Gathering in honour of Evie A fundraiser in Iona has raised over $20,000 for people living with an incurable neurological condition, inspired by a young local girl’s battle with the illness. Two and a half year old Evie Kitchin of Yannathan was born with Congenital Hydrocephalus, a condition in which an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) occurs within the brain. Her parents Jess and Travis hosted Fundraiser for Hydrocephalus at the Iona Cricket Club on Saturday 5 February, raising $22,267 for the Hydrocephalus Support Association. “The night was beyond anything we could have ever dreamed of,” Jess said. VCAT home ruling ‘unjust’ A plan to build a new home on the last block in a subdivision on Paternoster Road Cockatoo has been thwarted in an appeal to the state’s planning tribunal. Carmine Bucci appealed to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) in December to try overturn Cardinia Shire Council’s ruling that didn’t allow him to build a house on the bush block. In the ruling released on 1 February, VCAT member Joel Templar conceded the decision could be considered “unfair and unjust”. STORY PAGE 7

Commuter agony Major roads across Cardinia Shire are currently in a roadwork blitz, causing long delays to school traffic and work commuters.
Multiple Big Build projects in Pakenham and works to the Princes Freeway has left almost no easy way in and out of the area. McGregor Road and Racecourse Road will also be shut for a few days in February as level crossing removal works commence.
Locals have taken to Facebook to share their frustrations. “An hour and twenty to Dandenong from Pakenham yesterday. Absolute joke!“ Emily Studd said.
Molly Stafford had a similar daily commute nightmare. “I hated lockdowns but man I don’t miss it taking me 54 mins to get to Kensington for work,“ she said. STORIES PAGES 2-3
