No show crowds By Jessica Anstice

The Berwick Show will go ahead without a crowd in February, meaning the popular sideshow alley will not be making an appearance. 204762 meet this week to decide on which of its usual features they will be able to run online or onsite. “Most of it is going to be visible online but there may be some things people can come in and have a look at, bearing in mind Covid-

safe plans,” Berwick Show Society committee member Tom Gibson said. “As hard as it is getting our minds around doing something different, under Paul’s leadership it is all coming together.” After jumping this hurdle, Mr Hamilton an-

ticipates the 2022 Berwick Show will be more vibrant that ever before. Berwick Show Society is seeking new contributors to help run the event. For more information, contact the show secretary on 0407 866 049.

The 172nd Berwick Show will go ahead, but no crowds will be allowed to attend the agricultural event in late February, according to the committee. Traditionally, the ever-popular show is held over the last weekend in February, but this year, it is set to span across about 14 days around the same time, predominantly online. While it’s a major historical change, Berwick Show Society president Paul Hamilton is harnessing the power of the virtual world to host an online agricultural show and believes there will be many positives to come from it. “There has only been one other time where the show did not go ahead and that was Ash Wednesday in 1883,” he said. “It was hard decision to make but we knew we had a responsibly to present a show under the hardest of circumstances. “Hopefully the concept of a virtual show will be evolved and developed into the future and then we can have both an online presence and a physical presence.” People from far and near will be able to tune into live-streamed videos on social media to watch exhibits and livestock competitions judged in real time from the comfort of their own homes. While the agenda hasn’t been confirmed yet, the show still plans on celebrating the best of rural Victoria with a touch of urban influence, and it will most definitely involve exhibitors, with agricultural content, cooking competitions and entertainment.
