Local residents have flocked to a Pakenham business to support the efforts of a young entrepreneur in the making. Eight-year-old Arib Mahmud decided to make the most of his summer holidays by setting up his very own lemonade bar, selling cups of freshly squeezed lemonade for $1 for adults and 50 cents for children. The Year 3 student of Pakenham Springs Primary School has fully embraced the phrase ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’. “I had the idea to run a lemonade stall from a book I was reading and then I thought I should do something similar,” Arib said. “It was very fun and my friends came and helped me run the stall. “I’m saving up for a present for my mums birthday.” Arib’s mum Azmery Arobi said she was touched when she heard Arib was working to save up for a her birthday present. “It was overwhelming when he said it was all for me, it’s really the best gift ever,“ she said. “I don’t know what he will buy buy it’s the thought that counts.“ She said Arib loved to meet his customers. “He wants to run the stall every day,” she said. “We didn’t think we would get such a big response we were really surprised and grateful to the Pakenham residents.“ The lemonade stall is located at 1 Kirka Court, Pakenham on specific days and will open again before school holidays comes to a close.

Pakenham pharmacists are currently experiencing a high demand for rapid antigen tests (RAT), with the busy Christmas and New Year period contributing to the lack of supply. Rapid antigen tests are a faster way to test

for Covid-19 than traditional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Although the rapid tests are now available to purchase at participating pharmacies, supermarkets, and other retail outlets, many locations are facing a supply shortage. Pakenham’s Good Neighbour Pharmacy

head pharmacist Matthew Gauke said the recent demand for rapid antigen tests has been “ridiculous”. “I’m getting a phone call every five minutes,” he said. “It really picked up a couple days before New Years Eve - it’s worse than toilet paper!”

The pharmacy has only been selling rapid tests for about three to four weeks and Mr Gauke said it was difficult to get his hands on the highly sought-after kits. STORY PAGE 3 ADVERTISEMENT
