at the park then he just drove off," she said.

Ms Ross and Ms Johnson searched the area until midnight but the dog was nowhere to be seen and both decided to go home. However, Ms Ross said she got a message from Ms Johnson - just as she was about to sleep - saying a dog had been sighted on social media. They went out searching again until about 1.30am to 2am but still couldn't find her. The pair left a message at the Churchill Park Golf Club and fortunately they received a call from the club at 7.15am saying they had spotted the Shepherd. "Sue rang me and I flew down there with a couple of my kids just before school," Ms Ross said. They found the dog and put her in the disabled toilets before taking her to the Wellington Village Vet in Rowville. The dog was transferred to the Animal Aid Vet Clinic in Coldstream and treated for broken toes and bruising. She was also confirmed as a three-year-old but her microchip details weren't registered "so she'll hopefully go for adoption," Ms Ross said. She added she wasn't able to get the registration of the car that hit the dog and the owner of the dog was still not known. "Sue and I have posted on every single lost dog's page (on social media) ... nobody is missing this dog," Ms Ross said.

House sets hearts racing

A P-plater who police say had a blood-alcohol reading of .257 per cent, was "swerving all over the road" when he was caught in Narre Warren. The 22 year old driver allegedly blew more than five times the legal limit just before 3am on Sunday 3 November. Police say the driver was travelling about 40km/h in an 80km/h zone on Narre WarrenCranbourne Road. His licence was immediately suspended and his car was impounded for a period of 30 days at the cost of $1005. A police spokesperson said he was expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving.

Rental scammer arrested Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a woman following an online market place rental scam. "The 28-year-old woman allegedly placed an advertisement for a rental property on Leopold Crescent in Hampton Park and took deposits and a month's rent in advance from several prospective renters," a Victoria Police spokesperson said. "When victims attempted to move into the property the locks had been changed and the woman was nowhere to be seen." Police believe the woman also allegedly took deposits from victims in relation to a property on Glendon Road in Junction Village which was falsely advertised for sale in July this year. The woman was interviewed by police and has been released pending further enquiries. The scam involved a substantial amount of money and investigators are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or they can file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic. com.au

Suspicious fire investigated A suspicious fire, which took hold in a shed in Narre Warren North is now being investigated by police. A total of eight CFA trucks responded to a premises at the corner of Hallam-Belgrave Road and Narre Warren North Road just before 12.40am on Friday morning. It's understood the fire was contained within minutes but police were called due to the suspicious nature of the blaze. A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman both managed to evacuate the building uninjured. The investigation into the exact cause of the blaze remains ongoing. Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, or with information is urged to contacted Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00.

Skeletons, ghosts, witches, and tombstones took over the front yard of a Narre Warren home for Halloween. The spooky house on Shinners Avenue attracted about 500 visitors as the sun went down on Thursday 31 October. Owner Chris, who did not wish to reveal his surname, said he spent a day setting up the display. "Ninety-eight per cent of it is made by my own hand besides one or two tombstones and the big scarecrow dude (with a pumpkin head)," he said. 'The skull wall took one hundred hours ... but to do all the props and everything it was a good couple of weeks making everything". Chris said he also ordered parts in the US for his skeleton man draped in a black cape. But he said none of the Halloween display would've been possible without his niece who inspired him, he explained. "When I lived in Endeavour hills ... trick or

Woman attacked at park By Jessica Anstice Police are asking the community to help find the attacker who allegedly grabbed and pushed a woman into a bush during broad daylight at a Berwick park. The 20-year-old victim was jogging through Bellbird Park on Fantail Lane when she was approached by an unknown man who asked her for money about 9.30am on Friday 1 November. The woman told the man to go away but he became aggressive, grabbed her and attempt-

ed to push her over into nearby bushes before running away. "What started out as general conversation quickly turned aggressive as he started asking questions such as if she was single and how much money she has in her bank account, etc.," the victim's sister wrote in a post on Facebook. "Once my sister tried to leave he grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her clothes, and pushed her onto the ground and spat on her. "Simultaneously he started yelling racial slurs at her and threatened to punch her."

A woman in a nearby house heard the victim crying and intervened before calling the police. The offender was perceived to be of Asian appearance with black hair and a moustache, wearing a blue T-shirt, knee length shorts and runners. Shadow Minister for youth justice, crime prevention and victim support Brad Battin says Berwick is "an amazing place to live" and encourages anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers. "It will take a community to catch people

like this attacker. Let's make sure our streets are safe, and females don't need to have a dog to go for a run to stay healthy," Mr Battin said. "There are many things that can be done to make us safer: better lighting, improved open space that has active areas to increase people using the space and more police on proactive patrols." Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Milestone: 100 years in the making By Jessica Anstice A special birthday took place at Fiddlers Green Retirement Village in Berwick on Friday 1 November. Ken Craig celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by friends, family and fellow Fiddlers Green Retirement Village residents and staff. Feeling flustered, Mr Craig says turning 100-years-old is “daunting” because there is “too much fussing about me”. Recalling his earliest memory, Mr Craig said he was five or six-years-old when he watched on as his father built a chook house in their Surrey Hills backyard. To stay young, Mr Craig wakes up at 7am each day and goes for a two kilometre walk around Berwick. For his 100th birthday, he hopes to “continue for a bit longer”.

Connecting the Cranbourne Cup with the Melbourne Cup In 1865, Toryboy was an 8-year-old grey gelding, competing in the Melbourne Cup for the third time. (In all, he raced in five Melbourne Cups). No horse before or since has won this race at an older age. On the Sunday before the ‘cup’, Patrick Miley trialled the horse over two miles at what he thought was a quiet time and recorded 3 minutes 44 seconds, a most promising effort indeed. In those days the race was held on a Thursday. History records how Toryboy won the race, backed from 100/1 to start at 25/1 from the favourite, ‘Panic’, its connections losing a bizarre protest when the jockey alleged a ‘crossing’ interference at some stage. Toryboy had won by four Lengths (ref Millers Guide) in the very same time of 3.44 as his time trial. His light-weight jockey was Eugene Cavanagh, a fourteen-year-old schoolboy who confirmed his ability by riding the runner-up in the ‘cup’ the following year. Whereas it is said that the Melbourne Cup trophy was not attractive and was sold, Colin’s family has information that it was donated to the Melbourne Hunt Club, now inscribed as the Melbourne Hunt Club Cup and was awarded to the 1873 winner, Babbler. It was subsequently sold by ‘Christies’ and in now owned by wine merchant, Wolf Blass. Also of relevance to the Toryboy story, 1867 saw the inaugural two-day meeting of the Cranbourne Turf Club in April, the main event being a two-mile handicap which Toryboy also won as a 10-year-old. This event has become the Cranbourne Cup, now staged for more than 150 years and the Turf Club has continued

SOCIALLY SPEAKING On 30 October a story was shared to the Berwick Star News Facebook page about Casey Council is assessing whether it has experienced a shortfall of uncollected fines as a result of State agency Fines Victoria's IT debacle. Here is how reader responded online: Mark Mathews: By memory Civic Compliance is ran by a Transfield? I cannot remember but I do remember seeing that the parent company who has the tender is them. One way I guess getting some of our toll money back that the government is losing. Mark Mathews: hang on.. is it really a problem... the fines have been issued, and as they don't expire, they will get collected on... they can sue all they want, one could also say that Civic Compliance is not collecting them as they are debts after all and not many people can pay in full. Peter McKill: The idiots should know exactly how much is owed from fines Victoria. How many hours of work will be wasted checking? berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

Casey fines

Evening to book in

By Brendan Rees and Cam Lacadou-Wells Casey Council is assessing whether it has experienced a shortfall of uncollected fines as a result of State agency Fines Victoria's IT debacle. "The City of Casey has a number of processes in place for recovering debt," Casey manager of safer communities Caroline Bell said. "We are still assessing the impact of the IT glitch experienced by Fines Victoria". Meanwhile Greater Dandenong has a shortfall of nearly $8.8 million in uncollected fines mainly consisting of parking infringements, as well as planning and building breaches and local law penalties for littering and animal control breaches. They date back to 30 June 2019. Fines Victoria has blamed software issues, which has led to a multi-million-dollar backlog of fine notices that haven't been sent to the would-be recipients. Other councils such as Hobsons Bay and Port Phillip are threatening legal action for the financial blackhole. The State Government itself is facing a $328 million shortfall in uncollected fines, such as court-issued penalties, from 2018-19. It had already ordered a review into Fines Victoria after a damning Victorian Ombudsman's report in March. A Department of Justice spokesperson told ABC News that reminder notices hadn't been issued to Victorians "due to some complexity of merging data from the courts into the fines system". "The obligation remains on Victorian debtors to pay their fines," the spokesperson said. "The system is working and the debts don't go away. "People have a responsibility to pay their fines and they should." The State Government did not respond to Star Journal before deadline.

By Brendan Rees Former Home and Away actress and acclaimed author Judy Nunn is making her way to Bunjil Place. She will discuss her new best-selling book, Khaki Town on Thursday 21 November at 7pm at the Bunjil Place Function Centre. The historical novel is set in Queensland during World War II, and is inspired by a true wartime story that has remained a well-kept secret for over seventy years. It's March 1942. Singapore has fallen and Darwin has been bombed. Australia is on the brink of being invaded by the Japanese Forces. "It's a pretty terrifying time," Ms Nunn explains, adding there were "huge racial problems" in Townsville between America's white and black soldiers. "Segregation was a very big part of course in America. The Civil rights Act didn't come in for well over 20 years later," she says. "Many black American soldiers arrived very early on. They were there literally as a labour force to build the airstrips that would acquire for the massive amount of aircrafts -the bombers and the fighter planes" But Nunn says the black soldiers were welcomed by the people of Townsville, who didn't care "what colour's going to save us". "They could walk into a pub and have a beer with a white bloke who didn't mind at all. "But the white Americans didn't like it. They were accustomed to the practice of segregation so they took it out on the black soldiers," she says. The Australian Government, she says, also stood by their White Australia policy at the time, saying they didn't want America sending any black soldiers to which the American president at the time Franklin D. Roosevelt said "well if you don't take our black soldiers you're not getting any soldiers" Ms Nunn says.

Author Judy Nunn will discuss her new book at Bunjil Place. "There's a whole ground of racism that formed the basis of this book". Judy Nunn's career has been long, illustrious and multifaceted. After combining her internationally successful acting career with scriptwriting for television and radio, Judy decided in the 90s to turn her hand to prose. Inspiration to share “THE SCRIBE TRIBE” BOOK LAUNCH Last week the Writers of Balla Balla launched their anthology; “The Scribe Tribe“. The book is an inspiring collection of stories and poems all written by “The Writers of Balla Balla“ and driven by Roderic Grigson who put forward the idea and gained the support of the Balla Balla Centre manager Maree Cullinan, president Andy Reid and his committee and aided by a City of Casey grant. The book comprises 40 stories/poems that will uplift, move and inspire. It is a true testament to the value of storytelling and it being a vehicle to preserve stories about cultural and family backgrounds for future generations, and a way to preserve our history. The book is dedicated to the memory of Kaye Coram who had written stories and a poem previously and that have been published in the book. The launch was celebrated by a packed room of enthusiastic family members, friends and supporters. A delicious supper was enjoyed afterwards and lots of books were purchased on the night. A very moving and awe inspiring event. To order your copy, contact: roderic@rodericgrigson.com or inquire with the Balla Balla Centre: 5990 0900. DIWALI 2019 IN CASEY Diwali, or Deepawali is the Hindu festival of lights, typically lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika (between mid-October and mid-November. A special gathering of local community leaders joined Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs the Hon Jason Wood MP at Bunjil Place to celebrate together. HASA - HOPE AUSTRALIA SOCCER ACADEMY - WESTFIELD - CITY OF CASEY PARTNERSHIP The launch of the HASA Soccer Clinic at Max Pawsey Reserve (just beside Westfield Shopping Centre) saw a great line up of International Soccer Players, Ps Larry Sebastian, Westfield’s CEO Cathy Main and Risk Manager Adrian Bower, Tour of Hope members, Community Connector Melissa McIlroy who came together to engage Casey’s youth to learn soccer skills. This is a valuable partnership that also includes the City of Casey and is designed to encourage and foster opportunities for young people to be involved in sport, and ultimately the community, further reducing the chance for them to become isolated. This event was held the week after Casey City Church held their “A Night to Shine” where 180 people from all faiths and cultural backgrounds came together to launch the 2019 Tour of Hope and to welcome the whole Tour of Hope International Soccer players, some of whom played in the World Cup; these star players include Silas Pereira, Paulo Sergio, Mineiro, Elivelton and Fillepe. PERSON OF THE WEEK - DALE BELL Dale is a “born and bread” Tooradin person. She has lived in Tooradin all her life, and her parents ,grandparents and great grandparents, have lived in the area too. Dale is a major driver of the Tooradin Bazaar and has been for all of her life. The Bazaar began 1903, and Dale’s family have been part of it ever since then; passed on from generation to generation and sees each year arts and crafts lovingly and creatively prepared and along with fresh fruit and vegies, locally baked good and 2nd hand items all sold at an affordable cost. Dale is very much a community person, attends Christ Church Tooradin (where the craft group meet to prepare their art and craft items for the Annual Bazaar on the first Saturday of each month at the Church Hall). Dale and her husband Graeme have been heavily involved in local matters, particularly the Tooradin Sports’ Club, which they were actively involved in supporting and growing. The strong commitment by Dale to ensure that the Bazaar and her family’s legacy continues combined with her strong organisational skills and her ability to bring people together is so very appreciated by all who know her and a significant reason why the Bazaar is sill running today. Dale Bell is an unsung hero and should be congratulated! After three premierships in four years, Berwick are enjoying their most successful era. 185297 Picture: ROB CAREW

Berwick’s belter Berwick's intensity from the opening bounce until the final siren simply can't be matched. Their premiership victory against Narre Warren on Saturday - giving the club back-toback flags for just the second time in club history - was intense, finals footy laced with the right amount of class. After a third premiership in four years, the word 'dynasty' is deservingly being bandied around, and for good reason.

The club has a stranglehold over the southeast region - they're relentless, driven by success and are always chasing their next challenge. It's the cornerstone of all successful sporting clubs. While the weather may have been arctic in their 51-point win over Narre Warren, the Wickers put in a magical performance befitting of a champion team in the midst of a golden era. From the superstar Travis Tuck, who came to the club with a high expectation that has

now culminated with a best on ground medal in a grand final, to their champion skipper Madi Andrews, dynamic forward Harry Money, gun midfielder Bryce Rutherford and reliable defenders Jo West and Michael Riseley, the Wickers possess remarkable star power. "We pride ourselves on our relentless approach," Berwick coach Stewart Kemperman said in the aftermath of another premiership win. And as for Kemperman, he couldn't have a dreamt of a start to his senior coaching career

The foundations are set, and as the club embarks on a new era in AFL Outer East, it seems the Wickers show no signs of slowing down. Now lighter on her feet After seeing a photo of herself taken by her daughter, Belinda Hartney, a Casey dance instructor, was shocked and made the courageous decision to change her lifestyle habits. The owner of Lind-Elle School of Dance in Narre Warren South had been yo-yo dieting for years until she noticed that her bad habits were creeping up on her. She has since embarked on a weight loss journey and turned her life around - losing a whopping 30 kilograms. "I was shocked to see how big I really looked," Belinda said. "I am a dance instructor and have always had a fairly fit and active lifestyle, so I could get away with comfort eating for many years. "Unfortunately, I developed some bad habits during this time and the weight crept on over the later years. Before I knew it, I was close to 100 kilos," she said. Belinda, who now weighs 68 kilos, decided to try the 1500 calorie meal plan through Lite n' Easy which provided the right amount of nutrition for her busy lifestyle. "I have gone from being a pre-diabetic to a picture of good health. My energy is restored and my knees no longer ache in dance class," she said. "The biggest lesson from this experience was re-training my brain in regards to the way junk food has short term results to make you feel good, but with major costs to general health and weight gain". A major contributor to Belinda's weight loss was her six-month commitment to 7-day meal plans.

Belinda before dieting. Her lifestyle habits included ridding her addiction to fats and sugars. During this period, Belinda lost 30 kilograms and has continued to use her eating plan five days a week, allowing her to both be social with family and friends, as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle. Belinda's advice to those seeking to lose weight is to be accountable, committed and drink lots of water.

Belinda Hartney is happy to have found happiness again after losing 30 kilos.

Day of punters and picnics By Brendan Rees Thousands of racegoers soaked up some glorious sunshine at Cranbourne racecourse on Melbourne Cup Day. Some 3,500 to 4,000 visitors flocked to the track on Tuesday 5 November for live racing action and entertainment. Racegoers embraced a country casual attire as they enjoyed backing a winning from bars and bookmakers on course. On the lawn, the champagne flowed as families rolled their picnic rugs and enjoyed all the action from the mounting yard to the winning post. All eyes turned to the big screen for the big race at Flemington Racescourse where Cranbourne's favourite son Craig Williams won his first ever Melbourne Cup on 'Vow and Declare.' For the second year in a row time this year, food vendors also vied for their share in cash and prizes for the best cooked barbecues in a Barbecue Turf Wars competition. Fun for the kids included carnival rides, jumping castle, pony rides and dodgem cars. Backing the Melbourne Cup winner was an elated Devon Langhans of Officer who took home $5,000. "I thought it was gone and it fought hard. It was unbelievable; really happy," he said, after placing a $500 bet for the win.

House of frights delights By Brendan Rees A Berwick home had hearts racing on Halloween which attracted close to 500 people in search of sweets and fun on Thursday 31 October. The team at O'Brien Real Estate in Berwick donated a supply of lollies for the spectacular Halloween display on Homestead Road. "We chose to get involved to give something back to our community of Berwick with an annual tradition which is rapidly growing every year within our neighbourhoods," sales associate of Berwick's O'Brien Real Estate Candice Hill said. "We jumped at the chance to help out and

be a part of a new and exciting event - which brings together families across Berwick!" The owners of the home, Lillian Weston and Alana Bell also ran a sausage sizzle with cold soft drinks and water also available for visitors. "In return we asked for a gold coin donation for the Second Chance Cat Rescue charity tin," Lillian said. They thanked the generous donations from local businesses including Brumby's Eden Rise, Coles Eden Rise, and Australia Butcher Store Berwick. "At the end of the day it's all about the kids and the enjoyment they get out of Halloween. For us it was also having a bit of fun, doing

Two treated after car fire By Brendan Rees Two people were assessed by paramedics after a car fire in Cranbourne North on Tuesday 5 November. Emergency services were called to the fire at the Bunnings Warehouse carpark on Thompsons Road about 2.20pm. A man and woman who tried to put the fire out were assessed by paramedics but neither were taken to hospital. Two fire appliances from Cranbourne fire brigade and a truck from Narre Warren fire brigade were on scene. The fire was brought under control in just less than 10 minutes. A CFA spokesman said it was not known how the fire started but it's believed three cars were involved. Timber pallets also caught fire, the spokesman said.

A Berwick house has been gutted after a fire, which began in the garage, spread to the house and caused a "significant" amount of damage. Nine CFA vehicles and about 30 firefighters from Berwick, Beaconsfield, Narre Warren and even Bayswater responded to the blaze on Cheviot Avenue on Monday 4 November, about 4.20pm. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but incident controller and Berwick CFA Lieutenant Craig Durdin said the event was being looked into by the CFA Fire Investigator, police detectives and the arson squad. "No one was home when the fire broke out but by the time we got there, the occupant of the home had just arrived," Lt Durdin said. "Obviously she was quite shaken." It's understood fire crews were on scene for three hours. Thankfully, there were no injuries but it's understood a neighbouring property also received "slight damage". "We probably just want to push the message that people should always have working smoke alarms installed in their houses," Lt Durdin said. "Smoke alarms do save lives." Victoria Police were contacted for comment to confirm whether the blaze was still being investigated. berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

Greensoul Organics’ motto is to always supply customers with the best premium quality organic vegetables and fruits available, at reasonable prices. Greensoul Organics sources only the freshest and highest quality seasonal Australian organic produce, all of which is 100 percent certified organic from local farms and the Melbourne Wholesale Market in Epping. Each year, ewg.org publishes a list of the ’Dirty Dozen’ and ’Clean 15’. The Dirty Dozen lists the top 12 fruits and vegetables that have the highest amounts of pesticides, synthetic fertilisers and GMO applied during conventional farming, and strawberries top the list for 2019 - but these nasties can be avoided when you buy at Greensoul. Currently in season at Greensoul are strawberries, mangoes, pineapples, papaya, celery and kale, with stone fruits coming into season soon. To make it easier for busy families, Greensoul now offers a delivery to your doorstep service. Customers can place an order by either calling the shop on 9796 1650 or by visiting their Facebook and Instagram pages, GSO Australia. Delivery cycles are on Tuesday and Friday and they can deliver to Pakenham, Beaconsfield, Officer, Berwick, Clyde and Cranbourne. The greatest gift in life is life itself. Our bodies are what we eat, and with more and more people becoming aware of the difference between conventional and organic/bio-dynamic farming, this knowledge is helping people

GROW BUSINESS … Casey Cardinia Region

A vision for 2020 Business consultant Ian Ash was helping public relations professional Ros Weadman understand and improve her businesses cash flow when they struck upon an idea. Their idea was a one day business summit aimed at new businesses and those enterprises whose growth had plateau, covering topics that all small business owners should know but often ignore. “Cash flow is something I had been avoiding for eight years,“ said Ros, laughing. “You know you should give it some attention but because these things are a bitter pill to swallow you keep ignoring it and you keep surviving on passion and talent alone. “But until Ian made it more palatable in a really practical way so could I absorb things like sales planning and cash flow analysis, all things I’d been avoiding. “ I said to him all business owners should know this stuff and it doesn’t have to be scary.“ The result of that light bulb moment was the upcoming Vision 2020 Business Summit. The one-day event on 22 November will provide a unique opportunity for SMEs to embrace forward-looking, practical perspectives on key elements of business strategy so they can compete more effectively in a highly competitive global marketplace. Ros, who heads Marcomms Australia, said the summit would offer unique content covering finance, sales, marketing, public relations, goal-setting and mindset. “The summit program is specially-designed for those who want to scale their business sustainably and need proven ways of making this happen”, she said. And the focus will be on practicality. “Our passion is to see local businesses succeed and thrive,“ said Ian, who runs OrgMent Business Solutions and is regular Grow columnist. “We want to give participants a day of variety and interesting talks and presentations that they can take away and practically apply to their business to get results.“ Ian said most business owners recognise that running a successful business takes more than just passion and talent. “The Vision 2020 Business Summit will open their eyes about what it takes to run a successful business. The content will equip them with knowledge and skills in key areas of business strategy so they can become more effective business owners”, he said.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS IAN ASH

Ian Ash and Ros Weadman will lead a one-day business summit at Bunjil Place on 22 November. “The vision for attendees is to give them the benefit of hindsight from three key presenters who are all highly experienced in their fields. That’s why we called it Vision 2020 - we are giving them that forward looking information that they need know,“ added Ros. The Vision 2020 Business Summit will take

place at Bunjil Place, Narre Warren, on Friday, 22 November 2019. It is fully catered event. Tickets are $397.00+GST until sold out. To book your place at the summit, visit www.trybooking.com/556894 or to find out more, call Ros Weadman on 0409 969 785 or Ian Ash on 0418 366 418.

A business stitching up a healthy result By Taylah Eastwell Combining her flair for self-crafted creations with a passion for brightening people’s darkest days has resulted in a rewarding business venture for Christeen Jacobs. After establishing a successful made-tomeasure bridal and evening wear business in Sydney, she has since opened a second business that is helping clients feels better, one wearable achievement at a time. And Christeen sees the improvements in her clients’ mental health through their work at Sew and Sew Sewing School as her biggest accomplishment. Over 15 years of teaching sewing in her Narre Warren North studio, Christeen noticed that many of the women who attended were suffering from depression and mental illnesses. It was this that led her to branch out into the online world, creating an online beginners sewing course so her clients could continue to reap the benefits of sewing without having to leave the house on days where their mental health was suffering. “When they would call, I would say jump on your sewing machine and they would call me at the end of the day to thank me, saying it’s

positively with conditions of chronic fatigue, depression and other long term mental health problems. The mental health benefits of Christeen’s online course speak for themselves, with many of her clients now running successful craft businesses of their own through her encouragement. “I’ve got women who have started cushion businesses, children’s wear and one who suffers terribly with mental health and now makes coats and vests out of old blankets,” she said. The online course is tailored for those wanting to learn to sew at home without any pressure, with clients having up to six months to complete it, and has a an online discussion group so participants can encourage each other and share photos of what they have made. “I’m so passionate about the mental health course, I feel like this is what I was put on this earth to do. I’ve seen the benefits. When they get involved with sewing, they clear their mind of all their worries and it gives their brain time to heal,” Christeen said. Anyone wanting to get in touch with Sew and Sew Sewing School can do so by contacting 0412 332 689.

In last month’s article I wrote about the role that passion plays in building businesses but cautioned that this alone is not sufficient to grow a thriving enterprise. There is no shortage of advice out there to tell aspiring entrepreneurs what they apparently must have in order to be successful, but what really matters and where do they go to find out how to access this information? It is a seemingly paradoxical fact that people don’t start businesses because they’re good at business, they start them because they’re passionate about a product or service and/ or have great skill or competency in the domain. Passion and competence are definitely prerequisites but not sufficient on their own to achieve a successful and sustainable business. Much in the same way that you can’t expect kids to learn new subjects properly unless they can read and write, so a business needs to have the fundamentals established so that it can grow sustainably. What I have learned over the years is that the starting point should be a documented business strategy that defines where the company is going and what few things need to be done outstandingly well in order for the business to achieve its defined goals, i.e. the “basics”. This is best created on a single page to enable focus, keep things simple and should consider what I refer to as the 'Six Foundations for Sustainable Business': People and culture Finance Leadership Customer Focus Systems and Processes Marketing Since we typically don’t have time to develop all of these to a great depth, what’s important here is that each one is considered with respect to where the business is going so that any required gaps can be identified. For example, the ‘Finance Foundation’ might answer questions like: “what sales revenue do I want to achieve this year?”, “how much profit do I need?”, “how should I define my company budget?” and “how will I monitor and report on financial performance?”. The ‘Marketing Foundation’ might address questions like: “how do I want to be perceived by prospective customers?”, “when should I have my web page available” and “to what extent should I make use of social media?”. Some of these may be tough to answer but at least surfacing these and thinking about what’s really important to the business will help prioritise your actions and enable you to develop a realistic and reasonable plan to achieve. I often feel that the “basics” are critically overlooked, so since Marketing and Communications Specialist Ros Weadman and I are passionate about seeing local businesses succeed, on Friday 22nd November we will be hosting a “Vision 2020 Business Summit” to share practical tools and techniques that provide “Business Strategies to Turn Passion into Profit” and give attendees an insight into what’s required for a successful business (please go to www. orgmentbusinesssolutions.com.au/events for more information). We would love to see you there. Ian Ash ACC, AInstIB Managing Director OrgMent Business Solutions - www.ombs.com.au

BROUGHT TO YOU BY CITY OF CASEY, CARDINIA SHIRE AND STAR NEWS GROUP berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

ENTERTAINMENT

Too slow, not too serious By Danielle Kutchel Picture this: The open road stretches before you, marred by river crossings, dirt roads, desert and unsettled conditions. It's a dream trip across Australia's top end. You're piled into a beaten-up old wagon, miles from family and civilisation. And you might not make it to the end of the track. That's the situation father and son duo Jase and Tyler Howell will find themselves in next May when they take part in the 2020 Autumn Shitbox Rally. The Shitbox Rally is a challenge more than a race. Teams must drive a car worth less than $1000 across some of the country's most formidable roads, raising funds for the Cancer Council. The 2020 Autumn challenge, held from 23 to 29 May, will see teams drive from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast via the Gulf of Carpentaria. Jase and Tyler's team is called Too Slow Too Serious. Their beast, a 1992 Ford EB Falcon wagon, is in need of a bit of work in the lead up to the event, but they're quietly confident that it'll be up to scratch. "We found the car on Gumtree, it was advertised in Warragul. We were looking for something a little bit different, a little bit left of field, and I suggested we go for a wagon. We did a deal and picked it up and there it is," Jase explains. His son Tyler, a Narre Warren resident, adds: "We don't really have to add a lot. We're going to add a roof rack so we can carry some stuff upstairs. We've just got to go over it and make sure it's mechanically sound because it's got to drive from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast so we don't want to be one of these groups that don't make it."

The 1992 Ford EB Falcon is the duo's 'sh*tbox' of choice for the rally. 200215 They're aiming to raise $10,000 for the Cancer Council, double the minimum required by the event. They're currently sitting at close to $5000 so Tyler believes they will get pretty close to their goal. Donors can also provide services instead of dollars: for example, sign writers can provide branded stickers to decorate the panels, or tradies could provide parts. Like most of us, the duo has been touched by cancer. Jase says one of his cousins was diagnosed with breast cancer a while ago but managed to come through: meanwhile, his uncle succumbed to the big C about ten years ago. "Hopefully that's as close as we get to it," he says practically. Anyone interested in donating to TooSlowTooSerious, or following their journey in the lead up to the Shitbox Rally, can visit the team's Facebook or Instagram pages by searching TooSlowTooSerious.

Students at Hampton Park Primary School celebrated their STEM program (science, technology, engineering, and maths) with an afternoon of challenges on Tuesday 29 October. Principal Liz Davy said the challenges were focused on the idea of 'trying to survive when lost in the wilderness.' "Students used their creative and critical thinking skills to build a boat to float, a kite to signal for help and a tower to check their location," she said. "Everyone was actively involved trying to survive and whilst everyone's designs may not have meet all standards, they had a great time and developed their skills."

Anne Atkin was initially gobsmacked when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 15 years ago at the age of 55 but was determined to fight the neurological disease. She started Painting with Parkinson's, an art therapy class for people living with the disease which runs classes every Wednesday at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick. "Art is beneficial for everyone. Parkinson's affects the brain and art and painting is good for the brain," Anne says. "After four sessions, people realise they are more relaxed and they can find their own level of creativity. "Part of my program involves activities for the brain, fitness and learning about colours," she says. Anne's group started in Cranbourne in 2006 "as a bit of an experiment," but through various grants "all of a sudden we were able to pay the rent for a room at the Old Cheese Factory." "This is a stunning place with beautiful buildings and gardens. "I now live in Warragul and my husband drives me to Berwick so I can continue the program. I never get bored and it has been part of my life for nearly 15 years- ever since I was diagnosed with Parkinson's," Anne says. On Saturday 23 November, her group will hold a fundraiser named 'Picnic in the Park' which will be held at the Old Shop at the Old Cheese Factory. The day will feature an exhibition of the group's paintings for sale, face painting, homemade cards, a sausage sizzle, and soft drink. "People can bring their own picnic baskets and we'll put out some tables and chairs," Anne says. All money raised will go towards Parkinson's Victoria and Painting with Parkinson's.

The Saints march forward By Nick Creely The Saints are marching into Southern. With a new identity, and off the back of unwavering momentum after finishing their time in the VAFA with a senior football premiership in Division 4, the Saints are only looking forward as they strive for a sustainable future and an influx of footballers and netballers streaming through the doors of Strathaird Reserve in 2020. The Narre South Saints - formally known as St Francis Xavier Old Collegians, and better known as 'The X-Men' - will join the Southern Football League’s Division 3 ranks next season after formally shifting to the league on 14 October, ending their association with the high school and its iconic name, in a move club president Wayne Delaland said makes perfect sense. For the Saints, it’s a chance to tap into the growing football and netball haven that is the south-east, and to attract local crowds and sponsors on board. “We’re very excited about the new changes, and the view is to have senior mens, reserves, a couple of under 19s if we can get there, as well as women’s football and netball too,” Delaland said. “The league change for us we kind of thought a couple of years ago was a bit of a pipe dream, we’ve felt that maybe the VAFA wasn’t the best fit due to us being in a strong Casey-Cardinia football corridor. “It’s not to say we didn’t enjoy our time at the ammos, but for us, we wanted to have local football, which means local crowds, and local

sponsors, and they probably couldn’t provide that - it’s (the VAFA) a large league encompassing a lot of municipalities.” Despite looking at numerous options for the club, Delaland said that Southern was the perfect fit, and with the strong relationship forged with the Narre South Lions Junior Football Club last year - one that sees them share facilities and provide a pathway for juniors through to senior football - sets up a strong foundation into the future. “The opportunity kind of started to come about at the start of this year, and we put some feelers out to see what the requirements were, and what leagues could offer us,” he said. “That wasn’t just Southern, we looked at Outer East as well, and we spoke to the VAFA outlining our concerns, and with their blessing, they allowed us to move on. “A lot of this came through with the relationship with the junior club, the Narre South Lions - we certainly haven’t merged or anything as of yet, but if that’s on the cards, it’s certainly something we’d have a look at. “It’s certainly been huge for both clubs, and certainly beneficial - we’re separate entities, but share the same facilities, so for juniors, they can look up to be senior players at the same venue their entire life, and likewise with St Francis, it’s well-published that we went through a player exodus in 2015, so we want to plan for long-term success.” After enjoying terrific success in the VAFA’s Division 4 in 2019 - culminating with a grand final win against Albert Park - Delaland said joining Division 3 of Southern in 2020 is about right.

“It’s well published that we had a lot of players from a Southern league background, so they had a better finger on the pulse than I did, but we had a look at some games and with the blessing of the committee and board, they decided we could join Division 3,” he said. “It’s a bit of a like-for-like considering we had a pretty strong year in the VAFA Division 4, so we felt that’s where we’d fit in - time will clearly tell, and we’re not getting too ahead of ourselves, but we feel like we’ll be more than competitive.” Delaland and his committee are busy preparing for the 2020 season after formally becoming the Narre South Saints Football Netball Club at the SGM on 24 October, and said that the club was still working through many things, such as the club colours and further expanding its relationship with the junior club. “The idea was to keep the Saints side of things - we were probably better known as the X-Men in the area, but with the Saints bit we managed to keep that, and we looked at keeping the song too,” he said. “We’re just working on what’s happening with the junior club, what’s happening with the colours, and hopefully, one day, merge or amalgamate with the juniors, so hopefully we can set up the foundation now for an easy transition that’d be better. “For us with St Francis, a lot of people would say, ‘well who are you, where are you based?’, and that’s people in the local area, so having the Narre South bit certainly gives us a home and an identity, so hopefully our brand will grow from there.” From an on-field perspective, the Saints

have re-signed its 2019 premiership coach, Scott Mackenzie, as the club looks to make a splash in the new league. Delaland said with the momentum built from last season, anything’s possible. “If we can ride some of that momentum, not just from 2019, but from 2018, we felt that we were building towards something strong and got the ultimate reward this year,” he said. “To have the same leader and leadership group at the top of the club, that just goes to leaps and bounds for us to come back into a successful operation. “They know how Scott works, they buy into his message, and hopefully we’ll get a few new players who want to be part of the journey too. “We’ve got a really good culture - we’ve come from a league where money isn’t everything, and I guess that’s applicable to playing groups, and if everyone can feel respected and included, I don’t think we’ll see too many players going out.” Delaland also added that the Saints are also trying to field an inaugural senior women’s side and netball in 2020. “We’re looking for women’s football and netball as well, so at a committee level we’ve got a few coordinators to help with that,” he said. “We want to drive those - we’re currently looking for inaugural coaches, and hope that they bring some good players. “Like anything it takes a lot of people to build these teams, and it’s no different to men’s teams as well - we’re in the process and find the right people.”

Demons get set for next season after a new talent influx By Romy Stephens The Casey Demons’ Victorian Netball League (VNL) side is preparing to go one step further next year, by adding some top-tier talent to its ranks. After losing this year’s VNL grand final to Geelong, the Demons have signed a handful of new players in a bid to increase their depth. Some notable additions include Victorian Fury goaler Sacha McDonald and Collingwood Magpies training partner Sharni Lambden. Both girls have ties to the club, with McDonald being the sister of Melbourne Football Club’s Tom and Oscar McDonald, and Lambden living locally in Cranbourne. Casey VNL head coach Robynn Pym said she can’t wait to see what the girls bring to the side. “We had a great year in Championship but also we had a lot of our Division 1 players fill the spaces in our Championship group,” she said. “We had a drive to fill those spots with Championship-level players and of course getting into a grand final helps you attract those players.” The Demons have also added Georgia Vines and tall defender Stephanie Boyce to their stocks. Vines previously played with Boroondara Express and is returning from a two-year break from netball. Meanwhile, the addition of Boyce into defence is set to take some pressure off the likes of Karli Foster and Demi Woodlock. The Demons have also retained most of last year’s starting seven, including Erin Bell, Emma Ryde, Kassidy Withers and Shannon Blackman. But the loss of Christie Hillberg will leave a gap in wing defence, likely to be filled by Lambden. Robyn said she felt as though the grand final loss came after players “were a bit cooked,” considering the team’s bench was filled with Division 1 players. She said the new players will hopefully allow the team to claim its maiden VNL grand final and also help develop talent that is knocking on the Championship team’s door. “This year, we’ve been very conscious that some of those kids are not quite up to that standard yet but they would give us a quarter,” she said. berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au

Casey's 2020 netball squad doing fitness testing at Casey Stadium. “They put their heart and soul into it, so we want to make sure that we can still develop those athletes.” The Demons are also working hard off the court as they look to strengthen ties with the local community heading into next year. The club recently donated $1000 to the

YMCA Open Doors Charity from the ticket sales of its three home games this year. YMCA Casey Cares director Tori Norris said the amount donated will assist five disadvantaged children by allowing them access to swimming lessons. “Water safety is an essential skill to have,

particularly heading into the warmer weather,” she said. “It warms our hearts to have the opportunity to give these children, who otherwise wouldn’t have the access, the ability to learn fundamental water-based skills that they can utilise for the rest of their lives.”

Doveton boxing is shining Doveton Boxing Club sensation Zealand Rakei continues to go from strength-to-strength. The teenage boxing star’s latest win - this time in a weight class above - is just another reminder of her unwavering talent. After Zealand won the Victorian 75-kilogram women’s title through a first round stoppage earlier in the month, the Doveton product was given the chance in late-October on the Gold Coast to represent her state contesting for an Australian title. Stepping up to a heavier class against bigger opponents with the 75-kilogram weight class withdrawn, Zealand was not fussed one bit and was eager to bring home the gold. Zealand drew the Queensland 80-kilogram champion straight into the final, and in the last fight of the evening, put on an absolute show.

Coming in as the underdog of the fight, Zealand jumped straight out of the corner on the bell to indicate to her eager opponent she was here not to just compete, but to more importantly, win. Landing plenty of power shots, one after the other, Zealand got on top, causing a standing eight-count on her opponent in the first round to take the points and win the round. With plenty of aggression from both boxers, and the skill heating up the bout, both girls were clearly hungry for the gold, but the Queenslander bounced back, snaring the second round points and setting up a grand finish. Both the Victorian and Queensland boxing teams were in full voice, standing on their feet chanting for their respective states in a tense final round, in an entertaining finish with a

gold medal on the line. Fighting her heart out for her club, her community, and her family after a recent family tragedy, Zealand snared the gold medal, in a tremendous achievement for the Doveton community. Stepping out of her weight class against a tough Queensland opponent, she stepped up exactly when she needed to. This terrific triumph was the first national title for the Doveton Boxing Club, and on return to the club, Zealand gave her medal to her coach and the club in a gesture that shows the quality of the rising athlete. The gold medal now hangs proudly in the foyer of the gym. Zealand Rakei (right) brought back an Australian title to the Doveton Boxing Club for the very first time. Picture: SUPPLIED

Cricket Victoria unveils new strategy for women’s cricket Cricket Victoria has unveiled a new strategy for Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket. The document outlines a broader integration of the competition across high performance, facilities management and pathways to grow a stronger Women’s Premier Cricket competition in the future. The strategy will now form a more holistic approach to elite women’s club cricket in Victoria to drive player and coach development, retention of volunteers and the growth of facilities. Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton said the new vision would also lead toward a single overall Premier Cricket strategy - encompassing both men and women - in the coming seasons. “Women’s Premier Cricket continues to be the bedrock for competitive cricket at club level and an important nurturing environment for future stars,” Ingleton said. “Women’s Premier Cricket has a rich recent history of producing some of our brightest talent - from Australian captain Meg Lanning at Box Hill through to Sophie Molineux at Dandenong. We’re committed to a strategy that will see us deliver enhanced facilities, administration, playing opportunities and renewed focus on attracting new players in the future.” Women’s Premier panel chair Penelope Cleghorn said the strategy set an important future direction for the competition.

Picture: COURTESY OF ARJ GIESE/CRICKET VICTORIA “It is an incredibly proud moment to have a Women’s Premier Cricket strategy developed, for the betterment of all women and girls playing cricket in Victoria,” she said. I’d like to thank the current members of the

Women’s Premier Panel and Cricket Victoria Director Claudia Fatone for their hard work which has culminated in today’s announcement. “The aim of this strategy is about consolida-

tion rather than expansion of the competition. Women’s cricket is undergoing lots of positive change, and it is important that we provide a framework that will assist all stakeholders achieve the common goal of providing the best environment for our cricketers to excel.” The new direction will see improved connections between clubs and schools, coaching and development and local councils. Such new strategies, such as “delivering an outstanding competition”, would see Cricket Victoria look to develop the best high performance system in the country, and feed directly into the Australian and Big Bash teams. In the document, Cricket Victoria also hopes that by 2022, 70 per cent of both Victorian WBBL lists will be from Victorian Premier Cricket, with Premier Cricket coaches integrated into high performance coaching and development. Other sections of the strategy cover Cricket Victoria’s desire to increase participation and support in Victorian clubs by providing a sustainable high performance competition, developing Women’s Premier Cricket through youth programs and link to community cricket clubs, investment in infrastructure to provide quality facilities and venues for training, as well as a wider connection with the community. Two out of three ain’t bad for the Narre Warren bowlers RSL (2) 14-65. The Division 6 (a side) group continued on its winning way with a win at Burden Park. Pauline Kempf, Pam Uren and Judy Naughton won well (22-11), while Rose Rasmussen, Helen McCarthy and Wilma Haringsma were close (22-25). Narre Warren (3) 12-44 defeated Burden Park (2) 2-36. The weather seemed the only winner for Saturday Pennant. Three of Narre Warren’s teams had their games abandoned due to rain. The only team to play was Division 5, under the roof at Dandenong Club. Unfortunately the result was disappointing. Darren Moore, Janice Moran, Peter Castricum and Glen Cadman was the only winning rink (23-20), while Toa Retzlaff, Paul McNamara, Peter Wilson and John Uren (13-26), Joe McGuire, Dermot McConville, Susan Ellery and Jos van Hout (13-23) and Arthur Fitt, Ernesto Vergara, Luca Klarica and John Zanon (10-34) all lost. Narre Warren (3) 2-59 lost to Dandenong Club (3) 16-103.

Geoff Miller was in fine form for Narre Warren in the Division 2 side.

NARRE WARREN BOWLS The current good form of Narre Warren’s midweek Pennant teams continued this week when two of the three teams won. The Division 2 outfit was at Fountain Gate, hosting Cardinia Waters (as the Saturday team did). Reg Johnstone, Gary Wilson, Wilma Stevenson and Geoff Miller scored well late in the game to win 27-16. Eric Sydenham, Geoff Ampt, Wally Finlayson and Jim Millar won the last two ends when level, to win 20-16, as did Alan Mark, Reg Young, Joe Selfridge and Colin Groom (19-16). Narre Warren (1) 16-66 defeated Cardinia Waters (1) 0-48. Division 4 visited Cranbourne RSL but suffered a loss. The highlight was a win by Arthur Fitt, Susan Ellery, Joe McGuire and Peter Groom (25-14); while Steve Hyam, Keith Mark, Paul McNamara and Jos van Hout just missed (15-17) while making a comeback. Stan Bulmer, Peter Wilson, Brian Nicholls and Glen Cadman had a bad day going down, 14-34. Narre warren (2) 2-54 lost to Cranbourne
